The golden egg, capable of granting wishes, was her gift to him.
His voice was filled with unshed tears. “I’m a selfish person. Even in the end, I only thought about myself.”
He had said this before.
But this time, there was no self-deprecation, only acceptance.
He smiled faintly. “But it doesn’t matter anymore. She understood my selfishness. She didn’t blame me. She wanted me to be happy.”
Gu Sui kissed his forehead, his voice soft yet firm. “You will be.”
After resting for two days, on a sunny afternoon, Shi Xu took Sui Sui to visit his sister.
He retrieved the pollutants that consumed Shi Lin and Ah Cheng. He couldn’t restore their original bodies, but Gu Sui transformed the pollutants into their likenesses. He buried them together.
It was a simple, private funeral.
After suspecting Shen Qiao, Gu Sui had his fragment protect Sui Sui constantly. At the hotel, Shen Qiao sent pollutants to attack them, creating a distraction to switch the babies.
He didn’t actually switch Sui Sui. Gu Sui had protected him, keeping him safe until the incident was over, Sui Sui sleeping soundly, unaware of what happened.
His memories of his time as an egg were fading. He couldn’t remember Shi Lin’s face, but he remembered her voice, and her promise.
The first name he remembered was Shi Xu.
When Shi Xu took him to her grave, recounting her story, his memories returned. He finally remembered her.
Before meeting Shi Lin, he had encountered many humans, all wanting to consume him and his kind.
He had several near-death experiences, finally captured by a human.
Shi Lin’s touch was the first time he felt warmth from a human.
“Don’t be afraid,” a gentle voice echoed, followed by a comforting warmth.
She was the first human who didn’t want to consume him.
He had snuck into her mind while she slept, captivated by her gentleness and strength.
But he was too weak then, unable to save her.
If she had consumed him, she would have lived, but she chose to protect him instead.
“Sui Sui will protect Xiao Xu. That’s Sui Sui’s promise to Shi Lin!” He touched her photo on the tombstone with his small hand.
“Sui Sui finally knows what Shi Lin looks like. She’s very beautiful.”
Gu Sui had somehow obtained a driver’s license without Shi Xu’s knowledge. He drove them home. Shi Xu was initially worried, but after seeing his surprisingly decent driving skills, he relaxed.

No one could resist a cute, friendly child, not even Lin Quan.
He stammered awkwardly, accepting the offered cake.

Lin Quan looked at Sui Sui, his expression complex.

“Why are you telling me this?” he asked, after the initial shock.
Shouldn’t he be telling Qi Yu?
Shi Xu: “After this is over, you’ll be in charge of the Anomaly Management Bureau. As a law-abiding citizen, I should report this to our future director, shouldn’t I?”
Lin Quan: “…”
He truly hated Shi Xu’s sarcasm, every word a deliberate provocation.
He couldn’t complain, however. He was the one who started it. Shi Xu’s retaliation was justified.
He swallowed his frustration, forcing a smile. “You’re joking. I could never be director.”
“You’re capable of it,” Shi Xu said frankly. “Even Shen Qiao feared your abilities.”
Shen Qiao was getting old, nearing retirement. He had to choose a successor, but his choice wasn’t absolute. He had to consider public opinion. If Lin Quan’s popularity grew, he would have no choice but to appoint him.
That’s why he pressured Lin Quan, afraid of being overshadowed.
After Shen Qiao’s true nature was revealed, Lin Quan was in denial for a long time, refusing to believe it.

“We’re here to discuss Sui Sui. I hope you’ll manage the Anomaly Management Bureau well when you become director.”
His tone wasn’t commanding, but as an ordinary citizen, without any official position, he shouldn’t be speaking to the current captain this way.
Lin Quan, not offended, nodded. “I understand Sui Sui’s importance. He’s humanity’s hope.”
Sui Sui, who was eating cake, looked up, his mouth smeared with frosting, smiling at Lin Quan, his heart-shaped mouth and four tiny teeth on full display.
Lin Quan’s expression softened. “Shi Xu, your sister was truly remarkable. She brought back humanity’s hope.”
Shi Xu’s heart warmed, his usual sarcasm gone. “Yes, she was.”
Leaving the Anomaly Management Bureau, Shi Xu, as expected, saw Gu Sui waiting for him.
Their eyes met, and Gu Sui instantly appeared before him, taking Sui Sui from his arms.
“Wife, I’m here… to pick you up~”
As always, clingy and ever-present.
He held Sui Sui in one arm, his other hand grasping Shi Xu’s, leading him to the car.
Sui Sui was asleep. He placed him in the child seat, securing the seatbelt and closing the door. Shi Xu stood beside him.
He opened the passenger door for Shi Xu, reaching out to help him in, but Shi Xu grabbed his wrist.
It had snowed heavily last night, the ground still covered in a fresh layer of snow.
Gu Sui brushed a snowflake from Shi Xu’s hair. Shi Xu suddenly stood on his tiptoes, kissing him.
Gu Sui froze, a snowflake landing on his eyelid, melting instantly, the water droplet clinging to his lashes, illuminated by the light in his eyes.
His sister brought back hope, and he had found his future.
Shi Xu wrapped his arms around Gu Sui’s neck, his voice soft and seductive. “Do you like it?”
Gu Sui murmured, “I do.”
“Want more?”
“Yes!!!”
His command echoed softly, “Kiss me.”
