Chapter 8: Little Niangao and Little Nuomi
“Meow.”
In the living room, after the assistant was urgently called back by the manager, Yu Weixi and Niangao, one big and one small, stared at the little white kitten curled up in a ball on the carpet.
The kitten looked sickly and weak, and it was very dirty. It must have been in the tree for some time, hungry and tired.
Niangao tugged at the corner of Yu Weixi’s shirt. “Daddy… what should we do?”
Yu Weixi sighed helplessly.
“Wait a minute.”
Yu Weixi went online to consult the omnipotent Baidu.
—How to take care of a kitten?
—What do kittens eat and drink?
—Can kittens be bathed?
After reading for a while, Yu Weixi got up and took out a wet wipe to clean the kitten’s body.
The kitten was too dirty, but he had read on a forum that kittens that were too young shouldn’t be bathed, so this was the only option.
Yu Weixi held the kitten in his palm and, together with Niangao, wiped its body.
Although the kitten was scared and nervous, it was very well-behaved. At least it didn’t scratch or bite, perhaps because it had been terrified in the tree earlier.
Yu Weixi muttered, “It’s strange, how did such a tiny cat climb so high up?”
Niangao blinked and asked, “Daddy, is the kitten’s mommy not coming back?”
“Probably not.” Yu Weixi frowned slightly. The kitten looked like it had been abandoned.
“Then… can we…” Niangao swallowed and said cautiously, “keep it?”
Yu Weixi raised an eyebrow and looked at Niangao.
Niangao shook Yu Weixi’s hand. “Can we, please?”
Yu Weixi said, “Then Niangao will have to take good care of it. You have to treat it as your responsibility. Can you do that?”
“Mmm!”
“Alright, then we’ll have to go out and buy goat’s milk later, and take the cat to the vet for a check-up.”
“Mmm, mmm, mmm!”
After they finished cleaning the kitten and made a nest for it, they heard a knock on the door.
“Thump, thump, thump.” Niangao ran over, stepped on the small stool by the door to open it, and once again saw a tall, dark and gloomy figure.
Feng Yan smiled and held up the bag in his hand. “Goat’s milk. You should need this.”
Niangao was overjoyed. A big smile spread across his face, and he opened his arms. “Gege!!”
Feng Yan’s heart melted. He bent down and picked up the child.
After Yu Weixi placed the kitten in a box lined with fluffy towels and newspapers, he turned around to see that the child had been stolen away by Feng Yan again.
Yu Weixi’s eyes narrowed, his gaze dangerous as he looked at Feng Yan.
Feng Yan held up his hands. “Look, I brought you goat’s milk.”
After being let in, Feng Yan glanced at the boxing stand and punching bag still on the balcony and felt helpless.
This guy hasn’t really started practicing boxing, has he?
Yu Weixi noticed Feng Yan’s gaze and smiled. “What? Scared?”
Yu Weixi stood on his tiptoes. “I’m warning you, don’t mess with me in the future. I’ll punch you from here all the way back to your apartment.”
Less than 1.8 meters tall, with a 2.8-meter aura.
So fierce.
Feng Yan fell into deep thought.
He was considering whether to show off the high-dan black belt Taekwondo certificate in his wallet.
Forget it, don’t crush the little friend’s fighting spirit.
Feng Yan didn’t say anything. He just sat down by the cardboard box, poured the goat’s milk into a small bottle, and said, “Facai was just a little puppy when I raised him by hand. You probably don’t have these things, so I brought them over for you to borrow.”
“Facai?” Niangao looked at Feng Yan curiously.
Yu Weixi interjected, “The two huskies he owns, Facai and Dashun.”
After speaking, Yu Weixi let out a deep, soul-felt disgust and pouted. “The most unsophisticated names I’ve ever heard.”
“What’s unsophisticated about them? They’re simple and cute.” Feng Yan pinched Niangao’s cheek and smiled. “Does Niangao want to see them? You can go to my place to see them. They’re very beautiful.”
Niangao nodded like a pecking chicken.
“Niangao!” Yu Weixi bared his teeth from the side. “Don’t just agree to a stranger’s request. You’re not allowed to go with strangers.”
Niangao looked at Yu Weixi in confusion.
But this gege wasn’t a stranger.
“Little Dance King,” Feng Yan said while feeding the kitten goat’s milk. “Look, I was the one who held Niangao and rescued the kitten. Now I’ve even brought you milk. It’s fine if you’re not grateful to this passerby who acted heroically and lent a helping hand, but why are you still so fierce?”
Yu Weixi was stunned and turned to look at Niangao.
Niangao nodded. “That’s right! Gege held me, and I got the cat down.”
Tsk.
Yu Weixi pouted, rested his chin on his hand, and watched Feng Yan finish feeding the goat’s milk and put the kitten back in the box.
“This cat is too small. It’s hard to keep it alive after it’s been separated from its mother,” Feng Yan said. “You have to be mentally prepared.”
Kittens found on the street were generally difficult to raise. Food, temperature, and defecation all required great care and attention.
Yu Weixi nodded. “It wouldn’t survive outside anyway. It’s better to let us try. I’ll watch it carefully.”
At least it was summer now, not winter yet. The kitten hadn’t been exposed to the cold outside, which made things much simpler.
“Let’s try!” Niangao grabbed Yu Weixi’s hand. “We need to give the kitten a name.”
Yu Weixi raised an eyebrow and smiled. “What name does Niangao want to give it?”
“Ah…” Niangao frowned, staring at the kitten and racking his brains.
Feng Yan looked at the white cat. It was soft and a little timid, curled up in a corner of the box, staring at Niangao with big, black-bean-like eyes.
Feng Yan smiled and said, “It’s white. How about we call it Nuomi?”
Niangao, after all, was made from nuomi.
“Okay!” Niangao picked up the kitten and stroked it gently. “Nuomi.”
Nuomi let out a soft “meow” and curled itself into a glutinous rice ball.
“So cute.” Niangao couldn’t put it down.
Yu Weixi also smiled.
Feng Yan handed the goat’s milk and bottle to Yu Weixi, telling him when to feed it and other precautions.
“If you have any problems, just find me. I’m just next door.”
Yu Weixi took the things Feng Yan handed him and turned his head away. “Get lost.”
“Use and toss, you heartless man.” Feng Yan stood up and shook his head.
…
Then, Feng Yan froze.
For some reason, that sentence had struck a chord with Yu Weixi. The tips of Yu Weixi’s ears suddenly flushed bright red, so red they looked like they were about to bleed.
It was the first time in many years that Feng Yan had seen Yu Weixi look like this.
Feng Yan looked down from above. The beautiful youth was sitting barefoot on the carpet, hugging his knees, looking at him fiercely. His eyes held a mix of feigned anger and indifference, his thin lips pressed into a beautiful curve.
The ears hidden in his black hair were bright red.
“What are you looking at.” Yu Weixi looked up and said coldly. “Aren’t you leaving yet?”
Feng Yan smiled and waved at Niangao. “I’m going back now.”
“Bye-bye!” Niangao raised his hand and waved high.
As Feng Yan was leaving, he happened to run into Yu Han. Yu Han looked at Feng Yan, who was walking out of Yu Weixi’s apartment with a radiant expression, and thought he was seeing things.
And when Yu Han stepped into Yu Weixi’s apartment and saw Yu Weixi’s red ears, he thought he had time-traveled.
Hello??
What’s going on here? It’s only been a day, how did the progress bar get this far? Was this day on double speed?

Facai and Dashun: These names mean “Get Rich” and “Great Fortune/Success” respectively. They are considered somewhat old-fashioned or “earthy”, hence Yu Weixi’s comment.
-
Nuomi (糯米): Means “glutinous rice” or “sticky rice.” It’s a pun on Niangao (年糕), which means “rice cake” and is made from glutinous rice.
