Chapter 82: You’re Lying
Si Jisheng paused for a moment, his lowered silver eyes narrowing slightly. Under his gaze, the blue eyes clearly trembled.
He was clearly lying.
The almost interrogating, piercing gaze made Deng Xi evasively rub against the silver-tail’s face again. His wet and soft cheeks were pressed against the face with a distinct jawline, and the cold water droplets from the seawater increased the humidity.
Si Jisheng’s expression was cold, and his thin lips were pressed so tightly they were almost a line. He always used this trick to muddle through.
Deng Xi was not afraid. “I won’t do it next time, I promise! I’ll always have my comm with me.”
“Okay?”
Si Jisheng surveyed the surface of the sea. “It’s time to go back.”
A few words cruelly deprived the little merman of his weekend playtime on the sea.
His tone was firm, with no room for negotiation, indicating that he was not willing to easily let go of Deng Xi, who had done something wrong and had even lied.
Deng Xi didn’t want to go back. “No.”
He hadn’t had enough fun yet.
“Little Mute already promised me.”
“I’m not going back.”
“Don’t hold me.”
The silver Jiaoren switched to holding the blue-tail’s hand and swam in the direction of the manor. No matter how Deng Xi struggled, he did not let go.
His strength was simply too great, and his swimming speed was frighteningly fast. Deng Xi was swept along by the passing current, with no way to break free. In the end, he could only be led back to the pool by the little mute.
Deng Xi was unhappy.
The moment he returned to the pool, he sat on the large shell by himself, his tail fin swaying angrily, and he hugged his chest, not looking at the silver-tail on the other side.
But Si Jisheng was temporarily unable to attend to Deng Xi. The Jiaoren’s keen senses made the silver-tail vaguely sense that something was wrong. After a moment of thought, he sent a message to the adjutant, “Check the sea area near District A again.”
The adjutant immediately sent an inquiry, “Commander, is the scale of the inspection the same as the one before you moved in?”
Si Jisheng said in a cold voice, “This time, conduct a carpet search.”
Last time, he hadn’t been able to find anything unusual before he moved in. If he checked again, the result might be the same. Even if it was just a gut feeling, Si Jisheng was not prepared to let go of any possibility. It was always better to be safe than sorry.
The little merman, who was sulking by himself, not only did not receive any comfort from the silver-tail, but was instead met with a piece of bad news.
Deng Xi: “Why can’t I go and play tomorrow either?”
He had very little time to play in the ocean in the first place.
He had only taken off his comm, why was he being restricted from going out like this? It was too much.
Deng Xi didn’t understand, but he just wanted the little mute to give him a reasonable reason and explain it to him clearly.
He could agree.
The little mute’s world was very complicated. Deng Xi wanted to slowly understand it. Why couldn’t he take off his comm? Why couldn’t he leave the little mute’s side these few days? Why couldn’t he go out to play in the ocean?
Where was the danger? Were there bad people around them? The little mute had not told him any of this.
And what was the meaning of the words that the black-haired merman had said?
Deng Xi had too many things he didn’t understand.
But the little mute didn’t seem to want to explain it to him clearly. The silver-tail had always been like this, always solving everything by himself.
Si Jisheng wanted Deng Xi to be able to live a normal person’s ordinary daily life in the human world. He repeated in a low voice, “It will be very dangerous these few days. It’s best to stay by my side.”
Deng Xi sat on the shell and looked up at the silver-tail in front of him. “Will there be danger in the ocean too?”
Si Jisheng nodded.
Deng Xi pursed his lips. “Why?”
If he hadn’t promised to keep it a secret, he would have really wanted to tell the little mute that the ocean was very safe, not dangerous, and that he had even met their kinsman. It was just that the other party looked a little pitiful, and the things he said were also strange.
Si Jisheng was silent for a moment, then coaxed in a low voice, “We’ll go and play next week.”
Deng Xi was not angry, because he had also hidden what he had encountered in the ocean today from the little mute. He sullenly nodded his head. “Alright.”
But the next day, the little merman, who had been staying in the pool and had not turned into his human form to go ashore, couldn’t help but swim to the front of the transparent glass cover. He reached out and touched the glass cover, looking at the boundless sea outside.
He was a little worried.
If the audio was ineffective, would the black-haired merman really wait for him forever? If he didn’t go, would the other party wait from day until night?
Deng Xi anxiously swam in circles on the seabed, his tail fin constantly swaying. Why not just go out and take a look?
Just take a look, sing a song, and he would be back soon.
He looked at the time. They had just finished lunch. At this time, the little mute would be upstairs dealing with work.
He shouldn’t be discovered.
Deng Xi swam out from the reef cluster channel that connected the pool to the outside ocean. The little merman couldn’t quite remember the way from yesterday. He followed some of the landmarks he had memorized along the way and swam forward.
The blue fish tail was not swimming fast.
Deng Xi was in a daze for half a day before he found the reef where he had seen the black merman yesterday.
But strangely, there were no creatures in front of the reef.
Had he been tricked?
Deng Xi looked around and confirmed that he had not found the wrong place. He waited for a while, then couldn’t help but swim up, wanting to go to the surface to see.
The moment his tail fin swayed, the black-haired merman, who had been hiding behind the reef and observing, suddenly reached out and grabbed Deng Xi, instantly pulling the blue-tail into the cave under the reef.
The scared little merman’s blue eyes widened in panic.
“Don’t make a sound. Did you come by yourself?” The black-haired merman looked at the blue-tail with suspicion.
It took Deng Xi a while to recognize who the other party was in the dim seabed. He let out a small sigh of relief and nodded his head vigorously. “Yes! I promised you, I didn’t tell anyone.”
The black-haired merman let go of Deng Xi, swam out of the cave and looked outside again. His cautious movements were accompanied by a strange sense of panic.
Deng Xi asked strangely, “What’s wrong?”
But the black-haired merman asked in return, “Are you sure you didn’t lie to me?”
Deng Xi blinked his eyes in confusion. “No.”
Even in the dim seabed, as long as there was light, the golden-haired merman’s clear blue eyes could be clearly seen, sincere and clear.
After a moment, the black-haired merman’s fierce tone returned to normal, but he was still very anxious. “Then why is someone looking for me?”
He had listened to all those audio files last night, but they were of no use at all. It was not like what those aliens on the star network had said, that after hearing the song, the degree of mutation would be suppressed.
He was not a human, nor was he an alien.
He was like a piece of rotten old wood, completely withered and dry. There were no new cells that could bring him any change, like a pool of stagnant water.
Hearing the merman’s song with his own ears was his last hope.
He had waited from late night until dawn, but what he had waited for was not the golden-haired, blue-tailed merman, but a sky full of flying detection devices. They covered the entire sea area of District A, and almost all the sea creatures were exposed under the light.
The black-haired merman could only hide in the depths of the underwater canyon. He had waited for a long time before he found a gap in the detection devices, but soon, the manual search began.
He should be glad that he had waited for Deng Xi before those people had searched this sea area.
Deng Xi asked, at a loss, “Are they bad people?”
The black-haired merman’s face was pale. “To me, they are.”
As long as he was discovered, he would only have a dead end.
What should he do, what should he do?
Deng Xi himself was also very panicked, but the black-haired merman looked many, many times more scared than him. “Where are they?”
The black-haired merman replied mechanically, “They’re less than half an hour away from this sea area.”
Deng Xi was so anxious he was spinning in circles. “Then what should we do?”
The black-haired merman let go of all his energy, as if he had resigned himself to his fate. “You don’t have to worry about me.”
If it was someone from the Council of Elders, Deng Xi would also be in trouble with him. Now, returning to the Marshal’s side was the safest.
A clear voice sounded in the dim lair, very light and low, but still very beautiful. “How can that be?”
Deng Xi pulled the black-haired merman’s arm and looked at the other party’s delicate face with a dazed expression. He said cautiously, “Come with me.”
Before the black-haired merman could react, he was pulled out of the cave and swam forward.
A merman’s swimming speed was very slow.
In the gap while Deng Xi was swimming forward, he could still turn back to look at the black-haired merman’s state. The other party seemed to have been in a daze all along, staring at him blankly.
The little merman could only take the time to say, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to my home. Our kinsman is very amazing! They definitely won’t dare to come over.”
They stopped in the reef cluster channel that connected the pool to the outside ocean. The black-haired merman did not follow Deng Xi any further. He did not dare to enter the territory of the military’s Marshal. If it weren’t for the fact that he couldn’t leave this ocean, he would have left the vicinity on the first day the Marshal had moved in, in the middle of the night.
Seeing that the black-haired merman was not speaking, and his face was also extremely pale, his black eyes were constantly trembling neurotically.
Deng Xi comforted him, at a loss, “Our kinsman is really amazing. Don’t be afraid, and don’t be anxious.”
It took the black-haired merman a long while to speak. “I’m really not your kinsman. Although I don’t know why you’re helping me, I’m still very grateful to you. If in the future…” he paused, but did not continue his words. After a moment of hesitation, he suddenly reacted and asked, “Who is your kinsman? The Marshal?”
Deng Xi nodded.
The black-haired merman’s face was strange. “How did you two meet?” He could vaguely guess from the news on the star network.
Deng Xi thought seriously for a moment.
The reef cluster was distributed in a large cave channel. It was very dim here, with not much light. Deng Xi couldn’t even see the black-haired merman beside him clearly. In the darkness of his vision, he curved his eyelids. “He suddenly fell from the sky, and was covered in injuries. Because his tail was too beautiful, I saved him.”
“I always thought that there were no more of my kinsmen in the world. But, it turns out that you are all in the human world.”
So magical.
The black-haired merman’s expression was complicated. After a moment, he finally explained, “No, I’m not your kinsman. My tail was created by humans.”
“He’s not either.”
“He is an alien, an alien that was transformed from a human. And the legendary mermen, they have a fish tail and ear fins from birth.”
After a long while, a soft voice sounded in the darkness. “But we all have tails.”
“You’re lying.”
It was a little stuffy.
“You’ve been living by the Marshal’s side for so long. Has no one ever told you what his mutated species is?”
But it was also very normal. If there was the Marshal’s signal, and also the fact that not many people dared to discuss the Marshal’s identity now.
Thinking of how the blue-tail had been desperately pulling him forward just now, a hint of pity flashed in the black-haired merman’s eyes. “His species is an Eastern Jiaoren, similar to a merman.”
“Haven’t you ever found it strange? Why is it that you are both ‘mermen,’ but the Marshal is so much more amazing than you?”
Whether it was his sharp claws or the strength of his tail fin, or the speed when he was swimming.
The black-haired merman did not hear an answer in the darkness and continued to say what he had not finished before. “If in the future…” he had thought it through. “If the Marshal hurts you, you can reveal my existence and make an exchange.”
“The military will need me.”
