Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

Chapter 25: The Little Ghost Boldly Climbs into Bed

A corner of the blanket floated motionless in mid-air.

Song Yaoyao held his breath, maintaining the pose of lifting the blanket corner. He steadied himself and sneakily turned his head to observe Xie Ningwan.

Xie Ningwan had his eyes closed, lying quietly on his back without looking at him. That earlier sentence seemed like it hadn’t come from him at all.

He was bluffing again. Song Yaoyao pursed his lips.

He waited a moment, then slowly pulled back the blanket corner again and slipped inside.

“Song Yaoyao,” the person on the bed sighed softly. His low voice was rich and clear in the darkness, carrying a hint of helplessness. “Didn’t I tell you? Don’t attack the person in the bed.”

He was tricking him again!

That night, Song Yaoyao had been caught too suddenly and too nervously, so he’d been fooled by Xie Ningwan’s words. The next day, he realized the truth.

From the start, the System had said he needed physical contact and intimate contact with Xie Ningwan. If even sharing a blanket at night wasn’t allowed, how could there be those… those more intimate contacts?

Song Yaoyao huffed in dissatisfaction, ignoring Xie Ningwan’s words. Since he’d already been discovered, he directly flung the blanket open and burrowed inside.

Xie Ningwan only felt a faint cool breeze slip through the blanket’s gap, chilly and ethereal as it snuggled up beside him.

He slightly lifted his eyes and glanced at his side.

He was playing dirty now. Not so easy to fool anymore.

“Do you have something else you haven’t told me?” Xie Ningwan propped himself up halfway and asked.

For example, why he always had to stick so close.

Song Yaoyao didn’t speak.

He pretended to be asleep already, giving no response, and even secretly tucked in the blanket for both himself and Xie Ningwan.

What a rogue and shameless little ghost.

Xie Ningwan rubbed his forehead, helpless against him.

The next day, Song Yaoyao followed Xie Ningwan to the company again.

Xie Ningwan held the Little Bear Doll in his hand, while Song Yaoyao sprawled on Xie Ningwan’s back.

At the office door, Assistant Lei stood guard. When he saw the bear in Xie Ningwan’s hand, he paused slightly.

President Xie had been bringing this doll to work lately, for some reason.

But he didn’t ask, simply delivering the coffee and the files needing attention into the office. “President Xie.”

Xie Ningwan sat down at his desk. “Mm, just put it there.”

The Little Bear Doll’s true owner, Song Yaoyao, yawned on Xie Ningwan’s shoulder.

After Assistant Lei left the office, Xie Ningwan habitually picked up the coffee. As he brought it to his lips, he suddenly looked at the bear on the desk and raised his cup. “Want some?”

He remembered the little ghost sneaking a sip of his coffee last time.

Song Yaoyao poked the bear’s head, and it shook side to side: No.

Xie Ningwan: “Milk?”

The bear nodded.

Xie Ningwan set down the coffee cup and called for someone to bring a cup of milk and a snack.

Song Yaoyao was very satisfied. He hugged the toy bear, sat across from Xie Ningwan, and enjoyed his morning tea.

Xie Ningwan immersed himself in work. Occasionally lifting his head, he glimpsed a bite missing from the little cake on the opposite plate. It really felt a bit like he was raising a child.

Song Yaoyao ate half the cake, then sipped the milk cup slowly. Seeing Xie Ningwan working seriously, he suddenly thought of something.

He set down the milk cup, pocketed the remaining half cake, and floated out the office door.

In the floor’s public restroom, staff came and went occasionally. Song Yaoyao hid in a corner, seizing a moment when it was empty, and quickly darted inside.

“Who are you!”

Mop Head and Skinny Bamboo Pole suddenly lunged from the dark corner, surrounding him menacingly.

“It’s me.” Song Yaoyao looked up to show his face. “I’m Song Yaoyao.”

“You again, you escaped bad ghost,” Mop Head leaned in close, staring at Song Yaoyao. “Don’t tell me you didn’t bring your ID this time either?”

“I’m not a bad ghost.” Song Yaoyao pulled out the half-eaten cake from behind him, looking innocent. “Look, I told you I’m the break room ghost. I brought you cake to eat.”

Mop Head and Skinny Bamboo Pole looked him over carefully, then at the cake in his hand. Surprise flashed in their eyes, mixed with suspicion. They exchanged glances, tempted.

A moment later, Mop Head couldn’t resist and took the cake, though his tone still held distrust. “No courtesy without a reason. What do you want?”

Song Yaoyao quietly exhaled and stated his purpose. “I’m really not a bad ghost. I just want to ask you one question.”

Skinny Bamboo Pole had already started eating the cake, his attitude softening. “Go ahead.”

Song Yaoyao: “Us ghosts… we can’t attack people hiding in bed?”

Though Song Yaoyao no longer believed it, he still wanted confirmation from these authoritative ghosts.

“…” Hearing this, Mop Head and Skinny Bamboo Pole exchanged another glance.

Mop Head couldn’t help asking, “Have you also heard something like—can’t attack people digging in their ears?”

Song Yaoyao blinked in confusion. “…”

The two big ghosts burst into laughter.

Song Yaoyao now fully understood he’d been tricked. He’d asked for nothing, and now the ghosts were laughing at him. His ear tips reddened as he pursed his lips and turned to head back to the office.

“But why are you asking that?” Skinny Bamboo Pole suddenly asked, puzzled.

Mop Head reacted. He shrieked, “He’s going to attack someone! He really is a bad ghost!”

“Grab him!” The two ghosts suddenly closed in on him.

“Aaah—” Song Yaoyao was startled by their sudden turn, fleeing as fast as last time.

He floated straight back to the office and crashed into Xie Ningwan, hugging him tightly.

In the restroom, after Song Yaoyao fled, Mop Head angrily took a bite of cake. “He looks like such a cute ghost, but he’s really a bad one. Attacking humans— the worst kind of ghost.”

“But…” Skinny Bamboo Pole sniffed carefully between the cake’s aroma and the restroom’s unique smell, hesitating. “He smells just like President Xie.”

Meanwhile, Song Yaoyao clung to Xie Ningwan and didn’t dare pass the restroom again for a long while.

He buried his face in Xie Ningwan’s shoulder, calming down a bit. Then he heard Xie Ningwan call him. “Song Yaoyao.”

“Mm?” Song Yaoyao responded, sliding off him, circling the desk, and touching the bear.

Xie Ningwan looked at the bear. “Was what I gave you not enough? You went to the break room again?”

“No.” The bear shook its head.

Xie Ningwan said nothing more, lowering his eyes to continue working.

So strange.

Song Yaoyao sat in the swivel chair, watching Xie Ningwan work intently.

Besides sticking to Xie Ningwan to absorb fortune, he felt like he should do something else.

He sensed he wasn’t far from turning back human. Once he did, he’d definitely have to go back to school.

He just didn’t know how the System would arrange his identity then…

【I want to read books.】 He pulled out a notepad and pen from the little pocket on the Little Bear Doll’s chest, wrote a note, and pushed it to Xie Ningwan at the other end of the desk, making his request.

Xie Ningwan paused amid the pile of files, without any displeasure at the interruption.

He took the note, read the words, and guessed the little ghost was bored. He offered proactively, “Want a storybook? Or I can have my secretary bring a tablet—you can watch TV here.”

“…” Song Yaoyao drew a breath, puffing his cheeks.

In this man’s eyes, all he did was eat, drink, play, and watch TV?

But… hearing the option, Song Yaoyao hated to admit he’d hesitated over it.

The bear shook its head, reluctantly giving up cartoons.

【I want to read study books.】 Song Yaoyao wrote firmly.

Xie Ningwan paused this time.

Last time he’d communicated with Song Yaoyao, he’d already asked some basic info and knew the little ghost was just an eighteen-year-old kid. If not a little ghost, he should still be in school.

Song Yaoyao transmigrated into a book. However, unlike others who transmigrated, his soul got sucked into the book, and he became a little ghost. The System said that every world's protagonist had fortune. As long as Song Yaoyao absorbed enough fortune from the protagonist, he could return to human form. Song Yaoyao: “Then how can I obtain fortune from the protagonist?” System: “Including but not limited to touching items the protagonist has touched, physical contact, body fluid exchange—for example, holding hands, hugging, kissing…” Song Yaoyao blushed all the way to the tips of his ears: “!” - Xie Ningwan recently noticed something off. It seemed a little ghost had quietly slipped into his house. For instance, the ice cream that vanished from the fridge, the storybook in the study that fell open halfway through, the TV that inexplicably turned on by itself and started playing SpongeBob SquarePants. This little ghost was also a little pervert. For example, it always stole his personal items, seemingly accidentally brushed against his hand, lingered at the bathroom door while he showered, and later even progressed to wanting to climb into his bed! Xie Ningwan: “……” - In order to absorb fortune, Song Yaoyao sneaked onto Xie Ningwan's bed in the middle of the night. Xie Ningwan: “You fouled. According to your ghost realm rules, you can't attack people in the bed.” Song Yaoyao, who was a ghost for the first time, half-believed it: “Is there such a rule?” - Later one night, Xie Ningwan lay with his eyes closed in light sleep when suddenly his embrace sank without warning. A naked youth with soft hair appeared under the covers. Having successfully returned to human form, Song Yaoyao buried his head under the blanket and tried his best to burrow deeper into the bedding, attempting to escape from under someone's palm. “Don't attack the person in the bed!” “This doesn't count anymore.” Xie Ningwan yanked the blanket off him.
