Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Cub Comes from Planet Meow 44

Chapter 44: Meow

Time rewinds to when Jiang Suifeng was leaving.

Neatly dressed, Jiang Suifeng bent down so Jing Mimi could give him a few kisses on the cheek.

“Goodbye, Big Papa. Come back early.”

Just like snuggling with the kitten Mimi before going to work.

Originally, Jing Mimi should have walked Big Papa to the door and watched him leave, but the Cat God’s voice suddenly ringing in his head changed his direction, and he went to the cat room to listen to the mission attentively.

“Mimi, there’s a new mission. I originally wanted you to rest for two days, but this mission is relatively simple, and there will be a good opportunity to complete it soon, so I’m telling you now.”

“This time it’s the wish of several kittens.”

“The wish is: invite Zhu Shan to have a meal at home.”

“Zhu Shan is the name of the uncle living opposite your house.”

Jing Mimi remembered that uncle and had a good impression of him.

Once, the kitten Mimi sneaked into the corridor while his papas opened the door to get takeout. His papas didn’t notice him and closed the door.

He wandered around outside freshly for a while, finally realized something, started meowing anxiously, and scratched at the door with his paws.

His papas might have been busy with something and didn’t hear him to open the door immediately. Instead, the neighbor opposite heard the noise and opened his door.

The uncle was very gentle. He came to him, bent down, and stroked his head gently with his rough big palm. There was a band-aid on his palm, which scraped the kitten’s ears back.

The uncle said something to him at that time, but back then he couldn’t understand human language and didn’t remember. However, because of his past experiences, he had a natural sensitivity to human emotions. He could feel the kindness emanating from the uncle, without any falseness.

The uncle smoothed his fur gently, but he was still a bit nervous, meowing, pressing against the door of his home, tucking his little tail.

Seeing this, the uncle stood up, pressed the doorbell quickly, turned around with lightning speed, and went back to his own home opposite.

Not long after, the sound of his papas’ approaching footsteps rang out. The door opened, and the kitten pounced in with a “meow,” tucking his tail, never daring to sneak out again.

He knew it was the uncle who helped him.

Besides this, he had other interactions with the uncle, but not face-to-face direct contact like this anymore.

It was during the New Year. His papas went back to their respective homes, leaving the kitten Mimi alone here. Listening to the crackling fireworks sounding from somewhere outside, he felt bored and lonely, patting his little tail on the floor.

Occasionally, his papas would “talk” to him through the surveillance camera in the living room. Every time he heard his papas’ voices, he would respond with excited meows.

Perhaps the meowing reached outside the door and was heard by the uncle passing by. The uncle tried knocking lightly on the door.

The knocking was very light, but the kitten’s ears were sensitive and caught it.

Already bored alone at home, the kitten Mimi immediately went to the door, meowing and scratching the door with his little paws to respond to the person outside.

He didn’t know who was outside, naively hoping it was his papas coming back.

But it wasn’t Papa; it was the uncle opposite.

The uncle talked to him for a long time. He couldn’t understand human language, but he didn’t leave. He was a clingy pet cat bred in a cattery and liked listening to human voices.

One person and one cat kept each other company separated by a door.

He didn’t know that day was New Year’s Eve, and the next day was the Spring Festival.

On the day of family reunion, two lonely souls listening to the lively fireworks together felt less lonely.

Not long after the New Year, Little Papa came back. With Papa’s company, the kitten Mimi didn’t hear the uncle’s voice outside the door anymore. He wondered if the uncle also had someone to accompany him.

This was a little secret between him and the uncle, known only to the two of them.

Yesterday in the ascending elevator, Jing Mimi originally wanted to greet the uncle, but the uncle didn’t know the little human Mimi and didn’t give him any look, so he had to give up.

Unexpectedly, the uncle knocked on their door proactively today!

He wanted to invite the uncle to be a guest at home and eat together!

Jing Zhi roughly guessed that the former kitten Mimi had some contact with this neighbor opposite, but there was no time for him to question the little cub in his arms carefully right now.

He could only ask the person outside the door skeptically: “Who is it? What’s the matter?”

In the surveillance video, the man’s gaze lowered.

“I… live opposite. I have something to show you.”

The man was about forty years old, his voice mellow and steady, not sharp.

Jing Zhi put the little cub in his arms on the floor behind him, signaled him to stand still obediently, and opened the door a crack.

The man didn’t look as strangely distorted as in the surveillance footage. His face was quite ordinary, somewhat average, but vaguely carried the dust of weathering storms.

Seeing Jing Zhi open the door, he handed over a stack of papers.

Jing Zhi held the door handle with one hand and took them vigilantly with the other, finding these papers similar to the one Jiang Suifeng picked up at the door this morning, all written with red characters, handwriting distorted.

[Meddlesome thing]

[If you’re so capable, go die for them]

[Still pretending to be a saint with a criminal record]

[…]

Very eerie.

This reminded Jing Zhi of the rumors he heard about this man before—he had been to prison, but the reason was unknown.

The man continued: “I don’t know who put them at my door. This morning I saw one appeared at your door too. I originally wanted to take it away directly, but afraid new ones would appear later, I thought about it and decided to tell you.”

“Any suspects? Did you call the police? Why not install a surveillance camera?” Jing Zhi asked several questions in a row.

The man pursed his lips, didn’t answer directly, but asked back somewhat helplessly: “Do you believe what I said?”

Jing Zhi choked.

Actually, he didn’t completely believe it. Or rather, there were too many suspicious points, hard not to suspect if the man was directing and acting this himself.

Before Jing Zhi could respond, the man returned to his usual expression and continued: “It’s okay if you don’t believe it; normal people wouldn’t.”

“I don’t know the specific identity of that person, but I know that person is the cat abuser in our community. I’ve seen him, a man about 1.7 meters tall, but didn’t see his face. He knows I’m looking for him, so he takes revenge on me like this.”

“Called the police, but these few notes don’t prove anything. No fingerprints left on them, and no surveillance in the corridor, so it was left unsettled.”

“Installing surveillance is quite expensive. I’m not very well off, so forget it… That person is a coward, dare not do anything, and very timid, afraid of being discovered, only daring to secretly put some notes for revenge. I saw your family installed a new surveillance camera. If you see any suspicious person in it later, please tell me.”

The amount of information was a bit large. Jing Zhi nodded dully, said okay, thought for a moment, and added: “Let’s add each other on WeChat.”

Regardless of whether the man’s words were true or false, knowing more about him was always better for preparedness.

The man didn’t refuse either. He took out his phone from his somewhat worn winter clothes and added him on WeChat.

Jing Zhi believed 80-90% that he wasn’t well off because not only were his clothes worn, but his phone screen was also shattered into a spider web, affecting normal use, yet he hadn’t replaced it.

After adding WeChat friends, the man introduced himself: “My name is Zhu Shan.”

Jing Zhi also sent his name to his WeChat.

Zhu Shan’s gaze fell on the papers in Jing Zhi’s hand and said again: “I guess he suddenly put this stuff at your door probably because you also scolded the cat abuser in the homeowners’ group chat, and he holds a grudge against you too.”

The names of members in the homeowners’ group chat were remarked with house numbers. They did echo others in scolding the cat abuser in the group, after all, they raised a cat at home and couldn’t stand these things the most.

Zhu Shan: “It could also be to frame me deliberately, making more people reject me, because you would most likely think I put them there.”

This hit the nail on the head. They did suspect he put them there. Even after hearing him say so much, the doubts weren’t completely dispelled.

Jing Zhi asked directly: “What was the red stuff on your hand yesterday? It was blood, right?”

Zhu Shan hummed, thinking they indeed saw it, wondering if it scared that child, and explained: “It’s cat blood. That beast tortured and killed a few more cats recently. Yesterday I just buried the cats, and some blood clots stuck in my fingernails weren’t cleaned properly.”

Jing Zhi: “Why not post it in the group and unite everyone to find that cat abuser?”

“I don’t have any clues or evidence, and no one would believe someone like me who has been to prison. I also don’t really want to appear in everyone’s sight,” Zhu Shan gave a bitter smile. “You rented here in recent years, don’t know about things many years ago…”

His voice stopped abruptly, obviously not wanting to mention some past events.

Zhu Shan: “My work is also quite busy, almost always coming back in the early morning. That beast likes to secretly throw the tortured cats in the community in the dead of night. At that time, the cats can still meow a few times, so they are always discovered by me. Generally, within two hours, the cats freeze to death and make no sound. If the snow falls heavily, they are even covered completely and can’t be discovered for days.”

Jing Zhi didn’t know what to say, so he could only say: “Let’s see if the surveillance can capture anything later.”

Zhu Shan nodded.

Just then, a furry little head poked out from behind Jing Zhi.

Jing Zhi reached out subconsciously, wanting to push him back, but Jing Mimi hugged his leg firmly and wasn’t pushed.

It happened suddenly; he didn’t know if the little guy was scared by the conversation just now…

Jing Mimi naturally wasn’t scared. He knew long ago there was a hateful cat abuser here. And now, he also knew—the neighbor uncle was catching that cat abuser.

Jing Mimi hugged Papa’s leg and said indignantly: “Uncle, let’s catch the bad guy together!”

Zhu Shan was stunned upon hearing this, and an indescribable emotion surged in his heart.

How long had it been since someone stood on his side…

The little guy probably thought he was some hero catching bad guys.

But, would a hero have a criminal record?

But meeting those determined amber eyes, Zhu Shan suddenly didn’t feel so depressed anymore.

“Okay, let’s catch the bad guy together.”

Hero or not, he wanted to catch that cat abuser.

Seeing this, Jing Mimi continued his efforts: “Uncle, want to come to our house for a meal together? We can discuss how to catch the bad guy together.”

Zhu Shan was stunned again, subconsciously looked at Jing Zhi in front of him, reacted, and shook his head quickly to refuse: “No, no, Uncle has already cooked.”

Afraid of spoiling his fun, he added in a whisper: “Next time.”

He knew Jing Zhi didn’t fully trust him, and he could understand. If it were him, he wouldn’t trust easily either.

He hadn’t been a guest at someone else’s house for a long time. After getting out of prison, he ate almost all meals alone. To save money, he cooked one or two dishes to eat with steamed buns or rice every day, just making do to be full.

“Okay…” Although Jing Mimi was a bit disappointed, he had no other reason to invite the uncle to eat at home.

But the uncle lived right opposite them; there would be many opportunities in the future. In his opinion, this wasn’t a very difficult mission.

“Then I’ll go back first.” Zhu Shan moved his gaze from Jing Mimi to Jing Zhi.

Jing Zhi nodded and closed the door of his home after he turned around.

As soon as the door closed, Jiang Suifeng called again.

Jing Zhi pressed the answer button directly.

The surveillance at the door was connected to sound, and Jiang Suifeng heard their conversation completely on the other side just now.

Jing Zhi asked: “What do you think?”

Jiang Suifeng: “Hard to say. I’ll find someone to investigate him later.”

Jing Zhi hummed, his gaze falling on Jing Mimi, and asked impatiently: “Mimi, why did you say that uncle is very nice? And said he likes kittens very much.”

Jing Mimi tried to tell Papa the secret between the uncle and the kitten Mimi before.

Because he didn’t admit his identity as a kitten directly, and he was facing Papa, he wasn’t restricted.

Jiang Suifeng on the other end of the phone naturally heard it too, lowering his voice: “I remember now. That time the kitten ran out and wasn’t discovered by us in time, locked out for a long time. It was when we found out we ran out of condoms and ordered a takeout runner to deliver them. I heard the doorbell and went to open the door. After opening the door, I didn’t see anyone but found the kitten locked outside. I was too anxious at the time and didn’t pay much attention. I let the cat in and went back to the bedroom.”

Jing Zhi: “…”

Fortunately, he didn’t turn on the speakerphone.

After Jing Mimi died, it went to Planet Meow.

The God of Planet Meow said to it: Mimi, welcome to the Cat Paradise. All the cats here will be your new family.

Mimi let out a "meow" and burst into tears: I want Papa.

The soft-hearted Cat God eventually sent this crybaby kitten back to its fathers' side.

In exchange, Mimi had to assist the Cat God in fulfilling the wishes of the kittens on Planet Meow.

For example, placing a kitten's favorite foxtail grass at their owner's doorstep; rubbing a little hand cream on the hand of a human scratched by a kitten; or giving a gentle kiss to the owner's newborn baby...

**

On the day the cat they had raised together for many years passed away, after yet another argument, Jing Zhi broke down and asked to break up.

Not long after, Jing Zhi found a sleeping little cub at his doorstep.

The little cub didn't cry or fuss; he just loved to burrow into his arms.

Soon, he learned his very first sound: "Meow."

**

After a cooling-off period following the breakup, Jiang Suifeng finally returned from his business trip. The first thing he did was buy a bouquet of Jing Zhi's favorite Chinese roses to apologize and seek reconciliation.

Unexpectedly, from a distance, he saw his boyfriend holding a little cub in his arms. The cub was calling out "Papa" with every breath, and his appearance actually bore a resemblance to his boyfriend.

Jiang Suifeng felt like he had been struck by a bolt from the blue. His brain crashed, unable to think. The flowers in his hand fell to the ground as he strode swiftly up to Jing Zhi, his eyes red, demanding an explanation.

The little cub blinked his eyes, suddenly giggled at him, and called out "Papa" again.

Jing Zhi looked at him as well. "Don't you think he looks a bit like you, too?"
