Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Little Mermaid Fell for the Jiaoren 47p1

Chapter 47p1: Where Are You?

Deng Xi slept for a long time.

When he woke up, there was a small lamp by his side. The audio-visual room was not completely dark.

He subconsciously looked to his side. The carpet was empty, and the familiar figure was long gone.

Deng Xi woke up at once. He looked around but didn’t see the little mute. It wasn’t until he saw the comm on his wrist that he remembered he could video call him.

Deng Xi opened his comm, but paused when he was about to call out “Little Mute.”

Because the comm’s startup sound had been set to a voice message while he was asleep, “I’m dealing with work. You can contact me when you wake up, or you can go out and play, but you have to tell me.”

The man’s low voice sounded in the dim audio-visual room, and the panic that Deng Xi had felt upon waking up and not seeing anyone was instantly calmed.

The little mute had not broken his promise.

Last night, in the ocean, they had agreed that no matter where the other went, they had to tell each other clearly. The little mute had done it.

The little merman leaned back into the flying chair again.

Deng Xi did not contact the little mute, because he still wanted to stay here for a while. His body was soft from just waking up, and he had no energy.

Deng Xi, relying on his vague memories, tentatively imitated the scene of the human using the comm in the film and opened the star network.

The blue screen in the air instantly changed. On it were densely packed human characters that Deng Xi couldn’t understand, and many colorful pictures.

Deng Xi curiously scrolled down slowly, looking at the few characters he could barely recognize mixed in with the unfamiliar text. He didn’t know what each picture meant.

But he still found it very interesting.

He randomly tapped the blue screen with his fingertips. He didn’t know what he had pressed, but the comm suddenly let out a “ding—” sound, and a lively, mechanical female voice suddenly sounded.

“Hello, I am your comm system. You can call me Smart Brain, or you can call me Xiao Zhi.”

“It has been detected that you seem to need my guidance. Is there anything I can help you with?”

The comms of the interstellar age were all extremely intelligent. Every comm was equipped with a novice guide. The comm would sound a reminder when it captured an unreasonable action during the host’s use.

Generally, humans would turn off this useless function when they were equipped with a new comm.

But this new comm of Deng Xi’s was different. After Si Jisheng had taken it out, he had only simply set up the shortcut communication before handing it to Deng Xi.

Deng Xi was startled by the sudden female voice. After a while, after confirming that the voice was coming from the comm, he said tentatively, “Hello?”

Smart Brain: “Hello.”

It could communicate.

Deng Xi tilted his head curiously. “Are you a human?”

He thought it was like when he was communicating with the little mute, that the voice coming from the comm was someone else communicating with him.

Smart Brain explained, “Xiao Zhi is a robot equipped with the comm system.”

A robot?

Deng Xi knew. The little mute had explained it to him. On the day he had taken him away from the research institute, on the flying ship, the little mute had told him that robots were like the blue whale that had helped him move. Usually, when the little mute was not around, if he needed any help, he could find them.

Deng Xi was slightly relieved and tentatively stated his problem, “I can’t understand the text displayed on it.”

Smart Brain quickly gave a response, “Do you want to turn on the voice service?”

Deng Xi tilted his head. “What is this?”

Smart Brain said, “It is a service specially developed by the comm for young children.”

Deng Xi thought of when he was in class with Bunny.

Something suitable for Bunny should also be suitable for him, right?

Deng Xi nodded his head.

But Smart Brain asked again, “Do you want to turn on the voice service?”

Deng Xi belatedly realized that Smart Brain couldn’t see him nodding, and only then did he agree, “Turn it on.”

The comm successfully switched to voice mode.

Smart Brain: “It has been detected that you are currently browsing the news messages on the star network’s homepage. Which country are you more interested in?”

Deng Xi thought for a moment. “The Empire.”

The place where the little mute was.

The comm automatically switched to the Empire’s domain on the star network. The blue screen first displayed various news messages about the Empire, interspersed with pictures that Deng Xi couldn’t understand.

He slowly scrolled for a long time, looking at each picture carefully, but he never found the person he wanted to see.

Deng Xi asked in a muffled voice, “Where is Little Mute?”

Smart Brain received the information and replied, “Do you want to search for a citizen of the Empire?”

Deng Xi tentatively instructed, “I want to see the Empire’s…” He clumsily pronounced the two words, “Marshal.”

Deng Xi wanted to know about the little mute’s life in the human world. He wanted to know the stories that the human boy had told him at the lecture this morning.

Those stories that, although he couldn’t understand, sounded very sad.

There were indeed very few reports about the Imperial Marshal on the star network. Besides the official written documents, there were very few with pictures.

Deng Xi asked softly, “Can you read them to me?”

Smart Brain said, “Of course.”

The Empire’s messages were arranged in chronological order. The first line was the recent, sensational operation to annihilate the skull star pirate gang.

Smart Brain read out the Empire’s official brief report on this battle. Deng Xi was distracted as he listened and slowly scrolled down.

What came into view was a picture.

And the entire blue screen only had this one picture.

The tone of the picture was gray and dim. The photography technology of the interstellar age was already so advanced, but the lens seemed to be covered in yellow sand, and the picture was blurry.

At a glance, Deng Xi saw all kinds of densely packed insects. These insects were several times larger than him. Their carapaces were indestructible, and their antennae were as sharp as blades. But in the picture, every insect that was taller than a person was lying on the ground.

The ground was covered in corpses.

Only in the distance was a black figure visible.

Beside him was a giant, silver-white mecha. In front of him was a Zerg that was as tall as a small mountain and was already dead. He stood alone on the ground full of corpses, bathed in blood.

Deng Xi recognized who it was at a glance.

The hands hanging by his sides, because of the need for battle, were no longer wearing the mechanical gloves that restrained his sharp claws.

Deng Xi zoomed in and in.

He saw the claws that could easily cut through any sea creature and help him process the raw fish meat cleanly. Every one of them was bent back.

Some were broken, some were completely turned over, and some were intact but covered in sticky blood.

Deng Xi’s breathing hitched slightly.

Smart Brain’s seemingly lively mechanical voice was without any emotion, coldly recounting, “This was a battle of the Zerg invasion on F3 Star. The Marshal single-handedly drove his mecha deep into the Zerg army, tore apart the queen of this Zerg army, and ended this cruel invasion, protecting F3 Planet. The time was Imperial Star Calendar Year 5344.”

Two years ago.

Smart Brain then read out the comments on the star network under this message, arranged in descending order of likes.

“You’ve been scolding the aliens for over a year. Can you shut your mouths now?”

“Aliens seem to be quite useful. As expected of the Marshal, his atavistic object is also the best among the aliens.”

“Why did the Marshal go deep into the Zerg’s rear by himself?”

“If it weren’t for the Marshal losing his reason a year ago, the Empire wouldn’t have lost to the Federation. I admit that he’s strong, but is there anyone in the military who dares to fight alongside an alien now? Don’t be ridiculous.”

“Haven’t you seen the video of the trial conference? The biggest responsible party in that battle wasn’t the Marshal, okay?”

“…”

Trial conference?

Those four words again.

Deng Xi couldn’t hear Smart Brain’s voice. He stared blankly at the picture and reached out his fingertip to very, very lightly touch the hand that was dripping with blood in the picture.

But because it was just a photo on the blue screen, he didn’t feel anything. He passed through the blue screen and only touched the air.

His heart suddenly clenched.

Deng Xi didn’t understand. His little mute had clearly defeated the monsters and protected such a large planet, so why weren’t the humans grateful to him?

Was it because he was an alien?

Was it because aliens got sick?

A sickness that could never be cured.

What kind of sickness was it?

Deng Xi sat quietly in the dim audio-visual room for a long time. He trembled his eyelids and asked in a low voice, “What is a trial conference?”

Smart Brain quickly stopped reading the text to Deng Xi and reacted quickly, “Checking if this comm has the authority to view—”

A long silence.

Deng Xi waited quietly in the dimness, clenching his fists nervously. He didn’t know what he would see, but he had to know.

“You have the authority to view. Switching interfaces—”

Smart Brain didn’t even ask which trial conference of the Empire it was. The most famous, and also the one that could not be mentioned, about the Imperial Marshal, was only one trial conference.

And every comm had to be authenticated with identity information before use. This viewing authority was given to Deng Xi by Si Jisheng.

The interface switched to a video of a trial conference that the Empire had released to the entire galaxy three years ago. The video, which was nearly an hour long, began to play automatically.

[Jiaoren Gong x Merman Shòu]

Deng Xi lives on a planet that is all ocean, with no land.

He is the only merman on the entire planet.

Hugging his big tail and counting the days on his little fingers, the lonely little merman grew up day by day.

One day, he discovered another "merman"!

The other was injured and bleeding nonstop. His face was pale and weak—he looked so, so pitiful!

Deng Xi decided that he had to protect this precious, newfound member of his kind.

However, the other seemed to be a little mute and wouldn't speak to him.

Deng Xi painstakingly nursed the "little mute" back to health, only to discover with a heavy heart that once he was healed, the little mute had disappeared.

The other had left him, and Deng Xi was all alone once more.

A long, long time later, the merman was captured by offworlders who invaded his planet. Star pirates began to live-stream an auction for this merman, the only one of his kind in the entire universe.

Inside a cramped water tank, a chain locked around his neck, the merman huddled pitifully in a small corner.

Factions from all corners of the universe were in a frenzy. Who would win the bid for this new species of celestial beauty? Just as the astronomical deal was about to close—the starship's door was blasted open, and a man with features as sharp and cold as a blade stormed in, brandishing a weapon.

The Imperial Marshal, whose very name struck terror into the hearts of his enemies, apprehended all the star pirates and took the little merman home as a spoil of war.

The man gently and patiently taught the little merman everything about the interstellar age.

The sight of the Marshal's features softening left the entire universe slack-jawed.

·

On the very first day he was brought back, Deng Xi discovered that the Marshal also had a large tail. He thrashed it in delight and threw his arms around him, exclaiming, "Little Mute!"

Deng Xi was overjoyed to have found one of his own kind again, so much so that he failed to notice the man's slightly strange expression.

Si Jisheng held Deng Xi's hand, swimming slowly with him in the pool. Actually, he thought, I'm not one of your kind.

I'm not a merman. I'm a Jiaoren.

The Jiaoren of the East are immensely powerful, every part of their bodies a lethal weapon.

Whereas the mermen of the West are weak and powerless—nothing more than useless beauties.
