Chapter 3: The Cannon Fodder Roommate of the Unlimited Flow Male Lead (Part Three)
Dongqing and the man in the black baseball cap’s eyes were instantly glued to Yu Lin’s fingers. Two seconds later, they glanced at 01, who was standing behind Yu Lin like a door god, and then nonchalantly retracted their gazes.
After thinking for two seconds, Dongqing couldn’t help but turn back, drooling, “An S-rank weapon… how can you have two S-rank weapons… I’ll trade you two S-rank items for them…”
Su Huai swept a glance at her, his expression impassive. “Not needed.”
“Oh.”
Dongqing coolly turned her head, propped her feet on the table, and closed her eyes to rest.
In the small, safe space cordoned off by Su Huai, Yu Lin froze for two seconds, looking down at the silver pistol in his hand, then slightly raised his head to look at Su Huai.
Under Su Huai’s calm and reassuring gaze, Yu Lin was taken aback before softly refusing, “01… this is too valuable. I can’t take it.”
In fact, Yu Lin’s cannon fodder character was only supposed to survive for two instances. He wasn’t prepared to do anything too earth-shattering.
And Su Huai, although he was a player, would have a much higher chance of survival in this world with such a weapon.
The Main God game likely had a certain role-playing aspect, because Su Huai was wearing the uniform of a police officer from this world.
Beneath the black uniform, the man was tall with long legs, exuding an oppressive aura. The metal buttons, almost touching the tip of Yu Lin’s nose, gleamed with a cold luster.
Amidst a pleasant, cool, woody scent, Su Huai reached out, took Yu Lin’s slender fingers, and pushed the silver pistol further into his hand, saying, “Hold it tight.”
“…” Yu Lin looked at his own fingers, which were almost completely enveloped, and remained silent for a moment before looking up. “Thank you. I’ll help you too.” If you encounter a problem in this world that you can’t solve.
Su Huai’s response was to gently ruffle Yu Lin’s soft, black hair.
“Tsk.” Dongqing had, at some point, opened her left eye and was squinting over at them, saying sourly, “Your wife?”
“…”
“…”
Yu Lin opened his mouth, wanting to say, “No…”
Dongqing let out another soft “tsk” and said, “01, my warehouse, take your pick. Give him to me?”
The response was a cold glare from Su Huai.
Dongqing: “…”
Dongqing made a zipping-the-lips gesture. She pushed away her mouse and had just stood up when a soothing bell tone suddenly rang out in the previously noisy internet cafe.
The sound was highly penetrating, almost surrounding them in a three-dimensional way. It was pleasant, but also hypnotic, making one want to fall asleep upon hearing it.
Dongqing’s expression changed. She immediately grabbed a boy on her left who had been keeping his head down, trembling and slumped over the table. “Cover your ears!”
Hearing her, the boy snapped his hands to his head, paused, then looked up with trembling eyes, his baby face filled with panic.
Dongqing: “…”
Dongqing raised a hand and smacked him. “Your ears!”
“Sis, be gentle,” the boy said aggrievedly, then silently covered his ears. Following Dongqing’s shout, several people in the crowd who had been quiet quickly stood up and vigilantly covered their ears.
Their eyes were clear; they all looked like players.
There were also two or three stragglers who were farther away, who just stood up in a daze, not knowing what to do.
Following Dongqing’s words, Yu Lin subconsciously raised his hands, but only felt a cool sensation on his ears. He tilted his head slightly and saw Su Huai reaching out, covering his ears perfectly.
The scene before him went from blurry to clear. Yu Lin’s raised hands slowly lowered, resting on his knees.
Su Huai glanced up, sweeping his eyes over the upper floor. Remembering something, he frowned slightly, paused, and said to Yu Lin, “Close your eyes if you don’t want to look.”
His voice was low and calm, carrying a power that could soothe the heart.
Yu Lin noticed that as he spoke, he was actually looking in a certain direction. Following his line of sight, after a short while, the sound of da-da-da came from the stairs, and a man came hopping down.
The man was tall, yet he only had one leg. His hair and clothes were tattered from being burned. As he got closer, his face was exposed to the light, revealing large areas of severe, black burns on his face and body.
As he hopped down, a line of blood dripped behind him. A pungent, burnt smell wafted from afar, making everyone present want to vomit.
Yu Lin lowered his eyes, his face pale, his heart beating uncontrollably fast, almost bursting out of his chest.
He clutched the silver pistol in his palm. He wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but the cold body of the gun seemed to slightly ease his tension.
Su Huai seemed to realize something. He freed one hand, pulled the chair in front of him, and moved it towards a blind spot.
And in all corners of the internet cafe, the players who had been laughing and cursing had, at some point, fallen silent. They had closed their games and were now just staring down, mechanically tapping their keyboards with stiff movements.
Amidst the bizarre scene and the pungent smell, the abrupt sound of vomiting was heard, fleeting. It seemed to come from among the few players who were covering their ears.
The man’s gaze almost immediately shot towards them.
But the next second, he smiled gently again, because the few players who hadn’t covered their ears were looking at him. Their originally pale faces were now staring blankly, their cheeks having turned a rosy, blood-red at some point.
They walked over, mumbled something, and said in a small voice, “Sir, you smell so good.”
“…”
“…”
The few players covering their ears looked over in despair.
And the man who had come downstairs looked at them. His clothes were messy, his expression a bit wretched, and his features were so damaged they were almost unrecognizable, yet he smiled very gently.
He nodded, reached up, and tore a piece of flesh from his stomach to hand to them, smiling slightly. “The guests have such good taste. Please, have some.”
The few people took the pieces of flesh and began to swallow them in large mouthfuls.
Amidst waves of vomiting, he turned his head again and said with a smile, “Oh, you’re here.”
He said, “Everyone, please forgive the poor reception. It’s just that there have been too many guests at the internet cafe recently. There was a small fire a few days ago, and you see, the police, firefighters, construction crew, and even a teacher who came to catch students surfing the net—”
He said, “There are too many people, so the reception is poor. Please bear with us. Now that you’re all here, please help us check for safety hazards within three days.”
After he finished speaking, almost everyone’s mission progress moved forward a bit. It seemed the main mission of this instance was to help this internet cafe check for safety hazards within three days.
It’s just that the identities he mentioned…
Yu Lin’s view was blocked, so he could only judge what was happening by the sounds. He tilted his head to glance at Su Huai in his uniform beside him, then looked down at himself, dressed in an ordinary white t-shirt and jeans.
Then he looked at the computer screen, which showed a gentle face that could be described as elegant and beautiful.
It didn’t quite fit the other professions mentioned by the ghost. It seemed he might be the “teacher who came to catch students surfing the net” that the man had mentioned…
Based on the strange bell tone just now, the delicious illusion the players experienced, and the “food” the owner tore from his own body…
It seemed this instance had many traps. Yu Lin couldn’t help but ponder the potential information behind each identity.
“Oh, right!” After issuing the mission, the man started hopping back upstairs. Halfway up, he suddenly turned his head, his blood-red mouth stretching into a grotesque smile.
He said, “Please note, it is currently the evening bell preparation time. After dining at the front desk, everyone please proceed to the third-floor staff dormitory to rest as soon as possible. The second evening bell will ring in thirty minutes. Please do not go outside during this time. Wait until the morning bell rings before leaving the dormitory!”
He smiled. “The dormitory will not harm you. However, since one guest has already gotten lost outside, we now have a total of twelve guests remaining and six rooms. Please assign yourselves accordingly.”
“…” While contemplating the meaning of the time and the possible protective function of the dormitory, Yu Lin noticed the trap in the numbers.
Sure enough, he raised his head slightly. The players on the scene were already in an uproar. Besides him and Su Huai, Dongqing and the baby-faced boy, there were nine other players left, making a total of thirteen, one more than twelve.
“…”
The moment he realized this, Yu Lin gripped the gun. Despite being shielded by a tall figure, his fingers couldn’t help but turn white, and his eyelashes trembled. He felt his heart stop.
For someone with an extreme fear of ghosts, having a non-human entity mixed in among them was an absolutely unbearable thing.
Yu Lin kept his head down, subconsciously holding his breath, as if he couldn’t face this fact.
So Su Huai looked down and saw the tip of a black-haired head again, and the pale, slender fingers resting on a knee, tightly gripping the silver gun.
Too timid.
Su Huai looked at the person in the chair, remained silent for a moment, then reached out and took the hand of the young man who was clenching his fingers so tightly he was about to break the skin on his palm.
His fingers were long and slender, with very beautiful knuckles. Yu Lin was caught off guard and looked up blankly. “?”
Su Huai said, “I’ll lead you.”
“Mhm,” Yu Lin nodded.
His expression was calm, even a little numb. However, despite being led forward, his feet didn’t move an inch, because he was too scared to lift them.
Su Huai looked at him for a while, then moved his palm up to rest on his arm. His palm was very warm, slightly dispelling the coldness from Yu Lin’s body.
Watching the person under his hand, face tense, trying to slowly shuffle forward with him, Su Huai was silent for a moment, then said, “If you’re scared, you can close your eyes.”
“…” Close my eyes? In an instance?
Yu Lin looked up, bewildered, and met the gaze of the impassive Su Huai beside him, once again suspecting that the male lead’s cold and ruthless persona was severely crumbling.
But the fear debuff on him was truly powerful. If he couldn’t overcome it, it would indeed be very troublesome.
Yu Lin hesitated for a moment. The fingers of the hand being held lifted slightly, trying to grip Su Huai’s large hand back as he gently closed his eyes.
When vision was taken away, the world of darkness should have been even more terrifying. But because of the continuous warmth from his palm, that fear seemed to transform into a special sense of security.
“…”
Yu Lin stood still for over ten seconds. Su Huai had been watching him with his eyes half-lowered the whole time.
Only when Yu Lin had adjusted, his eyelashes trembling and about to open his eyes, did he slightly avert his gaze.
Yu Lin took a deep breath, felt he was mostly okay, and couldn’t help but look up and smile at Su Huai. “I think I’m better now. Thank you.”
“Mhm.” Su Huai looked at him, the fingers of his other hand hanging at his side couldn’t help but curl slightly.
In a special world, survival was the most important thing. Many things from the real world couldn’t be taken into account and became very distant.
For example, no one brought up that they had actually known each other for less than a day. For example, just a day ago, Yu Lin had confessed to Su Huai at the KTV, and Su Huai had rejected him.
“…”
While he was slowly overcoming his physiological fear on this side, on the other side, a group of strangers were still in a state of panic over the numbers, arguing incessantly.
On the first floor of the internet cafe with peeling walls, there were actually no signs of a fire. Yu Lin tilted his head to glance at his hand held together with Su Huai’s, hesitated for a moment, and then looked away slightly.
Su Huai led him all the way to the front desk, lowered his eyes to open the insulated food cabinet, glanced inside, took out a few vegetable rice balls, and tilted his head to ask, “Which one do you want?”
The rice balls he took out had various flavors. Yu Lin looked down and found that he liked them all, so he chose his favorite. “Cheese and corn.”
Su Huai grunted, “Mhm,” took two cheese and corn ones, glanced around the front desk, and led Yu Lin past the front desk machines, heading straight for the glass door.
“Someone ran out just now, and then the NPC said he got lost outside.” The internet cafe’s front desk was very close to the main entrance. As they passed the beverage counter, realizing his destination, Yu Lin told Su Huai.
When he was serious, he seemed to temporarily forget his fear. His eyelashes lifted slightly, his slightly rounded eyes opened, and his soft pupils were completely filled with the person he was looking at, as if this person was being treated with his earnest affection.
Hearing this, Su Huai’s steps paused slightly. He turned his head to look over, his gaze falling on Yu Lin’s hand being obediently held. He saw that although he was giving a reminder, his feet didn’t stop following him to the glass door.
Su Huai grunted, “Mhm,” and stopped at the glass door, looking down.
He had a very sharp and cold appearance, looking very unapproachable.
But at this moment, he didn’t move forward. Instead, he stood at the glass door and explained to Yu Lin, “The registration form at the front desk says this is an underground internet cafe. I came from the second floor, and there are no stairs on the second floor.”
He said, “The stairs should be outside. Shall I take you to find them?”
Yu Lin looked up, blinked gently, and followed him as he pushed the door open. “Okay.”
