Chapter 14
Wen Cheng stared in shock at the extra person at the breakfast table. The kitchen staff and the butler also couldn’t help but stare at Gu Chi, who sat there calmly, as if he owned the place.
The man was tall, with striking features and expensive clothes, exuding an aura of power.
“Brother, who is this?” He didn’t recall Wen Linyu inviting any guests last night, especially someone so imposing. He wouldn’t have forgotten.
Wen Linyu’s expression was cold. He didn’t even look at Gu Chi, simply replying: “Someone insignificant.”
Gu Chi wasn’t offended. He sat close to Wen Linyu and, as Wen Linyu was about to eat a piece of meat, reached out and snatched it, popping it into his own mouth.
Wen Linyu’s hand, now free, tightened around his fork. He lost his appetite.
So annoying!
Wen Cheng was stunned again. He had been about to intervene when the man stole the food, expecting a violent reaction from Wen Linyu, who had been quick to anger these past few days. Yet, the man remained unharmed?
And he had eaten Wen Linyu’s food!
Who was this guy? And what was their relationship?
“Gu Chi,” Gu Chi said cheerfully, then addressed the butler, “I’ll be staying here from now on. As for a room, no need for separate arrangements. I’ll be sharing with him.”
Butler: “???” Who are you? I’m not your butler!
Wen Cheng caught the key phrase, sharing with him? Did that mean they— Holy shit! He was about to ask when this had happened. He had never seen Wen Linyu close to anyone.
He wanted all the gossip, but Wen Linyu’s cold expression and Gu Chi’s menacing aura made him think twice. He had a feeling he might get killed if he spoke out of turn.
He kept his mouth shut and focused on his breakfast.
Outside, Wen Linyu got into the car, followed by Gu Chi. Wen Cheng was about to join them in the back seat when Gu Chi gave him a calm, yet pointed look.
“…” His feet suddenly had a mind of their own, leading him to the front passenger seat.
Seeing that Gu Chi intended to accompany him to school, Wen Linyu finally spoke: “I’m going to school. What are you following me for?”
Gu Chi’s expression was matter-of-fact: “I know.”
Hadn’t he accompanied Wen Linyu for ten years? He was used to it, even though school was boring and the subjects basic.
Wen Linyu stared at that face. He had worn it for ten years, but with a different soul inside, the same face looked completely different.
He hated this feeling of being controlled.
The car started moving. Wen Linyu didn’t bother looking at the scenery, his attention focused on the person beside him.
Gu Chi took his hand, examining it closely, tracing his fingertips, and then, unexpectedly, biting his finger.
The strange sensation made Wen Linyu flinch. He yanked his hand back and slapped Gu Chi across the face.
The slap echoed through the car.
The driver nearly swerved. Wen Cheng gasped, “Holy shit!”, and couldn’t resist glancing at the back seat through the rearview mirror.
Gu Chi looked slightly stunned, but not angry. He touched his cheek, a strange smile appearing on his face, as if savoring the sensation.
Wen Cheng & Driver: What the fuck… what a freak!
Wen Linyu turned away, his slightly tingling palm the only evidence of the slap.
He had no cultivation now, so it was just an ordinary slap.
For Gu Chi, it wasn’t painful, just… slightly irritating.
He was indeed savoring the sensation, recalling the expression on the face of the subordinate Wen Linyu had slapped.
Like a soft paw gently brushing against his cheek.
If he hadn’t sensed Wen Linyu’s anger, he would have asked for another.
The rest of the ride was quiet, the atmosphere strange, filled with unspoken questions about the mysterious man who had suddenly appeared and his seemingly complicated relationship with Wen Linyu.
Finally, they arrived at the school gate.
Wen Linyu inwardly sighed in relief. At least he wouldn’t have to see this man during class.
Wen Cheng thought the same. Gu Chi was clearly too old to be a student. He looked at least twenty-eight, while Wen Linyu was only eighteen.
He couldn’t find anyone named Gu Chi in A City. He wondered where Wen Linyu had met him.
At the school gate, Gu Chi looked at the security guard and the entrance, but didn’t try to force his way in.
Wen Linyu glanced back at him. Gu Chi smiled and waved: “See you later.”
Wen Linyu found it odd. He had impersonated Gu Chi for ten years and knew that the Demon Lord always got his way.
Just because he wasn’t a student and couldn’t enter through the gate didn’t mean he wouldn’t find another way in.
Wen Linyu didn’t believe him, but for now, he was glad he wasn’t following him. He wouldn’t ask why.
After walking ten meters away from Gu Chi, Wen Linyu felt his cultivation return. Instead of relief, he felt a surge of wariness.
A true villain wouldn’t be so kind.
He was probably planning something.
Wen Linyu sat down at his desk, frowning. His deskmate, who had been emboldened by his recent apparent docility, quickly shrunk back, whispering to the students in front.
Wen Linyu was about to tell them to relax when he received a message.
Assuming it was from Gu Chi, he opened it, only to find it was from the person he had rescued from the ditch yesterday.
It turned out he was the one who had posted the plea for help on the forum. He hadn’t responded to the friend request earlier because he had been tormented by a ghost.
It seemed fate had brought them together. Despite the delayed response, Wen Linyu had still saved him.
Reading the profuse thanks, Wen Linyu’s mood improved slightly.
But his good mood was short-lived.
“Hmph, why did you save him? Serves him right for messing with those things. You’re still so soft-hearted.” The familiar voice echoed behind him.
Wen Linyu instinctively struck out with his palm, not hitting anyone, but exploding the basketball a student in the back row was spinning.
The classroom fell silent.
The student’s jaw dropped. He couldn’t process what had just happened. Was spinning a basketball forbidden? It wasn’t a serious offense, was it?
Wen Linyu’s face flushed. He mumbled an apology and offered the student some money.
No one responded. They were all stunned by his sudden outburst.
A chuckle echoed in his ear: “Apologizing again.”
Wen Linyu ignored him, but as he sat down, his body froze. He immediately stood up.
Invisible to everyone else, someone was sitting in his seat.
All eyes were on him again, fearing another outburst. The entire classroom held its breath.
Wen Linyu’s lips moved silently, but Gu Chi heard him, his voice a low growl: “You pervert, get out!”
