Chapter 79 Part 1

In the quiet corridor, a sudden sound of footsteps echoed.

Zhou Chiyu stiffly looked toward the shadowy figure approaching from the opposite side, a flash of panic crossing his face.

“Young Master Zhou, Young Master Gu.”

Gu Cheng’s assistant emerged from the shadows and nodded slightly. “I just received a call from the counselor saying you were at the hospital and that family should come. President Gu hasn’t landed yet, and Chairman Gu is in a meeting, so he sent me to check on your situation first.”

Zhou Chiyu quietly gripped Gu Yuan’s sleeve and hid his face.

His whole body tensed up now; he was certain the other man had just witnessed their intimate moment.

Gu Yuan let out a soft “mm” and explained the full situation to Liu Tezhu. He then folded his arm and gently patted the back of Zhou Chiyu’s hand, signaling him not to be afraid.

Liu Tezhu appeared somewhat anxious. “I’ll report this to President Gu and Madam right away!”

The Hepatitis B Virus was such a dangerous infectious disease. He glanced hesitantly at Zhou Chiyu, who was peeking out from behind Gu Yuan, and said sternly, “The hospital is far too irresponsible!”

“Let’s wait for the results,” Gu Yuan said, a hint of contemplation in his eyes. “Uncle Liu, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”

Liu Tezhu seemed to understand and nodded, following Gu Yuan to the backyard. “The thing you just saw—I hope you can help keep it confidential.”

Liu Tezhu made a troubled expression. “Young Master, I—”

“I’m not trying to hide it from my parents; I just need a few more months. I’ll tell them myself,” Gu Yuan said, lowering his gaze.

As Gu Cheng’s assistant, Liu Tezhu naturally had a duty to report everything accurately, but this was Gu Family private business—the fewer people who knew, the better. To protect himself, he chose silence.

“Alright, don’t worry.”

When Gu Yuan returned, Zhou Chiyu wore an uneasy expression. “Bro.”

“It’s fine; he’ll keep it secret for us.” Gu Yuan sat down and pulled him into his arms, his palm pressing against the back of Zhou Chiyu’s neck where he had shrunk up like a little quail. He gently kneaded it. “Little Fish.”

Zhou Chiyu looked up. “Huh?”

Gu Yuan lightly patted his butt. “What you did earlier was too dangerous.”

Zhou Chiyu knew his impulsive action had been too reckless, but he had felt so awful at the time.

“Bro, if you really get sick, I’ll take care of you for the rest of my life.”

Gu Yuan gazed at Zhou Chiyu’s solemn expression and suddenly burst out laughing.

He asked, “Are you taking responsibility for me?”

Zhou Chiyu nodded earnestly. “Yes.”

“You won’t mind?” Gu Yuan’s warm lips brushed the top of Zhou Chiyu’s head. He had only meant to tease him, but Zhou Chiyu lifted his arms and wrapped them around his waist. “I won’t mind.”

Through his mask, Gu Yuan leaned down and gently rubbed his warm nose against Zhou Chiyu’s cowlick. “That’s good.”

“My boyfriend is so good.”

“Hmph.” Zhou Chiyu mumbled sulkily, “Of course I am.”

“My boyfriend is great too.”

No one in the world would love him like Gu Yuan did.

Gu Yuan chuckled softly and rested his forehead against Zhou Chiyu’s cheek, rubbing it slowly.

Half an hour later, the hospital’s diagnosis results came out. Zhou Chiyu clutched the report tightly, frowning nervously. “We still need to observe?”

“Mm, no infection so far, but we need a follow-up check next week.”

A bit of relief washed over Zhou Chiyu. “It should be fine.”

By the time they got home, Gu Cheng and Bai Wenran’s plane had landed. With her pregnancy now advanced, Bai Wenran had returned to the country for a month’s stay before heading to the USA to give birth.

Upon hearing Gu Yuan had been in an accident, Bai Wenran grew very worried. When she saw him, she inspected him from head to toe. “How could you be so careless, child? There are doctors to handle mental patients—what did you rush forward for?”

Zhou Chiyu cautiously gauged Bai Wenran’s expression, afraid she would think Gu Yuan had gotten hurt because of him.

“Little Yuan was just considering the bigger picture.” Gu Cheng stepped forward to soothe his wife. “As long as the tests are clear, that’s what matters.”

Bai Wenran still felt lingering fear and turned specifically to the evasive Zhou Chiyu. “Little Fish, how are you holding up?”

“Auntie, I’m fine.” Zhou Chiyu added in a tiny voice, “Brother protected me.”

“Good, as long as you’re alright.” Gu Cheng smiled at Zhou Chiyu and draped an arm around his shoulders with a sigh. “Little Fish seems to have grown taller again.”

Hugged by Gu Cheng, Zhou Chiyu clung to Gu Yuan’s arm just like when he was little. “Grandpa says I eat and drink well every day with no worries, so I just grow taller without gaining any meat.”

Gu Cheng chuckled. “True, Little Fat Fish was cuter.”

That night, the family rarely gathered together, and dinner stretched late.

Before bed, Gu Lao held Zhou Chiyu and Gu Yuan back and sternly lectured them, ordering them to stop participating in any medical volunteer services.

“Grandpa, I insisted on going; Little Fish was just following me.”

Gu Yuan, who stood in front of Zhou Chiyu, took two solid whacks from Gu Lao’s cane. Zhou Chiyu winced in heartache.

“I knew it was your idea.”

Boss Gu scowled. “No more taking your little brother to dangerous places.”

Gu Yuan smiled lightly. “Got it.”

Before returning to their room, Zhou Chiyu insisted on checking Gu Yuan’s injury. Old Man might be advanced in age, but his strength was formidable—the cane had landed solidly, and Zhou Chiyu had even heard the muffled thud against bone.

“No need to check.”

Gu Yuan caught Zhou Chiyu’s wandering hand. “It’s on the butt.”

“Really?” A faint pink tinged Zhou Chiyu’s earlobes as he muttered, “Then I’m relieved; the butt has thick meat there.”

Gu Yuan’s lips curved up, and he pinched Zhou Chiyu’s cheek. “I think the meat here’s thick too.”

“Hate you.” Considering how Gu Yuan had taken the blame for him, Zhou Chiyu didn’t swat his hand away. He just lifted his eyes to glare at Gu Yuan. “If it really hurts, call me.”

“What would you do?” Gu Yuan asked curiously.

“Apply medicine for you, duh.” Zhou Chiyu drawled. “If someone else does it, you might get shy.”

At four years old, Zhou Chiyu carried a hundred billion inheritance and was entrusted by his grandfather to his grandfather's sworn friend for care, becoming an orphan. Little Chiyu was an optimist who quickly bonded with the younger generation of the Gu Family and became the Little Overlord of the household. But he feared only one person—Gu Yuan. Gu Yuan was Gu Lao's own grandson who had suffered from a severe illness since childhood, took medication long-term, and relied almost entirely on a wheelchair for mobility. The servants warned him that he could provoke anyone, but he must never provoke Gu Yuan. Gazing at the beautiful and aloof Brother, Little Chiyu held a lollipop in his mouth and refused to believe it. Gu Yuan disliked sunlight, so he pushed the wheelchair to bring Gu Yuan to the courtyard and told Gu Yuan the story of seven princesses and a Little Dwarf. Gu Yuan did not like to eat, so he threatened Gu Yuan and sneaked a kitten into Gu Yuan's bed at night. Gu Yuan did not like to talk, so he secretly signed Gu Yuan up for a fairy tale play, where he himself acted as the Little Prince and made Gu Yuan act as the princess. The other children all warned him to stay away from Gu Yuan, but he refused and stayed by Gu Yuan's side all day, becoming his loyal little follower. At Gu Lao's birthday banquet, he was mocked by other children for having no parents. Before the slow-witted him could react, that child was suddenly knocked over by a basketball, clutching his head and crying. Gu Yuan stood up from the wheelchair, his gaze gloomy, pale lips parting: "Try bullying him again." Later, Zhou Chiyu became Gu Yuan's best Good Friend in the world. The good times did not last. At ten years old, Gu Yuan's condition became critical, and he was sent to the USA for treatment. Zhou Chiyu cried until he became a tearful mess, secretly making wishes every night in Gu Yuan's bed, hoping the other would live to a ripe old age. Eight years passed in a flash. Zhou Chiyu was admitted to Qing University and became the school's acknowledged great beauty with countless pursuers. One day, a friend mentioned that a devastatingly handsome exchange student from the USA had arrived in the Math Department and dragged him to see the Handsome Guy. In the corridor, he was stopped by the Architecture Department's Campus Heartthrob holding a gift, intending to confess. The surrounding classmates hooted and took photos, the atmosphere thick with romance. At that moment, the legendary USA exchange student walked through the crowd with a stern face, publicly took Zhou Chiyu's hand, and glanced at the Campus Heartthrob: "Sorry, he's not interested in you." The people in the corridor were dumbfounded, erupting into gossipy chatter. That evening, the tall and imposing Gu Yuan held Zhou Chiyu's hand, his expression cherishing it immensely: "When did I ever lie? When you were little, you clamored every day to crawl into my bed—have you forgotten?"
