However, it was easier said than done. No matter what Qiu Sui sent, the other side responded with delighted flirting.
At first, Qiu Sui was cautious, afraid his intentions would be exposed, testing carefully. But later, he couldn’t hold back anymore. His fingers hammered the keyboard, determined to provoke the guy into anger.
Qiu Sui: You think sending me messages every day is romantic? To me, it’s just a bunch of harassing texts.
0: Baby, you’ve been paying attention to my messages all along?
0: So happy >v<
0: Does baby replying to me first mean you like me a tiny bit more now?
0: Or has baby been secretly crushing on me without realizing it?
Qiu Sui: Are you sick?
0: Is baby worried about me?
0: So blissful (///v///)
0: I am sick.
0: Malignant Susceptible Period.
0: Need to mark you to get better.
Fuck.
Even with Qiu Sui’s good composure, he couldn’t help cursing inwardly.
With quick reflexes, he shut off the phone screen. He never wanted to see another emoticon again in his life.
“What’s wrong?” Qiao Keren saw him slam the phone face-down on the table with an indescribable expression and asked curiously.
Fresh from training, Qiu Sui’s sun-reddened cheeks hadn’t faded under the indoor AC yet. Now, flushed with frustration, they burned hotter. He slumped over his meal and grumbled, “Came across some lunatic’s post.”
Seeing Qiu Sui’s distressed look, Qiao Keren guessed the comment must’ve been gross and quickly changed the subject to distract him. “I heard tomorrow’s gala has an Omega-Alpha model show. Bodies are supposed to be killer.”
Qiu Sui wasn’t that into the gala, but an evening event meant no training, so he flashed a genuine smile. He ignored the vibrating phone and chatted with Qiao Keren instead.
It wasn’t until he was about to bike back to the dorms that he checked the Alpha’s later messages.
0: What are you chatting about with your friend? Smiling so happily.
0: Why are you ignoring me again TT
0: Baby?
That Alpha had just been in the cafeteria?
Qiu Sui read the texts, yanking his hand back from the shared e-bike’s handlebars. He stared in shock toward the cafeteria doors, a twinge of regret hitting him.
If he’d pushed a bit more back there, the guy might’ve lost his cool and shown up.
As Qiu Sui hesitated, a photo popped up in the chat.
The angle was top-down, capturing him right then—sitting on the shared e-bike, staring at his phone!
Qiu Sui stared fixedly at the photo, not yet reacting, when new messages arrived.
0: Baby, are you reading my messages? [Happy]
The other guy was watching him from upstairs right now.
The thought made Qiu Sui snap his head up, scanning the cafeteria floors through the glass walls for suspects.
The light blue glass reflected harshly in the sunlight; he could only make out a vague shadow on the second floor.
He had to be up there.
Qiu Sui’s breathing slowed unconsciously, tension coiling like he was stalking prey. He quickly dropped his gaze to the phone screen, where a new message had just landed.
0: Baby heading back to the dorms?
0: Ride slow, okay?
0: Stay safe.
Qiao Keren, waiting to start the e-bike with him, saw him still glued to his phone and patted his shoulder to remind him.
Qiu Sui swiftly pocketed the phone and turned to meet Qiao Keren’s eyes.
Oblivious, Qiao Keren checked the time. “Ready to go?”
Qiu Sui wanted to storm upstairs and catch the guy, glancing hesitantly at the cafeteria—only to spot Shen Zhixiao walking over with friends toward their shared e-bike station, heading back to the dorms too.
His urge to confront vanished in a heartbeat, his brain screaming flee.
He shoved the phone in his pocket, gripped the handlebars, and urged Qiao Keren, “Let’s go, go, go.”
His tone sounded like his tail had been run over—desperate. Qiao Keren laughed, started the e-bike, and they peeled off amid the hot wind.
They rode together briefly before the light, where Qiao Keren would turn toward the Omega Dormitory Area while Qiu Sui went straight.
At the light, Qiu Sui fidgeted anxiously, glancing back repeatedly. When he spotted Shen Zhixiao on the same model shared e-bike with a unfamiliar Alpha at the road’s end, far behind, his heart sank into the pit of his stomach.
Luckily, the light turned green. After bidding Qiao Keren goodbye, Qiu Sui gunned it, flying straight ahead like he had wheels of fire, silently praying the next light would turn red quick.
He didn’t dare look back at Shen Zhixiao’s progress, his mind consumed by terror of being caught and bumping into him at the dorms. Only at the next red light could he confirm the previous one had held them up. Gripping the handlebars, he exhaled shakily.
“Fuck—whew—”
The moment Wen Heng opened his mouth, wind blasted in at highway speeds.
Squinting ahead at his bro treating the e-bike like a race bike, he couldn’t help muttering another fuck.
What’s wrong with him? Rebellious drag-racing phase hitting college after skipping high school?
After the gripe, Wen Heng floored it to keep up, hot wind parching his skin. He yelled ahead, “Slow down, man! This ain’t safe!”
Shen Zhixiao said nothing. Spotting the back ahead at the green light, ready to go, he maxed the throttle—but at 200 meters back, he was a step late. The figure vanished around the bend.
The green flickered out in the last second; red lit up. Both stopped short.
Shen Zhixiao glared at the light, frowning with a tsk.
Wen Heng, braking behind him, heard and griped through his wind-stiffened face, “That should be my line. Chasing the wind like a kid?”
Ignoring the jab, Shen Zhixiao pulled out his phone. In the 60-second red, his fingers flew.
0: Baby, you didn’t listen to me.
0: Riding too fast is dangerous.
0: Don’t forget what I said, baby.
0: I’ll always be watching you.
0: If you’re naughty, I’ll punish you.
The light blinked red ahead. Phone screen off, it spun flexibly in Shen Zhixiao’s hand before pocketing.
Wen Heng was about to tease the poser when Shen Zhixiao twisted the throttle, rocketing off. “Rushing to reincarnate or what—”
Qiu Sui parked steadily at the shared e-bike station across from the dorms. No familiar faces in sight, his taut nerves eased.
His phone had buzzed a few times en route—texts incoming.
Striding into the A1 Dorm Building, he pulled it out, first replying to Qiu Shun to say he and Qiao Keren were safe.
Qiu Shun trained nearby and was back at the dorms already, replying fast. Qiao Keren was probably still en route, no reply yet.
Qiu Sui checked all his WeChat messages, then opened the texts.
The new ones from the Alpha yanked his heart back up. He clutched the phone, scanning around, then hurried deeper into the A1 Dorm Building.
He frowned at the last two lines.
Always watching me? Has he been tailing me?
But his focus snagged on the final message quick.
The Alpha was… pissed? Just ’cause he sped on the e-bike?
Absurdly rereading the past days’ chats—cursing got no rise, provoking got flirts—but speeding to dodge Shen Zhixiao had triggered him?
He blanked for half a second. If it’s that easy, I wouldn’t have suffered sending bait these past days, losing sleep over every reply.
Qiu Sui cautiously eyed the surroundings. The elevator lobby had a decent crowd, few entering the doors. No suspect Alphas matching the profile; he relaxed a tad, figuring the creep either hadn’t caught up or couldn’t act in daylight.
The elevator dinged at the first floor, a group piled in, emptying the waiting area. Spotting a few average Alphas his build, he was surer the psycho wasn’t there.
Relief washing over, he picked a fast-down elevator, pondering when the guy might strike next.
During training, he stuck with the group for breaks and dismissal—no lone moments for ambush.
So when would he pop up unexpectedly?
Mid-thought, the elevator ahead opened. Qiu Sui cut off, stepped in briskly, leaned by the buttons, and hit close once full.
As doors began shutting, an exuberant voice called from outside: “Wait—wait a sec…”
Qiu Sui paused, debating opening, when a hand shoved through the gap.
He jolted, slamming the open button.
The half-closed doors parted slowly, revealing the tall Alpha blocked outside.
Curious, Qiu Sui glanced up—freezing at the broad, heaving chest. He didn’t dare look higher.
“Th-thanks.”
The owner dashed in late, panting with a cheerful grin at the Beta by the door.
Qiu Sui silently pressed against the wall, head down, murmuring a soft “mm,” minimizing himself.
The car wasn’t full to start; stops at four and five floors left just five inside.
Qiu Sui figured Shen Zhixiao hadn’t clocked him. Clutching his cap, he peeked anxiously at the rising numbers.
No one for six; seven incoming.
Relief budding, a weight suddenly hit his shoulder. He flinched hard, plastering to the wall.
“Sorry…” The culprit yanked back, bending awkwardly with an unexpectedly mild smile. “It’s you? What a coincidence. Thought I had the wrong guy.”
Shen Zhixiao’s face loomed suddenly beside him. Qiu Sui nearly screamed, dodging eye contact sans manners, voice quaking. “Uh, yeah, small world.”
Wen Heng eyed them weirdly, managing, “You two know each other?”
Elevator dinged at seven—a godsend chime.
Qiu Sui mumbled sorta, raising a hand for them to let him out.
“You on seven too?” Shen Zhixiao’s eyes crinkled, smoothly grabbing his hand and pulling him out. Grinning, “Which room?”
The instant Shen Zhixiao gripped him, Qiu Sui froze—brain ping-ponging between overly friendly and assault. He yanked to free himself, failing, panic rising. He looked up fearfully along the arm.
Meeting his affronted gaze, Shen Zhixiao realized, releasing sheepishly. “Saw no reaction, so I pulled you out too.”
Qiu Sui snatched his hand back, clutching it protectively, cap mangled in his grip, heart hammering overload.
Wen Heng watched, the scene screaming bully Alpha harassing frail Beta. Hearing Shen Zhixiao pitch his voice weirdly made his eyes bulge.
Wen Heng eyed Qiu Sui’s profile from afar, brow arching.
Handsome.
Haven’t seen a Beta this fine.
Before closing in, an icy glare hit. Meeting Shen Zhixiao’s eyes, Wen Heng scoffed with a gesture: What, look at me? Want his WeChat? Ask yourself.
“…”
Qiu Sui missed the Alphas’ exchange, slumped against the wall by the doors, radiating socially anxious Beta bullied by S-Rank Alpha vibes.
When Shen Zhixiao asked about the Zhou Cunhao thing, Qiu Sui eventually recalled, saying it was fine now. Hesitant, he added, “Uh, gotta go…”
He avoided Shen Zhixiao’s eyes, addressing distant Wen Heng instead.
Friend of his—he’d get it, right?
Wen Heng caught the Beta’s signal amid the death glare from his good brother.
Between pretending not to notice or helping to let the guy slip away, he chose the latter. With a smile, he said, “Before you go, how about adding WeChat? We’ve got such a fateful encounter—might as well make friends.”
As he spoke, he shot Shen Zhixiao a sidelong glance, as if calling him a coward.
At that moment, Qiu Sui just wanted to bolt. Even though he had no desire to add them, he had no choice but to politely pull out his phone and let them scan his code.
He’d originally planned to ignore their friend requests after they sent them once he got back. But after scanning, neither man put away their phone—they kept staring intently at his screen. Clutching his device, Qiu Sui had no option but to approve them right there on the spot.
Wen Heng grinned when the friend request went through and pocketed his phone. He sauntered over and clapped Qiu Sui on the shoulder with a casual “Hey”: “We’re friends now. You already know Shen Zhixiao—I’m Wen Heng. What’s your name?”
The moment Wen Heng opened his mouth, Shen Zhixiao fell silent. Qiu Sui didn’t dare look up at him and mumbled his name in embarrassment.
Wen Heng had wanted to throw a friendly arm around his shoulders, but Shen Zhixiao’s glare was too sharp—like daggers. He withdrew his hand. “Qiu Sui, right? Let’s hang out sometime if you’re free.”
Qiu Sui nodded awkwardly and kept edging silently toward the dorm hallway. He realized their rooms weren’t in the same direction as his once they exited the elevator lobby. Relief washed over him in an instant.
Having successfully parted ways with them, his legs nearly gave out. He touched the still-warm new WeChat friend in his contacts and felt like his life was over.
