Chapter 39 Part 2
Sui Sui was the name Gu Sui chose for the baby, after Shi Xu rejected his initial choice, Xu Xu, finding the pronunciation strange.
He settled on Sui Sui, derived from his own name, meaning “year after year,” a wish for peace and safety.
Since the little one survived the egg stage, he hoped it would live a long, peaceful life.
Gu Sui’s explanation made Shi Xu realize he was actually acting like a father.
Gu Sui: “Little Black… is watching… It’ll be… fine. If… Little Black… can’t even… watch a baby… Sui Sui… can’t call it… godfather… anymore…”
Shi Xu: “It doesn’t want to be his godfather anyway.”
Gu Sui knew he couldn’t win an argument with Shi Xu, nor did he want to. He didn’t want Shi Xu saying other people’s names, resorting to his usual tactic. “I… just wanted… to pick you up! I… missed you!”
Shi Xu, unmoved by his loving gaze, said indifferently, “We were only apart for less than an hour.”

The walk home took 15 minutes. They strolled along the path, not rushing.

Remembering the earlier chaos, Shi Xu hummed in acknowledgement.
Gu Sui suddenly leaned closer.
Shi Xu stopped, looking up at him. “What?”
Gu Sui: “Do… you… want… eggs?”
Shi Xu, puzzled: “What would I do with eggs?”
Gu Sui grinned. “Wife, let’s have… an egg feast… tonight!”
He pulled Shi Xu back towards the supermarket.
Shi Xu guessed his intentions, not stopping him, not even annoyed by Gu Sui’s easy reading of his thoughts.
They returned to the supermarket, storing their earlier purchases before entering again.
They were lucky. The next batch of discounted eggs would be available in two minutes.
Seeing the crowd in the fresh produce section, Gu Sui looked shocked. “Are… all human… elders… this crazy? Just for… discounted eggs? Seriously?”
Shi Xu: “The word ‘discount’ is very appealing.”
Gu Sui: “…I don’t… understand.”
Shi Xu: “You don’t need to.”
Because even he, as a human, couldn’t understand it.
He glanced at his watch. “One minute. If you don’t get any eggs, you’re sleeping with Little Black tonight.”
This wasn’t a challenge for Gu Sui. He said confidently, “If… I get… eggs… I’ll sleep… with Wife… tonight… hehehe~”
“Deal.”
Gu Sui, surprised by his easy agreement, said excitedly, “You… promised! No… taking it back!”
“But there’s a condition,” Shi Xu smiled. “You can’t use your abilities, and you can’t hurt them.”

He had planned to use his tentacles to grab all the eggs. Now, Shi Xu had foiled his plan.
Shi Xu: “Do you want to give up?”
“No!” Gu Sui’s determination returned. “Even with… one hand tied… I can… still win!”
Three minutes later—
He was pushed out of the crowd for the sixth time, his clothes rumpled, his new white shoes covered in footprints, his height and muscles useless.
He looked at the growing crowd, swallowing nervously. The staff announced, “They’re all gone!” but the crowd didn’t disperse immediately.
The sale was over. He returned to Shi Xu, dejected, unable to meet his gaze. “Wife, I… didn’t… get any…”
Shi Xu’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “I saw.”
Gu Sui glanced at him, leaning against his shoulder, his voice filled with grievance. “They’re… so scary… They… pulled my… clothes… stepped on… my new shoes… Wuwuwu… they’re… so mean…”
Shi Xu patted his head, which only emboldened Gu Sui, who hugged him tighter, whining, “So scary… Need… Wife’s hug… Wife’s kiss…”
Shi Xu let himself be pushed towards an empty aisle, Gu Sui’s lips peppering his neck, still finding time to complain and demand affection.
“So scary… Wife, kiss… me… please? If… you kiss me… I won’t… be scared…”
Shi Xu asked, “Just a kiss?”
Gu Sui glanced at him, seeing his smile, and boldly added, “And… sleep with… Wife… tonight…”
Shi Xu pinched his cheeks, his lips puckered into a small “o.”
His smile didn’t falter, his grip firm. “Anything else?”
Gu Sui mumbled, “Want… Wife…”
“Hmm?” Shi Xu drawled.
“…” Gu Sui quickly corrected himself, “N-No! Nothing else!”
He would ask for that tomorrow.
Shi Xu released his cheeks, which were now red from the pinching. He rubbed his cheeks dramatically, grabbing Shi Xu’s hand and pressing his face against it.
Undeterred by the earlier rejection, he had a new idea.
He couldn’t wait until tomorrow.
“Wife… pinched me… so hard… You have to… take responsibility…”
Shi Xu chuckled, amused by his persistence, his fingers gently caressing Gu Sui’s cheek.
Gu Sui closed his eyes, enjoying the touch, then, greedily, “Other cheek… also hurts… Wife… touch… too… Can’t just… ignore… one side…”
Shi Xu slapped both his cheeks lightly.
Gu Sui seemed strangely pleased, the slaps, which would be considered insulting to others, a reward to him.
No one else could touch Shi Xu like this. Only him.

Leaving the supermarket, Gu Sui was beaming, his thoughts clearly inappropriate.
Shi Xu didn’t bother asking, not wanting to hear his perverted ramblings.
“Wife,” Gu Sui hooked his pinky around Shi Xu’s, his voice clingy, “Next time… there’s… an egg sale… we come… together… again?”

It wasn’t Gu Sui who wanted to try again, but Shi Xu.
This creature truly understood him.

Sui Sui, like any human infant, needed formula and diapers.

Having finished reading the instructions, Shi Xu grabbed a diaper, reaching for the baby, but Gu Sui intercepted him.
Sui Sui, now in Gu Sui’s arms, kicked his legs, protesting loudly.

He didn’t need to treat Sui Sui like a human infant. Gu Sui had told him Sui Sui was half-pollutant, immune to even boiling water.
But he still chose to follow human methods, another way to experience normalcy.
He didn’t let Gu Sui take over the feeding either, supporting the baby with his arm, imitating the instructional video.
Sui Sui cooperated, drinking the entire bottle without fuss.
“All done!” Gu Sui, his eyes almost red with jealousy, immediately grabbed Sui Sui from Shi Xu’s arms, handing him to the little black cat.
He glared at the cat and the baby, ordering, “Little Black, go… play… with your… godson! Go, go!”
The little black cat: “…”
Sui Sui: “…”
Sui Sui, imitating the cat’s movements, crawled back to his little nest, cuddling his “godfather,” babbling his displeasure.
“Eyah, eyah!” When I grow up, I’ll beat him up!

The moment Shi Xu’s arms were free, Gu Sui shamelessly snuggled into them, lying on his arm like a child.
Shi Xu looked at him, his eyes cold. “What, do you want me to feed you too?”
