Chapter 25
Shen Tiantian gradually woke up to the noisy sound of a saw cutting through wood.
He opened his eyes in a daze, listening to the buzzing vibration of the machine by his ear, not reacting for a moment.
“What’s going on?”
Shen Tiantian wanted to yawn. He stretched his little hands and rolled over in bed, but the yawn didn’t come out. He looked down and saw the small saw next to him.
His little eyes instantly widened in fright.
Butler Zhou was old, so the task of sawing the railing naturally fell on the young and strong Shen Xiuze.
The railing was made of high-quality, expensive wood, and the material was tough. Shen Xiuze had been sawing for a while and had only managed to cut through one bar.
A little sweat beaded on the tip of Shen Xiuze’s nose. His hair was slightly messy and hung over his eyelids, but his dark, ink-like eyes were as cold as usual.
He lowered his eyes and looked at the little tyke who had just woken up.
He had a handsome face, but in Tiantian’s eyes, he was as terrifying as the villain in a cartoon who sawed off people’s heads!
Shen Tiantian pouted, trying hard to hold back the hot tears in his eyes, his little voice choked.
“Wuwu~”
He still couldn’t help but cry. Shen Tiantian pointed at the small saw and said:
“Don’t saw off my head. It’s very useful.”
After one bar of the railing was sawed off, Shen Tiantian successfully crawled out. He huddled in a corner of the small bed, trembling as he hugged his little head.
Shen Jinfeng, who had come over early in the morning to watch the show, stood to the side, brought his face closer, and looked at the crying little cub with great interest.
“Useful? This useless head of yours can’t even solve a math problem. What’s the use?”
When Shen Jinfeng opened his mouth, every word was a stab to the heart, instantly turning Shen Tiantian’s already sad and desolate little heart into a little hedgehog.
“Wuwah~”
Shen Tiantian wiped his tears. Thinking of the math problems he had gotten wrong yesterday, he felt even more upset.
“I just… I just can’t solve them. Are you… are you going to saw off my head?”
Shen Tiantian rubbed his red-rimmed eyes, one hand still clutching his head, afraid that if he wasn’t careful, Shen Xiuze would put the saw on his head.
Shen Jinfeng’s mischievous streak kicked in. He smiled like an insidious and cunning villain in a TV show, his gentle features sinking slightly as he scared the child:
“That’s right. Didn’t you know? In the Shen family, children who can’t solve math problems are all going to be kachak.”
Shen Xiuze looked at Shen Jinfeng, who was teasing the child, frowned, and gave him a sharp tap on the forehead.
“Stop talking nonsense.”
Shen Yuanchuan, who had been happily watching the show from the side, finally had enough fun. He walked over, picked up the little cub, and awkwardly patted his back to comfort him.
“It’s okay. Your brother is just teasing you.”
When Shen Tiantian saw his daddy, he had someone to rely on, and his little heart instantly fell back into his stomach.
He wiped his tears, rested his cheek on his daddy’s shoulder, and whimpered softly.
“Daddy, my brothers… want to… want to saw off my head. They’re… big bad guys!”
He was so angry he started to hiccup from crying, but he didn’t forget to tattle, speaking ill of his two brothers in front of Shen Yuanchuan.
Shen Yuanchuan saw how wronged and miserable his little son was. His heart ached a little. He wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes and comforted him:
“Your two brothers were saving you. You got your head stuck in the railing while sleeping this morning, so they had to bring a saw to cut the railing.”
Shen Tiantian didn’t believe it.
He rubbed his head, took a deep breath, and glared at his two brothers with fierce little eyes.
“Big bad-guy brothers!”
Turning his head, Shen Tiantian cupped his daddy’s face and said in a soft and sweet little milky voice:
“Daddy, can you give the company to me? My brothers want to saw off my head. It must be… because it’s too smart!”
Shen Xiuze & Shen Jinfeng: “…”
What nonsense is this little brat mumbling about?
“You’re really not shy, are you, Shen Tiantian? Who praises themselves like that?”
Shen Jinfeng folded his arms and leaned in, wanting to see how Shen Tiantian’s head was wired to be so bold.
Shen Tiantian turned his head away, avoiding Shen Jinfeng’s gaze.
His eyes were still a little guilty. He cleared his throat and looked up at his daddy, acting spoiled.
“Daddy, big brother is glaring at me. Can you protect me? Give the company to me, not to him!”
Shen Yuanchuan found that he was quite susceptible to Shen Tiantian’s cute act.
His eyes and face were round, and the things he said were adorable. When he stared at people, he was like a chubby little mushroom.
The key was that he was also amusingly foolish, always making people want to laugh.
Shen Yuanchuan’s lips hadn’t been down all morning. He held the sticky little rice cake cub, patted his bottom, and pretended to ponder.
“The matter of the company requires careful consideration. Let me think about it.”
Hearing this, Shen Tiantian immediately pressed his little face against his daddy’s and solemnly declared:
“Daddy and I are the best in the world!”
The old father’s heart was instantly softened.
After Shen Yuanchuan’s mouth split into a grin, it never went down.
“Good. Tiantian must remember what you said.”
Shen Tiantian hummed in acknowledgment and nodded solemnly. He glanced at his two speechless brothers standing on the side, covered his mouth, and whispered:
“Then the best daddy has to give the company to me.”
The corner of Shen Yuanchuan’s mouth twitched. He reached out and gave Shen Tiantian a slap on the bottom.
“All you think about is getting the company from me!”
Shen Tiantian got a slap on the bottom and was furious. He struggled to jump down from his daddy’s arms and stood on the small bed, sulking.
Now, he declared, he and his daddy were no longer the best in the world!
Shen Yuanchuan saw through his little son’s thoughts at a glance, slapped his forehead, and felt that he was a lost cause.
“Let’s go. We’ve been making a fuss all morning. Breakfast is getting cold.”
Only then did Shen Tiantian turn his little face, climb down from the small bed with one wooden railing sawed off, put on his little shoes, and, with his little face held high, said to Shen Xiuze in a serious tone:
“Big brother, you sawed off my railing. You have to compensate me with a new little bed.”
A vein throbbed at Shen Xiuze’s temple. He glanced at Shen Jinfeng, who was gloating and enjoying the show on the side, and directly took the small saw and stuffed it into his hands.
“Shen Jinfeng sawed it. Ask him for it.”
Shen Jinfeng held the small saw, cursed what the hell, and gritted his back teeth hard.
“Shen Xiuze, what are you doing?! Playing dirty, are you?”
Shen Jinfeng was furious. His eyes darted, and he stuffed the small saw back into Shen Tiantian’s arms.
“Don’t look at me. I didn’t do it either.”
Shen Tiantian was inexplicably holding a saw, his eyes filled with confusion. He stood there in a daze for a moment.
When he came to his senses and looked up again, he found that his two brothers had already rushed downstairs.
Shen Tiantian was so angry he almost exploded on the spot.
Puffing out his little cheeks, Shen Tiantian was carried downstairs by Auntie Mu. He sat in his baby chair, and even chewed his food with a crunching sound.
But today’s breakfast included fragrant egg yolk rolls and small soy-sauce meat buns. The more Shen Tiantian ate, the happier he became, and in the end, he even forgot about being angry.
Shen Jinfeng watched him turn his head and forget everything in a flash, and couldn’t help but shake his head and laugh.
Shen Yuanchuan was also discussing with his eldest son:
“Tiantian’s kindergarten, maybe we should change it.”
He felt that the little one was not very suitable for an elite kindergarten.
Shen Xiuze couldn’t agree more. He nodded and said:
“I’ll go and see which kindergartens have better art classes later and take Tiantian for a trial class.”
Shen Yuanchuan hummed in acknowledgment, looked at Shen Xiuze, and a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes.
“Xiuze, you’re quite concerned about Tiantian’s affairs. You’re acting more and more like a big brother now.”
Shen Xiuze was stunned for a moment. His fingertips curled slightly, then clenched. He frowned slightly and asked:
“Am I?”
He didn’t seem to have done much.
Shen Yuanchuan just smiled and sighed. He turned his head and patted Shen Jinfeng’s arm, which was deliberately snatching the little one’s egg roll, telling him not to provoke his little brother.
“Your little brother is like a little gas canister incarnate. You still dare to provoke him.”
Shen Jinfeng laughed, said “oh,” and quickly buried his head in his food.
The little gas canister, Tiantian, didn’t hear what his daddy was saying at all. He stuffed the super delicious egg dumpling into his mouth, ate until his belly was full, and wiped his mouth in satisfaction.
Seeing that his daddy and brothers hadn’t gone to work yet, Shen Tiantian mimicked their appearance and coughed heavily twice.
He put on a grand air.
Sure enough, the father and three sons all stopped to look at him.
“What mischief are you up to?” Shen Jinfeng asked lazily, folding his arms and looking at the little one.
Shen Tiantian didn’t like to hear that. His big, round eyes glared at Shen Jinfeng, and he said:
“My grandma is coming over today. And she’s bringing a little kid. I have to entertain them well.”
Tiantian, who was about to be a little host, felt that he had matured at this moment and was a grown-up who could stand shoulder to shoulder with his brothers.
Shen Yuanchuan didn’t know that Shen Tiantian had a grandma. He thought that Shen Tiantian only had an aunt and a cousin.
“Have Auntie Mu help entertain them. Don’t neglect the elderly.”
Although the other party was an elder, Shen Yuanchuan had no intention of staying to entertain them.
This was his attitude not only towards Shen Tiantian’s elders but also towards Shen Xiuze’s uncle and Shen Jinfeng’s mother. Shen Yuanchuan treated them all the same.
After all, he was a businessman with a cold heart. Shen Yuanchuan’s concept of family was very weak, and he had never married anyone, so he didn’t really acknowledge his sons’ relatives on their mothers’ side.
He acknowledged his own biological children, but as for the others, they were strangers.
However, since it was Tiantian’s grandma, Shen Yuanchuan also gave some face, asking Auntie Mu to help entertain them and even preparing a guest room.
As for Shen Xiuze, before he left for work, he asked a few more questions about Shen Tiantian’s grandma’s situation.
“What’s this about another little kid?”
Shen Jinfeng also hadn’t left. He propped up his chin and, seeing Shen Xiuze’s worried expression, looked at him with curiosity, as if he didn’t recognize him.
Shen Tiantian didn’t know either. He scratched his chin, which had a thin scab on it, and said:
“I dunno.”
Shen Xiuze took Shen Tiantian’s hand away, looked at his chin for a while, frowned, and reminded him:
“The wound has scabbed over. Don’t scratch it. It won’t look good if it leaves a scar.”
Shen Tiantian was very concerned about his appearance. Hearing this, he quickly nodded.
