Even the Abyss Wants a Wife 4

Chapter 4

The very next day, just as dawn broke, the little flower demon was already skipping through the forest to find his new friend.

Although Lin Ling had become good friends with Shi Changyuan, he still had some fear of the giant abyssal hole. It was like a little rabbit befriending a big gray wolf, but still not willingly sticking its head into the wolf’s mouth.

The little flower demon hesitated, stopping ten steps away from the Abyss, then craned his neck and called Shi Changyuan’s name.

“Shi Changyuan~”

“Are you awake yet?”

Lin Ling tested the waters, his voice lowered to a whisper, afraid of disturbing his new friend’s sleep.

Some creatures only needed less than two hours of sleep, while others were sleepy all day long, dozing off for a total of fifteen or sixteen hours.

He had been assimilated by humans into a creature of sunrise and sunset, and he didn’t know if his new friend would have a time difference with him.

Lin Ling worried and let his thoughts wander.

In fact, the moment the little flower demon approached the Abyss, before he even spoke, the pitch-black giant hole immediately produced active fluctuations. But these fluctuations could only be detected by human instruments. Lin Ling was just a little flower demon, completely unaware of this.

He sat on the boulder not far from the Abyss and waited for half a minute before seeing Shi Changyuan emerge from the middle of the Abyss.

“You’re up?”

Lin Ling immediately jumped down from the boulder.

The stone was quite high. Shi Changyuan teleported over in the blink of an eye, seemingly wanting to catch the little flower demon as he jumped down, but in the end, he only very reservedly helped Lin Ling steady himself.

“Thank you!”

Although it wasn’t necessary, the little flower demon was a polite flower, especially since this was a concern between friends.

Thinking of this, Lin Ling stared at the part of his arm that Shi Changyuan had held for a long time, his expression a little surprised.

“This is the first time I’ve had physical contact with a human.”

The little flower demon’s eyes sparkled. He reached out and touched Shi Changyuan’s hand with his claw, then quickly withdrew it as Shi Changyuan subconsciously tried to grab the mischievous claw.

“Human skin feels so different from the exterior of a plant.”

“My previous human friends were all quite timid. I was afraid of scaring them, so I only ever played with them in my plant form.” Lin Ling explained.

“After all, no human would be afraid of a little flower that they could crush by sitting on it.”

Shi Changyuan lowered his eyes, silently listening to the little flower demon’s rambling, allowing him to poke here and rub there.

But when he heard the last sentence, he seemed to react, asking back word by word with obvious anger, “Sit on?”

[Someone bullied his seed.]

The Abyss thought angrily.

Since his seed had been lost, he hadn’t slept well, expanding day and night in search, but this world, while not large, still took some time to completely search.

[Someone bullied his seed while he was away.]

Three hundred miles away, alarms suddenly sounded at the human base, indicating violent fluctuations in the Abyss. All the monitors in the lab started running around, nervously recording data, and even dispatched a drone team to the scene to investigate.

They held an emergency meeting, and the result of their discussion was that they believed the Abyss would swallow the Seventh Base before tonight. Their previous decision to relocate the city was incredibly correct.

While the humans three hundred miles away were panicking over the Abyss’s fluctuations, the little flower demon close to Shi Changyuan was clapping his hands like a carefree seal.

“Wow! You learned a new word!”

Perhaps because Shi Changyuan spoke too slowly, the little flower demon didn’t notice the emotion in those words at all.

So what if he spoke slowly? At least his pronunciation was standard this time, wasn’t it? Wasn’t that worth encouraging!

Thinking this, Lin Ling, besides clapping like a seal, also decided to shower this mutated creature, who was almost as smart as him, with flowers.

“But don’t worry, although you’re not as universally loved as I am, your main body doesn’t look like it can be sat on, and I don’t think humans want to lose their butts either.”

The little flower demon comforted him as he recalled the destructive power of the Abyss, his eyes full of yearning. This was probably what it felt like to be at the top of the food chain, quite impressive!

Looking at the small white flowers falling “rustlingly” from above, Shi Changyuan was stunned for a moment, and his fluctuating emotions calmed down again.

The alarms at the human base were lifted without warning. The Seventh Base was even still perfectly fine where it was, leaving the monitors looking at each other in confusion.

“Oh, right, I also brought you some things.”

As the little flower demon spoke, he let go of Shi Changyuan’s hand. He was wearing the most popular overalls in the apocalypse today, with many large pockets, both convenient and capable of holding a lot.

So Shi Changyuan watched as Lin Ling rummaged through his left pocket, then his right, pulling out a few palm-sized booklets and some printed papers.

“These are the study materials I found in the human base after I went back yesterday. I think you’ll need them.”

As Lin Ling spoke, he stuffed the colorful booklets into Shi Changyuan’s hands.

The little flower demon had gone to great lengths to help his new friend learn human language.

“Hurry up and say thank you, Flower Flower!” Lin Ling looked at Shi Changyuan expectantly, deliberately slowing down his speech, trying to teach, “Thank you, and, Flower Flower.”

“You can learn such simple reduplicated words, right?”

Shi Changyuan: …

He looked at the cover of the booklet, which clearly stated “Early Education,” “Children’s Literacy,” and other such words. The phrase “Thank you, Flower Flower” rolled around on the tip of his tongue a few times, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

“Why aren’t you talking?” Lin Ling poked Shi Changyuan’s arm in confusion, muttering, “I went to a lot of trouble to find these.”

“…Mm.” Shi Changyuan looked at the aggrieved little flower demon in front of him, somewhat helpless.

Fine.

“Thank you, Flower Flower.”

The moment Shi Changyuan spoke, Lin Ling immediately brightened up, his eyes curving, like a child who had received candy, his face full of contentment.

“Mm-hmm, read them carefully and study hard.”

After the little flower demon finished speaking, he unfolded the folded printed papers and placed them in front of Shi Changyuan.

“Besides that, I also found your information in the base.”

He had seen the message left by humans, saying they were worried that someone would come specifically to understand the Abyss, only to find nothing, so they left backup data.

The Seventh Base proudly stated in the message that after all, they were the closest base to the Abyss, and no one in the world knew more about the Abyss or had done more research on it than they had.

“I read all the information, but I think this base is bragging.”

“They only recorded some useless data.”

For example, when the Abyss began to awaken, how fast it expanded each day, how large the current area of the Abyss was, what its overall shape was, and the activity patterns of the Abyss, the frequency and number of fluctuations…

The little flower demon immediately started to complain.

“They don’t even know your name, what you look like, what you like, who your best friend is… and they dare to claim to be the people who understand the Abyss best in the world.”

Shi Changyuan looked at the data on the paper, stretched out his hand, and with a “swoosh,” a mass of pure black flames appeared, devouring the paper completely.

“Mm, fake.”

“Exactly!”

Lin Ling looked at the Abyss beside him and raised his head proudly, “I know more than they do. I know your name, I know what you look like, and I know you like… like…”

Lin Ling stammered. He didn’t seem to know what the Abyss liked yet, but it didn’t matter, he could skip this question for now. He would definitely know in the future!

“And I’m your best friend!”

The little flower demon only felt a moment of guilt before regaining his confidence.

He saw that Shi Changyuan didn’t refute him at all, and even nodded in agreement under Lin Ling’s gaze, which made his confidence soar to its peak.

So he concluded, “Clearly, I’m the one who understands the Abyss best in the world.”

Shi Changyuan nodded, blindly agreeing with Lin Ling.

His seed should be the one who understood him best. Even if not, it was definitely not the seed’s fault. His seed just didn’t know or remember yet.

That was all.

Shi Changyuan is the abyss, a world-class disaster that devours all life force around it and continues to expand. The end of the world is coming.

But the little flower demon doesn't know any of this. He only knows that a new neighbor has moved in nearby. He looks a little scary, and all his human friends have fled the city overnight.

Seeing his own leaves gradually turning yellow, the little flower demon Lin Ling goes to his neighbor's door. He stretches out his pale fingers and says aggrievedly, "I don't mean to drive you away, but since you moved in, no one has watered or fertilized me..."

The abyss is silent for a moment, then tentatively rummages through the things it has devoured, and finds a small can of fertilizer.

Later, humans discover that the abyss has stopped expanding, but it has cordoned off a piece of land. Detection radar shows that in the very center of that land, carefully protected, is a small, unknown flower.
