Chapter 72: Recite
“So it was him.”
A sudden realization.
Gran looked to his side. “Teacher, who are you talking about?”
They were standing by the window of the flying ship. Under the black cloak, a pair of cloudy eyes were revealed. It was staring at the vast sky outside the flying ship.
When they flew high enough and the clouds were thin enough, the clear blue sky could be confused with the vast sea.
The man in black slowly took off his hood, revealing a face full of wrinkles. The Elder, or rather, the former Elder, said, word by word, “The young man who was worthy of the Marshal ending his conversation with us and specially going out to welcome.”
The overly angry Gran had left in a huff just now and had not, like the former Elder, met Deng Xi, who was sitting in the sofa with his back to them.
The former Elder described the youth’s appearance: long, curly golden hair, and a vibrant face.
A bit of golden hair had indeed appeared on the sofa.
Gran was lost in thought. “The person sitting on the sofa?”
“Yes, it’s him.” The Elder was certain. Although the memory was long ago, such a face, once seen, no one would forget.
The Elder still remembered the scene that the comm had displayed at that time. The other party’s face had almost taken up the entire screen, and the surrounding environment could not be seen. At that time, he was almost certain that the military had been greatly weakened, and the missing Marshal would definitely not be able to make a comeback.
He had not expected that the communication that had been intended to induce the other party to fall into a trap would work. This communication was just the most insignificant of the Council of Elders’ saturation attacks against the military, and it was just the Elder’s whim.
He had never thought that he would have the chance to meet this young man again, but his intuition told him that the method that had not worked back then might have a chance now.
A glint flashed in his cloudy, old eyes. “Gran, go and check his identity.”
Soon, the information was sent to Gran’s comm. He said strangely, “This person’s identity was not deliberately hidden by the military at all.” In less than half an hour, he had finished his search.
“He is not from the Empire. He used to live on a backward, low-level, primitive star and was captured and auctioned by star pirates as an alien. A while ago, the military annihilated the skull star pirate gang and made a big name for themselves. He was the main character of that hundred-billion auction.”
The Elder’s expression was strange. “Continue.”
He and the military had been smiling at each other with daggers in their hands for so many years. The Marshal was not the type to spend a hundred billion on a little beauty.
“After that, he was no different from the other rescued aliens. According to the rules, he went to the research institute. Those aliens were supposed to stay in the research institute until their frenzy period was over, but he was taken away by the Marshal after only a few days.”
The Elder suddenly asked, “What race is he?”
Gran scrolled down. “Jiaoren, wait, no!” He saw something. “He is a merman with an appearance similar to a Jiaoren, a legendary merman species that has long been extinct. It’s very likely that, just like the Marshal, he is the only one in the entire galaxy.”
The Elder pondered for a moment. “Turn around. Let’s go to the research institute.”
Gran was confused. “Teacher, is there a problem with his identity?”
The Elder smiled. His old face, his eyes were narrowed together, hiding the shrewdness inside. “Gran, my mission this time is considered complete. It’s a pity that I’ve never had a way to deal with the arrogant and unreasonable military.”
“You go back first. Explain clearly to your father, the Duke, and think about how to extinguish the Marshal’s anger this time.”
Gran still wanted to ask.
But the Elder waved his hand and slowly got off the flying ship.
The tightly closed experimental door of the research institute was suddenly opened. The director stopped the experiment in his hand. When he saw who it was, he instantly bowed his waist. “Elder.”
The Elder waved his hand and said with a smile, “Don’t call this old fellow that anymore. The Council of Elders is not under my control now.”
The director also exchanged pleasantries. “You’re joking.”
The Elder’s speech was not fast, but it was to the point. “I came this time to ask you, why did the Marshal take that merman away?”
The director did not think much of it. “This news was not deliberately blocked. You can find it if you check.”
The Elder looked at him with a smile, without saying a word.
The director had no choice but to repeat, “His racial talent is a bit special. He can suppress the frenzied aliens and calm them down. The merman’s song seems to have a healing effect on the violent factors in the aliens’ bodies.”
The Elder’s face instantly turned ugly. “Are you sure?”
The director shook his head in regret. “The Marshal’s attitude is very firm. We have not yet conducted any substantial research on his song and constitution.” He thought of something and frowned.
The Elder gave him a look that told him to say it.
The director said, “The Marshal seems to have also mistaken his identity at the beginning.”
“He thought he was the Jiaoren that the research institute had lost back then, that failed experiment.”
In the empty and spacious laboratory, the director’s words produced a slight echo, which kept entering the Elder’s ears. After a moment, his strange expression gradually turned to one of realization.
“So that’s how it is.”
·
Deng Xi was carried onto the flying ship. Before Si Jisheng could sit down, he said eagerly, “Does Little Mute still remember that I picked up your comm in the ocean?!” He paused for a moment. “And I accidentally made a communication!”
At that time, Deng Xi still didn’t know that the black, round iron thing was a comm, and that the connected communication was actually him having a real-time conversation with someone on the other side across the planet.
Si Jisheng’s steps paused for a moment. “Mmm, I remember.”
He naturally knew who the person under the cloak was, and he was not surprised that Deng Xi could recognize him.
Deng Xi nodded. “It’s that bad guy!”
Si Jisheng asked in return, “What’s wrong?”
Regarding that communication, although he had gotten Deng Xi’s explanation in the ocean, after the misunderstanding, he had once thought that that explanation was also a part of the deception.
Now it seemed that it was just an accidental misdial.
Si Jisheng’s fingertips, which were supporting Deng Xi, tightened slightly, then relaxed. He sat down with the little merman in his arms.
Deng Xi was very anxious and told him everything he had remembered. “I didn’t know at that time. I didn’t understand what he was saying.”
What Marshal, what comm, what star coins, he didn’t understand what they were at all. So Deng Xi had thought that that person was strange, stupid, and very ugly.
He hadn’t taken it to heart at all.
But now he remembered it all.
And he finally understood what “buying a life with star coins” meant.
“He wants to hurt you!”
Si Jisheng replied with a faint sound. In this position, he bent down to take off the shoes on Deng Xi’s feet. The little merman was very fond of moving around and could rarely sit still. If he didn’t take them off, the sofa would be dirty in a few minutes.
Deng Xi tilted his head in confusion, not understanding why the little mute’s reaction was so calm. He repeated again, “He asked me if I had seen Little Mute at that time, and he wanted me to hurt Little Mute!”
Si Jisheng squeezed out a low voice from his nasal cavity. “Mmm, do you want to take off your socks?”
“Mmm, take them off.”
Deng Xi didn’t like the feeling of his legs being restrained by socks, just like he didn’t like seaweed wrapping around his fish tail.
After he had answered, he realized that the little mute was still not anxious at all. He reminded him again in a daze, “That’s a big bad guy, a bad guy!”
“Yes, he’s a bad guy.”
The mechanical finger hooked the white sock that was squeezing Deng Xi’s calf. The cold touch drilled into the gap between the sock and his leg. The little merman’s legs were perfectly lined, but his leg meat was simply too soft. The black pad of his finger sank into his white, delicate calf.
Deng Xi was so cold he shrank his leg, but was forcefully held down. “Don’t move for now.” After both white socks had been slowly taken off, they were thrown to the ground and would be collected and washed by the mechanical butler later.
Because of the residual cold touch, his pink toes were all curled up. Deng Xi’s duck-like sitting position changed slightly. He first placed his feet on the sofa, and finally wrapped his legs around the little mute’s back and crossed them.
Deng Xi seemed to be completely unaware that their posture was too intimate. It was a completely subconscious action. His mouth was still belatedly and tentatively asking, “Does Little Mute know?”
Si Jisheng was like being hugged by a little bear. His chest heaved, and he took a deep breath, holding it in his lungs. “Yes.”
The military and the Council of Elders had been fighting for so many years. The two in power had long since studied each other thoroughly. If it weren’t for the fact that they couldn’t find any leverage, the Elder would not have retired peacefully and successfully hidden behind the Council of Elders, preparing to enjoy his old age.
But these were still too complicated for Deng Xi.
Deng Xi pursed his lips, feeling that his anxiety and worry just now seemed to have been unnecessary. He thought for a moment, then said clumsily, “Then… then Little Mute has to be careful of that bad guy. Don’t play with him anymore.”
He had seen it. Today, that bad guy had come out with the little mute.
Si Jisheng “hmm”-ed again.
For some reason, Deng Xi felt that his nasal voice seemed to have become a bit thicker, and his breath seemed to be suppressed in his throat. He almost imitated him and “hmm”-ed.
Strange.
The flying ship suddenly became quiet.
Deng Xi’s ears were a little hot. He lay on the little mute’s shoulder, and his flexibility was so good that his whole body was limp.
He didn’t know what to do or what to say.
It seemed to have suddenly become very strange.
He was a little strange, and the little mute was even stranger.
Deng Xi shook his head and subconsciously opened his comm. The colorful blue screen of the display instantly appeared before his eyes.
It was still that familiar video.
Deng Xi flipped through the comments over and over again, but he didn’t read a single word. After a long while, he frantically found a topic and asked in a small voice, “Why do they all call me baby?”
They had clearly never met and were still strangers.
Humans were so open.
Si Jisheng’s voice was inexplicably low and hoarse. “It’s a term of endearment for you.”
They were too close. Deng Xi was so hot from the voice that he rubbed his ears and “hmm”-ed. He had another question, but he didn’t want to ask the little mute anymore.
“Xiao Zhi, what does this mean?” He tapped the two unfamiliar interstellar words in the comments.
A sweet, mechanical voice sounded from the comm. “This is a term used between a husband and wife, for the husband to call his wife.”
Husband and wife? Wife? Husband?
What was all this?
The mechanical voice seemed to have cooled down his hot ears a little. Deng Xi mustered his courage, straightened up, and presented the comm to the little mute to see. “Little Mute, how do you say this?”
Si Jisheng glanced over. The screen was almost full of the words “wife, wife, prprpr.” He subconsciously frowned, feeling that his idea of leaving this video was a bit inappropriate.
He was pushed by Deng Xi. When he looked up, he met a pair of clear blue eyes that were eager to learn. The rolling of his throat seemed to have become difficult in an instant.
His expression was still indifferent. His silver eyes narrowed slightly. “Do you really want to know?”
The nod that should have been without hesitation, Deng Xi hesitated for a while. The little merman sensitively detected that something seemed to be wrong.
Deng Xi said in a small voice, “It’s okay if Little Mute doesn’t tell me.” He thought for a moment, then extended his fingertip and gestured a little. “Just a little bit.”
Just a little bit of wanting to know.
“Little Mute will teach me, right?”
An almost sticky silence.
In this position, all Si Jisheng had to do was slightly turn his head, and the tip of his lips could touch the base of the little merman’s ear. He restrained himself and stopped in mid-air before Deng Xi’s ear.
He said two words very, very softly.
The hoarse and deep male voice was at hand. Deng Xi’s ear seemed to have been burned again, and the base of his ear was so red it was about to burn.
“Humans will call a successfully matched mate a husband and wife. The husband is equivalent to the male, and the wife is the female of the mate.”
Deng Xi was in a daze. He belatedly widened his eyes and looked at the little mute, who had a calm expression. He stammered for a long while before he managed to spit out a few sticky words, “Little Mute did it on purpose.”
How could he be like this?
What did he mean by telling him the meaning after he had already said it?
Too bad.
