Hi Master, Little Mermaid Will Support You! 28

Chapter 28

The doctor chased after MuMu as it ran out of the examination room: “I just turned around to get a snack, how did it run off… Professor, Professor Yin?”

She saw Professor Yin’s miserable state, gasped, and quickly fetched a splint to immobilize his wrist:

“What happened?”

“I…”

“Professor Yin was careless and injured his wrist when he fell,” Wen Ming interrupted, cutting off whatever Professor Yin was about to say. “My mermaid startled you, I apologize. I’ll cover all medical expenses.”

Despite his words, his tone lacked any remorse, and he didn’t even glance at Professor Yin’s injury.

As if provoking him: Keep pretending? You’re good at it, aren’t you?

MuMu pouted and whimpered softly:

“Woo.” Can Master afford to pay? I didn’t expect him to fall so badly…

The doctor’s heart softened at the little mermaid’s whimper, and she spoke up on its behalf:

“Professor Yin, it definitely didn’t mean to do it. It’s my fault for not keeping a close watch on it and letting it run out and startle you.”

Professor Yin’s eye twitched. He wanted to retort, “Do you really think I could fall like this just from being startled?” but he held back.

The commotion in the corridor had already alerted the entire medical department, and doors to other examination rooms opened.

If he lost his temper now, Professor Yin’s carefully crafted image would be ruined.

“I just lost my footing, it’s nothing,” he gritted his teeth.

The doctors who came out to check on the situation all exclaimed:

“The Professor is so gentle to mermaids and their owners, always so composed.”

“Huh? Professor Yin’s veins seem to be bulging.”

“He’s injured, he must be in pain.”

Professor Yin’s smile was as warm as spring sunshine as he thanked everyone.

MuMu stared, dumbfounded, and pointed at him, “awooing” at Wen Ming: He wasn’t like this in the lab!

“Shh.” Wen Ming picked it up and placed it back in the treatment tank.

He patted MuMu soothingly: “This tank doesn’t look big, but it’s quite spacious inside.”

The little mermaid didn’t catch the double meaning and wagged its tail in agreement:

“Awoo!” That’s right, super spacious!

Professor Yin’s perfect smile cracked.

When the corridor quieted down, he carefully smoothed the wrinkles on his clothes with his uninjured hand:

“Let me be frank, if a mermaid is caught in a mental seascape collapse, it’s very likely to die. Fifty-Five is still young, just barely an adult.”

He took a step closer to Wen Ming: “I believe you, someone constantly facing the risk of a mental seascape collapse, wouldn’t want to endanger a young mermaid’s life, right?”

“Hmm, hmm…” MuMu slapped the water in protest.

Professor Yin sighed worriedly: “Causing a lactose intolerance reaction in a mermaid suggests you’re not very experienced in raising them. You can terminate the adoption and send it back to me.”

“You’re overthinking it.”

Wen Ming held the restless little mermaid: “Even if I encounter problems raising a mermaid, I can always go to the livestreaming platform and ask the masked streamer for translation help.”

MuMu’s grumbling stopped.

“Translate this mermaid’s needs, and its past.” Wen Ming paused meaningfully. “Then we’ll know if it was abused and how it was rescued by such a kindhearted person.”

MuMu tugged at his sleeve weakly: “Awoo!” That’s too difficult!

Professor Yin, as if silenced, just smiled stiffly, speechless.

“Please take good care of this mermaid.”

He nodded to the doctor and turned to leave.

Professor Yin didn’t have concrete proof that MuMu was a Jiao Ren yet. He needed to bring it back to the lab for further research.

But Wen Ming was clearly not someone to be trifled with.

Threats and inducements had all been deflected, and even his only weakness—his damaged mental seascape—was unfathomable.

“I can’t rush this…”

Professor Yin muttered to himself, calling his subordinate:

“Have you found the masked streamer’s location?”

His subordinate replied with a headache: “The signal is scrambled, I can’t trace his real IP address. He might be in a military zone, a high-security residential area, or even on a non-human inhabited planet…”

“Send him a private message, invite him to collaborate with the Mermaid Center, we can negotiate the price up to this much.”

The subordinate saw the amount he gestured and took a deep breath: “Isn’t that… too much?”

“Someone who understands mermaid language absolutely cannot fall into someone else’s hands.”

Professor Yin looked around, making sure no one was listening, and a ruthless look flashed across his face:

“Hurry, if he translates for any mermaids from the lab, the Mermaid Center’s secrets will be exposed!”

“Yes!”

MuMu was a mermaid who learned from its mistakes.

After this illness, it deeply understood:

“Awoo!” You get what you pay for!

It sniffed at the pills: “Awoo, awoo!” This smells a hundred times worse than milk!

Did the Mermaid Center give him fake medicine just because they waived the fees…?

“Why aren’t you eating?” Wen Ming asked curiously.

MuMu pushed the pills away, staring longingly at the mermaid bowl in Wen Ming’s hand.

After the intolerance reaction, its digestive system was weakened, and it could only eat easily digestible food for a while, no hard fish food or raw fish.

Wen Ming blended the fish meat into a paste, steamed it, added some shrimp, and a healthy, nutritious, and delicious mermaid meal was ready.

MuMu was mesmerized by the aroma: “Slurp!” Feed me!

It showed no intention of taking the medicine.

Wen Ming picked up the pill, placed it in the mermaid bowl with the fish paste, and mixed it thoroughly: “Eat.”

MuMu devoured the contents of the bowl, licking it clean in minutes.

Wen Ming took the bowl and saw—

Only a lone pill remained.

MuMu avoided his gaze: “Woo…” It’s too bitter, I really can’t eat it.

“You heard the doctor,” Wen Ming said sternly. “You have to take the medicine to soothe your stomach.”

MuMu pointed at the empty bowl with its chin:

“Awoo?” Does my stomach look like it needs soothing?

Wen Ming patted its head helplessly and stuffed the pill inside a dried fish:

“Eat them together, you won’t taste the medicine.”

MuMu compromised and took the dried fish, munching on it.

“Good.” Wen Ming left the mermaid room.

Listening to his receding footsteps, MuMu blinked and pulled the dried fish out of its mouth…

It extracted the pill, dried its tail, and stealthily crawled out of the mermaid pool.

There was a succulent plant in a corner of the mermaid room. MuMu had taken a bite when it first arrived, leaving a teeth mark on one of the leaves.

Today, the poor succulent became a “victim” again.

MuMu dug a small hole in the soil, buried the pill, and admired its handiwork.

“Hee.” Perfectly hidden!

Suddenly, Wen Ming’s footsteps, which had disappeared for a while, reappeared nearby…

“!”

MuMu hurriedly jumped towards the mermaid pool, but in its haste, it misjudged the distance.

“Awoo!”

It bumped against the edge of the pool before falling into the water, letting out a soft cry of pain.

When Wen Ming returned to the mermaid room, it pretended nothing had happened, listlessly chewing on a dried fish.

Wen Ming was holding a tube of liquid, similar to nutrient solution, and placed it by the pool.

His eyes flickered, noticing something, and he grabbed MuMu’s hand.

There was a thin layer of dirt on its pale fingertips.

MuMu swallowed hard, its tail swishing nervously in the water.

“Woo.”

I didn’t mean to disobey you, it was just too bitter… I’m sorry, I’ll eat it now!

Wen Ming’s brow furrowed, and he reached out towards it.

His features were sharp and imposing, and his frown made him look intimidating.

MuMu’s eyelashes fluttered like small fans, and for a moment, the face before it transformed into another.

‘Number 55, if you don’t cooperate with the tests, you should be prepared for punishment, right?’

“Gasp!” The mermaid closed its eyes tightly, instinctively flinching away from his hand…

Its lips trembled as it slowly opened its eyes. Wen Ming’s hand was hovering in mid-air, neither approaching nor retracting.

MuMu followed his hand upwards, confirming Wen Ming’s face.

…It’s Master.

MuMu quickly grabbed his hand, pressed it against its cheek, and smiled ingratiatingly.

Wen Ming’s expression remained unchanged as he slowly pulled his hand away:

“Who were you looking at?”

MuMu stammered helplessly, grabbing his hand again and rubbing it against its head.

Wen Ming pulled his hand away more firmly this time: “Was it me you saw in your eyes just now?”

MuMu had never heard him use this tone before.

“…Woo?” What’s wrong?

MuMu was so anxious that it almost spoke in human language, forcefully suppressing the urge to transform.

Anxiety and confusion intertwined, and its instincts drove it to circle the pool, crying out.

Wen Ming watched silently for a while, then took another pill from the bottle and placed it in the tube of liquid.

The pill dissolved quickly, and MuMu twitched its nose, noticing that the unpleasant smell had disappeared…

It was a special solution that turned solid medicine into a tasteless liquid, specifically for children who refused to take pills.

MuMu suddenly understood—Wen Ming had known all along that it didn’t want to take the medicine.

MuMu pointed at the succulent plant, confessing: “Awoo, awoo.” I actually buried the pill in the soil, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have wasted it.

The claw that pointed at the “crime scene” was still dirty, and Wen Ming gently washed it before letting it hold the medicine.

MuMu didn’t care about the taste anymore and drank it all in one gulp.

When it opened its eyes, Wen Ming was gone.

“Awoo?” Is he that angry?

MuMu craned its neck and howled towards the door:

“Awoo—woo—”

Master, come back, I’m still your good mermaid, I won’t complain about the medicine being bitter anymore!

Its howls were filled with the despair of a broken family.

Wen Ming returned with a strange expression: “What’s wrong?”

MuMu sniffled sadly: “.” I thought you were leaving.

Wen Ming spread a blanket by the pool and lifted the little mermaid out.

MuMu, still reeling from the fear of almost driving its master away, clung to him, not letting go even when it shivered from the sudden coldness against its skin.

It shifted, trying to avoid the cold.

“Don’t move.”

At Wen Ming’s words, MuMu froze and looked down. He was applying an ice pack to its waist.

It had bumped its waist when jumping back into the pool earlier, and a bruise had already formed.

The ice pack soothed the pain, a cool sensation spreading through its skin.

The medicine seemed to have a calming effect, and MuMu, its tense nerves relaxed, felt drowsy.

Surrounded by the familiar energy particles, it couldn’t help but berate itself: How could I mistake Master for my former master?

They’re completely different!

Its former master’s energy was tinged with malicious intent, a sense of control over the weak when suppressing a mermaid;

Master’s energy, however, was strong and pure, like an ancient tree protecting the elves, steady and mysterious.

Wait…

MuMu shook off its drowsiness, its eyes widening.

“Woo?” Why is Master’s energy leaking everywhere?

Several hours earlier.

MuMu had never shown fear, hostility, and wariness towards a single person simultaneously. It shielded Wen Ming, trying to protect him from the mental seascape attack.

Wen Ming looked past the little mermaid at the condescending expression of the man at the doorway.

‘You absolutely cannot use your mental seascape. If it becomes unstable again, there’s no saving you!’

From the corner of his eye, he saw a subtle change in the mermaid’s tail beneath the water.

Wen Ming’s brow twitched, and he pulled the mermaid into his arms.

The floodgates of his long-dormant mental seascape opened, like a sword unsheathed.

【—】

In the mist created by the clash of mental seascapes, Wen Ming, enduring a splitting headache, held MuMu tightly.

The secret you’re so determined to hide from me, you will never reveal to anyone else.

The streamer was a fair-skinned young man with clear eyes and a unique voice: "For just a small gift, you can connect and get simultaneous interpretation, it's very cheap!" The barrage scoffed: [Where did this scammer streamer come from? Such a low-level trick to get gifts, only a fool would try it!] After the trial "fool" appeared, the streamer listened to his family's mermaid screeching and accurately translated: "She says she's afraid of cockroaches, and every time she sees one, she scratches you twice out of frustration. She suggests a thorough pest control treatment for your home." [Holy crap! After I exterminated the bugs in my house, my mermaid really stopped scratching me!] [What!? I'll send a cruise ship, streamer, connect with me first!] [Is he a god? The entire interstellar world is finally saved!] ... Seeing MuMu’s every reaction in this chapter makes me sad 🙁 Just as Wen Ming’s mental seascape needs healing from MuMu, MuMu also needs Wen Ming to help him heal from his past too.
Thanks for the chapter!
