Chapter 62: The Clingy Childhood Sweetheart 5 p1
Shu He listened intently, but the next words never came.
He tilted his head in confusion. In the darkness, he couldn’t see Jiang Qi’s face, only feeling that the other was staring at him. “What just now?”
“I just…”
Jiang Qi’s voice was hoarse and strained as the words circled in his throat. As he repeated them, there was a hint of self-abandonment. He gritted his teeth and said that he had just dreamt of him.
Shu He, who had thought something was wrong, was now completely bewildered.
“What’s wrong with dreaming of me?” He didn’t quite understand. “Did you dream that I was bullying you?”
“No.”
The sound of rustling blankets came from the bed. Then, Shu He saw Jiang Qi walk over to him. At fourteen, Jiang Qi was already a surprising 1.78 meters tall. In another two years, he would probably be as tall as a door.
In contrast, Shu He’s height only reached his chin. Every time they stood face to face, he would have to puff out his cheeks and take two steps back to avoid the trouble of looking up.
It was dark now, and he couldn’t see the person clearly anyway, so Shu He didn’t retreat. He listened to Jiang Qi’s inexplicably heavy breathing and continued to ask, “If not that, then what was it?”
What’s so strange about dreaming of him?
He had even dreamt before that Jiang Qi had succeeded in his career and become a Dragon King.
The kind of Dragon King who, with a single command, would have a host of dragon subordinates flying out from behind him.
Jiang Qi lowered his eyes and said in a muffled voice, “I don’t know how to say it.”
“Anyway, the dream was very strange.”
So strange that he couldn’t even remember what had happened. Despite this, the feedback and shock the dream had brought were even more startling than a nightmare.
His heart was still pounding.
Shu He thought Jiang Qi was being strange.
He lifted his face, his bright almond eyes saying that he was going to the bathroom, and that he should tell him when he had figured it out.
Jiang Qi didn’t say a word and stood there, making way for Shu He. A little while later, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. He turned his head and saw Shu He come out, walk past him, and get into bed.
The faint, fragrant wind he had stirred up as he walked still lingered in the air, very familiar. Jiang Qi smelled it every day.
Even just now, in that absurd dream, he had smelled it.
Jiang Qi lowered his eyes, forcing himself to calm down.
Clenching his fingers, he turned and quietly went to the wardrobe to get a clean pair of underwear. Then he pushed open the bathroom door, leaned against it, and closed his eyes, silently chanting “Amitabha” a few times before he could finally gather his thoughts and clean up the chaotic and embarrassing mess.
As he was washing his underwear, Jiang Qi’s mind was unprecedentedly blank.
He tried to cover it up by turning the faucet on very low, for fear that the sound of the water would wake someone up and he would be discovered. After washing and hanging up his underwear, Jiang Qi took a deep breath and returned to the dormitory, his ears red.
Like a thief.
Shu He had already fallen asleep again, his eyes closed, unable to receive Jiang Qi’s complex gaze.
After a while, Jiang Qi turned over. His mind was in such a mess that he couldn’t sleep at all. He just lay there until dawn. There were some bloodshot veins in his eyes. He sat on the bed, holding his phone, and searched for the meaning of dreams, word by word.
【What does it mean to dream of your best friend?】
【What does it mean to dream of bullying your best friend?】
【What does it mean to have that after dreaming of your best friend?】
The answers were varied.
Jiang Qi read every one of them, and the more he read, the more uncertain he became. How could someone say that this represented a bloody disaster? It was early in the morning, so unlucky.
“I’m ready.” After washing up and changing his clothes, Shu He put on his small schoolbag and said to Jiang Qi, “Let’s go to class.”
Jiang Qi held his phone, his unfocused gaze wandering over Shu He’s beautiful face.
He had just washed his face, and the hair on his forehead was wet, his eyes very bright, so bright that he remembered some other things, and he looked away in a bit of a panic, and squeezed out a very deep and muffled “Mm” from his throat.
Shu He didn’t notice anything unusual and went to eat breakfast with him with his schoolbag on his back.
On the weekend, Chen Jingchen had specially come from out of town to play with Shu He. He really wanted to play with Shu He alone. After all, every time Jiang Qi was around, it was never fun, and they always argued. The two of them had had a bad relationship since they were little, and it was all held together by Shu He as the hub.
Unfortunately, it was impossible. Wherever Shu He was, Jiang Qi was sure to be. Chen Jingchen sighed and did his homework with Shu He. When Shu He was packing his schoolbag, Chen Jingchen saw several exquisitely sealed love letters inside.
Chen Jingchen thought of asking, but he hadn’t even finished his homework before he started playing a video game, and he had completely forgotten about it. It wasn’t until he was on the bus home in the afternoon that Chen Jingchen saw a young couple pass by the window, and as if he had suddenly remembered, he hurriedly asked Shu He in the small group if he was in a relationship.
When Shu He saw the message, he was struggling to catch up on his homework. He lay on the table, listlessly poking the screen with his fingertip, and sent one word.
Little Lotus: 【No】
Chen Jingchen: 【I saw the love letters in your schoolbag this afternoon. There were seven or eight of them, right? You don’t like any of them?】
Jiang Qi: 【?】
Little Lotus obediently poked: 【I’m still young. I’m not dating.】
Jiang Qi: 【No, how can you ask that? @Chen Jingchen】
Chen Jingchen: 【? Ask what?】
Jiang Qi: 【How can you ask Little He about his love letters?】
Chen Jingchen felt it was inexplicable. He stared at this nonsensical sentence, his mind thinking. According to his usual habits, Jiang Qi was most likely questioning him for being nosy.
Chen Jingchen: 【Why can’t I ask? Can only you ask?】
Jiang Qi: 【I didn’t ask. Why should I ask?】
Chen Jingchen: 【That’s right. Why should you ask? Why shouldn’t I ask?】
Jiang Qi: 【What right do you have to ask? (death smile)】
Chen Jingchen: 【? I’m his friend. Can’t I ask?】
Jiang Qi: 【Can a friend ask?】
“Damn it! What’s wrong with this Jiang Qi!” Chen Jingchen said angrily.
Little Lotus: 【Don’t you two fight.】
Jiang Qi: 【I’m not fighting.】
Jiang Qi: 【Baby, can I see your love letters?】
Shu He propped his cheek with his hand and turned back to look at Jiang Qi.
The two of them were in the same dormitory, but they were still communicating in the group. It was so strange. Shu He took out the love letters and handed them to Jiang Qi.
Jiang Qi had not dared to turn back all along. This sentence had been sent with his eyes closed and his heart pounding. He hadn’t expected Shu He to give him the love letters right away. He opened his eyes, and in front of him were seven or eight love letters.
He didn’t know which one had been sprayed with perfume, but it was so pungent. Jiang Qi gritted his teeth and took them, both sour and disgusted. These people were not studying properly at this age, and they had to come and disturb the baby’s studies.
Their hearts were punishable.
He thought angrily and opened the first love letter.
These love letters had already been opened.
The sealed part was loose, which proved that Shu He had read all of them, and maybe he had even stayed up late to read them seriously.
Jiang Qi was a little sour again.
Although he didn’t know where this strange emotion came from, it didn’t stop the boy from sneering and starting to criticize the wording of the love letters.
“This one was copied from the internet, right? Is there a single word that you wrote yourself? There’s no sincerity at all.”
“This one looks so… that. Wasn’t it embarrassing to write?”
“This one only has two lines? It’s not sincere at all. Baby, you must not be deceived. Studying is the most important thing at this age.”
“This one…”
Seeing a certain one, Jiang Qi frowned and couldn’t find any fault with it. He could only say over and over that there were too many words, and that he didn’t know how to protect Little He’s eyes at all, and that it was not sincere.
After he finished reading, he turned his head and found that Shu He was staring at him, his round, beautiful eyes clear and alluring, his expression serious and unhappy.
What was wrong? Jiang Qi’s heart skipped a beat. He held the love letters and asked, “…What’s wrong, baby?”
“Don’t talk like that.”
Shu He puffed out his cheeks and said, “These are all their feelings. It’s not easy to write them. If I had known you would be like this, I wouldn’t have shown them to you.”
He pouted and went to grab the love letters. Jiang Qi turned his hand, and his peripheral vision caught the words written on the back of each love letter, which were exactly the same as Little He’s handwriting.
He realized that this was Shu He’s reply to these people, so he ground his teeth sourly and said sorry to him. After Shu He reluctantly said he forgave him, Jiang Qi calmed down and lowered his head, and looked at the boy’s sincere reply on the back of the love letter.
All of them were rejections.
Despite this, Shu He had still written a corresponding rejection based on the content of the love letter, very seriously, with round handwriting, which showed that the owner was very meticulous.
From beginning to end, Jiang Qi’s heart was in a turmoil of sourness. He gritted his teeth and returned the love letters to Shu He.
Shu He took them, and as he was putting them back in his schoolbag, he suddenly heard Jiang Qi ask, “Do you reply to every one?”
“Yes.”
Shu He was too embarrassed to refuse in person, so he could only write the reply on the love letter and return it along with the love letter.
Jiang Qi said “Oh” in a daze, not knowing what he was thinking.
