Chapter 17
“What’s wrong?”
Little Flower finished his cupcake in a few bites and reached out to take the Abyss’s hand, but for some reason, Shi Changyuan was stiff all over, as if he was still in shock from some fright.
Little Flower looked at the shady shop behind the Abyss, then back at the Abyss, and his fur bristled. “Did that shady shop bully you?!”
“I knew it! Humans always like to bully newcomers who don’t know anything!” Little Flower rolled up his sleeves, ready to charge forward. “I’ll teach them a lesson!”
But before Lin Ling could even take a step, the Abyss pulled him back.
“No.”
The Abyss was a bit flustered, trying to cover up the incident, but Little Flower wasn’t so easily fooled.
Pulling Shi Changyuan back, he comforted him, “It’s normal for the Abyss, being new here, to be tricked by those cunning humans. Whether you’re a person, a flower, or an abyss, who hasn’t been fooled before? Even a clever little flower like me has been tricked, but we can’t let them take advantage of us.”
“If reasoning doesn’t work, we can always resort to force. There are two of us, at least!”
“I wasn’t tricked.” Seeing Little Flower sticking up for him, the Abyss felt touched and tried to explain to Lin Ling, “…It’s just that the shop wasn’t very…appropriate.”
The Abyss thought for a moment, then summarized it in Little Flower’s terms, “They spread evil knowledge.”
Lin Ling froze, then immediately understood. He turned around, still holding the Abyss’s hand, and headed towards the city exit.
Why were humans spreading this kind of stuff everywhere?
It was impossible to guard against!
The base’s higher-ups watched as the Abyss and Little Flower left the base, overjoyed.
Little Flower thought the matter was over, but unexpectedly, a few days later, the humans came again in a helicopter, airdropping a package!
The humans dropped a huge box. The first small box inside contained the button batteries Lin Ling had been longing for. But Little Flower was still sound asleep, so the Abyss opened the second box.
Inside the second box were some strange books, beginning with large blocks of text in both Chinese and English. They looked like product manuals, but not quite as formal.
He casually flipped through the pages as he took out the items beneath the manual. The Abyss didn’t realize what was happening until he felt something fluffy—
Shi Changyuan looked down. Some very familiar items entered his vision, the clothes and accessories from the tailor shop.
The only difference was that they had been just drawings before, but in just a few days, the humans had already made them.
It was a set of white fox ears and a tail. After the apocalypse, even fox tails had mutated to become bigger, longer, or even multiple tails. This was the first time Shi Changyuan had seen a fox tail as humans envisioned it.
Fluffy, not too long, and somewhat round.
Besides these, there were a few other garments. The first few were relatively modest, but the further down he went, the less fabric there was. Presumably, the humans knew these items weren’t suitable for public display, so they hid them underneath. The last item barely covered anything, with only a few chains adorning various body parts.
Initially, Shi Changyuan had no idea what these things were, until he turned two pages of the manual and illustrations suddenly appeared, demonstrating how to use the items, where to attach them, and what effects they would have—
Almost instantly, those items became like hot potatoes, the scorching heat spreading from his palms throughout his body.
The Abyss looked at the hand that had just held the tail, thinking that this hand was probably unusable now, otherwise Little Flower wouldn’t want him, the entire Abyss, anymore.
He immediately bundled up those indecent items and threw them into the deepest corner of his space.
“You’re here?” Little Flower seemed to have woken up. Seeing Shi Changyuan, he rushed over excitedly and expertly clung to him.
“Mm…” Shi Changyuan was stiff all over. He subconsciously wanted to hold Little Flower to prevent him from falling, but as soon as his hand reached Little Flower’s waist, his mind uncontrollably thought, So slender.
Even more slender than in the drawings…
He could almost encircle it with both hands.
The Abyss hurriedly withdrew his hand. Little Flower instantly lost his support and was about to slide down when Shi Changyuan instinctively caught Lin Ling’s thighs.
Soft flesh almost slipped through his fingers, every contour and curve distinctly felt in his palm.
It felt like something should be tied there, to bind that soft flesh.
The Abyss’s hand suddenly let go, almost causing Little Flower to fall on his butt, instantly waking him up.
“Why did you drop me?!”
Shi Changyuan looked down at the angry Little Flower sitting on the ground, looking up at him. His gaze involuntarily shifted from those beautiful eyes to the pink lips that opened and closed.
He recalled the descriptions in those books, like bright red petals, wondering if they would really release their essence when bruised, creating a gradient of colors.
But as Shi Changyuan bent down and his finger just grazed Little Flower’s lips, he stopped himself.
He suddenly realized this was wrong, but he didn’t know how to explain it to Little Flower.
“My fault.” Shi Changyuan apologized sincerely, pulling Little Flower up from the ground. “I… I was distracted for a moment.”
“Okay.” Little Flower, having received an explanation, immediately forgave him.
After all, they were family, they should be tolerant of each other!
“The humans sent batteries for Little Flower.” Seeing that the matter was over, Shi Changyuan quickly changed the subject, handing the box airdropped by the humans to Lin Ling.
Lin Ling opened the box. Inside were neatly arranged button batteries, and there seemed to be a solar-powered charging device as well.
“Wow!” Lin Ling took the batteries and happily installed them in his long-awaited star lights. Instantly, the entire Abyss became much more dreamlike.
“Eh, there’s a letter here too.” Little Flower emptied the box and found a letter at the bottom, sent by Mo Cheng.
[To Little Flower and Abyss]
Lin Ling understood. It meant they had to open it together.
He pulled Shi Changyuan to the sofa, had him sit down first, then sat on his lap, leaning back. The two of them nestled perfectly together on the small single-seater sofa.
Little Flower didn’t notice that the sofa cushion was stiffer than usual today. He just held the letter and said, “Come and see, this is the first time we’ve received a letter!”
“…Okay.”
The Abyss’s voice seemed a bit hoarse, perhaps even he didn’t know why. He just felt inexplicably parched and restless.
In the letter, Mo Cheng sent her greetings, mentioned their previous visit to the human base, asked if they had a good time, and said that the humans had prepared some small gifts for them. As for the cupcakes Little Flower liked, there was a risk of damage during the airdrop, so she invited Little Flower to come to the base to enjoy fresh ones.
“Wow, they’re such kind humans!” Lin Ling looked at the contents of the letter, his mind full of cupcakes.
Meanwhile, the Abyss cushion behind him, thinking of the other box, snorted, “Shameless humans.”
The letter also mentioned that they could be granted human base identification and provided with some supplies, such as Alliance Credits for Little Flower to buy cakes, and a small villa near the human base for the two of them.
Mo Cheng said that although she knew what the Abyss was like, they could also try living in a human house for the experience. She even described in detail the lighting of the house, along with a large sunroom and a beautiful terrace with a swing.
Little Flower: Intensely tempted!!!
Abyss: Hmph, human tricks.
“What do you think?” Although Little Flower was very tempted, he still democratically sought the opinion of every family member.
“I don’t think it’s necessary.”
The Abyss flatly refused the humans’ offer.
His Abyss was bigger than any human residence, and much more spacious. He remembered there was a castle in one of the spaces, wasn’t that bigger than a villa?
If they wanted sunlight, he could just swallow a sun—
“Why?”
Little Flower tried to turn around to face Shi Changyuan, but the Abyss immediately held him still.
“Okay, I agree.”
Shi Changyuan immediately changed his mind.
He had just overlooked a problem. His Abyss was indeed very good, but they didn’t have much furniture, and most of it was single-seater sofas and chairs. Even the beds were joined together, with half of the space occupied by plushies.
This meant that Little Flower was almost always pressed against him.
He used to like it, but recently he had become strange. Before the Abyss figured out why he had become so strange, and resolved it, perhaps moving to the house prepared by the humans could divert Little Flower’s attention a little.
So, Little Flower and the Abyss, each with their own plans, readily agreed to the humans’ proposal.
The villa Mo Cheng prepared for them was near the Seventh Base. When they moved in, Little Flower found that the Seventh Base seemed to be bustling again, with some familiar humans moving back.
“Caw, Little Flower, you’ve moved back too?”
The three-headed parrot stood on a distant branch, watching Little Flower move into the large villa, and called out to Lin Ling in its loud voice.
“Yes,” Lin Ling seemed very happy as well. “We’re neighbors again.”
“And my familiar human friends too!”
Although the humans had left without saying goodbye before, the forgiving Little Flower decided that if they were willing to give him cupcakes, he could forgive them.
“Come on, let me introduce you to my former friends!”
Little Flower pulled Shi Changyuan and rushed to the gate of the base. Sure enough, the guards on duty were familiar faces.
“You’re really back?”
Little Flower greeted them enthusiastically.
“It’s Lin Ling, you’re back too?” The guard didn’t know Little Flower’s true identity, assuming he was a resident of the area.
“Yes, yes, yes, and I brought a friend back with me!” Little Flower said, and raised the hand he was holding with the Abyss, wanting to show the guard.
The guard looked at their joined hands, paused, hesitant, but then looked again, and seemed certain. He scratched his head. “Then, congratulations?”
Little Flower froze, looking at each other in confusion.
Congratulations on what?
I find the interference of humans a little uncomfortable… :/
Yeah, but in their perspective they’re just trying to make them happy so abyss doesn’t swallow them lol
