Chapter 41: Soft-hearted
Fine dust danced lightly in the beams of sunlight, casting a golden, transparent film on the bedroom floor.
Countless bubbles from the bathroom floor rushed out, and under the sunlight, they all reflected a brilliant, crystal-clear light.
When Fei Han followed Fei Luo to Nuonuo’s bedroom, he was almost blinded by the colorful bubbles.
And in the middle of the foam, a small figure was peeking out with his little head, his eyes filled with a pool of tears, looking at them with pleading eyes.
“Brother, hwug!”
Seeing Fei Han striding over, Nuonuo quickly stretched out his little hands, asking his brother to hold him.
Fei Han saw the floor full of foam in the bathroom, and his dark, ink-like eyes inevitably showed a hint of coldness. He frowned slightly and did not reach out to pick up Nuonuo.
Besides his previous experience, Fei Han himself did not like children as a species. They were too noisy, and if you weren’t careful for a moment, they could turn the house upside down.
Just like now, this bathroom full of foam made Fei Han’s expression even darker.
“What’s going on?”
Fei Han’s thin lips were slightly pursed, his voice clear and cold, enough to make a person shiver even in this hot weather.
Nuonuo also knew he had made a mistake. He sniffled, his moist, clear eyes blinking again and again, and he spoke in a small, slightly sobbing voice. “I… I didn’t do it on pupose.”
A hint of anxiety also appeared in Fei Luo’s eyes. Although his relationship with his eldest brother was just so-so, he still reached out and tugged at his brother’s clothes. “Eldest Brother, Nuonuo is also very scared. Can you get him out first?”
Fei Luo was a man of few words, and his conversations with Fei Han could end in just two sentences. To be able to say such a long sentence for Nuonuo’s sake, he was probably really anxious.
Although Fei Han was displeased with Nuonuo’s mischievous behavior that had caused this mess, he couldn’t just leave the little one trapped inside.
With Fei Han’s height, the foam on the floor only reached his knees. He lowered his head slightly and could easily take in the disastrous scene in the bathroom.
Walking in and bending down, Fei Han picked up Nuonuo, who was holding up his little arms.
Nuonuo’s clothes were soaked through. A small white foam was even stuck to the hair on his forehead, which was now swaying with his sobs.
Perhaps because of the force, the small foam slid down from Nuonuo’s hair, floated gently onto Fei Han’s shoulder, and finally burst with a plop, wetting Fei Han’s clothes.
Fei Han couldn’t help but close his eyes. Although he was wearing clothes, he still felt that the coldness had seeped into his skin. For a mysophobe, he had never experienced anything more uncomfortable than being in an environment full of foam.
Fei Han’s pants below the knee were already covered in foam after just a short while inside. He held back again and again, trying not to throw Nuonuo in his arms directly down and then rush back to his room to take a shower.
Taking a deep breath, Fei Han finally looked down at the little one hugging his neck and asked in a still-cold tone, “Now can you tell me what you were doing in there to make the floor full of foam?”
With this tone, there was no doubt that if Nuonuo had really caused this mess out of mischief, Fei Han would have coldly thrown him out.
Nuonuo lifted his soft little face, his clear, spring-water-like tears covering his pupils, as if they would roll down with a slight blink. “I… I was washing cwoathes. I wubbed and wubbed, and then wots and wots of bubbles came out… I don’t know how it happened.”
Nuonuo, also a little confused, pursed his lips. Seeing his brother’s furrowed brow, he felt he had caused trouble and lowered his little head in embarrassment. “I’m sowwy, brother.”
Apologizing in a small voice, Nuonuo didn’t dare to look up at Fei Han’s expression, his little head almost buried in his chest.
Fei Han was rendered speechless by Nuonuo’s soft, milky apology. It was as if a cotton ball had hit his heart, soft and fluffy, scattering all over his heart.
Closing his eyes, Fei Han finally drove away the soft, itchy feeling from his heart and sighed lightly, not saying any more harsh words. “Don’t do this again next time. It’s very dangerous.”
With the floor full of foam, if Nuonuo hadn’t noticed or had just run out, he would have definitely slipped and fallen, and it would have been a good thing if he had only had to lie in bed for ten days or half a month.
“I won’t do it again.”
Nuonuo, with his lips pursed, was placed on the bedroom floor. He tugged at his clothes and secretly looked up at his brother. This peeking action was so obvious that even Fei Han couldn’t help but sigh lightly.
“Fei Luo, you take Nuonuo to your bedroom and change his clothes first. I’ll clean up here.”
Fei Luo took his little brother’s cool little hand and nodded, his little curls swaying. “I know.”
“Nuonuo, let’s go.”
Nuonuo, being led away by his third brother, couldn’t help but turn his little head to look at his eldest brother at the bedroom door.
After the two little ones left, Auntie Wu, who had been waiting for them to come down for lunch, also came looking. Seeing the mess on the bathroom floor in Nuonuo’s room, she was truly startled. “What’s going on? Where’s Nuonuo? He’s not buried in the foam, is he?”
Auntie Wu walked forward anxiously, not even bothering with Fei Han who was standing to the side, and quickly peeked into the bathroom.
“Nuonuo went to Fei Luo’s room to change clothes.”
Fei Han briefly explained, then reached out to wave away the foam that was occasionally floating in the air, preparing to go in and clean up.
“Eldest Young Master, let me do it. You go and do your thing.”
Auntie Wu had just been relieved when she turned her head and saw Fei Han rolling up his sleeves. She quickly spoke up.
Fei Han didn’t want to deal with it either, but since his father wasn’t here, he had to at least take on the responsibility of an older brother. Since his little brother had made a mistake, he was also somewhat responsible and couldn’t just leave the mess for Auntie Wu to clean up. What’s more, Auntie Wu’s job didn’t include cleaning the house. If they waited for the maids to come and clean up at night, the water in this room would probably start to stink.
“No need. I’ll do it.”
Fei Han shook his head lightly and walked in. He kicked a small basin and bent down to pick it up, preparing to pour out the mixture of laundry detergent and water.
After emptying the basin, most of the foam was gone, and Fei Han could finally see what clothes Nuonuo had been washing.
Auntie Wu was also helping with a mop on the side. Seeing the soaked white lab coat, she asked in confusion, “Isn’t this your clothes, Eldest Young Master?”
Because of Fei Han’s unique entrance yesterday, with the motorcycle and the white lab coat, all the servants, including Auntie Wu, had a deep impression.
Fei Han didn’t expect this either. He froze on the spot, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He held the basin for a long while without moving. It wasn’t until Auntie Wu called his name that he was pulled out of his thoughts.
“Nuonuo really likes you. He even specially helped you wash your clothes.”
Auntie Wu thought of Nuonuo huffing and puffing as he washed clothes here, and she couldn’t help but smile, the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes appearing.
Fei Han felt his throat tighten. He couldn’t say anything and could only respond with a single-syllable “hmm.” He didn’t understand Nuonuo’s purpose in washing the clothes. Perhaps he felt guilty for getting Fei Han’s clothes dirty, or maybe he thought his brother had thrown the clothes to him for him to wash…
But this didn’t stop Fei Han’s cold expression from softening. He even had the thought that he shouldn’t have been so harsh on the little one just now. He should have asked clearly. Not all children were mischievous.
At least his little brother wasn’t.
In fact, he’s a bit silly and simple-minded, Fei Han couldn’t help but think.
Fei Han’s originally frosty brows, shone upon by this little sun named Nuonuo, were almost completely melted.
Seeing Fei Han’s not-so-cold expression, Auntie Wu was slightly relieved.
Meanwhile, Nuonuo, being led away by Fei Luo, wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and walked into his third brother’s room with a red nose.
“Little brother, you can wear my clothes.”
Fei Luo, who had just remembered that he had forgotten to get Nuonuo’s clothes, ran to open his closet and chose a not-so-big one for his little brother to change into.
Most of Fei Luo’s clothes were very plain, with basically no patterns, unlike Nuonuo’s clothes, which were a riot of colors and all sorts of cartoon animals, each with Nuonuo’s strong personal style.
Nuonuo peeked out from the T-shirt, his hair soft and messy like a little bird’s nest. With his dazed expression, Fei Luo, who was watching from the side, couldn’t help but purse his lips and smile.
Seeing his brother smile, Nuonuo also crinkled his eyes and grinned foolishly.
After the two brothers had changed their clothes and before they had even gone downstairs, they heard the phone ring from the living room downstairs.
Fei Luo seemed to remember something. His eyes widened slightly as he looked at the clock hanging in the middle of the living room. It was already twelve-thirty…
“Brother, that thing is winging!”
Nuonuo still didn’t know what a landline was. He just pointed with his little finger for his brother to see.
Fei Luo’s mood was a little complicated. He took his little brother downstairs first.
Because Fei Jing had dragged Fei Luo out of bed last night and talked for half the night, Fei Luo couldn’t hold on during school the next day and fell asleep in class.
When the homeroom teacher was patrolling the class and saw him sleeping, she called Fei Luo into the office after class and asked him in a gentle voice if he had encountered any problems recently.
The homeroom teacher was a very kind and young female teacher. There were thirty students in the class, and she could clearly remember each person’s personality and hobbies. And Fei Luo, in the class, was always the silent and not-so-outgoing one.
But although Fei Luo had a solitary personality, he was a very obedient and good student. He handed in his homework on time and didn’t cause trouble in class. For a second-grader, this was enough to leave a deep impression on all the teachers. Of course, this was also because Fei Luo’s little boy looks were too high.
Before, she had always found Fei Luo’s big eyes a little scary, but recently, Fei Luo had become visibly more lively, and his cuteness had skyrocketed. The homeroom teacher even liked to look at him during her free time to please her eyes.
However, the problems that came with Fei Luo were also not few, such as skipping class last time and sleeping in class this time. The homeroom teacher also felt she needed to make a phone call for a home visit to communicate with the parents in a timely manner and briefly talk about Fei Luo’s recent situation at home.
And so, they had agreed on twelve-thirty at noon, and the homeroom teacher had even carefully reminded Fei Luo not to forget.
But because of what had just happened with his little brother, Fei Luo had really forgotten about the home visit.
“What is a tewefone home visit, ya?”
Nuonuo was led down the stairs by the hand, and even while huffing and puffing, he didn’t forget to look up and ask his brother.
Fei Luo thought for a moment. “It means… talking to my family.”
Nuonuo understood now. “Then is the teacher going to talk to me?”
