Chapter 10
When Shi Changyuan returned to the little flower demon, the rain was already heavy. Lin Ling had found some wooden boards, stones, and waterproof cloth from somewhere and built a small rain shelter for his main body.
The main body of the little flower wasn’t big, and it happened to be leaning against the high wall of the human base. Lin Ling only needed to place wooden boards on both sides and waterproof cloth on top to safely weather any rainy season.
“Okay, I’ve set up the rain shelter, you should go back too,” Lin Ling said to the Abyss in front of him, wearing his straw hat, which was almost soaked through.
“After returning to your main body, you can sleep until the rain stops. It’s very uncomfortable for a human form to be caught in the rain.” Lin Ling looked at Shi Changyuan, who was still following him, reached out and hugged him, reassuring him.
“I’ll come find you after the rain stops!”
Neither the Abyss nor Little Flower’s main bodies were warm-blooded creatures, so there was no risk of hypothermia, but their human forms were. Although it wouldn’t lead to death, it was, as Lin Ling said, very uncomfortable.
Before the storm came, the Abyss didn’t think there was any difference between himself and Little Flower compared to humans, but after the storm arrived, he found that the human base was a good place, able to withstand most of the harsh weather.
The Abyss just looked at the sky, then shook his head at the little flower demon, and said, “Ling Ling, the heavy rain will last for half a month.”
“This place will be flooded.”
Lin Ling, who had just returned to his main body, was startled by this news, his petals curling up.
“Then what should we do? Do I need to move?” The little flower demon frowned. Half a month of heavy rain, there would definitely be a flood, maybe even a landslide.
“Mm, we need to go to a higher place, or into the Abyss.” Shi Changyuan squatted down in the rain, trying to look at the short little flower at eye level, “Ling Ling might need to stay in a flowerpot for a while.”
The little flower huddled in the rain shelter quickly grew vines, dragging a small shovel out from a corner. “Okay, then I’ll transform back and move my roots.”
Moving roots was a time-consuming and energy-intensive task. If not careful, a little flower demon like Lin Ling, losing a main root, would be equivalent to suffering a serious injury. And the little flower’s roots weren’t as thick and obvious as other tree demons’ roots.
But Lin Ling’s movement was stopped by a single finger from Shi Changyuan. “I’ll do it.”
Then, the shadow cast by Shi Changyuan’s fingertip burrowed into the soil, devouring all the soil around the little flower’s roots, carefully avoiding every inch and every millimeter of the little flower’s root system.
Shi Changyuan gently pinched the little flower’s stem and pulled upwards. All of its roots were pulled out intact.
Then, with a “bang,” the small patch of land where the little flower was rooted, along with the rain shelter, collapsed into a small pit.
“Wow—” The little flower demon, who had never seen such a scene, was very impressed.
The Abyss took out a flowerpot, which looked quite old, like a very rare antique, and planted the little flower in it. He even picked up the shovel, intending to cover its roots with some soil, and finally took out a glass cover and placed it over the little flower.
Lin Ling had never met anyone more considerate.
He sat in the flowerpot prepared for him by the Abyss, watching Shi Changyuan move him in the rain, and with such care, he suddenly didn’t know what to say.
Lin Ling transformed back into his human form, pulled his waterproof cloth out of the pit, shook it, and covered both of them with it.
The two huddled together under the waterproof cloth. The heavy rain outside seemed to isolate the entire world. They could only feel each other’s body temperature and breath, their limbs gradually warming up.
“So where are we going?” Lin Ling asked.
“To the human base first.”
After saying that, Shi Changyuan took the little flower demon and teleported a few times, arriving inside the largest building of the human base.
Almost instantly, Lin Ling felt his body temperature rising. The human building sheltered them from the wind and rain.
Shi Changyuan watched as Lin Ling threw off the waterproof cloth from his head, no longer needing to hide from the natural disaster or worry about it. He suddenly wanted to do something.
But before he could figure it out, a terrified scream came from behind them.
“Ahhhhh—”
The two froze and looked back, seeing a yellow-haired young man shrieking and tremblingly hiding behind a table.
“Y-you!”
The yellow-haired young man was too nervous to speak, staring at the two people in front of him, repeatedly pressing the emergency button on his communicator.
“Help! Help me, I’ve run into the Abyss head-on, help, help—”
The other end of the walkie-talkie responded almost instantly, “What? Where did you encounter the Abyss? Where’s Little Flower? Is Little Flower with him?”
“It… it seems to be… at… at…”
“Here.”
A voice with a rising intonation appeared above the yellow-haired young man’s head, answering the message for him.
“Don’t worry, we’re just here to take shelter from the rain, we bumped into him by accident.” Lin Ling looked at the timid yellow-haired young man, then at Shi Changyuan, who was holding the flowerpot not far away, and said with certainty, “Don’t worry, Sister Mo, there won’t be a fight.”
After the little flower demon finished speaking, the person on the other end of the communicator changed to Team Leader Mo.
“As long as Little Flower is there, we’re not worried,” Team Leader Mo took the initiative to send a friendly signal. “Anyway, there are no ordinary citizens in the base, so feel free to do as you please. Most of the things in the base are available for use.”
“Mm-hmm, thank you, Sister Mo!”
After finishing the call, Lin Ling hung up, gave a strange look at the young man in front of him, who was trembling despite not being rained on, and happily returned to Shi Changyuan’s side.
“Sister Mo said we can stay as long as we want.”
Shi Changyuan nodded, then found a towel and a set of dry clothes from the things he had devoured and handed them to Lin Ling. “We won’t stay long, just until the rain stops.”
Lin Ling took the towel and clothes and looked at Shi Changyuan, “Don’t you need them?”
“Mm.” While the Abyss was answering, the moisture in his clothes and hair was instantly devoured, better than any dryer.
Of course, this ability could also be used on the little flower demon, but Shi Changyuan had a little selfish motive.
The clothes he gave the little flower demon were made before the apocalypse. Whether it was comfort or design, they were hundreds of times better than the clothes made after the apocalypse.
The little flower demon changed into the exquisite white lace shirt and instantly looked like a little prince from a fairy tale.
Looking at the little flower dressed like this, Shi Changyuan felt that this was how his seed should be.
The yellow-haired young man not far away was the youngest of the vanguard team and had never seen the Abyss before. Seeing the man’s ability, his face was full of amazement, his eyes filled with unconcealed admiration.
“So amazing!” The yellow-haired young man spoke weakly, trying to attract their attention, but the little flower demon was twirling around to show the Abyss his clothes, and Shi Changyuan didn’t spare him a single glance.
“L-Little Flower,” the yellow-haired young man called out boldly, “Sister Mo assigned me a task, she wants me to gather some information.”
Remembering what Sister Mo had said about sincerity, the yellow-haired young man immediately decided to be genuinely sincere with the sweet couple over there.
“I can trade supplies with you!” The yellow-haired young man offered up treasures, pulling out a game console and various candies from his bag.
“Th-this game console has been modified by me, it’s solar-powered and doesn’t need electricity. I’ve downloaded over a thousand different games, as well as novels and songs…”
The little flower demon looked at those things, his face full of interest.
Shi Changyuan raised a hand, a black shadow flashed, and the game console and candies in the yellow-haired young man’s hand immediately disappeared.
The next second, those things appeared in Little Flower’s arms.
“This rainstorm will last for half a month. This should be very important information for you.”
Shi Changyuan only glanced at the yellow-haired young man before returning his gaze to Little Flower.
Although the yellow-haired young man was young, he knew that this information was indeed extremely important.
After the apocalypse arrived, humans had built nine bases. Most of the bases were built on plains, near mountains and rivers, or on flat terrain. The previous rainstorm, which only lasted for three to five days, had caused heavy losses to some bases.
If it rained continuously for half a month, the consequences would be unimaginable—
The yellow-haired young man quickly grabbed the communicator and reported this news.
“Then what will you do when the flood comes later?” Lin Ling looked at the anxious human, then at the Abyss, which was a giant pit.
The Abyss, this large pit, being the lowest point of the terrain, would naturally attract the floodwaters.
The little flower demon imagined the scene and became worried. He looked up and asked,
“Won’t you be filled with floodwater and become a lake?”
“Then will you have to change your name, from Abyss to Deep Lake?”
