Chapter 10: Absolutely Impossible

Gu Shiying endured it until the veins on his forehead throbbed.

This Fu Huan was constantly in heat in his mind, day after day, and now he even dared to carry that mood into his thoughts!

Fu Huan had absolutely no idea that the little secret lurking in his heart had long been discovered by Gu Shiying. He carefully observed the changes in Gu Shiying’s mood.

Lowering his head, he asked Gu Shiying, “Not feeling well?”

“No.” Gu Shiying’s reply was extremely stiff, and he couldn’t help but clench his fists.

He surreptitiously shifted away from Fu Huan and pulled down the rolled-up sleeve of his shirt.

Still, upon reflection, although Fu Huan’s inner thoughts made him want to punch him, they seemed to have produced a bit of an effect. He had just shaken several people’s hands, and their hands might have even been sweaty. Thinking about it more carefully, he felt uncomfortable all over. Maybe he really ought to wash his hands.

“Hmm. We’ll be there soon.” Fu Huan’s voice softened considerably, almost soothing.

He took Gu Shiying’s unnatural reaction as a sign of discomfort, deciding the guy was just being stubborn.

An elevator was a sealed space. What was closer than standing positions was speaking in close proximity.

Whether Fu Huan had used cologne before leaving or it was just the scent of his clothes, compared to the odors of the people nearby, his scent was simply more pleasant.

The middle-aged man next to him had bad breath and wouldn’t stop talking. Gu Shiying had no choice but to tilt his head slightly, just enough to bring his nose near Fu Huan’s shoulder. The ten-centimeter height difference currently had at least this one benefit, and no more!

On the drive back, Fu Huan drove in silence. Yang Shuheng and Guan Yu fell asleep in the back seat. Gu Shiying’s mind was occupied with the issue between Yang Shuheng and his bandmates.

After returning to the dorm, Gu Shiying instinctively rushed to the bathroom to wash his hands. After scrubbing twice with soap, he felt much more refreshed.

It was all Fu Huan’s fault, making him practically develop a cleaning obsession.

They had all gotten back so late, and after listening to music all evening, Yang Shuheng and Guan Yu had managed to nap a bit in the car. The two kept chattering non-stop after returning. Gu Shiying, however, started feeling drowsy after his shower. Listening to their voices, he sprawled out in a starfish shape and fell asleep.

Fu Huan went to the trash can to throw away a tissue box he’d just opened. Passing by Gu Shiying’s bed, he saw one of his legs sticking out past the railing. He casually grabbed his ankle and tucked it back onto the bed.

The other two were also back in their beds. He conveniently turned off the dorm light.

Just as Gu Shiying, who had just sunk into a deep sleep, was jolted awake. Turning over, he realized he had just heard an inner thought!

【Such a small ankle. And his toes are actually pink. Really cute.】

Gu Shiying’s eyes snapped open with a “Huh?”

Why could he still hear Fu Huan’s inner thoughts while sleeping?

He must be going mad. Even in his dreams, he was encountering Fu Huan’s perverted, obscene inner thoughts!

“Such a small ankle, cute toes” his foot. How utterly twisted.

He was a guy, for heaven’s sake!

Fortunately, Gu Shiying was far too exhausted. After grumbling internally for a few moments, he fell asleep again.

Sunday was for college students to sleep in. However, Gu Shiying wasn’t among those who slept in. As long as he got enough sleep, he could wake up early.

He was the only one in the whole dorm who was awake. Even Guan Yu, with his old-cadre-like self-discipline, hadn’t woken up early.

How had the four of them in this dorm suddenly become so familiar? They’d actually gone to a livehouse together just yesterday.

Right, he needed to warn Yang Shuheng about that Brother Stone issue.

But how should he warn him?

He couldn’t just blurt out that a bandmate he’d collaborated with for over a year was actually a petty person harboring ill intentions.

He needed to understand more about this Brother Stone person in their band first.

Nowadays, social media platforms were developing rapidly. Big data would push users the information content they liked to follow most, especially entertainment industry professionals, who were bound to post all sorts of videos.

Gu Shiying decided to go buy breakfast first. He needed to eat before he had the energy to think.

Just then, he saw Fu Huan sit up from his bed, looking drowsy. His half-closed eyes still looked towards Gu Shiying, impossible to ignore.

Fu Huan’s voice was hoarse just after waking. “Going to buy breakfast?”

Gu Shiying had no resistance to this kind of voice. He had intended to be tough towards the guy, but he was defenseless against someone who had just woken up. His heart softened slightly.

“Yeah.”

Fu Huan: “Bring a portion back for me.”

Gu Shiying couldn’t refuse. After all, the guy hadn’t done anything crossing any boundaries towards him.

“Fine.”

Guan Yu also groggily got up to use the bathroom. Hearing their voices, he also asked Gu Shiying to bring breakfast.

Gu Shiying simply said, “I’ll buy for four people then. You’ll eat whatever I buy.”

Neither of them had any objection. As for Yang Shuheng, still sleeping, his opinion could be ignored.

Actually, Gu Shiying usually observed his roommates. They didn’t seem to have any major dietary restrictions and ate pretty much the same things. After all, they all had Chinese stomachs.

Gu Shiying returned with breakfast. Thinking about the several hungry mouths in the dorm waiting to be fed, he’d packed his own portion to bring back as well.

Going out and coming back, he was drenched in sweat. The temperature was getting higher and higher.

Fu Huan finished washing up and was sitting in his chair looking at his phone. Seeing Gu Shiying carrying a large load of breakfast, he took the initiative to come over and take it, distributing it to everyone.

Four breakfasts, all containing exactly the same items. No choices.

It truly fulfilled Gu Shiying’s words: they ate whatever he bought.

Gu Shiying started multitasking while eating.

Now that he intended to warn Yang Shuheng about the problem with his bandmate, he should first investigate what kind of person Brother Stone was. That way, he could find the right remedy.

If only he could monitor the guy’s thoughts anytime, that would be even better.

Chewing on a bun, Gu Shiying opened a certain short-video app and found the band’s main account. It documented their daily lives, new song releases, and the like. There were quite a few videos, and the quality was good. The five young people in the videos were always playfully roughhousing, their personalities distinct.

Under the most popular comments, there were even remarks shipping CPs. The pairings people favored were actually Yang Shuheng and Brother Stone, and also Brother Stone and the vocalist.

In the videos, Brother Stone’s interactions with Yang Shuheng appeared as an older brother doting on a younger one. However, no matter how you looked at it, some of Brother Stone’s actions towards Yang Shuheng in the videos seemed a bit forced.

Maybe he was just biased because he’d already overheard Brother Stone’s malicious intent towards Yang Shuheng.

He followed the band’s account link to Brother Stone’s personal account.

On the band’s account, Brother Stone had a “caring guy” persona. But on his personal account, it was filled with various video selfies, or self-portraits from all sorts of angles, predominantly in dark tones. The comments below were all “Brother is so handsome.”

It was Fu Huan’s turn to clean the dorm this week. After finishing his breakfast, he grabbed the mop from behind the door and casually glanced over at Gu Shiying. That’s when he saw the photo of some ugly guy on his phone.

Fu Huan’s voice sank slightly. “Gu Shiying, move your chair. I’m sweeping the floor.”

“Oh, oh, oh.” Gu Shiying stood up to make room for Fu Huan. His gaze still didn’t leave his phone as he continued scrolling through the comments with one hand.

Brother Stone’s inner self was truly different from the sunny, caring-guy persona he projected. Inside, he was quite dark.

Gu Shiying then found Yang Shuheng’s personal account from the band’s following list, as a roommate, he’d actually never followed any of his roommates’ private accounts.

Clicking in, he found that Yang Shuheng’s videos also mostly documented life within the band, not so much school. And among these many videos, Brother Stone appeared quite frequently. There were also plenty of comments below shipping their CP.

Yang Shuheng finally woke up. Seeing the breakfast Gu Shiying had brought back, he happily rushed towards Gu Shiying to hug him, but was blocked by Fu Huan, who was holding the mop.

Fu Huan: “I’m mopping the floor.”

Yang Shuheng: “Sorry.” He spoke to Gu Shiying across Fu Huan’s barrier, “Ying’er, I’ll transfer you the breakfast money.”

Gu Shiying switched from his short-video app to WeChat. “I sent the amount in the group chat. You can just transfer it to me.”

After last night’s outing, the bond among the four men of Dorm 504 had deepened further.

But that wasn’t what Gu Shiying needed to focus on.

After Fu Huan finished mopping and went to the balcony, Gu Shiying moved his chair over to Yang Shuheng to inquire about his relationship with Brother Stone.

Gu Shiying: “Are you and Brother Stone really good friends?”

Yang Shuheng had rarely mentioned his bandmates to them before. Now he finally had a chance to chat about them and eagerly opened the floodgates.

“Yeah, pretty good. He looks out for me a lot.”

Gu Shiying: “How did you join this band?”

Yang Shuheng: “I first met Brother Si De, that’s our vocalist. He was singing at a local bar back in our hometown. Later, he came here. My major was a perfect fit, and since I knew him, when his original band’s guitarist got signed by a company to debut as an idol, he pulled me into their band.”

Gu Shiying: “So you only started hanging out with Brother Stone and the others after joining the band?”

“Mm.” Yang Shuheng nodded, chewing on a bun. “I came here right after the college entrance exams, probably even before you guys. Brother Stone saw I was new to the area and didn’t know anyone, so he brought me along to hang out and introduced me to new people.”

Gu Shiying: “Then are you closer to the vocalist or to Brother Stone?”

Yang Shuheng: “Equally close to both. Brother Si De and Brother Stone are more like big brothers, very good at looking after people. But Brother Si De focuses more on songwriting. He’s either writing tunes or writing lyrics. He’s really talented.”

Fu Huan had washed the mop clean and came back to mop a second time.

He poked the mop under Gu Shiying’s feet. “Gu Shiying, move over.”

“Oh.” Gu Shiying glanced at him, then wheeled his chair back to his own desk.

With that, the engaging conversation between Yang Shuheng and Gu Shiying was interrupted. Just then, someone messaged Yang Shuheng on WeChat, and he started chatting.

Gu Shiying got the picture now. The vocalist was career-focused; he genuinely wanted the band to develop positively. Brother Stone, on the other hand, had completely mastered the social dynamics, which was why Yang Shuheng emotionally leaned more towards Brother Stone.

If that’s how it was, he couldn’t just bluntly tell Yang Shuheng to be careful of Brother Stone. He needed to think of another way.

He scrolled through his friends list and saw that a classmate had posted a picture of tarot cards on their Moments.

There he had it.

Before noon, Gu Shiying took a trip to the library. When he returned, he had a deck of tarot cards in hand.

He spent the entire afternoon studying online guides, successfully attracting his target, Yang Shuheng.

Yang Shuheng, having gotten closer to him, now used Zhang Zhi’s nickname for him. “Ying’er, do a reading for me.”

Got him, Gu Shiying thought. “Sure, what do you want to know? Career, love, family?”

Yang Shuheng: “Career, of course! A man’s gotta focus on his career!”

Gu Shiying made a show of shuffling the cards twice, then had Yang Shuheng draw.

Yang Shuheng casually drew one. “What card is this?”

Gu Shiying: “The Ace of Pentacles. It represents friendship. Among your close friends, there may be one who will clash with you, acting in a petty manner against you. You need to be a little careful lately.”

Yang Shuheng thought for a moment, then returned the card to Gu Shiying. “Really, truly?” He didn’t believe it at all. “Draw another.”

Gu Shiying’s answer was more or less the same. This was a professionally tailored “pig-butchering scam.” No matter which card he drew, the result would be identical!

Fu Huan had gone out with Liang Qi for a bit. When he came back, he saw Gu Shiying and Yang Shuheng poring over the tarot cards. Yang Shuheng, clearly annoyed by the results, had stopped playing.

Fu Huan lazily leaned against the railing at the foot of Gu Shiying’s bed, watching him. “Do a reading for me too?”

Gu Shiying raised an eyebrow. “Sure, draw a card. What do you want to know?”

Fu Huan stated with conviction, “Love.”

Gu Shiying chuckled inwardly. Just what I was waiting for. You lovesick fool.

He shuffled the cards and spread them all out on the table, letting Fu Huan pick.

As Fu Huan reached to draw a card, his fingertip grazed the back of Gu Shiying’s hand where it rested on the table.

【Can tarot cards tell me if Gu Shiying can turn gay?】

Gu Shiying gritted his teeth inwardly.

Daring to think about making me turn gay! How infuriating.

He, Gu Shiying, would absolutely never turn gay. Absolutely impossible.
