Chapter 79: Rules
The afternoon sun was so hot the air seemed to distort. Under the rolling heat waves, the leaves on the trees outside the window curled up slightly, drooping listlessly.
Fei Han gently pushed open the door to Nuonuo’s bedroom. With the sunlight streaming in, he saw Nuonuo lying on the bed, his little white belly exposed, his little feet almost kicking up to the sky.
The thin blanket he used for sleeping had also been kicked to the side. Nuonuo was snoring softly, his little hands clenched into fists, sleeping very sweetly.
Fei Han looked up at the time on the wall, thinking to himself, It’s been less than two minutes, and he’s already asleep? And wasn’t he supposed to be putting the little dog to sleep? How come the little one himself is sleeping so soundly?
Shaking his head lightly, Fei Han walked in. Just as he was about to pick up the thin blanket that had fallen to the side and cover Nuonuo, he saw a white, yarn-ball-like thing struggling to get out from under Nuonuo’s body.
006 had originally wanted to take this opportunity to get away from the two villains, Fei Han and Fei Jing. But who would have thought that as soon as they entered the bedroom, Nuonuo’s little head would become drowsy, and he would crawl onto the bed on all fours, falling asleep the moment he touched the pillow.
This quality of sleep left 006 at a loss for words. The little dog’s head shook helplessly. Just as it was about to find a hidden place to hide, in the next second—
Nuonuo rolled over and pressed 006 under his stomach!
006’s materialized body was very small to begin with. Now, being buried under a soft belly, it let out a miserable “awoo,” almost suffocating on the spot.
Fortunately, he was not a real little dog and didn’t need to breathe, so he barely escaped.
Stretching his paws with all his might, 006 dug and dug, his little body twisting and turning. Finally, after much hardship, he managed to get his head out from under Nuonuo’s stomach.
The little black beady eyes once again saw this bright world. Before 006 could feel the freedom of being unrestrained, in the next second, he met the eyes of Fei Han, who had walked over to the bed.
Pretending nothing had happened, 006 twisted its little body again and burrowed back under Nuonuo’s stomach.
He felt that a restrained freedom was actually quite nice.
Fei Han’s hand, which was holding the blanket, paused for a moment. Looking at the fluffy ball, his previously gentle eyes suddenly turned cold.
Roughly grabbing the little dog’s fur, Fei Han mercilessly dragged the dog out.
006’s little paws wanted nothing more than to cling to Nuonuo, but unfortunately, he had so little strength and ultimately couldn’t resist the great villain. His two front legs were stretched straight forward as he was dragged out bit by bit.
“Awoo, woof—”
Letting out a grief-stricken howl, 006 felt that this dog bark would probably be the last sound he would leave in this world.
Fei Han held the dog by the scruff of its neck, his eyes filled with a cold chill. He pinched the little dog’s head, forcing it to look at him, and said coldly, “I know you can understand our words. You’d better not move, or it won’t be as simple as being sent to the experimental table.”
Because Nuonuo was still sleeping next to them, Fei Han’s voice was extremely low. His cold voice, combined with his icy face, was enough to make a dog shiver in fear.
006’s hind legs were tense in the air, its little tail tucked between its hind legs, not daring to even wag. Its entire doggy body was trembling with fear.
In that instant, countless images flashed through the main brain of 006’s system panel.
There was the beginning when he was still a young system, his clumsiness when he first did missions, and then his gradual proficiency, accumulating more and more energy, starting to hope for his own body…
Most of it was the time he spent with Nuonuo. After all, that was a really happy time, 006 thought sadly.
Unfortunately, the life of this system was going to end today.
He had been so cautious for so many years, almost engraving the words of the senior system on his body, afraid of being caught by people in the real world. But in the end, he had still messed up and was about to have his energy drained and become a chip, wuuu—
His emotions were surging. 006 let out a few whimpers and was then directly pinched on the doggy mouth by Fei Han’s two fingers.
“You’re too loud.”
Fei Han glanced at the still-soundly-sleeping Nuonuo, carried the dog, and walked straight out.
006 was held in the air. He didn’t know where Fei Han was taking him. He shrank his neck all the way, his beady eyes darting around.
“Don’t even think about running, or I’ll slice you up,” Fei Han warned coldly.
006 immediately retracted his gaze. He had originally wanted to take the opportunity to run away when Fei Han wasn’t paying attention, but now he had completely given up on that idea.
To materialize, he had used up almost all his energy. Now, he was just like a real little puppy with no strength to even truss a chicken. Faced with a nearly adult human, he had no power to fight back at all.
If I had known this would happen, I should have saved up more energy before coming out.
But having a physical body was a system’s greatest wish. Faced with this temptation, 006 simply couldn’t resist!
From the moment they were created by the main system, they had only had a small, thin wafer to carry all their data and energy. And most importantly, they had to bind to an intelligent race and rely on their consciousness to survive.
Just like a dodder plant, they couldn’t be independent and had no conditions for independence.
So besides constantly raising their level, the systems also silently accumulated energy until they had enough in a certain world to condense into a living being and step on solid ground.
To feel the warmth of the scorching sun, and to let the gentle breeze blow through their fur.
No longer being forced to stay in the host’s consciousness body, and their daily perspective no longer being limited to that small corner of the world. A world they could control themselves was much more real and beautiful than the virtual data world.
Even if he had to do it all over again, 006 would probably still choose to use up all his energy, turn into his favorite little dog, and come out to experience it for himself.
In fact, if it weren’t for the accident of coming to this world, 006, who had done hundreds of missions, would have applied to the headquarters for a vacation, to go to a real world and enjoy it for a while.
But thinking of this, 006 felt he had forgotten something.
Hundreds of times, have I really done so many missions? Why can’t I seem to remember?
006, with his dazed doggy eyes, tilted his head, thinking to himself, Is it because I’ve stored too many things that my memory system is malfunctioning?
How could a low-level system like him have done so many missions? If he had done so many, he should have become a big shot by now!
Shaking his little doggy head, 006 secretly glanced at the indifferent Fei Han and silently began to think about his chances of survival in his hands.
Fei Han could be considered the most unfeeling of the villains. If it were Fei Jing, with his unpredictable personality, there was still a chance he would let you go because the sun was nice today.
But Fei Han was too rational and calm. He would absolutely not act on his mood. Falling into his hands, the probability of escape was almost zero.
Just as he was thinking about this and that, 006 was taken by Fei Han to the laboratory next to the second-floor study.
This laboratory was different from Fei Han’s private laboratory in the suburbs. This was just a temporary place, with few tools and not enough privacy, and even few experimental instruments.
It was only used occasionally, so Fei Han’s requirements were not so high.
The white light shone on the spotless, cold white instruments. The moment 006 went in, he felt his body had already turned cold.
His teeth chattering, 006 kicked his little legs, still wanting to struggle one more time.
Unfortunately, before he could even make a move, he was thrown onto a cold table.
The pads of his paws touched such a cold thing, which made 006 lift that leg with a swoosh. But his three legs couldn’t support his weight, and his body tilted, his little head directly hitting the wall on the side.
“So stupid.”
Fei Han glanced at this dog with cold eyes, his words not at all polite.
006 silently stood up again, let out a “awoo, woof” in protest, but it had no effect at all. On the contrary, the coldness in Fei Han’s eyes deepened.
“Where are you from? Why did you send Nuonuo over?”
Hearing these two questions, 006 knew that Fei Han had probably already guessed that he was a system. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have directly said that he had brought Nuonuo over, but should have asked, “Did you send Nuonuo over?”
006’s main processor was operating frantically. He was thinking, How much do these villains know? They’ve guessed that there are systems in this world, and last time Fei Jing even found that transmigrator, Grandpa Gu. He probably got more information out of him.
Thinking this, 006 felt that he, this system, probably didn’t have as much useful information as these several villains.
But he’s the system!
006, with his little doggy face, sighed for a long while. Looking at Fei Han’s increasingly cold gaze, in the end, he still couldn’t withstand this threat and said, “I can’t say.”
Hearing 006 speak human language, Fei Han was not surprised at all. On the contrary, he crossed his arms and leaned against the side, his eyes lowered in silence for a few seconds before he continued to ask, “You can’t say? Or you don’t dare to say?”
006 was now completely convinced. A one-word difference, but the meaning inside was completely different.
“Can’t say” meant 006 wanted to say but couldn’t, while “don’t dare to say” meant 006 was also controlled by others, and there might be a greater force behind him coercing him, making him not dare to say.
“I can’t.”
006 silently shrank his little head, feeling that when facing this kind of high-IQ big shot, his entire system was being crushed to the point where he couldn’t even lift his head.
Fei Han asked again, “Is it your system’s own rules that restrict you, or is it the rules of this world that restrict you from speaking?”
006’s heart jumped. This person even knows that our system has rules and restrictions?
He even mentioned the world’s rules. 006 felt that in the next second, Fei Han would be like a cultivator who had seen through the laws of heaven and could directly achieve enlightenment on the spot!
