Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Mad Scientist’s Domesticated Little Zombie 21

Chapter 21: He’s Going to Capture Shi Changyuan and Keep Him as a Pet Too…

“Does Lingling trust me that much?”

Shi Changyuan chuckled softly, staring straight at the young man before him.

“That’s because I thought you didn’t know!”

The little zombie hurriedly defended himself, but when he met Shi Changyuan’s deep gaze, he felt a bit uneasy. His eyelashes fluttered, and he looked away in a panic.

Both Shi Changyuan’s fake collar and the little zombie’s bold actions were just tests during their first meeting.

But for some reason, these tests were suddenly exposed today, making the atmosphere instantly very strange.

The little zombie looked at the human opposite him, his slow heart pounding. He had a feeling that something dangerous had been uncovered.

“Is Lingling always this obedient?”

Shi Changyuan moved closer, reached out and held the back of the little zombie’s neck again, cupping his cheek, and half-forced the young man to look up and meet his gaze.

“If I ask Lingling not to leave, will Lingling be this obedient and listen?”

The same gentle, smiling voice and tone, but the attitude in his words was completely different from before, as if everything before had been a disguise.

In this contrast, Lin Ling finally got a glimpse of the true face hidden under the gentle white lab coat.

The other side of Shi Changyuan.

**

“I knew it! You never planned to let me go.”

The little zombie stared blankly for a long time before finally, in the strange atmosphere, grasping the substantive content.

This shout carried a hint of “I knew it” excitement, as if he had caught Shi Changyuan’s tail, looking smug.

“I knew you must have some scheme!”

“I thought you were strange since this morning. See! I found you out! This is the evidence!”

“It’s a good thing I came along, otherwise I would have been fooled!”

Although Lin Ling hadn’t figured out the connection between these things, or what scheme Shi Changyuan had in coming to the military, he decided to let his intuition replace his brain, give up on deep thinking, and say whatever came to mind, act however his intuition told him to.

But this long string of words did indeed break the strange, sticky atmosphere.

Shi Changyuan lowered his gaze, released his hand, and smiled. “Lingling found me out.”

With that, he led the little zombie away from the military, got back in the car, and prepared to return to the research institute.

“I really didn’t plan on letting Lin Ling go.”

Shi Changyuan started the engine and, as he spoke, leaned over towards Lin Ling in the passenger seat.

Under the little zombie’s wary gaze, he pulled the seatbelt over and clicked it shut with a “click.”

The questioning words the little zombie had prepared were instantly forgotten with this interruption.

“Lingling’s request was only to go home.”

Shi Changyuan glanced at the young man, who was firmly fixed in his seat by the seatbelt, his face full of indignation. He chuckled lightly.

“I know the location of Lingling’s final destination.”

“I can take Lingling back to City B first, let Lingling go home, and then use some little tricks to lure you back.”

“Or, be captured by me again.”

Hearing Shi Changyuan’s words, the little zombie was stunned by the cunning human’s methods.

“I knew you were a bad guy!”

“Cunning human!”

The little zombie sat in the passenger seat, grumbling, so angry that all his cat fur stood on end.

“Do you humans have so many tricks? You’re not sincere like us zombies at all!”

“We zombies always mean what we say. Have you been corrupted by humans? Why don’t you just join us zombies?”

Hearing the little zombie’s last sentence, which had a hint of showing his true colors, Shi Changyuan let out a muffled laugh.

“What are you laughing at?!!”

The evil human’s laughter made the little zombie even more furious. He let out a heavy “hmph” and began a one-sided cold war with Shi Changyuan. No matter how Shi Changyuan tried to coax him, he would not speak to him!

“Really angry?”

Back at the research institute, Shi Changyuan found that Lin Ling had been “mute” for almost ten minutes. Even when others greeted Little Lin Ling, the young man just nodded politely without speaking.

He seemed determined to hold his breath until he died.

“Yo, had a fight?”

Miao Xue heard the news from others and immediately rushed to the scene with Old Duan’s “condolences.”

“What exactly happened? Tell me. I might not be able to help, but I can definitely stir up trouble… no, I mean, I won’t stir up trouble.”

…Although Miao Xue was a human, she didn’t seem to be on Shi Changyuan’s side.

The little zombie was tempted. He wanted to consult someone, but he caught a glimpse of the evil Shi Changyuan standing beside him out of the corner of his eye and let out another heavy “hmph” to express his protest and dissatisfaction.

“Hey, Little Lin Ling is trying to shoo you away.”

Miao Xue seemed to have truly understood the meaning of the little zombie’s huff and boldly stood up to drive him away.

Being driven away in his own private lab—this was a first.

Shi Changyuan stared at Miao Xue for a few seconds, then slowly shifted his gaze back to the young man.

“Ahem.”

Lin Ling lifted his chin towards the door, which could no longer be described as a hint.

Seeing that Lin Ling really wanted him to leave, Shi Changyuan was a bit helpless. In the end, he still went over and ruffled the little zombie’s hair, then really left the lab, giving the two of them some space.

“He’s gone. You can talk now, Little Lin Ling.”

Miao Xue returned to Lin Ling’s side. Seeing the young man let out a long sigh of relief, she quickly handed him a glass of water.

“What did you two fight about? This is a first.”

“He broke his promise!”

The little zombie finally saw someone who could uphold justice and loudly accused him, as if afraid the people outside couldn’t hear.

“Specifically?”

Miao Xue very seriously turned on her phone’s voice recorder, planning to let Professor Duan hear Lin Ling’s original words.

“Specifically… specifically, it’s… it’s not easy to say.”

Lin Ling stammered. He couldn’t tell Miao Xue and Professor Duan about his plan to go to City B.

After all, Professor Duan was also from City B. If he accidentally revealed a little, he might be exposed.

At this thought, Lin Ling became nervous.

He looked at Miao Xue, who was still waiting for him to give the details, and his gaze subconsciously drifted towards the door, searching for a familiar figure.

“I-I can use an analogy.”

With Shi Changyuan, who could get him out of trouble, in a cold war, the little zombie could only rely on himself. He tilted his head and decided to put it another way.

“Shi Changyuan and I played a game. He lost. He clearly promised me one thing, but he twisted the concept!”

“L-Like, for example, he clearly promised to take me to the cafeteria to eat something delicious, but although he took me to the cafeteria, what he bought me was not the beef I wanted to eat at all, but what he himself likes to eat! To me, that’s not the ‘delicious’ thing he originally promised me at all!”

Lin Ling spoke quickly and angrily, clearly very upset.

“Does that make sense, Sister Miao Xue?”

“It does.”

Miao Xue waved her hand. “I’ll give Little Lin Ling a tip.”

With that, Miao Xue beckoned with her finger, signaling for the young man to come closer for a private talk.

“Although Shi Changyuan is being a real jerk, it’s a little trick that all men like to play.”

Miao Xue smiled, full of confidence.

“But Lin Ling can find a way yourself. You first let Shi Changyuan take you to the cafeteria. As for what to eat at the cafeteria, can Shi Changyuan really have the final say?”

“In the end, who eats whom, doesn’t that just depend on your own abilities?”

Miao Xue’s words instantly opened up a whole new world for the little zombie.

That’s right.

Who eats whom is not yet certain!

When we get to City B, won’t that be my territory? Why should it still be Shi Changyuan capturing me, and not me capturing Shi Changyuan?

The first time he was captured was just because he was careless. How could he be sure he would fall for it a second time?

“I get it! You humans are so full of tricks!”

Lin Ling jumped up, his eyes sparkling with praise, his goal clear.

He was going back to City B, and he was going to capture Shi Changyuan and keep him as a pet too!

But what does that have to do with a little zombie?

After eighteen years in hiding, Lin Ling throws off his disguise, ready to run through the streets and celebrate his new position at the top of the food chain.

But the moment he pokes his head out, a cunning human throws a sack over him and carts him away.

Shivering, Lin Ling stares at the mad scientist before him, clad in a white lab coat and holding a syringe. He can already picture his fate on the dissection table.

He trembles and asks tentatively, "Why did you capture me? QAQ"

"You're a stray," the mad scientist replies.

The little zombie is heartbroken. "Do strays have to be captured?"

The man flips through the Novice Pet-Rearing Guide in his hands and offers some comfort. "But you were the liveliest and cutest one in the entire zombie horde."

The mad scientist struggles to think of another reason, then adds, "…One must adopt via abduction."
