Chapter 10
Despite its internal complaints, Wei Yuan didn’t hesitate to act.
It clumsily reached out with its front paws, hugging Lu Dingyun’s hand.
The kitten’s thick fur brushed against his skin, and its paw pads pressed gently against the back of his hand. Lu Dingyun was instantly smitten.
He looked at the kitten, which was gazing up at him expectantly.
Who could resist that?
Lu Dingyun abandoned the cart, carefully scooping up the kitten, cradling it in his arms in a comfortable position that wouldn’t strain its wounds.
Wei Yuan had known that sooner or later, like a real kitten, it would end up in this human’s arms, and it had mentally prepared itself.
But when it actually happened, its heart pounded uncontrollably.
A week ago, who would have thought it would be held in its rival’s arms?
And now, not only was it being held, but it was also being called “baby.”
“Good baby. The toys I ordered for you should arrive in a day or two. For now, is there anything you want to play with?” Lu Dingyun strolled around the apartment with the kitten in his arms.
Kittens were usually wary in new environments.
But once they became familiar, their instincts would take over, quickly claiming the space as their territory and attempting to rule the roost.
This was also the beginning of a kitten truly letting its guard down around its owner.
Lu Dingyun was delighted that the kitten was becoming more affectionate and exploring its surroundings.
Wei Yuan shifted slightly, making itself more comfortable.
He had to admit, the movie emperor’s arms, while not overly muscular, were surprisingly comfortable and provided a sense of security.
It stopped its pointless musings and focused on observing its surroundings.
It remembered seeing a desktop computer in the study, which was just…
“Meow~” Right there!
The kitten suddenly spoke, and Lu Dingyun instinctively stopped, glancing ahead.
The study was right in front of them.
“You want to go to the study?” Lu Dingyun asked, already walking towards the room.
A wall full of bookshelves and a large display cabinet filled with various certificates and awards greeted them.
Wei Yuan saw several gleaming Best Actor awards, along with Best Newcomer, Best Supporting Actor, Most Popular Actor, and other film and television awards.
There were also some awards Wei Yuan didn’t recognize.
But at a glance, they seemed to be from math and physics competitions, all first-place prizes.
He really was a top student.
Wei Yuan felt a pang of envy.
Although its own academic record wasn’t bad, it paled in comparison to this academic god.
But Young Master Wei quickly recovered. It wasn’t someone who dwelled on such things.
Its eyes lit up as it looked at the desk.
There it was, a desktop computer, complete with a camera and microphone, perfect for livestreaming.
Of course, livestreaming wasn’t its goal, just a means to an end. Its ultimate goal was to secretly access the internet!
Wait, if it could figure out Lu Dingyun’s password, it could use the internet freely when he wasn’t home.
The more Wei Yuan thought about it, the better the idea seemed.
It eagerly reached out its paw towards the computer, indicating its desire to go there.
Lu Dingyun raised an eyebrow, walking over to the desk and sitting down.
The kitten immediately tried to climb onto the desk.
Lu Dingyun scanned the desk. There was nothing on it except for the keyboard, microphone, and mouse.
Since he rarely came back, and due to his status and need for privacy, only his parents occasionally came to clean.
Even the appliances and furniture had been purchased by the interior design company.
Presumably, the computer and the livestreaming equipment had been bought then, but Lu Dingyun had never used them.
The kitten meowed softly, trying its best to climb onto the desk.
Lu Dingyun looked at the silver-gray mouse, thinking he understood.
The kitten must have mistaken the mouse for a real mouse and wanted to catch it.
So cute.
Lu Dingyun chuckled, gently placing the kitten on the desk. “Be careful.”
Wei Yuan, with its back to him, ignored him.
The kitten shifted its position, then reached out and patted the keyboard, making clicking sounds.
Turn it on!
It thought its hint was clear enough.
Silence.
Movie Emperor Lu didn’t react.
Wei Yuan turned, looking at him suspiciously, only to find Lu Dingyun holding his phone, filming it.
Hey, what are you filming me for?
The equipment was ready, shouldn’t he be livestreaming?
Lu Dingyun, seeing the kitten looking at him, smiled gently. “Keep playing, Xiao Yuan, don’t mind me.”
Wei Yuan: “…”
You creep, I really don’t want to mind you.
The kitten was at an impasse.
Cats and humans were different species; it was difficult to communicate with Lu Dingyun.
But the kitten wouldn’t give up.
It shifted closer to the computer screen, then turned to look at Lu Dingyun, patting the screen with its paw.
Computer, on, understand?
The kitten’s expression and actions were so clear that Lu Dingyun miraculously understood.
He asked tentatively, “Do you want me to turn on the computer?”
Wei Yuan nodded immediately.
Lu Dingyun: “!”
Was he dreaming?
Did his kitten understand human language?
Despite his doubts, the movie emperor maintained his composure, putting his phone away and turning on the computer.
The computer booted up smoothly, everything in default settings.
Lu Dingyun connected to the internet, and the default browser’s news page popped up.
Wei Yuan, ignoring everything else, took a few steps back, tilting its fluffy head to read the news.
The top headline was about the Lu Dingyun abuser accusations, which Wei Yuan ignored, its gaze fixed on the news box on the right.
[Top Star Wei Yuan’s Car Accident Update: Wei Yuan May Remain in a Vegetative State Permanently, His Family Vows to Continue Treatment at All Costs.]
Lu Dingyun was about to close the news window when he noticed the kitten staring intently at the screen. He released the mouse and leaned closer to observe the kitten’s expression.
Seeing its face, Lu Dingyun felt a pang in his chest.
The kitten, which shouldn’t have any discernible expression, looked deeply saddened.
There was a sense of hopelessness, as if all its expectations had been dashed.
Lu Dingyun was a good actor, which meant he had strong empathy.
Perhaps even more so than ordinary people, as a solitary and somewhat eccentric individual, he was particularly attuned to subtle and complex emotions.
He could fully sense the kitten’s feelings, which confused him.
How could a three-month-old kitten have such complex, human-like emotions?
What had it seen?
Lu Dingyun followed the kitten’s gaze.
Wei Yuan.
The familiar yet unfamiliar name came into view.
He knew this young master, a talented and promising junior with striking looks.
Lu Dingyun rarely used the word “beautiful” to describe a person, but Wei Yuan truly was beautiful, possessing a gender-transcending beauty.
He had met him several times at events, and each time, Wei Yuan had caught his eye.
But it wasn’t just his looks that had made an impression. It was also his personality.
He was a bright and cheerful person, albeit with a bit of a young master’s temper, but his eyes were clear, and his personality straightforward, the kind of person Lu Dingyun hadn’t encountered since becoming an adult.
Like a small animal, all his emotions were written on his face, making it hard to ignore him.
He remembered his first encounter with Wei Yuan at a cocktail party.
He had seen Wei Yuan, dressed in casual sportswear, holding a can of cola, mingling effortlessly among the celebrities and socialites.
He didn’t seem opportunistic but rather stood out from the crowd.
Such a strange and unique person. Lu Dingyun’s gaze had instinctively followed him.
Until he stood before him.
The young man had greeted him with a slightly shy smile, his ears slightly red. “Hello, Teacher Lu, I’m Wei Yuan. I’m a big fan of your work.”
Lu Dingyun rarely reacted to human enthusiasm.
But he had raised his glass, clinked it with Wei Yuan’s, and taken his first and only sip of alcohol that night.
Wei Yuan, at some point, had switched his cola for champagne, drinking it in one gulp.
And then…
The next time Lu Dingyun saw Wei Yuan, he sensed a subtle hostility and deliberate distance.
Always perceptive, Lu Dingyun, noticing the aversion, stopped paying attention.
Later, Liu Ying told him that he and Wei Yuan were rivals.
That must have been why Wei Yuan had become hostile.
But Lu Dingyun didn’t see rivalry as a negative thing. Competition fostered progress, and Wei Yuan was undoubtedly talented.
He just hadn’t expected them to be so “fated,” or rather, unfortunate, to be stalked by sasaeng fans on the same day.
But Wei Yuan hadn’t been as lucky as him.
Lu Dingyun had seen the car accident video online. Wei Yuan had handled the situation well, and in the end, only their two cars were involved, preventing a chain collision.
And he had saved everyone’s lives.
Considering the severity of the crash, the fact that all seven people, including Wei Yuan, survived was entirely thanks to Wei Yuan.
The stalkers and scalpers involved in the chase had all woken up, but Wei Yuan remained unconscious.
Now the media was reporting that he might be in a vegetative state…
When he first heard about Wei Yuan’s accident and the possibility of him not surviving, Lu Dingyun had only felt regret and sympathy.
But now, he realized his kitten seemed to be grieving for Wei Yuan.
It was absurd, but the scene before him suggested otherwise.
He looked down at the kitten again and froze.
Wei Yuan was struggling to move the mouse, trying to click on the news article.
The mouse was too sensitive, the cursor flitting around erratically, refusing to land on the article.
Wei Yuan persisted, undeterred, filled with determination.
It had been momentarily stunned, but now it understood.
Its body wasn’t dead, nor had it been taken over by a “cat.” The body in the hospital was just an empty shell.
In other words, there was a chance for Wei Yuan to return to his body!
Lu Dingyun watched the kitten playing with the mouse and chuckled, thinking he had been too sensitive.
How could a kitten grieve for a stranger?
He must have been mistaken.
Wei Yuan, gritting its teeth, finally managed to move the cursor to the article.
It eagerly clicked, and the news page expanded.
The article wasn’t long, filled with mostly filler.
Wei Yuan quickly scanned it, finding the key information in the headline.
His body was in a vegetative state. His parents and brother had consulted specialists worldwide, and the consensus was that his bodily functions were intact, and he could wake up at any time, but he might also never wake up.
All useless!
Wei Yuan wished it could send his father a dream, telling him to consult some spiritual masters.
It was clearly a case of a lost soul. A master might be able to call it back.
But it was helpless now, unless it could find a chance to email his father anonymously when Lu Dingyun wasn’t around.
That’s it!
A glimmer of hope appeared.
Wei Yuan looked at Lu Dingyun, wishing he would leave immediately so it could put its plan into action.
Why avoid Lu Dingyun?
It wasn’t stupid.
If it actually typed an email to its father, Lu Dingyun would definitely dissect it for research.
Hadn’t he seen that Movie Emperor Lu was a top student?
He had even won awards in math and physics. He might have a hidden dream of becoming a scientist.
It didn’t want to contribute to its rival’s scientific endeavors.
Lu Dingyun, puzzled by the kitten’s intense stare, asked tentatively, “Baby, do you want to watch cartoons?”
Wei Yuan almost rolled its eyes.
This young master stopped watching cartoons in middle school, okay?
But it also realized that Lu Dingyun wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
It had already wasted several days, and its body probably wouldn’t die anytime soon, so a few more days wouldn’t make a difference.
It would wait. Once Lu Dingyun started filming, it would have its chance.
Having figured this out, Wei Yuan settled down.
As for urging Lu Dingyun to livestream, it had already achieved its goal. There was no need to bother, especially since they couldn’t communicate anyway.
Lu Dingyun chuckled, looking at the suddenly listless kitten.
Was this the legendary catatonic kitten?
“Are you tired?” Lu Dingyun picked it up, opening Weibo.
Wei Yuan ignored him, adjusting its position to a more comfortable one and looking at Weibo with him.
But the kitten quickly became agitated.
It saw Lu Dingyun’s earlier post.
A bandaged, sleeping, bald cow cat. Who else could it be?
Lu Dingyun had posted such an embarrassing photo of it on Weibo?!
Didn’t kittens have any dignity?
Lu Dingyun, oblivious to the kitten’s distress, happily read the comments to it.
“Baby, look, everyone is praising your cuteness.”
Wei Yuan: “…”
Perhaps, did he know what “rose-tinted glasses” and “blind adoration” meant?
Could he please open his eyes and see that the bald kitten in his arms had nothing to do with cuteness?
Wei Yuan rolled its eyes.
Movie Emperor Lu’s refined taste must have been devoured by the kitten.
Lu Dingyun, scrolling through the comments, suddenly paused, hesitantly saying, “Dear, they say the name I gave you isn’t very nice. What do you think?”
Wei Yuan’s ears perked up, instantly alert.
It patted Lu Dingyun’s arm with its paw.
“Meow, meow!”
The public has a keen eye!
Lu Dingyun’s eyes lit up. “You think they’re wrong too? Programmer is such a cute name.”
Wei Yuan: “…”
Lu Dingyun met the kitten’s deadpan stare and couldn’t help but laugh.
“Okay, okay, it’s my fault.” He rubbed the kitten’s head. “I’ll come up with a few more cute names, and you can choose one yourself.”
Wei Yuan’s tail wagged. “Mew~”
That’s more like it.
However, it took the movie emperor almost a week to come up with new names.
Wei Yuan found itself on the operating table again, Doctor Lu in his white coat once more.
This time, the kitten felt no anxiety, only excitement.
It was finally time to have its stitches removed!
