Chapter 28 Part 1
At two o’clock the next afternoon, the second episode of the second season of Wonderful Adventure officially began.
Before the live broadcast started, a clip recorded yesterday was played.
In front of a retro-style luxury villa, the show’s team had placed six leather suitcases on the neatly trimmed lawn.
Each suitcase contained a different set of clothes and an instruction card.
The guests appeared. Shen Wu was the first to go and check. Looking at the instruction cards, he introduced them one by one, “There are a total of six roles: private detective, news reporter, musician, bank scion, family doctor, and overseas student.”
And the style of the six sets of clothes had a somewhat nostalgic, retro feel. Chinese long gowns or modified Western suits, a fusion of Chinese and Western styles, a blend of traditional elegance and conservatism with an open and inclusive spirit.
“It’s a Republican-era role-play,” Lin Yanran came over, her interest piqued. “But why are they all men’s clothes? Do I have to wear men’s clothes too?”
Fang Ci’s voice came from off-screen, with special effect subtitles, “Each role has a matching female version of the outfit. You can choose freely.”
To accommodate the only female guest, the show’s team had spent double the effort and funds on the costumes.
Shen Wu guessed, “These identities should be more than just professions, right? Just like last time… we were not only former students of the abandoned school, but also… ahem, had a romantic relationship.”
Lin Yanran nodded, “Each identity might also have a different function.”
Liang Shu: “Private detective and news reporter seem to be more useful identities.”
The show’s team’s voice came again, “Now, please choose your identities in the order of escape from the last episode. The order is as follows: Lin Yanran, Liang Shu, Shen Wu, Meng Huaizhi. Since Xia Fanxing and Nan Dengwei were eliminated early, the last are Nan Dengwei and Xia Fanxing.”
Xia Fanxing’s face was crestfallen. “Ah, I’m last…”
Lin Yanran smiled, “Didn’t you go to high school abroad? This overseas student role is definitely for you. Maybe the overseas student needs to speak English.”
Seeing Xia Fanxing’s misfortune, his fans were the ones who laughed the hardest.
[LMAO, Xingxing’s OS: Can’t English at all.]
[Hahahaha, I didn’t expect you to be this kind of Sister Yanran.]
Xia Fanxing: “Sister Yanran, I went to high school in Korea.”
“That’s still an overseas student,” Lin Yanran smiled kindly. She then stopped in front of a suitcase and said to the show’s team, “I want to choose the news reporter.”
The last time they had successfully escaped from the abandoned school, Shen Wu and Meng Huaizhi had been the main contributors, but they had given way to Lin Yanran and Liang Shu, and had ended up in third and fourth place.
Liang Shu thought for a moment and first asked the two of them, “What do you want to choose?”
Shen Wu had a plan. He was not interested in the roles of news reporter and private detective, which at first glance seemed to be the most righteous and most likely to become the target of everyone. Instead, he had his eyes on the outstanding bank scion.
The others were all working class. The young master was clearly the main character.
He didn’t say it directly, lest Liang Shu beat him to it, and only said, “Anyway, I don’t want to be the private detective.”
Meng Huaizhi: “I’m fine with anything.”
“Mm, then I’ll take the private detective,” Liang Shu said.
Only then did Shen Wu say, “I want to be the bank scion.”
Then, he started to choose for Meng Huaizhi, “Teacher Meng, do you want to be the musician? It’s like playing yourself.”
Meng Huaizhi had no objection, “Okay.”
Nan Dengwei chose the family doctor, and the role of the overseas student, as everyone expected, fell to Xia Fanxing.
It was more or less a case of everyone getting what they wanted.
The guests went to change their clothes. The screen went black, and the live broadcast was about to begin.
The audience discussed among themselves while waiting.
[By the way, this role-play shouldn’t be just about changing clothes, right? They also have to do their styling. It takes too long, so the show’s team is playing a recording first, and then the live broadcast.]
[Ahhhhhh, I’m so excited!!]
[Looking forward to the world-class musician Meng Huaizhi!!!]
After a short black screen, the screen flickered, and a line of solemn words appeared on a black background: The Miu Miu Group’s Inheritance Saga.
[Goddamn Miu Miu Group, are you trying to kill me with laughter?]
[Hhh, can’t be serious for two seconds.]
The bullet screen was full of ridicule. Suddenly, the black curtain was pulled back, revealing a somewhat faded, retro movie-like picture.
The hall was decorated magnificently, with warm yellow lights, gorgeous curtains, and mahogany furniture that had a simple and heavy feel. The furniture was substantial but not oppressive, mainly thanks to the colorful stained glass windows on the wall.
Neither Western nor Chinese, a typical early 20th-century Western-style house, time seemed to have frozen here.
Switching to a close-up, the audience immediately fell silent.
The person at the head of the long table put down the newspaper he was holding up, revealing his extremely cold and handsome face.
His short hair was slicked back to the side, revealing a smooth forehead and exquisite features.
A pair of gold-rimmed glasses rested on his high-bridged nose, with a glittering gold chain hanging from one side.
The bullet screen, which had been silent for a few seconds, instantly exploded.
[Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh]
[Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap, the refined scoundrel Teacher Meng, I’m so here for it!!]
[This look is so amazing, ahhh, please weld it to your face, okay!!?]
After a moment of excitement.
[Wait a minute, did Huai-ge not rest well? You can still see his dark circles even with makeup on.]
[A refined scoundrel is of course refined during the day and a scoundrel at night. How can he sleep? (doge)]
[Hahaha, the guests should have all stayed in the same hotel last night. What did they do at night?]
Meng Huaizhi, who was the focus of tens of millions of people, any insignificant abnormality on him would receive extraordinary attention.
At this moment, Meng Huaizhi, who was playing the musician, raised his hand, gently pushed his glasses, and began to lead into the plot.
“Let me introduce myself first. I’m Meng Huaizhi, and also…” His self-address had not changed, but his tone was a bit more leisurely than usual, the end of his words dragging on carelessly, “…your eldest brother, the eldest son of the entrepreneur, Mr. Lu.”
The camera moved slightly further away, including Liang Shu, who was sitting on his side, in the frame. The professional actor smoothly picked up the scene, his brow tightly furrowed, “So, you’re the one who called me here?”
But the show’s team was so stingy that they only gave a close-up of the two of them, as if they knew the audience was dying to see the other’s styling.
Meng Huaizhi couldn’t help but suspect that Fang Ci had anticipated that he would choose the musician and had therefore assigned the task of introducing the plot to the musician, with the idea of taking full advantage of him now that he had finally gotten him on the show.
He calmly accepted Liang Shu’s questioning and said nonchalantly, “I only found out that I was Mr. Lu’s son a few days before you.”
He paused and then said, “Mr. Lu was a suspicious man all his life. Even on his deathbed, he was alone. To prevent the wealth he had accumulated all his life from being scattered in troubled times, he found us, hoping that we could preserve it.”
The camera flashed and switched to Xia Fanxing. He had his arms crossed, and the indignation of a young man was written all over his face. “What kind of father does that? I don’t have this dad.”
“Whether you acknowledge it or not, there’s a paternity test result to prove it,” Meng Huaizhi said faintly.
As his voice fell, the picture suddenly pulled back, showing the entire long table and the six people sitting around it.
“He was a cold-blooded bastard who didn’t recognize his own family all his life. In his old age, he suddenly had a change of heart?” Lin Yanran, a stark contrast to her sweet image in private, had bright red lips and sneered contemptuously, “How ridiculous.”
Many viewers had not yet had a clear look at the other guests’ outfits. The panoramic view flashed by and was completely submerged in a sea of bullet comments.
[Ahhhhhh, who else is screaming if not me!!!]
[So handsome, so handsome, so handsome.]
[Am I the only one who thinks it’s hot?]
[You’re not alone. Thanks for asking, I’m already licking.]
[I’m directly high! Hubby~ prprprpr]
[Which stylist did the leather straps? Come out, you’re done for if you don’t continue to do this next time!]
The bank scion’s costume in the suitcase was originally a white shirt with a dark gray suit vest and matching trousers.
And Meng Huaizhi’s musician costume was a white shirt with a light gray Western-style tailcoat.
The styling of these two roles was slightly similar.
But the bank scion’s vest was not custom-made. The one-size-fits-all version did not fit Shen Wu well, and the stylist felt that it didn’t match him at all, so they made a temporary change.
They removed the suit vest and replaced it with retro-style coffee-colored leather suspenders.
The two leather straps wrapped around his shoulders, front and back, and circled his waist twice at the narrowest point, cinching in his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
The previous actors had created an excellent atmosphere, and Shen Wu naturally picked up the scene.
“I didn’t need this inheritance in the first place,” his resentment was even greater than Xia Fanxing’s. His naturally passionate peach blossom eyes had no smile, and his brow was clouded. “If it weren’t for this old man, my dad wouldn’t have disowned me.”
Nan Dengwei, dressed as a doctor, seemed to know a lot about the secrets of Shen Wu’s family and mercilessly exposed his shortcomings in front of everyone, “You’re not Mr. Shen’s biological son in the first place. Your name is not right, and your words are not smooth. A lie will be exposed one day.”
[Hahaha, Nan Dengwei’s words are so informative. Shen-ba: Why is my head so green?]
[Shen-ba, how could you be so cruel as to disown our Wuwu?]
[Even if you were cuckolded, would you just give up such a handsome son?]
[Thank you, dad. Give me the son you don’t want. I don’t mind, hhh.]
In the Shen family, in Shen Wu’s eyes, Shen Tianheng was like an enemy, but in the eyes of others, their relationship was not like that at all.
Shen Tianheng clearly cared about this youngest son very much. Everyone could see it and knew that he always said the opposite of what he meant.
At this moment, at the Shen Corporation headquarters, Shen Tianheng’s phone fell to the ground with a clatter, scaring the employee who had come to deliver materials. “Chairman Shen… are you alright?”
Shen Tianheng picked up the phone before the diligent employee could, locked the screen, and said in a deep voice, “It’s nothing, I just bumped it.”
The young employee: “…” Your expression says otherwise.
Back to the live broadcast room.
After the six guests had said the lines given by the script, Lin Yanran sensed something wrong in Nan Dengwei’s words and asked, “Did you know him before?”
Nan Dengwei did not hide it and said frankly, “I used to be the Shen family’s family doctor, but that was a long time ago.”
Hearing this, Shen Wu naturally thought of the last episode where they were lovers and asked, “Does anyone else know each other?”
