Chapter 20: The Spoiled Villain in a Period Novel 20
Of course, Xu Nongqing also heard the voice outside.
But at this moment, his eyes were only on Shu He, who was about to be kissed to tears. He had no time to think about what the words outside meant.
Xu Nongqing’s slightly hot hand rested on the back of Shu He’s snow-white neck. Shu He trembled slightly. He was ticklish, especially on the back of his neck. A single touch would make him shiver. But every time, Xu Nongqing seemed to do it on purpose, always holding him here to kiss him.
He couldn’t hide, couldn’t avoid it. How could there be such a bad protagonist…
Shu He was kissed until his mouth couldn’t even close. His small, soft tongue was faintly visible, exuding a light, sweet fragrance.
He was kissed again and again by this bad guy, who was usually so serious but couldn’t listen to reason when they kissed. The philtrum of his tender lips turned red, and he struggled, tears falling.
Crystalline teardrops hung on his beautiful lower eyelids, only to be kissed away with tenderness.
Butler Fang didn’t see anyone answer him and approached the door with suspicion.
He raised his hand and knocked. The slight vibration traveled to Shu He’s slender back, which was pressed against the door.
Shu He weakly raised his hand and grabbed a bit of Xu Nongqing’s hair. He didn’t dare to make a sound, staring at him with a threatening look.
But his fingers were still trembling, his almond eyes filled with tears, showing no threat at all.
Like a calico cat with its claws clipped.
Xu Nongqing compromised.
He gently wiped the teardrops from Shu He’s eyes with his thumb, held him in his arms, and whispered in his ear, “Do you want to wait a while before seeing your Uncle Fang? Right now, you…”
His eyes were red.
His lips were too.
He looked like he had been bullied.
It was only then that Shu He realized what Xu Nongqing had left unsaid. He pursed his numb lips, his cheeks puffed out, the small dimples on his cheeks filled with anger.
The protagonist was done for!
When they broke up, he was going to throw a lot of nasty words at him!
Shu He pinched and hit Xu Nongqing a couple of times with force. It actually hurt a little, but Xu Nongqing’s eyes were filled with a hint of a smile. He looked at him carefully and pointed to the bed, telling him to go over.
Then, he said to Butler Fang at the door, “Wait a moment. He just woke up and is changing his clothes.”
Butler Fang had no objection.
Of course, he couldn’t imagine that the young master would be seduced by this man from a poor mountain village. Hearing this, he just said “Oh” and stood to the side to wait.
To cover up his guilt, Shu He actually went to change his clothes and even played with the slightly grown-up puppy for a while.
When he came out, he was adjusting his collar, his head slightly lowered. The collar was folded against his long, snow-white neck, and he was pulling it out with his fingers.
It looked very realistic, as if he had just woken up. But why did his eyes seem a little wet…?
Butler Fang hesitated for a moment.
But he quickly reassured himself. Maybe everyone was like this when they just woke up.
Butler Fang walked over to Shu He, looked him up and down, and then said with a smile, “The young master hasn’t lost any weight. That’s great. The physical check-up this time should be fine too.”
After speaking, he turned to Xu Nongqing. “Mr. Xu, thank you for your trouble during this time. I’ll be taking the young master back to the city in a moment. By the way, I brought a lot of snacks from the city. Please see if there’s anything you’re interested in, and you can distribute the rest to the villagers later.”
“Back to the city?” Xu Nongqing completely ignored the rest of his words.
Hearing that Shu He was leaving, his thoughts froze for a second. He instinctively looked at the boy who was still struggling with his collar.
“Why does this shirt feel so weird…” Shu He was a little unhappy. This collar was harder to deal with than his animal costume.
Xu Nongqing reached out, his fingers brushing against the side of Shu He’s neck to help him fix it. The tingling sensation forced Shu He to once again recall what had just happened behind the door.
He turned his head, his almond eyes blinking a couple of times. He pursed his lips seriously and said, “I’m going home for a physical check-up. I’ll be back after a while. It just so happens you’re going into business with your mom, so let’s just be apart for a bit.”
With just a few words, Xu Nongqing’s wandering thoughts were reined in.
Just a temporary separation. A long-distance relationship, then.
He was silent for a moment. “After a while… when is that?”
“Maybe summer vacation.” Shu He wasn’t sure himself.
Butler Fang’s gaze swept over the two of them. Their relationship seemed to have improved quite a bit…
“Uncle Fang, let’s go.” Shu He wasn’t taking anything back with him and walked over to Butler Fang’s side.
The departure was too sudden, leaving no time for many things to be said. Xu Nongqing followed silently behind Shu He all the way, watching him get into the car. He only managed to say one thing:
“Write to me.”
The car door slammed shut, kicking up dust from the ground. Shu He rolled down the window, his pale face peeking out slightly. He smiled, a dimple appearing on his cheek.
His outstretched hand gently caught Xu Nongqing’s sleeve.
“Xu Nongqing.”
“You’re going to be ambitious, right?”
Even before leaving, he didn’t forget to urge the protagonist to strive for more.
Shu He felt he was very dedicated.
Seeing Xu Nongqing nod, he was satisfied and pulled his hand back, leaning towards the front of the car. “Butler Fang, let’s go.”
“Just a moment, Young Master. Let me take out all the snacks and have Mr. Xu distribute them first.”
Butler Fang bustled about for a while before taking out the snacks and piling them on the ground. Just as he was about to get in the car, he caught a glimpse of something small at his feet.
“Woof woof!”
The puppy had somehow followed them down and was now wagging its tail furiously, yapping. Hearing the noise, Shu He leaned out the window again. “Little Fu!”
The puppy’s name was Xingfu (T/N: Happiness). Shu He had named it.
Little Fu immediately put its front paws on the side of the car window, looking at Shu He with reluctant yaps, wanting to lick his face.
But it was too small now and couldn’t reach him at all.
Shu He’s heart softened. He leaned against the window and patted the puppy’s head, then told Xu Nongqing to carry it back so it wouldn’t get run over by the car.
Xu Nongqing stepped forward.
He bent down to pick up the puppy. As he straightened up, he swiftly kissed the hand Shu He had resting on the edge of the window.
Startled, Shu He immediately pulled his hand back.
He reflexively glanced at Butler Fang. After confirming he hadn’t been seen, he shot a fierce glare at Xu Nongqing.
Xu Nongqing looked at him softly, his dark eyes focused. “Goodbye.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the car drove off, kicking up dust. The dog immediately started yapping. Some farmers heard the commotion and came over to see what was happening. Seeing the snacks, they asked Xu Nongqing what they were.
In front of outsiders, Xu Nongqing’s expression quickly turned indifferent.
He said coldly that the Shu family had sent them for everyone. As the villagers scrambled for the snacks, Xu Nongqing himself withdrew from the crowd, carrying the dejected puppy back to his house.

Shu He hadn’t expected life back home to be so comfortable.
There were no little flying insects in the house, the weather wasn’t so fickle, and with the heating on, he didn’t have to change clothes often and could eat all sorts of delicious food.
When his parents saw Shu He, they were relieved that he hadn’t lost any weight, which was the best possible news. The results of his physical examination also came back. Everything was fine, even a little better than when he had left.
It seemed the mountain air and water truly did nourish a person.
However, when they heard that Shu He wanted to go back, they still disapproved. Shu He’s mother even said, “A remote mountain village like that… Mom isn’t at ease with you staying there all the time. You have no idea how much Dad and I have missed you these past few months.”
“I know.” Shu He hugged a large stuffed doll in his arms as if he were hugging one of his parents. He pressed his pale cheek against the soft fabric and said contentedly, “I’ll just go play for a few more months and then I’ll be back. I won’t go again after that.”
Shu He’s mother: “What’s there to miss so much?”
“The mountains, and the people.” Shu He made something up. “I also have a puppy there named Little Fu.”
Shu He’s father: “…Dogs shed. Your health isn’t good, you can’t have one.”
“It won’t. Little Fu’s fur isn’t long.” Shu He’s voice was a little soft. He buried his face in the large doll, shook his head, and couldn’t help but whine, “Please?”
“Alright, alright.” How could his mother resist? She stood up and stroked the soft black hair on the back of Shu He’s neck. “Your hair has gotten long. It’s time for a cut.”
Speaking of which, Shu He’s father suddenly remembered something else. “Didn’t we talk about cultivating a hobby before? How is your self-study of the violin coming along? If you like it, let’s cultivate that.”
Shu He quite liked it. “Okay.”
“Mom will find a professional teacher for you,” his mother said seriously. “The doctor said that having a goal to cultivate is also very important for recuperation. Seeing things you like will also improve your mood.”
Shu He nodded. Before long, he went to the mailbox to get a letter from Xu Nongqing. Although Xu Nongqing hadn’t read many books, his handwriting was surprisingly beautiful.
During their long-distance relationship, the letters never stopped.
Xu Nongqing rarely mentioned business matters. It was unclear if he was only reporting the good news and not the bad, but he only asked how he was doing recently, if his health was okay, and what he was up to.
Shu He naturally picked and chose what to reply with as well.
He said his check-up results were good, and that he was taking lessons with a violin teacher. He had to take a level exam soon. As he wrote, he couldn’t help but mention that his violin teacher was very strict, and he was a little afraid of him.
A few days later, Xu Nongqing sent back another long letter. Only at the end did he ask how old the violin teacher was.
As Shu He was writing the letter, he looked up at the man sitting at the table, highlighting key sentences in a professional book for him.
He was a young man. Handsome, but he looked a bit fierce when he wasn’t speaking. He was also fierce and very serious when teaching.
But outside of a teaching setting, he was actually quite easy to get along with in private.
“Teacher Qiao.” Shu He thought for a moment and asked directly, “How old are you?”
Qiao Zelan looked up, his gaze sweeping over Shu He’s beautiful face. He answered, “29. Why?”
“Nothing.” Shu He lowered his head and continued writing. He was writing so seriously that Qiao Zelan had thought he was taking notes. But when he got closer, he realized it was a letter.
Before he could get a clear look, Shu He suddenly looked up at him and covered the paper with his hand. “What are you doing?”
Qiao Zelan chuckled. “Can’t I see?”
“No.” Shu He turned his head, soft strands of hair falling along the curve of his ear. He covered it tightly until he saw Qiao Zelan throw up his hands and walk away. Only then did he lower his head and continue writing, his expression exceptionally focused.
He wondered who was on the other end of that letter.
Qiao Zelan toyed with the pen in his hand, squinting at him.

Meanwhile, Xu’s mother took Xu Nongqing to the company to familiarize him with its current main business direction.
She was actually quite worried.
Although this child, Xu Nongqing, had gotten good grades in school, he hadn’t had much formal education in the end. She didn’t know how quick he was on the uptake, or where she should even begin with him…
Xu’s mother could only start with the simple logic of the industry.
She explained it in a somewhat complex way, but what was even more complex was that Xu Nongqing understood it all in one go and even asked some very precise questions.
“Have you had contact with this before?” Xu’s mother was now a little suspicious.
Xu Nongqing was silent for two seconds before denying it. “Little He gave me a book. It had case studies.”
Little He.
Xu’s mother knew he was talking about Shu He. Before leaving Wang Family Village last time, she had specifically asked the other villagers and learned that this beautiful child was from the city, just temporarily staying at Xu Nongqing’s house.
She had heard his family was very well-off… After that, an idea had faintly taken root in her heart.
She put down the file in her hand, crossed her arms, and looked at Xu Nongqing. In a joking tone, she said, “That child’s name is Shu He, right? He looks so noble. Is he twenty yet? Mom has a particularly nice girl she’d like to introduce to him…”
