Even the Abyss Wants a Wife 5

Chapter 5

—He was the one who understood the Abyss best.

Although this statement had been personally endorsed by the Abyss, Lin Ling had stalled on the question of “what the Abyss liked.” He couldn’t immediately think of an answer, which made the little flower demon, who claimed to “understand best,” quite embarrassed.

For some reason, he felt like he had cheated and then been covered for it.

His apricot eyes, filled with guilt, blinked and blinked, trying to hide this emotion, but those lively and beautiful eyes had already completely exposed the little flower demon’s thoughts.

The little flower demon thought for a moment, feeling that he couldn’t be unworthy of his title and give other people, flowers, or beasts an opportunity. So he moved closer to Shi Changyuan and asked casually, “What does the Abyss like?”

Faced with Lin Ling’s straightforward question, Shi Changyuan didn’t have any other superfluous reaction. He simply repeated the keyword slowly and with a questioning tone.

“…Like?”

“Yeah, yeah.”

The first reaction that came to Shi Changyuan’s mind was the seed.

[The Abyss only likes his seed.]

Lin Ling watched Shi Changyuan’s lips move, but what came out was a string of words he couldn’t understand.

“I don’t understand your Abyss language.”

The little flower demon poked Shi Changyuan’s arm, muttering, “Just how many Abysses are there in your Abyss family? Using such a complex language, it feels like communication is so little, and the language is so difficult.”

Shi Changyuan frowned slightly, seemingly also troubled by this matter. He hadn’t heard the word “seed” in human language, so he couldn’t express it for a moment.

After all, the number of humans he had come into contact with after awakening was really limited.

In the end, Shi Changyuan decided to rely on flipping through books to communicate.

“Seed?” Shi Changyuan nodded as Lin Ling finished speaking.

The little flower demon never imagined that the thing the Abyss liked most was actually seeds!

How strange.

The confusion in Lin Ling’s eyes was almost tangible. How could the Abyss possibly have anything to do with seeds?

Shi Changyuan also seemed to understand the little flower demon’s confusion. He flipped through the pages and pointed to several places in succession, which, when connected, could form several words.

“Care, sprout, cute…” Lin Ling looked at these words, tilted his head, and looked at the Abyss, which was tall and large even in human form, falling into silence.

The other party had always given Lin Ling the impression of being calm and taciturn, but he suddenly felt that it might be the language barrier hindering the other party’s expression. This was the first time he had seen Shi Changyuan “say” so many “words.”

“…So you like taking care of seeds?” Lin Ling’s voice and expression seemed a little dazed.

“Is the Abyss also a plant? Do you Abysses also reproduce by seeds?”

He secretly glanced at his neighbor, and then another glance, but no matter how he looked at it, the Abyss didn’t seem like the type to like taking care of offspring.

Shi Changyuan, sensing the strange look: …?

“No.”

He denied it laboriously, slowly, but with great emphasis.

As the two looked at each other in silence, Shi Changyuan felt that the little flower demon in front of him had wandered off in his thoughts again. He opened the book again to explain the matter thoroughly.

[Lost]

[Search]

Lin Ling looked at the words Shi Changyuan pointed to, stunned for a moment, and immediately looked at him.

Although Shi Changyuan’s expression didn’t show obvious sadness or loss, Lin Ling still comforted him, “You will definitely find it.”

Losing something important must feel terrible.

Lin Ling imagined that if he accidentally lost something of his own, he would definitely be sad and anxious, and he would search far and wide to find it.

In an instant, Lin Ling understood why the Abyss was constantly expanding. It wasn’t to devour or invade anything, it just wanted to find its seed, and yet it was misunderstood and feared by so many people.

The little flower demon looked at Shi Changyuan, empathizing with him, and extended his hand to his pitiful new friend, opening his arms, “Perhaps, you need a comforting hug?”

Before Shi Changyuan could react, Lin Ling took a step forward and gave him a firm hug.

Lin Ling could feel his new friend’s body stiffen, as if he had never been so intimate with anyone before, but soon he felt the other party hug him back and gently pat his head.

The three-headed parrot, who was going to find the little flower to play, had just flown out of the woods when it saw the two hugging from afar. It let out two “caws,” sighing at the rapid progress.

The three-headed parrot thought it wouldn’t disturb the two’s date, but it completely failed to realize that its three heads all had voices like broken gongs. Just those two caws were enough to attract everyone’s attention.

Lin Ling poked his head out of Shi Changyuan’s embrace, looked at the three-headed parrot not far away, and waved excitedly, intending to go over and greet his former friend.

The warm and soft touch suddenly left Shi Changyuan’s embrace. He subconsciously reached out to hold it back, but only caught a whiff of floral fragrance.

The three-headed parrot looked at the little flower demon who was smiling brightly at it, then at the gloomy-faced Abyss. It shuddered, terrified, flapped its wings, and turned to flee.

The little flower demon sensed its panic and fear, and followed the parrot’s line of sight to look back, only to see the unhappy Abyss standing there.

“The little parrot probably has something else to do. I’ll introduce you next time.”

Lin Ling lied with a straight face, secretly thinking that he would find time to have a good chat with the little parrot later. It was too heartbreaking for his new friend.

Shi Changyuan looked at the serious-looking little flower demon, and after a moment of silence, as if organizing his words, he said, “This is comfort?”

Lin Ling froze, thinking his excuse had been seen through, but the next second, he heard the other party look at him with questioning eyes and say,

“…No more hugs?”

After a moment of silence, the warmth that the Abyss longed for returned to his embrace.

Shi Changyuan openly held his seed, listening to the seed chattering, “Don’t mind them. Since you just moved here, I’ll introduce you to the fun places near the Seventh Base.”

“Not far from here, there are city ruins, filled with all kinds of mutated creatures. Many people have lost things there, we can go and have a look.”

The little flower demon said optimistically and energetically, “Maybe your seed is there too!”

“Mm.” Shi Changyuan had no objections.

No matter what the little flower demon said, Shi Changyuan would nod, so Lin Ling excitedly took Shi Changyuan to the city ruins.

The city ruins were in the opposite direction of the Abyss’s main body, not far away, and were an important activity area for ordinary people of the Seventh Base.

“There are many things buried in the city ruins. If you’re lucky enough to find them, you can use these things to exchange for supplies with humans.”

“I occasionally find some useful things here too, like a small hoe, which I use to loosen the soil around my roots.”

The little flower demon looked at Shi Changyuan, pointed to a certain area of the ruins, and said proudly, “I found a USB drive there before, and the information inside allowed me to exchange for half a year’s worth of fertilizer.”

“That’s how I support myself!”

Shi Changyuan followed Lin Ling’s direction and listened very carefully to the stories of Lin Ling’s past.

These were all times he hadn’t been a part of.

“I’m amazing, right!”

Lin Ling’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Shi Changyuan, his expression seeking praise.

Shi Changyuan looked down at the little flower demon in front of him, who was waving his small hand with the heroic air of someone pointing at mountains and rivers, and the corners of his mouth curved upwards.

“Mm, amazing Little Flower.”

Shi Changyuan is the abyss, a world-class disaster that devours all life force around it and continues to expand. The end of the world is coming.

But the little flower demon doesn't know any of this. He only knows that a new neighbor has moved in nearby. He looks a little scary, and all his human friends have fled the city overnight.

Seeing his own leaves gradually turning yellow, the little flower demon Lin Ling goes to his neighbor's door. He stretches out his pale fingers and says aggrievedly, "I don't mean to drive you away, but since you moved in, no one has watered or fertilized me..."

The abyss is silent for a moment, then tentatively rummages through the things it has devoured, and finds a small can of fertilizer.

Later, humans discover that the abyss has stopped expanding, but it has cordoned off a piece of land. Detection radar shows that in the very center of that land, carefully protected, is a small, unknown flower.

“Just how many Abysses are there in your Abyss family?” I don’t know why this line sent me LOL. Like I’m now imagining a bunch of little abysses running around causing chaos before they properly matured hahaha
