He also inquired about the situation with healing awakened.

Zhuang Yufeng did not know much about healing ability users at this stage. In his previous life, that ability user had appeared very suddenly and was not talkative, gloomy overall, making it hard to associate him with a healing ability.

Not only was the Lu Family searching for people, but the Anomalous Affairs Bureau was also seeking out ability users among the populace. “Come today. I have time.” Upon receiving the message, Zhuang Yufeng called directly. “Is Mr. Lu’s condition serious?”

“Not serious. I just want to confirm if he was attacked by weird phenomena again last night.” Lin Juan still felt uneasy no matter how he thought about it.

“Are you coming straight to the Research Institute or…” Zhuang Yufeng asked.

Before he finished, Lin Juan interrupted: “We’re not going to the Research Institute. Pick another location.”

For safety, Lin Juan had specially set an early alarm.

He woke groggily to find only himself in the bed when he reached out.

He rubbed his eyes and sat up.

To let him sleep better, only a dim lamp lit the room. Lin Juan heard the rustle of fabric and looked toward the sound.

The man was lowering his head to adjust his cufflinks.

“You’re going to work?”

Lu Yanzhou paused, not expecting Lin Juan to wake: “Did I wake you?”

“No, I set an alarm.” The vibrating one—Lin Juan woke as soon as it rang.

“Why get up so early?” Lu Yanzhou knew Lin Juan’s habits after living together for so long.

The other man usually stayed up late and got up late. He generally did not go to bed until after midnight, but never past one, and he did not rise until after nine in the morning. It was not even seven yet. If there was nothing going on, Lin Juan would not get up.

“After what happened yesterday, I wasn’t at ease with you going to the company.” Lin Juan covered his mouth and yawned.

It was really too early. He was so sleepy.

He should have told Lu Yanzhou the night before.

But Lu Yanzhou had looked so preoccupied last night, and Lin Juan had hesitated and forgotten.

The young man’s long hair draped down. Under the hazy light, that face was so beautiful it did not seem real.

He was clearly so sleepy, yet he still thought to care for him and got up early out of concern for his safety…

Lu Yanzhou felt a warmth settle in his heart.

“There’s a meeting this morning,” he said, his voice softening unconsciously as he explained. “There won’t be any danger going to the company.”

“Just the company, nowhere else.” Lu Yanzhou guaranteed.

If it had been before, Lu Yanzhou never would have believed that one day he would willingly report his itinerary to someone.

If his subordinates at the company found out, they would probably be shocked beyond measure.

Was this still their domineering, autocratic Lu BOSS who tolerated no defiance?

But Lu Yanzhou did not feel anything wrong with it at all. As he tied his tie, he said, “You keep sleeping. No need to worry.”

“Can the meeting be postponed? I’ve already messaged Doctor Zhuang for a check-up.” Lin Juan had sent the message.

“Sure, I’ll reschedule.”

Lu Yanzhou went outside to make a phone call. Lin Juan also received a call from Zhuang Yufeng. They settled on a time and place, and Lu Yanzhou walked back in from outside.

Lin Juan had already lain back down in bed, properly covered by the blanket. “I’ll nap a bit more. Doctor Zhuang said he’ll come at nine. You rest a while too?”

“I’ll go exercise.” The bed was very warm, and the young man in the bed was very tempting, but Lu Yanzhou gave it up.

He was a very disciplined person and exercised for half an hour every morning without fail.

“Then I’m sleeping. Remember to wake me.” In Lu Garden, Lin Juan was not too worried. He closed his eyes, and sleepiness washed over him.

He fell asleep quickly.

Lu Yanzhou stood by the bed, looking at the young man under the covers.

At eight-fifty, Lu Yanzhou woke Lin Juan.

He had changed clothes again, still a suit but more casual than what he wore to the company, not so formal.

Lin Juan got up, washed up, and changed.

His clothes were stored together with Lu Yanzhou’s. The entire walk-in closet was divided in two: one side neatly arranged with various suits, the other with various casual clothes, all procured by the Lu Family. Lin Juan casually picked one to change into.

After getting ready, Zhuang Yufeng arrived.

Lin Juan told him what happened the night before. “I helped him out of the bathroom and asked for a long time before he admitted it. His legs hurt.”

Thinking about it, Lin Juan found it a bit funny.

After blow-drying the man’s hair last night, he had probed with a question, but Lu Yanzhou had turned into a tight-lipped gourd again, not saying a word.

After spending time together, Lin Juan would not say he understood Lu Yanzhou a hundred percent, but fifty percent for sure. The less he said, the more it meant there was a problem—and a big one.

Lin Juan coaxed and wheedled until he finally got Lu Yanzhou to open up.

When he heard the words “legs hurt” from the man’s mouth, Lin Juan could not believe it. “Just leg pain? Why didn’t you say so?”

Seeing that he was a bit angry, Lu Yanzhou pursed his lips. “It hurt a lot, like needles piercing my heart. I wanted to endure it a while and see if it got better.”

“And it didn’t, right?” Seeing him show weakness like that, Lin Juan could not stay mad. “Does it still hurt now? Want me to massage it? Or should I just call a doctor for you right away?”

With that, Lin Juan went to grab his phone.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore now. I asked the doctor before, and he said it’s normal. Once my legs recover, it won’t be like this.” Lu Yanzhou did not mention the things growing on his legs. He was not sure if it had been a hallucination from the pain.

Because from the time Lin Juan appeared until now, his legs had been normal, with no more disordered scales.

“Doctor Zhuang, please take a look at him.” Pulling out of the memory, Lin Juan spoke up.

Zhuang Yufeng had brought the Pollution Detector. The current detectors were quite bulky and not convenient to carry, but ability users all had great strength, so carrying something over ten kilograms was no trouble.

The Pollution Detector showed that Lu Yanzhou’s pollution value was very low.

After the scan, Zhuang Yufeng used his supernatural ability to check Lu Yanzhou’s body once over. “There’s nothing wrong with his body.”

Nothing wrong was good.

Lin Juan relaxed and, embarrassed to have Zhuang Yufeng come all this way for nothing, invited him to stay for lunch at Lu Garden.

“That healing ability user doesn’t know where he is either.” Lin Juan stirred the soup in his bowl, scooped a spoonful to his mouth, blew on it to cool it, then sipped.

Lu Yanzhou used to just have no strength in his legs. Now that some strength had returned, the pain started. He did not know if it was good or bad.

Old Master Lu heard about this and, uneasy, called in the medical team for a full-body check on Lu Yanzhou.

All the results came back normal.

The doctors could not explain why Lu Yanzhou’s legs hurt.

“Will Yanzhou’s legs hurt again in the future?” Old Master Lu asked worriedly.

The doctors exchanged glances. “We can’t guarantee.”

From start to finish, the illness Lu Yanzhou had was very strange. Many aspects defied current medical knowledge.

They were the top medical team in the country and had seen countless bizarre diseases, but none as tricky as Lu Yanzhou’s.

Whether it was the inexplicable loss of vitality after the coma or the sudden improvement upon waking, they could not explain it.

Old Master Lu knew his youngest son’s illness could not be explained by common sense and did not ask more.

Back home, no matter how he thought about it, he remained uneasy. He found Lin Juan reading in the tea room.

“Why are you here?” Lin Juan was nestled in a rattan chair sunning himself. Seeing Old Master Lu, he got up.

“You sit. I’ll just wander around.” Old Master Lu sat on the sofa, and the butler beside him poured a cup of tea.

Lin Juan felt sleepy from the sun.

“Yanzhou went to the company?” Old Master Lu finished a cup of tea and spoke.

“Yes, he said there was an important meeting. He wanted to go this morning, but I wasn’t at ease and didn’t let him.” Lin Juan sat up straight. If he lounged any longer, he would fall asleep.

“That boy is what you young people call a workaholic. He really is one.” Old Master Lu laughed.

“I’m here because I have something to trouble you with.” Old Master Lu set down his teacup. “The maggots in the company have mostly been cleaned out, but no one can guarantee it’s truly clean. This weighs on my mind.”

“Yanzhou’s style is too dictatorial, his methods too harsh. That’s good and bad. When people are pushed to the limit, they tend to do irrational things. He fell into a coma before because he dealt with a vice president at a branch company, plus competitors stirring things up.”

“This time back at the company, his methods are even harsher. Things were fine before settling scores with those people. Why did the leg pain start just as the reckoning neared its end?”

Old Master Lu could not help but suspect it had to do with those being reckoned with.

If it really did, then the corporation was not safe.

Lu Yanzhou shouldered heavy burdens. With so many employees in the Lu Corporation from top to bottom, he could not just abandon it.

Sitting in that position meant bearing the corresponding responsibilities along with the power.

“What do you mean?”

“I want to ask if you can accompany him to the company?”

“Huh?” Lin Juan pointed at himself. “Go to the company with him?”

“Leaving aside whether Yanzhou would agree, it wouldn’t be good for someone unconnected to the company like me to go, right?”

“No need to worry about that. I’ll draw up a special employment agreement. On the surface, you’ll join as Yanzhou’s assistant.” Old Master Lu had thought it through and even prepared the agreement.

He glanced back, and the butler took the hint, bringing over the document prepared earlier. “Mr. Lin, you can take a look first.”

Lin Juan took it and flipped it open. The first thing that caught his eye was a “1” followed by a long string of “0”s. Lin Juan snapped it shut and took a deep breath. “No problem, I’m in.”

“Do you have any other requests?” The Lu Family’s generosity always exceeded Lin Juan’s expectations.

“If possible, I hope you can urge Yanzhou to eat and rest on time. When he gets busy, he always forgets.” Seeing him agree, Old Master Lu’s face grew even more kindly.
