He screenshotted the chat log and sent it out. No reply came from the other side for a long while.
Mu Chenxing: Bro?
Are you that mad?
The other side sent a photo:
A thumb pressed against the waistband of military pants, the ink-blue fitted T-shirt yanked up to reveal clearly defined yet not overly exaggerated abs.
Mu Chenxing: ……?
Pei Yao (voice message): “Didn’t my baby want to see some abs? Help yourself.”
Pei Yao: “Handsome, right? Hot enough? Wanna touch?”
Then another photo arrived.
This one showed him caressing his own abs.
Mu Chenxing: ……
Pei Yao: “Not steamy enough? Hold on.”
A moment later, a 12-second video popped up: Distinct knuckles glided over the chiseled abs twice, then gave them a couple of pats.
Pei Yao: “I tested it for you—the feel is top-notch. Just waiting for you to come touch now.”
Mu Chenxing: ……
Pei Yao: “I’ve sent so much already. Doesn’t my baby owe me some reciprocity?”
Pei Yao: “Baby, you’ve been training for three or four years—your abs must be gorgeous~~”
Pei Yao: “Lemme see those abs.”
Mu Chenxing: “……”
He blanked his expression and closed the window.
The next second, he reopened it, saved all the photos and video, closed it again, and pretended nothing happened.
Unfortunately, Pei Yao was the shameless type who had no clue what “quit while ahead” or “subtlety” meant.
No reply came, so he directly called with video.
Mu Chenxing: “……”
They’d just met last month, spent a few sticky nights together, even shared a meal. Compared to the three-plus years before that, things were already great. Skipping this video call wouldn’t hurt—
—
—
—Screw it. The guy I picked—I won’t ditch him.
He picked up the video call.
Pei Yao’s face filled the screen immediately.
A bit tanner than last time they’d met, forehead and neck slick with sweat, hair damp.
Mu Chenxing frowned right away. “You’re training? I told you I was just kidding. You’re not some idle slacker—why fixate on this crap?”
Pei Yao huffed. “Wasn’t it you who wanted to see? And you did.” The camera panned down. “Come on, cleanse your eyes with my abs!”
His bare upper body jumped into view.
Mu Chenxing: “……”
He rubbed his forehead. “If you’re that bored, go train!”
Pei Yao’s voice carried a laugh. “Just got back from training, no rush—baby, show me yours.” He dropped his voice on the last bit, fingers trailing suggestively down his abdomen like he was about to go lower.
Mu Chenxing: “…………”
“Go look at your own!”
He hung up decisively.
Pei Yao’s voice message followed instantly: “Baby’s shy?”
Pei Yao: “If you’re too shy for video, record me a few minutes’ worth. Photos work too if that’s easier~~”
Mu Chenxing was pissed.
His face even flushed red.
He ditched typing, switched to voice, and unloaded: “If you’re that damn bored, go train! A full Admiral acting like a shameless flirt—I’m embarrassed for you—anyway, shut it!”
Pei Yao’s voice message came with a low chuckle: “Baby’s shy, huh~ Fine, no more sends. I’ll see for myself in a few days.”
Mu Chenxing: ……
See my ass.
He shut off the holo-screen.
But Pei Yao video-called again.
Mu Chenxing, fuming, hung up.
Pei Yao sent a helpless voice message: “Baby, pick up—just once. No teasing, serious talk.”
Mu Chenxing finally answered.
It really was serious.
“No isolation zones on the long-haul troop transports. Nearly ten days cooped up with a ship full of Alphas isn’t safe for you all, so I rerouted you to the logistics and medical flight. Go with them to Tianhong Star first, then hop the supply ship over.”
The military email had noted it, so Mu Chenxing already knew.
This guy just wouldn’t put on a shirt, holo-screen zoomed way out with his abs on full display—Mu Chenxing didn’t dare let his eyes drift down.
But he still had to ask.
“I know we’re on the logistics ship, but why am I leading the team?”
Not just leading their 64 Omegas—he was heading up the entire logistics and medical group.
He’d messaged Pei Yao about it that morning, but the guy’s first reply had been those ten hot Alpha pics. Infuriating.
Pei Yao: “Your 64 took collective First-Class Merit. After signing enlistment, you’re all First-Class Privates now—higher rank. Especially you: University Arena Competition champ, top combat power, and the other 63 same-rank Omegas all listen to you. Perfect pick for team lead.”
Mu Chenxing: “……No officer sailing with us? What about Central Star’s recruitment office?”
“Lin Chuan’s on board to handle pickup—Alpha and Beta ship. Planetary recruitment offices just verify, confirm, and submit lists for districts to pick from. Once you’re in-district, they hands off.”
Mu Chenxing: “Those logistics and medical troops…”
Pei Yao knew what he meant and explained: “Mostly Betas and Omegas this batch. They’re heading to the district hospital and support posts on Changhong Star—not the Border Military District.”
“Who led logistics and medical to Changhong Star before?”
Pei Yao: “Same deal—pick one from inside to lead, a few assistants.”
Mu Chenxing got it. “Alright, what about my assistants?”
Pei Yao grinned at him. “I trust you can find some among your 63 First-Class Privates.”
Mu Chenxing: “……Why do logistics and medical handle their own leads, but frontline units need one?”
Pei Yao: “Frontline doesn’t either. Lin Chuan just coordinates, confirms headcount, sails back. Units pre-pick their mains and assistants.”
Mu Chenxing understood. “Testing leadership from muster?”
“Yeah. If they flop, swap ’em out at district. If they shine, heavy investment later.”
……Got it. Mu Chenxing frowned slightly. “Isn’t that unfair to the rest? Before they even hit the district.”
Pei Yao smirked. “Baby, they didn’t pick you as lead ’cause you’re pretty, right? All those years training wasted?”
Mu Chenxing: “…”
He rubbed his forehead. “Took me a sec to catch on.”
Pei Yao teased: “I get it—baby’s too mesmerized by my abs to think straight.”
He twisted sideways into a pose, shoving his showy abs dead-center in frame.
Mu Chenxing: “……”
Done bickering. “Packing these next couple days. Anything you want from home?”
Barracks had food and board, but personal stuff? Supply ships didn’t run daily.
Pei Yao finally shifted the camera back to his face and smiled. “Just bring my fiancé.”
Mu Chenxing: “…”
Serious for under two minutes.
Can this guy really Admiral a command of 100k+?
He seriously doubted it.
Still, scoring a video chat lifted Mu Chenxing’s mood plenty.
He hung up and switched back to the big group chat. Everyone had already dug up intel on those ten Alphas.
Mu Chenxing was stunned. “You guys are scraping military district files?”
“No need—it’s all on the official site.”
“Lowest’s a Second Lieutenant—prime hot Alphas!!”
“Someone’s pulling strings big time!”
“Xingxing delivers, but ten ain’t enough to go around!”
“Xingxing, probe more! Report back!”
“Whip up 53 more hot Alphas!”
……
Mu Chenxing: “……”
What, wholesale matchmaking market? Another 53 and Pei Yao’d probably send me a solo jerk-off vid.
“Speaking of, isn’t our whole class basically Fourth Military District-bound?”
“Top academies past few years—Fourth District snaps ’em up first.”
“Sigh, that casualty wave years back was brutal.”
“Who’da thought General Wei’d fuck up that bad…”
“Drop it—we don’t know the inside military shit. No snap judgments.”
“Yeah.”
Topic zipped away.
Mu Chenxing was curious too about three years back.
Alliance had six military districts, Admirals each holding one. Every five years, one rotated to Central Star System guard.
Three years ago was Pei Yao’s turn—how they’d met.
Too bad his replacement, General Wei, lasted under a year before the Star Beast Tide hit. Elite troops wiped out, nearly lost the main base too.
Pei Yao got yanked back mid-crisis—no message even, diving into intel and remote command en route…
Pei Yao never detailed it, but Chen Chuheng later said he’d watched battle vids and analysis non-stop during warp jumps, days without sleep, let alone contacting him.
Maybe exaggerated, but 100k+ lives? Pei Yao’s focus was justified.
……Chen Chuheng’s big mouth foreshadowed this, huh.
……
Luo Chen shoved a mountain of stuff at Mu Chenxing. Even flashing the military email’s item list didn’t stop him.
His excuses piled up:
“You’re Omegas! First batch enlisting—no way they’re that strict!”
“Maybe Omegas get a pass. Who knows.”
“Worst case, snack on the way—64 of you, share with the group.”
“Plus mid-transfer—two weeks to Fourth Military District. You’ll polish it off.”
Mu Chenxing: “……”
Eyes puffy from who-knows-how-many secret cries last night, the iron-hearted Luo Chen nagged on. Mu Chenxing’s resolve softened; he took the packed trunk of food. “Papa thinks of everything. Totally spaced on two weeks’ worth of eats.”
Luo Chen beamed. “Eh, all your faves. Pace yourself.”
Then added, “Don’t skimp—share with Tong Xiao and your classmates. Future squadmates.”
“Sure thing. Guess those piggy Omegas lucked out.”
“Pah! Piggy Omegas?!” Luo Chen lightly swatted him. “Quit the nicknames for classmates.”
Mu Chenxing went innocent. “My bad! They’re not pigs—they’re Alliance First Military Academy’s hottest Omegas!”
Luo Chen cracked up.
“Alright, let’s roll. I’ll drive you.”
“Okay.”
They took an intercity flight vehicle. Ninety minutes later, they stood in the square before Alliance First Military Academy’s gates.
Seniors summoned to Fourth Military District clustered with parents—a black sea of people.
Mu Chenxing dragged his luggage, squeezing through with Luo Chen.
“Xing-ge’s here? Check-in’s at the gate guard.”
“Xing-ge, you’re late!”
“Xing-ge, you not on our ship?”
……
Mu Chenxing greeted back nonstop:
“Yep. Thanks!”
“Got held up leaving—just a bit.”
“Yeah, us Omegas on logistics ship.”
……
Until the makeshift check-in line, where he queued up and greetings died.
Luo Chen, tagging along, whistled softly. “You this popular? All these Alphas and Betas know you?”
Mu Chenxing grinned. “Train across colleges all the time—meet lots. Lucky they don’t mind.”
Luo Chen exhaled hugely. “Perfect then. Plenty to look out for you at district.”
An Alpha ahead turned at the noise, grinning. “Uncle, might be Xing-ge looking out for us.”
Luo Chen blanked.
Mu Chenxing slung an arm around him quick. “Right right—nursing major here. Injuries, illnesses? All mine to handle.”
He shot a glare at the chatty Alpha behind Luo Chen’s back; the guy shrank, zipped his lips.
Luo Chen missed it, relaxing more. “True—I fixated on frontline, forgot your specialty.” Then griped, “Your fault—always training, arena comps. Thought I raised an Alpha.”
Mu Chenxing gave a dry laugh.
Joking to ease Luo Chen’s nerves, they reached the front quick.
Officers at temp check-in wielded mini-devices: scan wristband, face, full body—done. No sig needed; he stepped aside to wait for full muster.
Mu Chenxing pulled Luo Chen to the edge, kept chatting.
Crowd was huge—even late, they waited ages.
Midway through, Luo Chen couldn’t hold out any longer. Mu Chenxing pressed him down to sit on the suitcase for a rest, then rummaged through the snack box Luo Chen had prepared and pulled out a tube of drinkable nutrient solution. He chugged one down to replenish his sugar and energy.
Tong Xiao and the others arrived one after another, chatting in the group chat and sharing their locations. Soon, everyone gathered together—even Zhang Yunli followed the pins in the messages to come see them off.
Mu Chenxing watched as Omega after Omega dragged over two suitcases each, and he went numb.
But the most important thing right now was his frail dad. Spotting Zhang Yunli, he let out a huge sigh of relief and quickly entrusted him with taking Luo Chen home later—the school-side house first, so Luo Chen could rest up before heading back to District 67 tomorrow.
Zhang Yunli naturally wouldn’t refuse. He even invited Luo Chen to stick around for a couple of days so they could go shopping together.
Mu Chenxing felt much more at ease.
As 12 o’clock approached, the loudspeakers blared, calling people to board the flight vehicle for the spaceport to catch the spaceship.
Mu Chenxing gave Luo Chen and Zhang Yunli one last hug. Under their teary-eyed gazes, he followed the crowd onto the flight vehicle.
The military large-scale flight vehicle transporting their batch of new recruits could carry several hundred people.
The dozens of Omegas sat together, staring teary-eyed out the window at the receding school, the mood somber.
Mu Chenxing, of course, was having none of it.
He unzipped the suitcase Luo Chen had packed. “Come on, eat some snacks. Grab whatever you want quick.”
The crowd: “…”
“You’re starting already?”
“We haven’t even boarded the spaceship yet!”
Mu Chenxing: “What are you thinking? One suitcase limit per person before the spaceship—eat up, all of you!”
“…Holy shit, isn’t it one suitcase per person at the military district?”
“Oh my god, I thought it was before the military district too!”
“I brought a whole suitcase of snacks too!”
“Five hours to the spaceport, three hours waiting for the spaceship—that means we have to polish off a whole suitcase in eight hours?”
Mu Chenxing was ruthless: “It’s not one suitcase. It’s sixty-four!”
The crowd: “…”
They looked around.
It really was.
