Chapter 9: Dog-Blood High Society
The lighting in the French restaurant was dim, the atmosphere quiet and elegant.
Mr. Jin returned from the restroom, wiping his hands with a paper towel. He didn’t sit down immediately. Instead, he leaned in mysteriously towards the prim and proper Lu Shichen and said, “I just saw someone. Guess who?”
Lu Shichen’s sense of humor was practically non-existent. “Can’t guess,” he said, his face blank.
“Hey…” Mr. Jin pondered for a moment, scratching his ear. “But I saw he had black hair and was dressed quite gentlemanly. Maybe I saw wrong.”
Lu Shichen’s expression flickered, and he slowly raised his head.
Mr. Jin pulled out a chair and sat down, finishing his sentence, “It probably wasn’t your nephew. Come on, let’s eat.”
The knife and fork in Lu Shichen’s hand fell onto the table. He suppressed his emotions, forcing two words through gritted teeth, “…What?”
【Gu Xiu.】
Seeing the new message pop up on his phone, Gu Xiu’s heart tightened, fearing it was a late-night summons to work overtime.
Have a heart, Ninth Uncle…!
His prayers seemed to work. Lu Shichen’s next message was simple: 【Where are you?】
Gu Xiu quickly replied: 【Just finished dinner with a friend. So tired and sleepy, about to go home and sleep!!!】
Three exclamation marks, indicating a strong desire for the weary bird to return to its nest.
Fortunately, Lu Shichen wasn’t a completely cold-blooded, heartless capitalist. He didn’t send any more messages. But the problem was, where was Lu Shichen? He should be in this restaurant too, right? There was still a plot to follow!
Gu Xiu didn’t dare to wander around. He glanced at Jiang Yuan Yao opposite him and asked tentatively, “Before we go, don’t you want to use the restroom?”
“Sure,” Jiang Yuan Yao smiled. “Let’s go together.”
Gu Xiu: “…”
007: 【It’s just a small problem, it’s fine, Jiujiu. You have to believe in the fate between the protagonist gong and shou. They’ll meet eventually.】
“…No.” Gu Xiu picked up his suit jacket. “I’m going home first.”
“Gu Xiu, let’s go together…”
Jiang Yuan Yao hurriedly chased after him.
The two left the restaurant one after the other. Outside, the night had fallen, and the city lights were just coming on. The bleak autumn wind couldn’t diminish the bustling nightlife. A row of various luxury cars was parked quietly by the roadside.
Not even a shadow of a passerby was in sight. Gu Xiu felt a slight headache. He had no choice but to ask the person sticking to him like a piece of dog-skin plaster, “Didn’t you say you booked a room at the hotel opposite? You should go back. I’m going back too.”
“No hurry,” Jiang Yuan Yao said eagerly. “I’ll walk you home.”
Gu Xiu had to take a taxi home. As he looked for the taxi stand, the two of them inevitably walked together for a while. Every time Gu Xiu quickened his pace, Jiang Yuan Yao would jog to catch up, always staying close behind him.
Tonight, Gu Xiu had been vigilant and hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol. But at this moment, a strange itching sensation spread throughout his body, forcing him to a halt.
Gu Xiu controlled his expression, but his heart was in a slight panic as he called the system: 【007! Could I have been parasitized by an alien creature?】
【…】 007 was speechless for a moment. 【This is a safe and scientific modern world! There’s no such thing!】
The strange itching sensation, as if his body was covered in bugs, felt very familiar. If it wasn’t a parasite, then it must be a virus…
Scratching his arm through his clothes wasn’t enough. Gu Xiu quickly rolled up his sleeve. The fair, smooth skin of his arm was marred by a patch of red rash.
【Ah! What’s wrong?】 007 also exclaimed.
“Gu Xiu, are you okay?” Jiang Yuan Yao stepped forward with concern, looking down at his arm.
Gu Xiu’s face turned pale, but he still waved his hand dismissively, refusing Jiang Yuan Yao’s approach.
“You’re having an allergic reaction. What are you allergic to?” Jiang Yuan Yao’s life experience was much richer than Gu Xiu’s. He thought Gu Xiu was worried about infecting him. Feeling both heartache and pity, he grabbed his hand without a second thought. “It’s okay, it’s not contagious…”
Gu Xiu was in extreme discomfort. For a moment, he couldn’t even break free from the grip of the weak, nineteen-year-old boy.
The two of them were pulling and tugging on the street, and Lu Shichen, who had just come out of the restaurant, saw the whole thing.
He watched as Jiang Yuan Yao was about to put Gu Xiu’s arm over his shoulder, muttering, “It’s okay, we’ll just go to the hotel and rest for a while.”
“Gu Xiu.”
A low, cold voice, carried by the night wind, forcefully wedged itself between the two, who were in an ambiguous atmosphere.
Jiang Yuan Yao’s movements froze. Gu Xiu took the opportunity to pull away from him and look behind him.
007 was so excited it was screaming: 【The protagonist gong’s jealousy is overflowing! But Jiujiu… are you okay?】
Gu Xiu’s face was pale, and his mental energy fluctuations had also weakened: 【Do I look okay to you?】
At least the development of the plot was gratifying. Gu Xiu took a moment to recover and said in his mind: 【Although there was a slight deviation, this plot point should be considered complete, right?】
【Very smooth! But…】 After its excitement, 007 poured a basin of cold water. 【The completion rate of ‘Key Plot Point 2’ has reached 85%. It will be a perfect success as long as the protagonist gong takes out his handkerchief.】
Lu Shichen strode towards the two of them. His gaze lingered on Gu Xiu for a moment, then turned to Jiang Yuan Yao beside him.
Jiang Yuan Yao pursed his lips. Under the pressure of the other’s gaze, his fingers inexplicably curled up, and he didn’t dare to reach for Gu Xiu again.
Gu Xiu hung his listless black head, his mind solely focused on following the plot.
And in a place he didn’t notice, the protagonist gong and shou’s eyes met, an undercurrent surging between them.
“Gu Xiu, come with me.”
As the voice fell, an arm appeared in front of Gu Xiu, dressed in a black suit similar to his own.
The man’s fingers were long and slender, with distinct knuckles. They opened and closed, gripping his wrist.
This time, Lu Shichen was so angry he didn’t want to say another word. He grabbed him and turned to leave.
“Wait, wait, Ninth Uncle…”
No matter how many times Gu Xiu called out, Lu Shichen didn’t slow down, nor did he look back.
“…”
The powerless Gu Xiu was shoved into the car.
Only then did Lu Shichen notice his pale face. He couldn’t help but frown and ask, “What’s wrong?”
Gu Xiu squinted his eyes, his voice as thin as a thread. “I don’t know either…”
Seeing him so clueless and mistreating his own body, Lu Shichen was furious. He sent a message to the family doctor to be on standby and immediately started the car to go home.
This time, he was going back to the villa in the suburbs.
The environment here was quiet and secluded. Although it was a bit far from the company, it could at least stop Gu Xiu from going out to mess around.
The highway was clear all the way, and they reached their destination in just twenty minutes.
Gu Xiu was drowsy. Lu Shichen called him twice with no response. Upon closer inspection, the young man’s handsome face was unusually shiny, reflecting the warm orange light of the overhead lamp. It was covered in fine beads of cold sweat.
007 had lost contact with Gu Xiu for a while, searching through its database for a solution. Then, the round, silver ball of light appeared and bumped into Gu Xiu’s shoulder, trying to wake him up, shouting, 【Jiujiu! Are you having an allergic reaction? What did you eat that you’re allergic to? Do you need to induce vomiting and have your stomach pumped…】
Gu Xiu was woken up by the noise, but he wasn’t sure either: 【Today was my first time eating seafood.】
He paused, as if a thirsty person in the desert was lost in a hallucination. He continued to murmur, 【Yesterday was my first time eating a small cake… so sweet, so soft. The almond slices in it were the best. They enriched the texture, were fragrant and crispy, and could even cut through the richness.】
Even though he was in extreme discomfort, the thought of the wonderful little cake brought a sweet, nostalgic look to his face.
007’s bumps didn’t hurt him. The silver ball of light passed through his body, back and forth, anxiously shouting, 【Stop talking!】
Gu Xiu: 【I’m using my mental energy right now, not talking… uh.】
007: 【Jiujiu, Jiujiu! What’s wrong now?】
Gu Xiu didn’t even have the strength to use his mental energy anymore. The pain in his stomach was churning like a stormy sea, completely occupying his attention.
By the time he came to his senses, the scene in front of him had changed from the cramped car to a bright bathroom.
“…Huh?”
In the mirror, the man with half-rimmed glasses had his brow deeply furrowed. A vein was visible on his jawline, and his thin lips were tightly pressed together. Even his anxious and nervous expression exuded a sharp seriousness.
Gu Xiu was stripped of his suit jacket without any resistance. Both his sleeves were rolled up, and the red rash was exposed under the light, a gruesome sight.
“You’re having an allergic reaction,” Lu Shichen said with certainty, his voice low. “What did you eat? Don’t you know what you’re allergic to?”
Gu Xiu: “Uh…”
He really didn’t know. Could it be a seafood allergy?
Was it easy for him! He grew up in the cold and desolate main god space, which was highly mechanized. He was raised by an intelligent nanny robot and completed all his education and entertainment activities in the main god system, with not a single living creature around. As for food, there were only nutrient solutions of different functions and flavors, and nuts.
Later, when he went to work in those bizarre novel worlds, he often didn’t know where his next meal would come from. Let alone fresh, high-quality meat, sometimes even nutrient solutions were a luxury.
Gu Xiu’s chest under his white shirt heaved like waves. Squeezing out a single syllable had already exhausted all his strength.
“If you don’t want to go to the hospital to have your stomach pumped, open your mouth.”
Gu Xiu was confused, his eyes staring blankly at the man’s three-dimensional profile in the mirror.
He was just about to ask why.
The moment his lips parted, the man’s long fingers slipped in, one, then another.
Two fingers together, forcibly prying open his mouth.
“Mmph!?” Gu Xiu’s eyes widened, filled with shock.
His gaze had to shift from the mirror to the face that was so close to him. A high-bridged nose, and eyes that were a pale and distant gray. The cold light reflected from the frame of his glasses fell on his slightly lowered eyelashes.
It was a face that one would never dream would put its fingers in someone else’s mouth.
After a long moment, Lu Shichen’s Adam’s apple moved slightly.
His hoarse voice sounded as if it had been soaked in both smoke and alcohol, raspy and deep.
“Don’t bite.”
Gu Xiu blinked.
In case Gu Xiu suddenly resisted, Lu Shichen’s other hand clamped down on his jaw, preventing him from closing his teeth. Immediately after, the two fingers in his mouth probed a few centimeters deeper.
“…Mmph!”
The discomfort of his throat being invaded made Gu Xiu struggle violently. But the fingers holding his chin were as strong as iron clamps, making him unable to move. He had no choice but to endure the invasion.
The two fingers stirred around recklessly, and a strong wave of nausea rose from his stomach.
Lu Shichen quickly withdrew his hand and pushed his back, turning him to the other side.
“Throw up in the toilet.”
Gu Xiu’s legs went weak, and his vision went black. At the last moment, he hugged the support and threw up until he was dizzy.
“Blargh!”
“Blargh—”
【Ahhhhhh Jiujiu!!!】 007 was still screaming in his head, so annoying.
He threw up until he saw stars. All the high-end French food in his stomach was offered to the toilet, and the nauseating feeling finally subsided.
It was that familiar strange force again, pulling him up by the arm.
Gu Xiu was dizzy. The man’s face in front of him was still blurry, and he felt a soft cloth pressing against the corner of his mouth.
Upon closer inspection, wasn’t it that unlucky love token, the handkerchief?
Every strand of Gu Xiu’s hair resisted the reusable handkerchief. He turned his head away and grumbled, “…No handkerchief.”
Just then, 007 suddenly said: 【Huh? The completion rate of ‘Key Plot Point 2’ is actually 100%…】
Gu Xiu was stunned.
007 was in its own world of excitement: 【I didn’t expect the protagonist gong to take out his handkerchief like this. Jiujiu, you’re amazing!? At this rate, it’s not impossible to get an S-rank mission evaluation! Buying a house in the main god world is just around the corner, Jiujiu!!】
But the physically unwell Gu Xiu had no time to think about buying a house.
Faced with Gu Xiu, who was as willful as a three-year-old child, Lu Shichen was surprisingly patient and meticulous.
To be fair, even Lu Shichen himself found it incredible. He felt like a stranger now, like a nagging mother in a family drama.
Perhaps it was because the young man’s clean features were more pleasing to the eye than usual, or perhaps it was because of the beautiful little mole on his Adam’s apple that he had only recently discovered… or perhaps it was the lingering crispy, nutty aroma, or the mischievous willfulness that made people both love and hate him…
Lu Shichen threw away the despised handkerchief, wet his hands with clean water, and instead pressed his bare hands to the corners of Gu Xiu’s mouth, rubbing them left and right, carefully wiping away the filth.
He showed no disgust. A mist swirled in his smoke-gray eyes, revealing an emotion that was almost gentle.
He sighed softly and murmured, “Your stomach… how is it even worse than the parrot I used to have?”
And he’s still out there fooling around.
He’s only good for being taken advantage of.
