“……You got some issues, huh.”
Even with Qiu Sui’s good temper, he couldn’t help but snap in annoyance.
He stared at the hideous group photo above, thinking it might as well be tossed.
Shen Zhixiao’s fingers trembled cautiously in the air, as if afraid Qiu Sui would throw the photo away, ready to catch it.
Scolded, he just fluttered his lashes in panic, struggling to roll his throat as he pleaded, “I-I just wanted a photo with you…… You said you weren’t interested in coming here before……” But then he’d turned around and come with the other Omegas, even getting couple photos taken……
Shen Zhixiao swallowed dryly, trailing off without saying the rest, his gaze dropping to the photo.
His own head was clipped on kinda ugly; he’d planned to take it back and secretly stash it away to look at.
With the photos like this, what could Qiu Sui even do?
He prodded it with a finger and found Shen had glued his head on extra tight.
Anyway, there were backups of these pics. Qiu Sui irritably flung the six eye-searing photos back into the Alpha’s hands.
Shen Zhixiao fumbled to catch all six photos, eyeing Qiu Sui’s expression before whispering, “I-I’ll buy them off…… Can you give me one chance? I swear I won’t do it again……”
The Alpha’s promises held zero credibility with Qiu Sui. He glanced at that bruised-up face and replied off-topic, “I don’t wanna see you right now.”
Shen Zhixiao’s fingers gripping the photos went white, his face crumbling.
His collar was tugged messily open, making his tall frame look fragile for once. His dry lips trembled as he whispered on the edge of breath, “Xiao Sui…… I……”
But Qiu Sui eyed him like he’d caught him red-handed, gaze full of scrutiny and suspicion. Suddenly, he warned, “What’d you just say?”
Be obedient.
Shen Zhixiao froze, words dying in his throat. He could only gaze at Qiu Sui with those reddened eyes, begging for an answer. But under that cold stare, he slowly pressed his lips together, stiffly turned his rigid legs, and slunk away with his head down.
His tall figure cut against the stream of happy, chattering tourists, shuffling toward the park exit. The fox ears on his hat drooped with his lowered head.
As he walked off, he snuck a reluctant glance back—only to crash into Qiu Sui’s blank face. He whipped his head forward in humiliated haste and kept going.
Only when that orange hat fully vanished from sight did Qiu Sui lower his gaze.
The hand at his side trembled almost imperceptibly before clenching into a fist. He turned to head to the rest area across from the shop to wait for Qiao Keren and the others.
Glancing back, he saw the four Omegas had already emerged, sitting in the rest area with shopping bags, staring straight at him.
Qiao Keren really didn’t wanna spectate his good friend’s drama, nor join his dormmates in doing so—but he’d been the first to spot Qiu Sui and Shen Zhixiao.
No way to cover everyone’s eyes. Outnumbered, he joined in. They were too far to hear anyway, just watching the gestures.
Qiu Sui and Shen Zhixiao’s breakup hadn’t hit the Campus Wall, but enough people had witnessed their fights that word spread like wildfire. Half the drama-lovers knew by now, and Qiao Keren had played dumb in front of his dormmates.
No clue how long they’d been gawking. Qiu Sui awkwardly pinched his fingers as he walked over, casually asking if they’d finished shopping. Inside, he was mentally hacking Shen Zhixiao to bits. Luckily, Qiao Keren’s dormmates weren’t nosy.
The group headed back to school together. Qiu Sui had Qiao Keren take the keychain he’d bought for Qiu Shun.
Qiu Shun’s Pheromone research med major was swamped with classes and drama, especially near finals—homework had him glued to his desk these past couple days.
Qiu Sui backpacked alone to his dorm. Nearing the door, he noticed the conspicuous gift box that’d been by it was gone.
The dorm floor had janitors who often cleared out students’ lazy piles of delivery boxes.
His steps stiffened involuntarily. Maybe Shen Zhixiao took it, he thought.
But Qiu Sui knew that was unlikely—Shen had basically told him to do whatever with it.
He shuffled slowly to the door. There, by the edge, sat a small glass spray bottle. His stuffy breathing eased in a rush.
The green, dainty glass perfume bottle was tucked in the door crack’s corner—the box had just been cleared.
Qiu Sui stared at the lonely little perfume, swiped his keycard to enter, set his bag down while ignoring it, but grabbed it on his way to close the door.
No logo on the clear bottle, just a strip label with a Pheromone code and scent note. Left outside too long, the whole glass was ice-cold, chilling his fingers too.
He cranked the room heater, cradling the little bottle as he examined it.
No telling how much Pheromone Shen Zhixiao had extracted for this tiny thing—barely ten milliliters.
The liquid sloshed lazily in the glass with his movements, bubbles trailing like fish tails.
He stared silently at the bottle, then pressed the metal nozzle once into his palm.
A fine mist bloomed from the sprayer, blanketing his skin. Then came a light tea fragrance—crisp and subtly sweet, laced with faint floral-fruit notes. Like a forest after rain, fresh and invigorating, it sank straight into his senses.
So this is the scent……
His damp palm curled slightly as he zoned out in the refreshing aroma.
Qiu Sui had figured Shen Zhixiao’s Pheromones would be aggressive and bitter, like the guy himself. But they were actually mild and crisp.
Surrounded by the faint scent, he couldn’t help recalling when Shen had undone his Suppression Ring back at the apartment. Did he let this out casually then?
Probably. Too bad I couldn’t smell a thing.
Qiu Sui snapped back. The mist on his palm had dried.
He pressed his lips together, finally stashing the perfume at the back of his cabinet. With that faint scent clinging, he headed to the bathroom for a shower.
Morning class time. Qiu Sui deliberately sniffed himself before heading out.
Heater on all night, then aired the room on wake-up—that tea fragrance had long faded clean.
Grabbing his books, he yanked the door open. Sure enough, Shen Zhixiao was squatting there. Seeing him, the Alpha perked up a bit, head low as he clutched breakfast and murmured, “Xiao Sui, that perfume…… did you take it back?”
Qiu Sui’s heart clenched on reflex, thinking the scent hadn’t aired out.
But he steadied quick—the guy must’ve missed the box and assumed. Face blank, he denied, “Nah, janitor cleared it when I got back yesterday.”
Not entirely a lie—it had been cleaned, just not the perfume.
The Alpha’s brief joy crashed into defeat, face paling. He forced a smile anyway, voice low, “No biggie if it’s gone……” I can make more.
Qiu Sui ignored him, heading for the lounge.
Shen tailed him at a distance like always—not too close, or Qiu Sui got mad.
But after a few steps, Qiu Sui glanced back and crooked a finger at him.
Shen perked from his slump like a puppy summoned by its owner, hurrying up with a shocked “Xiao Sui.”
Qiu Sui said nothing, just stared at the breakfast and held out his hand. Shen thrust it over eagerly, joy bubbling as he opened his mouth for more—then Qiu Sui’s cool voice cut in: “There. Now stay away from me.”
Shen stiffened, his upturned lips souring.
Legs rooted, he watched Qiu Sui widen the gap again. He took an uncontrolled step forward—Qiu Sui clocked it, shooting a warning glare.
Qiu Sui vanished into the lounge. Only then did the frozen Alpha shuffle after, too late.
Not sure if Qiu Sui sped up going down, but by the time Shen caught up, he’d boarded the tail end of the shuttle bus, vanishing into the cold dawn.
At least he took the breakfast. Shen stood in the chill wind, watching it go, but feeling stronger than before.
Qiu Sui’s original plan was to fly to Bincheng with Shen that Wednesday afternoon for New Year’s.
But post-class Wednesday, he just grabbed dinner and a walk with Qiao Keren and Qiu Shun, then dormed early—no midnight countdown, crashed for an early flight next day.
Shen Zhixiao’s New Year’s message and door gift waited till Qiu Sui’s early wake-up.
He just brushed up and dragged his suitcase out at six.
Holidays meant few early risers; Shen clearly hadn’t expected it—no squatter at the door.
Qiu Sui shut the door quick, hauled his bag to the lounge elevator, hit the button—and heard frantic footsteps.
Who sprints the dorm halls at dawn? Drawing complaints.
Qiu Sui frowned inwardly—then jolted as the rushing Alpha burst in.
Fuck.
Eyes on Shen’s messy hair, panicked rush, he barely let the guy speak before gripping his suitcase handle tight and demanding, “You stalking me?”
Shen was dressed decently, save slippers—shook his head embarrassedly: “N-no! I just woke up, couldn’t sleep, staring at your door……”
Dawn chill blasting, Qiu Sui pictured it and shuddered, glaring. “You do this every day? Creepin’ on me?”
Shen dropped his gaze to the suitcase, throat bobbing wordlessly. Long pause before he mumbled, “I just…… couldn’t sleep……”
His dark circles were brutal lately. Qiu Sui looked away from the bruises, not pressing, just frowning low: “Go back to bed. Now.”
The Alpha shuffled two steps closer, froze at the words. Dry lips worked in the cold wind, voice shaky: “Where you goin’…… spending New Year’s with someone else……?”
