Song Yaoyao opened his eyes wide when Xie Ningwan turned his head, wanting to dodge, but it was already too late. He pecked Xie Ningwan right on the lips.
……
A warm, soft sensation came, accompanied by Xie Ningwan’s breath. A mushroom cloud exploded in Song Yaoyao’s head.
He didn’t dare move for a moment, maintaining that position for a bit. His mind blank, he gently pulled back.
At that moment, Xie Ningwan seemed to notice something, and his eyelashes fluttered. Song Yaoyao panicked and floated up abruptly, bouncing to the ceiling.
He stuck to the ceiling and looked down nervously, his heart racing.
Fortunately, Xie Ningwan didn’t wake up.
Song Yaoyao hugged the chandelier, sat on it, and took a few breaths to slowly calm his emotions. He pursed his lips.
The lingering sensation from that touch remained on his lips, and the tips of Song Yaoyao’s ears turned red.
Although he had accidentally brushed against Xie Ningwan once last time while drinking champagne, it hadn’t been as direct as this, and the feeling hadn’t been so clear.
Nothing happened. It was just an accident this time. Song Yaoyao patted himself, comforting himself.
Besides, he had no physical form right now. Even if he kissed Xie Ningwan once, or many times, it didn’t count as a real kiss from him!
Yeah, that was it.
Once he calmed down, Song Yaoyao began to observe the changes that the accidental kiss had brought him.
He stretched out his hand and looked closely, discovering that his transparent hand was emitting a faint, ethereal glow. It was very dim and not obvious in the bedroom illuminated faintly by moonlight.
Song Yaoyao stretched his arms in surprise, then his legs.
It really worked!
He completely forgot his earlier tension and panic, curiously examining himself. But that light was very faint. Before long, it flickered once and slowly dissipated.
Song Yaoyao lifted his hand and pinched his cheek. He couldn’t feel any change yet, but he knew he had definitely absorbed some of Xie Ningwan’s fortune.
Emboldened, Song Yaoyao grew a bit braver. He sat on the chandelier and looked down. Xie Ningwan was still sleeping soundly, so he floated down again, lifted the blanket, burrowed inside, and lay on top of him to sleep.
Before sleeping, Song Yaoyao tilted his head up and gently rubbed his lips against Xie Ningwan’s face as well. Then, satisfied, he hugged Xie Ningwan’s neck and fell asleep.
……
That night, Song Yaoyao dreamed again.
In the dream, he had already turned back into a human and had a super huge cake with countless layers. He couldn’t even see the topmost layer when he looked up.
He happily prepared to fly to the very top to start eating, but he couldn’t fly anymore. He jumped twice and landed back in place futilely.
Song Yaoyao grew a little anxious. He really couldn’t float up, so in the end, he took a bite from the edge of the layer he could reach.
……
Song Yaoyao bit down on Xie Ningwan’s chin.
“……” Xie Ningwan frowned and tilted his head back. He slightly opened his eyes and looked toward his embrace.
There was no one in his arms, yet he felt a weight.
Was he dreaming again?
Dreaming of the Little Ghost again.
No.
Xie Ningwan sobered up, touched his faintly aching jaw, propped himself up slightly with one hand on the pillow, and turned his head to look beside him.
An invisible little shadow slept under the blanket, propping it up into a small bulge.
Xie Ningwan stared at that small bulge for a moment and sighed. Sure enough, he shouldn’t have believed this rogue Little Ghost would obediently go back to his own room to sleep.
“Song Yaoyao.” Xie Ningwan spoke, breaking the quiet darkness in the bedroom.
The small bulge didn’t move. The little shadow inside slept soundly.
Xie Ningwan spoke again in a calm tone: “Song Yaoyao.”
In Song Yaoyao’s dream, the huge cake he had bitten suddenly vanished. He anxiously spun in circles, searching everywhere.
At that moment, he heard Xie Ningwan’s voice calling his name, saying—
“Song Yaoyao, I bought you a cake.” Xie Ningwan looked at the bulge and said.
“……Ah, really?” The bulge moved, and the little shadow lifted the blanket a bit. A soft, sleepy voice came from inside, not fully awake.
Xie Ningwan was nearly amused. He reached out, grabbed the little shadow, and pulled Song Yaoyao out of the blanket.
Song Yaoyao was still groggy from sleep. After being yanked out, he looked around for the cake, realized he was still on Xie Ningwan’s bed, and that it was still dark outside. Only then did he belatedly become aware of his situation.
He looked up slightly and observed Xie Ningwan’s expression.
Xie Ningwan leaned against the headboard, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Song Yaoyao shrank back into the blanket like a little turtle and didn’t move.
“You have your own room. Go back to your room to sleep.” Xie Ningwan said.
Song Yaoyao didn’t speak. Anyway, Xie Ningwan still couldn’t see him right now. Even if he grabbed him, there was nothing he could do, and he couldn’t chase him away.
He was really getting more and more bold, taking liberties.
Xie Ningwan looked at the small bundle with amusement, sighed several times, and in the end, said nothing more.
He lay down, pulled the blanket over properly, and continued sleeping. Song Yaoyao sensed his softened attitude, released his secret grip on the blanket corner, and snuggled closer to his side.
Xie Ningwan felt the cool little ghost soul drawing near and closed his eyes.
.
The next morning, after Xie Ningwan got up, he stood at the sink washing up.
Song Yaoyao woke up too and floated over for a look before preparing to head downstairs first. Last night, Xie Ningwan had seen through his trick and ordered him to bring the Little Bear Doll today. Song Yaoyao had to go to the balcony first to retrieve the Little Bear Doll.
As Song Yaoyao floated past behind Xie Ningwan, Xie Ningwan glanced up at the mirror in front of him. A blurry, light shadow suddenly drifted across it.
“Song Yaoyao?” Xie Ningwan was caught off guard and startled a bit.
“Hm?” Song Yaoyao stopped and turned back.
Xie Ningwan turned around and looked toward where the sound came from, but with the naked eye, he couldn’t see Song Yaoyao’s figure.
Xie Ningwan: “Come here.”
Song Yaoyao floated over puzzled, arriving in front of the mirror.
A small, blurry, white misty shadow appeared just like that in front of the mirror, like a standard little ghost.
“Ah, there’s a ghost!” Song Yaoyao scared himself and retreated repeatedly.
“……That’s you.” Xie Ningwan didn’t know whether to laugh or get annoyed.
Song Yaoyao hesitantly opened his eyes, realized, and slowly looked into the mirror. He waved his hand, and the faint white little ghost in the mirror waved back.
“It really seems like me.” Song Yaoyao said in wonder.
“Yeah,” Xie Ningwan looked at him through the mirror and asked, “What’s going on?”
What’s going on……
He had gotten stronger again! Those two kisses on Xie Ningwan yesterday had worked.
“At first, you were just an invisible, intangible, inaudible transparent little shadow. Gradually, you could speak, be touched by me, and now you’ve shown a bit of a shadow that can be captured in the mirror……” Xie Ningwan analyzed.
Song Yaoyao worried he would guess it was because he’d been staying by his side absorbing his fortune, making his power grow stronger and stronger. He was about to play innocent to dodge when Xie Ningwan changed the subject instead.
“Are you coming to the company with me today?”
The little ghost in the mirror nodded.
“Good,” Xie Ningwan said. “Then today, you need to avoid mirrors as much as possible.”
On the way to the company, Xie Ningwan still held Song Yaoyao’s hand with one hand while holding the Little Bear Doll with the other.
Song Yaoyao floated along for a few steps, then didn’t want to move anymore. He let go of Xie Ningwan’s hand, pounced onto his back, and hugged his neck.
Xie Ningwan was already used to it and let him cling to his back as he walked.
At the company, Xie Ningwan had to attend a morning meeting and left Song Yaoyao, the lone little ghost, in the office.
Song Yaoyao nestled on the sofa, hugging the Little Bear Doll, eating the breakfast the assistant brought, drinking milk, and watching cartoons on the tablet Xie Ningwan had given him on the coffee table.
He was watching happily when the office door was suddenly pushed open.
Besides Xie Ningwan himself, everyone else knocked before entering his office, so Song Yaoyao had no guard up and continued watching the tablet.
At the door, a secretary came to deliver documents. Knowing President Xie was in a meeting and the office empty, she pushed the door open directly, planning to place the documents on Xie Ningwan’s desk and leave.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she opened the door, she noticed the tablet on the guest coffee table playing a video.
Did President Xie forget to turn it off before leaving?
The secretary walked closer and saw breakfast placed beside the tablet, with a Little Bear Doll sitting on the sofa. At first glance, it looked like the Little Bear Doll was watching videos and eating breakfast.
Who would’ve thought President Xie had such a childlike side? The secretary thought to herself and stepped forward to turn off the tablet for him.
She reached the coffee table, turned off the screen, and then noticed something off. She turned her head and saw the Little Bear Doll on the sofa seemed to move a little.
Just as she thought she’d seen wrong and looked back, she caught sight in the now-dark tablet screen of a blurry white little shadow reflected beside the Little Bear Doll!
“Ah!” The secretary was startled and let out a sharp cry.
Song Yaoyao was the one truly scared this time. He sat frozen on the sofa, hugging the Little Bear Doll, not daring to move.
“What’s wrong?” Just then, Xie Ningwan’s voice sounded at the door.
“P-President Xie,” the secretary took a few steps toward the door, her tone laced with fear. “I……”
She hesitated, suspecting she’d seen wrong. Freaking out like this and blurting something strange would displease President Xie.
“I must have been seeing things. I thought the doll bear on the sofa moved a bit. Sorry, President Xie.”
“It’s fine.” Xie Ningwan’s gaze swept over the sofa, and he calmly nodded to her, signaling she could leave.
The secretary still had some lingering doubt in her eyes but suppressed it. “Then I’ll go now, President Xie. The documents are on your desk.”
“Good.”
The secretary left and closed the office door. Xie Ningwan faced the Little Bear on the sofa and said: “Doesn’t it look like me?”
The Little Bear Song Yaoyao was confused: “Like what?”
Xie Ningwan: “Like how I was at first when you were teasing me—suspecting I was seeing things, my nerves frayed.”
“I wasn’t teasing you.” Song Yaoyao muttered, dissatisfied with the rebuttal.
On the contrary, Xie Ningwan was the one always teasing him, the bad guy.
This was the first time besides Xie Ningwan that someone else had noticed him when he wasn’t deliberately scaring them. Song Yaoyao’s emotions were a bit mixed, not great. Xie Ningwan walked to the sofa and sat down. Song Yaoyao set aside the Little Bear Doll and floated over to hug his neck.
Xie Ningwan reached out and turned the cartoon back on for him.
