Chapter 19: Another Escape Attempt
Although the temperature at night was pleasant, it couldn’t withstand any agitation.
Chu Yi felt a thin layer of sweat break out. He raised a hand to pinch Sheng Qianheng’s wrist and, putting on a whiny voice, cried, “A-Heng, don’t bully me anymore…”
Sheng Qianheng raised a hand to turn Chu Yi’s face, kissing his lips forcefully while his other hand slipped under the hem of his clothes.
Chu Yi was already rendered powerless by the fragrance filling his nose. Seeing that Sheng Qianheng seemed to have lost his reason, he could only raise his hands to beat against his shoulder.
Sensing Chu Yi’s resistance, Sheng Qianheng slowly stopped. He rubbed Chu Yi’s moist, flushed red lips with the pad of his thumb, panting, “A-Yi, I can’t hold it in anymore…”
Chu Yi looked helplessly at Sheng Qianheng. He could feel the scorching heat pressing against his back. The breath between them was tinged with the smell of alcohol from Sheng Qianheng’s lips. Was he drunk again?
In his panic, he could only try to distract Sheng Qianheng.
(…)
(…) …
Sheng Qianheng’s fingers moved.
Slender, long, and agile, they made Chu Yi want to gag several times…
Chu Yi felt the other hand holding him gradually lose its strength. Only then did he release Sheng Qianheng’s hand, tentatively sitting up and slowly looking at Sheng Qianheng behind him.
“A-Heng, what’s wrong with you?”
Sheng Qianheng raised a hand to cover his eyes, trying to calm his desire. “Did I wake you?”
Taking advantage of the dim light of the night, Chu Yi silently rolled his eyes. Then he straightened his clothes, patted Sheng Qianheng’s shoulder, and replied, “I thought you wouldn’t be coming so late, so I went to bed early.”
“Did I scare you? My mood might be bad these few days…” Sheng Qianheng sat up, his eyes still faintly red. He said apologetically, “I didn’t mean to just now.”
He shook his head. He understood. Every man has a few days a month when his mood is bad. Understandable.
It was just that he had been harassed by that Jiang Xinrui today and then startled by Sheng Qianheng’s sudden “enthusiasm.” His heart really couldn’t take it!
He shifted back a little and asked, “Do you need… relief?”
Sheng Qianheng let out a heavy breath. His Kunze was right there, but he seemed to have frightened him. He slowly changed the subject. “At the banquet today, that envoy wanted me to accept the woman he presented. Were you angry?”
Chu Yi admitted that he was angry for a moment, but it was more out of indignation at Sheng Qianheng’s earlier promise that he would be the only one in the palace.
“Of course I was. But I’m even angrier that Your Majesty didn’t inform me that my identity would be revealed to everyone!”
Sheng Qianheng slowly took Chu Yi’s hand. “It was my oversight. I didn’t consider your feelings. I apologize to you.”
Chu Yi was stunned for a moment. A person like Sheng Qianheng was actually apologizing to him?
According to the original book, Sheng Qianheng had killed his father and brothers and slaughtered people indiscriminately. He never cared about the world’s opinion. Anyone who didn’t go along with his wishes was executed.
But Chu Yi felt that the Sheng Qianheng before him doted on him in every way, and even apologized to him.
Seeing that Chu Yi didn’t respond, Sheng Qianheng raised his arms, wrapped them around Chu Yi’s waist, and gently lifted him onto his lap. He gently raised his hand and kissed his chin. “What are you thinking about?”
Sheng Qianheng’s low, hoarse voice by his ear seemed to have a magical quality, making Chu Yi intoxicated.
He was completely unaware that the way Sheng Qianheng was pinching his hand had already changed its nature…
He replied, “I’m thinking that you would actually apologize to me.”
Sheng Qianheng buried his face in Chu Yi’s chest, the hand pinching Chu Yi’s fingertips guiding him. “You are my wife. What’s wrong with bowing my head to my wife?”
Hearing Sheng Qianheng’s increasingly heavy breathing, Chu Yi’s heart unconsciously started to race. It was only when he felt the curve swell in his palm that he realized something was wrong.
He tried to pull his hand back but couldn’t overcome Sheng Qianheng’s strength. “Don’t…”
Sheng Qianheng looked up into Chu Yi’s eyes, which were actually filled with tears. He said in a low, wronged voice, “Brother, take pity on me~”
Chu Yi felt as if everything around him had become illusory. The chirping of the cicadas and the sound of the wind outside seemed to gradually fade away. His heart pounded like a drum, almost bursting from his chest, making his ears buzz.
He stared at Sheng Qianheng’s pitiful little expression and couldn’t help but reach out with his free hand to wipe away his tears, saying softly, “I don’t want to do it…”
Seeing that Chu Yi had softened, Sheng Qianheng pressed his advantage. “We won’t do it. Just help me, brother.”
Chu Yi didn’t know if he was possessed or bewitched by Sheng Qianheng’s good looks, but he actually nodded in agreement.
His fingertips unconsciously brushed against the skin beneath the silky nightclothes, and it felt like touching a burning charcoal. He trembled slightly and tried to pull his hand back.
Sheng Qianheng closed his eyes, his thick eyelashes casting a faint shadow below. The sound of his Adam’s apple bobbing was exceptionally clear in the pin-drop quiet of the bedchamber.
Chu Yi only felt an abnormal heat in his palm.
Beneath his palm, he could feel the clamor of rushing blood.
His fingertips tightened, his grip gradually deepening. Chu Yi felt as if he had caught a slippery koi fish.
Sheng Qianheng rested his chin on Chu Yi’s shoulder, listening to his sometimes shallow, sometimes heavy breathing.
Fine beads of sweat broke out on both their foreheads. The scents of Zhuǎnrìlián and Danshen xìnxiāng mingled in the room, merging into a faint herbal fragrance that was refreshing to the lungs and aroused desire…
Chu Yi had long since lost his senses (…).
He just felt that something was wrong.
His hand unconsciously clenched, causing Sheng Qianheng to suck in a sharp breath. He bit Chu Yi’s cheek and said, “A-Yi…”
Chu Yi pressed his lips together and stared at the shameless villain before him. Sheng Qianheng felt guilty under his gaze and could only coax, “A-Yi, don’t look at me like that…”
Chu Yi really wanted to open his mouth and curse, but the person before him was the emperor, a tyrant!
“Sheng Qianheng, I only agreed to help you. I still haven’t settled the score with you for today’s matter!”
(…) …
Not wanting to see Sheng Qianheng’s smug look after bullying him, Chu Yi deliberately blocked the opening with his thumb.
“A-Heng, don’t be too fast…”
…………
A bone-deep wave crashed against the shores of reason under their palms. After hundreds of cycles, the wave finally reached the mouth of the embankment, threatening to erupt.
Sheng Qianheng tried several times to lean in and kiss Chu Yi’s lips, but he dodged each time. He said tremblingly, “A-Yi, brother, can you let go?”
Although Chu Yi was also about to lose his reason, he could still use it to bargain with Sheng Qianheng. “Will you still bully me?”
Sheng Qianheng quickly shook his head.
Chu Yi took the opportunity to move his thumb away. Sheng Qianheng raised his arms, wrapped them around Chu Yi’s waist, and held him tightly.
Both their bodies suddenly tensed. The moment of release, Chu Yi felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body, and he could only lie limply in Sheng Qianheng’s embrace.
His inner robe was already soiled, sticking uncomfortably to his skin. Chu Yi complained, “It’s all your fault. It’s dirty and uncomfortable.”
Sheng Qianheng cupped Chu Yi’s face and licked away the stains on his cheek one by one. “I’ll have someone prepare water. If you’re sleepy, you can rest against me. I’ll carry you to the bath in a while.”
Chu Yi’s breathing had not yet steadied. He bit down on Sheng Qianheng’s shoulder. “Are you planning to have someone else wash me? You rogue! It’s all your fault!”
Their rapid breathing was exceptionally clear in the quiet room. Amidst the violent rise and fall of their chests, they could also hear each other’s heartbeats.
It wasn’t until Sheng Qianheng carried him to the side of the bathing pool that Chu Yi realized those few tears must have been a trick to deceive him.
As expected, a man three parts drunk will lie until your heart breaks!
But for now, Sheng Qianheng was properly cleaning him. Sleepiness gradually crept in, and he fell asleep in Sheng Qianheng’s arms without realizing it.
The next day, when Chu Yi woke up, Sheng Qianheng was no longer on the bed.
He sat up and tried to support himself with his hand, but a stinging pain shot through his palm. Chu Yi raised his hand to look. Almost his entire palm was flushed red, and the skin seemed to be slightly broken. He couldn’t help but curse Sheng Qianheng, that fatuous ruler, in his heart!
Seeing this, Lianfang quickly brought the prepared ointment and walked up to Chu Yi. “Your Ladyship, shall this servant apply some medicine for you?”
Chu Yi got off the bed and sat before the dressing mirror. Lianfang carefully applied the ointment for him.
From the information Moshu had gathered, Chu Yi had a general understanding of Jiang Xinrui—a bookworm with courage but no strategy.
Chu Yi unconsciously asked about Sheng Qianheng, “Why was His Majesty drunk yesterday?”
Moshu: “His Majesty rejected many of the beauties presented by the envoys yesterday. The envoys, seeing that His Majesty was still young, used his age as a reason to ply him with a lot of wine. But His Majesty specifically bathed to get rid of the smell of alcohol before coming to see Your Ladyship.”
Chu Yi sighed. Sheng Qianheng was young and vigorous. His good treatment of him for now was just a matter of novelty. But how long could the novelty of a person last?
Since ancient times, emperors were fickle. Which ancient man didn’t have three wives and four concubines?
But he was different. He wanted one person for a lifetime.
Now that he had come to this world of the book, he had to survive no matter what. If conditions allowed, he wanted to find a place to live in this chaotic world of the book and find a lover. That would be enough.
The broken skin on his palm healed in a few days, but Sheng Qianheng did not appear before Chu Yi for several days in a row.
When he had nothing to do, Chu Yi remembered the secret passage in Yanxi Palace. This time, he did the opposite and entered Yanxi Palace openly.
He only brought Lianfang and Moshu into the main hall of Yanxi Palace. The three of them worked together to push away the bed. Chu Yi immediately took a candlestick and crawled into the passage.
The passage was not particularly high, and the light was dim. Chu Yi had to bend over slightly. After walking for about a few li, he saw a faint light.
He had originally thought it might be a secret passage leading outside the palace. When he cautiously peeked his head out of the passage exit, he found it was a secret room.
He gestured behind his back for Lianfang and Moshu to stand by.
Chu Yi slowly emerged and scanned the secret room. There was only one window that allowed light to pass through.
Perhaps because he was used to the faint floral scent on Sheng Qianheng, Chu Yi felt that the room was filled with that smell.
He was walking to the center of the room to see if there were any other exits when he looked down and noticed a shadow on the floor.
Someone was standing behind him!
Before Chu Yi could turn around, the person wrapped their arms around his waist. His clothes were violently torn, and in a moment, only a few scraps were left hanging on his shoulders…

-
Danshen: Also known as red sage, a perennial plant in the mint family. This is likely Chu Yi’s xìnxiāng scent.

A man three parts drunk, will lie until your heart breaks: This is a modern Chinese saying, implying that men often use being slightly drunk as an excuse to lie or make false promises, especially in romantic situations.
