He looked at Yun Huizhou, opened his mouth, and said, “Yun Huizhou, I drank wine.”
Yun Huizhou: “…I can smell it.”
Lian Li nodded, continuing to stare at Yun Huizhou’s face. “I think I’m drunk.”
Yun Huizhou was instantly amused by these words. He leaned over to scoop the man up and said, “People who are truly drunk usually say they aren’t.”
Lian Li pushed at him even as his hands gripped Yun Huizhou’s clothes with a death grip. “I’m definitely drunk. My head is dizzy, like… I’ve spun around dozens of times.”
As he spoke, Lian Li shook his head, mimicking the way characters in cartoons shake their heads in circles after being knocked dizzy.
“See? The world is spinning.”
Yun Huizhou reached out to steady his head and said, “Stop shaking, and it’ll stop spinning.”
“It’s still spinning.” Lian Li grabbed his hand, yet his mouth said, “You’re not allowed to touch me.”
Hearing this, the slight smile on Yun Huizhou’s face froze. He pulled his hand back and yanked his clothes out of Lian Li’s grasp.
“Fine,” he said. “Then don’t cling to me either.”
Lian Li looked at his empty hands and began to wobble again. To keep himself from falling, he thought for a second and then lunged onto Yun Huizhou.
“No, if I let go of you, I’ll fall.”
Yun Huizhou felt extremely frustrated and a bit irritable.
But he couldn’t bring himself to actually throw the man off. So, he reached out to support Lian Li to keep him from falling, but he didn’t let him fully embrace him.
“You said it yourself—I’m not allowed to touch you.”
“Right,” Lian Li replied with total conviction.
Yun Huizhou was so infuriated by that “right” that he nearly had a heart attack. I’m not allowed to touch you, yet you’re clawing at me and won’t let go. What exactly do you want?
He stood there, unable to decide whether to support him or just shake him off and leave. He simply didn’t know what to do with this person.
Just as he was thinking he should just pick the man up, toss him onto the bed, and go to the room next door, Lian Li spoke again.
“You!” Lian Li suddenly let go of him and pointed at his nose. “You like women! You’re not allowed to touch me!”
Yun Huizhou froze on the spot, feeling a chill run through his entire body. He didn’t even realize that Lian Li had let go of him.
He watched as Lian Li pointed at him and wobbled backward until he reached the doorway.
“Ah! Who tripped me!”
His heel caught on the threshold, and Lian Li fell straight back. Seeing that he was about to fall flat on his back, Yun Huizhou couldn’t stay still. He blurred forward in a flash and caught him.
But right now, he didn’t want to speak to Lian Li at all. He just wanted to dump him on the bed and go outside to cool off. However, the man started acting up again.
Lian Li suddenly hugged his waist, looked up at him, and said with a face full of emotion, “Thank you, Yun Huizhou. If it weren’t for you, I would have fallen and hit the back of my head. You’re such a good person.”
“I’m telling you, you saved my life. If you hit the back of your head and aren’t careful, you can die.”
Yun Huizhou was at the end of his tether. He hoisted the man onto his shoulder and said, “If you say one more nonsense word, I’ll let you experience what a real dead person is like.”
Lian Li’s legs kicked incessantly. “Ah! You’re touching me again. You’re not allowed.”
Yun Huizhou suppressed his temper. “If I didn’t touch you, you would have just fallen and died from hitting your head.”
“Oh, right.” Reminded of this, Lian Li repeated, “Wow, you’re so nice.”
Yun Huizhou closed his eyes, telling himself not to lower himself to a drunkard’s level, but his heart still felt stifled and miserable.
He threw Lian Li onto the bed and pinned him down. Lian Li frowned and looked up at the hand pressed against his chest. “Don’t press on me.”
Yun Huizhou didn’t let go. He said, “You. Sleep!”
“Sleep.” Lian Li nodded and immediately lay down properly. His legs were stretched out straight, and his hands were placed over his stomach with fingers interlaced. “I’m lying down. Help me cover up with the blanket. Don’t let me freeze. I get sick easily, and I die easily.”
Yun Huizhou’s hand was still on Lian Li’s chest. Hearing Lian Li say he died easily, he suddenly remembered what the West Island Lord had said before—that Lian Li’s life force had once been completely severed, and he was only hanging on now because of his Internal Cultivation Method.
His heart, which had grown cold and hard, softened once more.
He said softly, “Mm. Go to sleep first. We’ll talk after you’ve sobered up.”
“Mm.” Lian Li closed his eyes, looking like he was truly prepared to sleep, yet his mouth kept moving. “I told you, I’m drunk. I should have been lying in bed asleep long ago. My eyes are closed, my posture is set. Hurry up and cover me with the blanket.”
Yun Huizhou reached out, pulled the blanket over Lian Li, and then lowered the light-blocking bed curtains.
The curtains cut off his view. He stood by the bed for a while, then sat down on the spot, staring blankly ahead.
At this moment, he felt a rare sense of confusion. And some anger.
He was angry at Lian Li, and angry at himself.
He felt he needed to talk to Lian Li, but he didn’t know how to start.
His mind was so troubled that he didn’t dare circulate his energy to heal his injuries, fearing he might suffer a Qi deviation.
Hearing the long, steady breaths of Lian Li after he fell asleep, Yun Huizhou felt even worse.
Here he was, driven to distraction by this kid’s drunken antics, while the kid himself was sleeping soundly in bed.
Yun Huizhou felt that if he stayed any longer, he might actually want to shake the boy awake and give him a beating. So, he stood up, took his blade, and went out to the courtyard.
Since he couldn’t calm his mind to cultivate, he would practice his blade techniques instead.
After spending the afternoon in the courtyard, Yun Huizhou estimated it was about time for Lian Li to wake up. He sheathed his blade and was about to enter the house when he suddenly saw the West Island Lord fly out from the adjacent courtyard at extreme speed.
Noticing Yun Huizhou watching him, the West Island Lord looked back and said, “I’m going out for two days. When I return, we’ll go back to Drunken Dream Island.”
Yun Huizhou didn’t ask what he was going to do; he simply nodded and returned to the room.
Sure enough, the bed curtains had been drawn back. Lian Li was sitting on the bed in a daze, his head throbbing in waves. He was pressing his temples to relieve the pain when he heard someone enter.
He looked up and saw it was Yun Huizhou. In an instant, his memories of being drunk came flooding back. Especially when he saw that Yun Huizhou only gave him a glance and had no intention of acknowledging him, Lian Li suddenly had a desperate urge to flee from this world.
It was so damn embarrassing. What on earth had he done?
Throwing a drunken tantrum at Yun Huizhou? One moment he was pulling the man and wouldn’t let him leave, the next he wouldn’t let the man touch him.
He had even pointed at the man’s nose and said, “You like women.”
If Yun Huizhou didn’t like women, what else could he like? If Yun Huizhou were even slightly prone to overthinking, he might associate that with the possibility that Lian Li liked him.
What would happen then? They wouldn’t even be able to remain ordinary Senior and Junior Brothers.
Fortunately, Yun Huizhou generally didn’t like to overthink things and had a good temper. Despite Lian Li’s antics, he had still looked after him in the end and hadn’t just left him to sleep on the floor.
