Chapter 48
Zong Mo opened the chat box with Ruan Chi.
Now, their chat history was no longer just one-sidedly feeding him meals, but a whole row of expected arrival times sent by Ruan Chi, so he could prepare a hot meal in advance.
Zong Mo typed a line: [CEO Ruan, did you withdraw the trending topic?]
He was asking what he already knew. His CEO Ruan didn’t do losing business; he might not admit it.
Zong Mo deleted the line and typed again: [I’m not upset anymore.]
The trending topic has already been withdrawn. What’s there for him to be upset about? And would CEO Ruan care if he was upset or not?
Zong Mo deleted it again, hesitated for half a day, and typed: [Thank you.]
A light “thank you” was obviously not that valuable, but he had put in a lot of labor during this time, which should be enough to offset it.
Zong Mo stared at this “thank you,” feeling it was too distant, and deleted it again. He typed “CEO Ruan” in the input box again, but hadn’t thought of what to write next.
He realized he wasn’t very good at chatting through text.
Just then, the screen suddenly moved, and a message appeared out of thin air.
CEO Ruan: [What are you typing and deleting?]
Zong Mo’s hand trembled, and he accidentally pressed the send button, sending out the two words “CEO Ruan,” for which he hadn’t thought of the rest of the sentence.
Zong Mo: …
Ruan Chi had probably just been about to send him a message and had caught him in the act. He quickly sent another message to get to the point:
[Home in an hour.]
It just so happened to appear on the screen right after the [CEO Ruan,] that Zong Mo had sent with a trembling hand.
CEO Ruan: [Hmm?]
Zong Mo: …He couldn’t possibly say he was practicing his handwriting in the chat box, could he?
But he didn’t want to send any of the deleted messages. He simply asked another question, something he had planned to bring up later:
[Do you want to go to the premiere of Chasing the Light Boy together?]
Ruan Chi replied quickly: [Sure.]
It wasn’t until the day they were leaving for the movie that Ruan Chi found out Zong Mo had bought tickets for some obscure, out-of-the-way cinema.
Just past ten at night, Zong Mo urged him to leave.
“CEO Ruan, we can go now. I checked. It’s almost an hour’s drive…”
Ruan Chi: …
In the car, Zong Mo explained, “We’re both celebrities now. It’s better to go to a more remote cinema. It’s not easy to be recognized.”
The sponsor, who was also the part-time driver, didn’t really want to talk to him.
Zong Mo continued, “Actually, this cinema is not in the suburbs, it’s still in the city. It’s just that the villa is in such a good location, that’s why it’s far.”
After the flattery, Zong Mo glanced at the focused Ruan Chi and felt he wasn’t very angry.
Although Zong Mo had no confidence in his own acting, the thought of going to a movie premiere for the first time, and watching his own first starring movie, still filled him with a faint sense of anticipation. He wasn’t sleepy even though it was past his usual bedtime.
And, he wasn’t going alone.
Even in a remote cinema, after the massive promotion and hype, the premiere tickets had all been sold out. At the brightly lit entrance of the cinema, many viewers were checking their tickets and entering in succession. It didn’t feel like midnight at all.
To avoid being recognized by fans, the two of them waited in the car until five minutes after the movie started before going over, fumbling in the dark to find the double seat in the corner of the last row.
Because the filming process had been scattered, and the plot in the script was very brief, Zong Mo wasn’t sure what the final movie would look like.
Now, it seemed not bad.
In the movie, he was dressed shabbily, injured and bruised all day, but his looks were still on point. If not for the gloomy filter, it would have really looked like a campus idol film.
From the corner seat in the back row, he had a clear view of the heads of the audience in front. Zong Mo carefully observed and found that most of them were indeed heterosexual couples.
…He hoped they wouldn’t want to break up after watching the movie.
Zong Mo was inexplicably nervous. He unscrewed a bottle of mineral water and took a sip. When he put his hand down, it didn’t touch the soft seat.
Smooth, delicate, and slightly hard.
He looked down and found that he had accidentally placed his hand on the back of Ruan Chi’s hand.
Zong Mo was slightly stunned but didn’t come back to his senses for a long time.
Ruan Chi seemed to have just felt the touch of their two hands and turned his head to look over.
Zong Mo first noticed his lips, and only then did he meet his gloomy gaze.
Hmm?
The strange atmosphere was suddenly broken by this look. Zong Mo realized something and looked at the movie screen again.
The female lead, Yun Jie, had just shouted, “Stop it, I’ve already called the police!”
And then she had saved the male lead, who was on the verge of being gang-raped.
Zong Mo: …
Fuck, the male lead himself had forgotten about this.
Throughout the entire movie, Ruan Chi didn’t say a single word to him.
One should watch a movie seriously. Talking would also disturb others, but Zong Mo always felt restless.
Until the kiss scene on the bed.
Ruan Chi was the double for the female lead. His figure was too easy to give away, so this scene was cut into pieces. The moment it started to become a little inappropriate for children, the screen went black.
In the dimly lit and somewhat ambiguous cinema, the sound of kissing was particularly clear, echoing in everyone’s ears through the surround sound system.
…Even the male lead himself was blushing from hearing it.
Right, this campus movie with underage protagonists was actually rated nineteen and above.
To avoid the crowd leaving the theater, the two of them waited until the credits were over before preparing to leave.
There were still a few young viewers in the theater who were familiar with movie tropes, waiting for bloopers or a post-credits scene. There were also those who were crying their eyes out over the male lead’s death and needed a moment to recover, or were cursing the director for being inhuman.
This shabby little movie actually had a blooper reel.
It showed the part where Lu Bo saved the male lead who was on the verge of being gang-raped. The sad and oppressive atmosphere was instantly dispelled by screams of “Holy shit, Teacher Lu.”
Zong Mo: …
He followed Ruan Chi out of the theater. Ruan Chi was wearing a mask, covering most of his face, so it was hard to tell his expression, but it was clearly not good.
“I’m going to the restroom,” Ruan Chi said.
It’s good to wash his face and calm down.
Zong Mo obediently agreed and found a hidden corner outside the restroom to wait.
“Ah, look, isn’t that… Zong Mo?”
Although Zong Mo was wearing a mask and a baseball cap, his height and figure were eye-catching anywhere. He also had to wait for Ruan Chi and couldn’t run. Seeing two girls walking over quickly, he simply didn’t deny it, just raised his index finger to the outside of his mask and made a “shh” gesture.
The two girls were so excited they almost jumped up. They couldn’t stop smiling with excitement but forced themselves to lower their voices and said, “Ahhh, it’s really Mo Mo’s old…”
Zong Mo: ?
Unexpectedly seeing their idol in person, one of the girls almost let the word slip out of her mouth. She quickly changed the subject, “Mo Mo, I’m your old fan. I’ve liked you since DAVID!!”
Zong Mo: …
Unexpectedly seeing two “husband fans” in person, he didn’t know whether to be happy or not.
“Can you sign an autograph for us?” the other girl asked, handing over her movie ticket.
Zong Mo nodded and took it. “Okay, do you have a pen?”
In the information age, and when you’re out shopping and watching a movie, not working, few people carry a pen with them.
The two girls were troubled for a moment, then boldly suggested, “Then can we take a photo together?”
It was the first time he had met his fans offline. Zong Mo was inevitably moved by their pure affection and granted their every request, even adding a brilliant smile.
After taking the photo, the two little fans still didn’t want to leave. Seeing that he hadn’t left either, they asked, “Are you waiting for someone here? Did you come to the premiere with a co-star?”
The other one said, “Ah, could it be Teacher Lu?”
She almost screamed.
Zong Mo: …
Ruan Chi happened to walk over at that moment. It wasn’t the expected Lu Bo, but the two fans were still pleasantly surprised. “Holy shit, is that Ruan Chi?”
“Is Dyeing Vat real, Mo Mo?”
The other one quickly covered her mouth, “Holy shit, don’t ship CPs in front of the main person!”
The girl who was shipping the CP quickly changed her tune, “CEO Ruan, I’m also your fan! I’ve liked you for a long time!!”
Zong Mo: ? Didn’t she just say that to him?
“Hmm?” Ruan Chi frowned slightly and said suspiciously, “Have you followed me on Weibo?”
The girl nodded, “I have, I have.”
Ruan Chi: “Let me see?”
The girl: …
“I’ll follow you right now!!”
Ruan Chi: “Heh.”
Zong Mo: ?
In the end, Ruan Chi didn’t sign an autograph or take a photo. He gained two new fans on the spot, then coolly grabbed Zong Mo and strode away.
Zong Mo obediently got into the car, not daring to speak. But he saw that Ruan Chi didn’t start the car immediately. Instead, he made a call and put it on speakerphone.
“Why are you calling me? Did you watch the premiere?”
It was Director Yang’s voice. Zong Mo immediately pricked up his ears.
Ruan Chi: “What do you think?”
Director Yang: “Zong Mo’s performance in a few scenes was really good.”
“Heh.”
“It was quite exciting, wasn’t it?”
“Exciting?”
“You should try it too when you have time,” Director Yang said. “Filming is just acting, after all. It’s not really that exciting.”
Director Yang was indeed a man of temperament.
But Zong Mo typed out a question mark.
The patricide scene was out. The other exciting scenes, besides the alley group fight, were the kiss scenes. They had already performed the kiss scenes live and even had a filming accident.
Then wasn’t the only thing left the alley scene where he was pinned down?
Director Yang’s meaning… was it what he thought it was?
What if CEO Ruan really wanted to top him? Run or not run??
The car doors were already locked. He couldn’t run even if he wanted to.
And it was in a car. This was indeed a bit exciting. He had never tried it before and was somewhat interested.
?
Wait, what was he thinking? He should think of a way to run quickly.
Ruan Chi just happened to hang up the phone.
Zong Mo was immediately on full alert, his hand tightly gripping the door handle.
Ruan Chi said nonchalantly, “I don’t really want to try.”
Zong Mo had just breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Ruan Chi say, “I think it’s very satisfying now.”
Zong Mo: ? What?
Could it be that his CEO Ruan wasn’t self-righteously 1, and was willing to be on the bottom just because it was satisfying…?
Zong Mo was stunned for half a day and didn’t reply. Ruan Chi looked over, his expression as calm as usual, as if he wasn’t the one who had just said such explicit words.
Zong Mo really wanted to ask, but he didn’t dare, for fear that Ruan Chi would suggest he experience it for himself.
Ruan Chi didn’t say any more and turned to say, “Let’s go back.”
Zong Mo: …Why didn’t he say more?
How satisfying was it?
Fuck, now he’s also very curious!
Author’s Note:
It’s impossible to counter-attack, because it’s really satisfying (?
