Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

Chapter 70: Little Bun

Fu Yuncai and Zhou Yiqing’s child arrived this spring! It was a lovely daughter, and the Fu and Zhou families doted on this little princess as if she were the apple of their eye. Qi Xiao also often took her to the military camp to play, treating her as his own.

The little princess’s nickname was given by Fu Yunzhi. Her name was “Caiqing,” taken from the names of her parents.

Today, Fu Yuncai and Zhou Yiqing had gone to the temple to offer incense, so little Caiqing was left in the care of Fu Yunzhi and Qi Xiao.

Fu Yunzhi had gone to the Prime Minister’s manor to discuss important matters, so Qi Xiao was walking the five-year-old Caiqing through the streets by himself. The streets were crowded, and the goods at the stalls and shops were dazzling. Caiqing looked left and right, wishing she could buy all the beautiful hairpins, dresses, and jewelry. And every time they passed such a stall, Qi Xiao would ask her if she wanted anything, but she would just pout and shake her head firmly.

What’s wrong with this child…

Although she doesn’t want anything, Qi Xiao thought, I should still buy her something before we go home!

The two of them walked to Jiang Luori and Chen Xinxin’s teahouse, and Caiqing said, “Uncle-in-law, I want to eat a rabbit bun.”

The rabbit bun was actually a shape that Qi Xiao had made himself, to coax his wifey and niece.

“This teahouse doesn’t sell rabbit buns,” Qi Xiao said in a gentle voice. “You have to make them yourself. How about I make some for you next time?”

Caiqing’s little mouth immediately drooped, and her eyes turned red.

“Uh, uh, uh, Caiqing, don’t cry! I’ll make them for you right now! A hundred rabbit buns!” Qi Xiao immediately took her hand and rushed into the teahouse.

He had her wait in a small private room with a book while he went to the kitchen to find Chen Xinxin.

When she saw him, she immediately asked, “Rabbit, deer, or cat?”

The great General Qi the Shura coming to her place time and time again to make little animal shapes, she was used to it.

“Qi Xiao!”

An hour later, Qi Xiao had finally finished kneading the dough. Just as he was about to steam it, Fu Yunzhi burst in.

“Where’s Caiqing?”

“Didn’t Luori tell you? She’s in…” His words died in his throat when he saw Jiang Luori behind him.

“She’s not in the private room,” Jiang Luori said. “We thought she had come here to find you.”

A chill went down Qi Xiao’s spine, and he frowned. “She never came to the kitchen.”

Chen Xinxin suggested that Jiang Luori look for her in the teahouse. Perhaps she was being mischievous and had wandered off somewhere. But Jiang Luori just shook his head, saying that he and Fu Yunzhi had already looked.

“This… where did she go…” Fu Yunzhi panicked.

“I’ll go look for her.”

Qi Xiao didn’t care about the buns anymore and left the teahouse with a grave expression. Fu Yunzhi also followed.

The two of them felt their hearts pounding violently, their hands trembling uncontrollably. If anything happened to Caiqing, how could they face Fu Yuncai and Zhou Yiqing? How could they be at ease?

They split up and searched the streets. But even as dusk fell, they still had no luck.

“Let’s report it to the authorities… If we file a case, I can use the Qi family army to search.” Qi Xiao’s eyes were blank, his heart full of regret.

“Uncle, Uncle-in-law!”

Qi Xiao was stunned. He turned and saw Caiqing standing not far away, waving at them excitedly.

“Caiqing?!”

She lifted her little skirt and ran towards them.

Fu Yunzhi bent down and hugged her tightly, his voice trembling. “Caiqing, where did you go! Do you know how worried we were about you…”

As if presenting a treasure, she took a hairpin from her pocket and handed it to him. “Uncle, this is for you!”

Qi Xiao was both angry and relieved. “Caiqing,” he said sternly, “why didn’t you tell me you were going out to buy a hairpin? I could have gone with you!”

She looked down and, twisting her skirt, said in a small voice, “It’s a birthday present for Uncle. It’s a surprise! If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise. You would definitely tell on me! That’s what happened last year!”

Qi Xiao was speechless.

“Does Caiqing know when my birthday is?” Fu Yunzhi asked with a smile.

“Of course! Mother told me. I remember it very clearly. It’s the third day of the sixth month!”

Qi Xiao looked up at the sky.

Today is the third day of the fifth month… Did the little girl get something wrong…

“Thank you, Caiqing,” Fu Yunzhi smiled, taking the white jade hairpin. “I like this gift very much. But next time, you are absolutely not allowed to leave on your own. You must tell us where you are going, do you understand? If there’s a next time, I’ll tell your mother to punish you.”

Caiqing nodded like a pecking chicken.

“So was Uncle surprised? Are you very happy?”

“Yes, I’m very happy,” he said, picking her up. “I’ll wear it later. Let’s go home now.”

Caiqing smiled with satisfaction and, resting her head on his shoulder, she soon fell asleep.

“Fortunately, you can’t get pregnant,” Qi Xiao said helplessly to him. “Otherwise, what a headache that would be.”

Children are so naughty!

“Although they’re a headache,” Fu Yunzhi said, “we still love them in our hearts. I really like children.”

“Then…” Qi Xiao whispered in his ear, “shall I get you pregnant tonight?”

“…You!” The warm breath on his sensitive earlobe made Fu Yunzhi so angry he kicked him, his face flushed. “Caiqing is still here! What nonsense are you talking about!”

“She’s asleep. You’re just shy.”

Qi Xiao smiled gently. They had been married for several years, but Fu Yunzhi was still so thin-skinned and couldn’t take his teasing.

And Fu Yunzhi gritted his teeth. They had been married for several years, why was he still so improper!

The afterglow of the setting sun cast their bickering shadows together, a picture of a lifetime…
