“Xiaoxiao one, me one!”
“Langlang one, me one!”
“Brother one, me one!”
On the fine Persian Wool Blanket, four short little glutinous rice dumplings sat cross-legged, discussing how to divide the cookies. Though they called it a discussion, the initiative lay entirely with the chestnut-colored curly-haired one.
“You’re dividing it wrong like this! We get few, you get many!” Shen Yuxiao, as the little young master who had been carefully raised in the palm of his family’s hand, had never suffered such grievance. In his eyes, all the cookies should have been his! If he wished it, he could even have his doodles printed on the cookie packaging.
“How do I get more?”
The chestnut-colored little curly head suddenly stood up. Though he was the youngest here, his presence was in no way inferior.
The mild, soft light gradually diffused with the passage of time, and a golden beam fell squarely on the little curly head.
The little curly head’s cheeks carried baby fat, and his head of natural chestnut wool curls was lively and playful. Unlike the other children, his clothes were pure black, standing out strikingly amid the colorful outfits.
“You don’t believe me? I’ll count them for you!”
The four-year-old Zhou Chiyu stuffed a cookie into his mouth in one bite, his puffed cheeks glowing with a faint peach color: “Each of you gets one cookie! As for me…”
“4, 3, 2, 1…”
Zhou Chiyu counted on his chubby little fingers, frowning righteously: “I also get one!”
Shen Yuxiao anxiously scratched his head, feeling something was off no matter how he looked at it. His intuition told him Zhou Chiyu’s counting was problematic, but he couldn’t pinpoint why. This seemed to exceed the scope of the math counting knowledge he had learned in kindergarten.
“Hmph, my math is great.”
Zhou Chiyu smugly lifted his chubby little face, his milky white skin so fine it was flawless, like the finest silk meticulously woven.
And so, under everyone’s watchful eyes, Zhou Chiyu stuffed all the remaining little cookies into his own little pocket and continued distributing the medals that Grandpa had brought back for him from his business trip abroad last week.
The servants standing nearby exchanged glances, their gazes falling on the stern-faced adult on the sofa.
Just the night before, a shocking plane crash had occurred in S City.
On board sat the chairman of the renowned pharmaceutical company ZN, Zhou Nanzheng, along with his son and daughter-in-law. Once the news spread, it quickly drew attention from all sectors of society. Murder? Accident? Speculations abounded.
Yet the most discussed was Chairman Zhou’s estate distribution plan.
Reports stated that Chairman Zhou was sixty this year, and his only son had also perished in the crash. Fortunately, his grandson Zhou Chiyu, who was originally supposed to travel to Australia with them, had stayed behind due to illness and became the sole survivor of the Zhou Family.
“Those relatives of the Zhou Family are cold-blooded and selfish, only thinking of how to suck Nan Zheng’s blood. He knew their true faces and handed all assets to the Foundation to manage in advance. This Foundation will transfer to Chiyu’s name after he turns ten.”
As Zhou Lao’s only close friend, Gu Lao’s eyes filled with incredulous grief upon receiving his friend’s dying entrustment. His friend’s lawyer had told him that in the last will Zhou Lao had prepared in advance, it stated that if the Zhou Family ever met with misfortune, Zhou Chiyu would be raised by Gu Lao until eighteen. Before Zhou Chiyu came of age, the Foundation would also be overseen by Gu Lao.
“Dad, this is a Foundation worth trillions after all.”
Gu Lao’s daughter-in-law Bai Wenran frowned slightly: “No matter what our Gu Family does, we’ll face criticism.”
“Am I supposed to abandon this child?” Gu Lao looked toward the little dumpling in mourning clothes on the carpet and drew a soft breath: “He entrusted Little Fish to me out of trust. No matter what, I can’t abandon Little Fish. This child is all alone; if I don’t raise him, what kind of comrade would I be!”
Bai Wenran exchanged a glance with her husband Gu Cheng, about to speak when Gu Cheng suddenly gripped her wrist.
“Dad was saved from the battlefield by Little Fish’s grandpa back then.”
Bai Wenran was stunned speechless. Gu Cheng gently patted her back: “It’s fine. Our Little Yuan doesn’t like talking much. I see Little Fish is lively and active; perhaps they can become good friends.”
Mentioning her own son, Bai Wenran’s eyes gradually reddened: “That… would be perfect.”
“I won’t be your soldier!”
The childish argument from not far away drew the adults’ attention.
Shen Yuxiao had long disliked Zhou Chiyu. Though he couldn’t outtalk him in the cookie incident, he was absolutely unwilling to willingly serve under this guy.
He had come to his auntie’s house to play; he was a guest of the Zhou Family. Why should he be bossed around by the little fatty in front of him?
Who was this little fatty from? He was so annoying!
He didn’t care about these cookies!
So what if they were made by an Australian chef!
If he wanted, he could have Oreo’s chefs make them for him!
“Whoever is the strongest is the commander.”
Zhou Chiyu put his hands on his hips, his chubby little legs slightly spread: “In here, of course I’m the strongest.”
“Tch.” Shen Yuxiao disdainfully raised his brow: “You’re the strongest? No, you’re the fattest!”
“Hahaha.” The other children laughed along.
Among them, Zhou Chiyu was the shortest but the heaviest.
From a young age, he could eat and play vigorously, with a very sturdy body; he could even do three somersaults in one go.
Faced with the mockery, Zhou Chiyu wasn’t annoyed at all. His two black pearl-like almond eyes narrowed slightly: “I can prove I’m the strongest! Otherwise, let’s have a contest?”
“I’m not competing with you.” Shen Yuxiao was a full head taller than Zhou Chiyu and proudly lifted his head: “Let’s go, we’re not playing with him.”
Gu Lao had been watching their side closely. It was the weekend, and all the children had brought their kids back to visit him. The Zhou Family matter had caused a huge stir in S City, so everyone took the opportunity for a family meeting.
