The man froze.
Yu Sui shoved him away with all his might and spat twice.
He just found it too disgusting. How could this person stick his fingers into his mouth?
“I was just teaching you how to open your mouth properly for pronunciation,” He Baiyan explained. He lowered his gaze to the silvery strand on his fingertip and arched a brow slightly. “Or you could cooperate yourself.”
Yu Sui felt a pang in his chest at those words.
He couldn’t comprehend it at all—how was he supposed to cooperate?
But there was no way he’d say any of that out loud.
“I’m in a bad mood right now. I don’t want to cooperate.” Yu Sui could only make an excuse. He stood up, terrified that the man might grab him again, and hurried away with quick steps.
Watching him scurry off like a frightened dog, a faint smile flickered in He Baiyan’s eyes before vanishing in an instant.
Ding-dong—
His phone rang from his pocket.
He Baiyan pulled it out.
The screen lit up with a photo of Yu Sui.
He had just sent someone to the restroom to investigate the young man.
He Baiyan suspected he was a low-tier Alpha—after all, he was so weak. As for why he was pretending to be a high-tier one and stirring up hatred everywhere, that part puzzled him.
But as he scrolled down to Yu Sui’s final gender test report, shock appeared on his face.
“Beta?”
It was completely beyond his expectations. He had never seen a Beta with such striking looks and such a nasty personality.
Interesting.
This new teammate had given him quite the surprise. He wondered how long Yu Sui could last on the team.
As he pondered this, his phone kept ding-donging.
Hm? Was there this much info on him?
He exited the first page of data and looked at the incoming messages. He Baiyan tapped one open.
It was a collection of Yu Sui’s posts from various platforms.
He harbored an intense hatred for Alphas, yet his words betrayed envy and jealousy between the lines.
Ding-dong—
[Private Message] 6483: This guy’s a notorious online troll, especially on the Anti-Alpha Forum—he’s the moderator. Want me to expose him?
[Private Message] . : No need. Don’t leak any more info.
[Private Message] 6483: Got it.
He Baiyan leisurely scrolled through all of Yu Sui’s posts.
At first, his complaints hadn’t been so extreme.
It wasn’t until he lost his job to an Alpha—replaced purely due to gender advantages—that he came to thoroughly despise them.
He Baiyan pursed his lips and turned off his phone.
He pitied him, but that didn’t make him any less detestable.
Whatever his gender, he couldn’t be allowed to hinder the team’s progress.
He stood and headed to the restroom to wash his hands.
Yu Sui went straight back to the dorm and locked the door behind him for good measure.
He rinsed his mouth over and over, still feeling utterly disgusted.
[The method he suggested does work,] the System said, noting how pale Yu Sui’s face had become. [Though it’s pretty insulting, especially to an Alpha.]
“It’s not that I mind—it’s just… we’re both men getting that close…” Yu Sui wrinkled his brow, goosebumps rising all over his skin.
[Host, don’t tell me you think he has feelings for you?] the System probed.
“I…”
[Alphas aren’t masochists. They’re too proud to fall for someone who keeps trash-talking Alphas like them.]
“You’re right, but still…” After all, everyone in this world was male, and straight-guy Yu Sui was terrified.
[You’re pretending to be a nasty Alpha on the surface, and your real identity is just an ordinary Beta. Even if they don’t like Alphas, they’d go for Omegas—not Betas. Your worries are overblown,] the System continued to reassure him. [I know you can’t handle intimate contact, but they don’t have those kinds of thoughts about you.]
Yu Sui took a deep breath to calm himself. “I get it.”
[Good, you’ve come around.] The System let out a sigh of relief.
Yu Sui holed up in the dorm until eight that evening, when a staff member called to tell them to gather.
Reluctantly, he stepped out.
He hadn’t had time to change clothes. He acted all cocky in front of the teammates, but around the manager, he shrank back a bit.
His hair was a mess, and he wore a short-sleeved pajama top printed with cats, paired with black shorts that reached his knees.
Laziness radiated from him, giving him a somewhat languid air.
While waiting for the elevator, he glanced down at the group chat. Jiang Nianxing and the others had posted the segmented lyrics.
Only Yu Sui hadn’t decided which part to sing.
The conversation was sparse, so he exited WeChat.
Ding—
The elevator doors opened. Yu Sui stepped forward, but his body went rigid when he saw who was inside.
If there was anyone he didn’t want to see right now, it was definitely He Baiyan. Yu Sui felt guilty, after all.
“Not coming in? You’ll be late.” Seeing the young man’s guarded look—like a cat with fur standing on end—He Baiyan recalled his earlier bravado. It turned out to be as flimsy as paper, crumbling at the slightest poke.
Yu Sui didn’t want to leave a bad impression on the manager, so he stepped into the elevator.
“Did you practice on your own back in the dorm?” Noticing how the young man kept his head down, with a few soft strands of black hair sticking up like he’d just rolled out of bed, He Baiyan asked.
Yu Sui’s heart skipped a beat. The man’s question hit like running into the homeroom teacher on the way out the door, only to be asked about unfinished homework.
“None of your business.” He lifted his head, feigning impatience. “You sure adapted to this job fast. Already okay with selling smiles? What a disgrace for an Alpha.”
His tone was sharp and loaded with aggression.
But He Baiyan showed no reaction. The man thought of Yu Sui’s online rants—claiming Alphas couldn’t be idols due to genetic flaws—and now here he was, criticizing him again. What was this, a left-brain right-brain showdown?
Seeing no response, Yu Sui figured he’d struck a nerve and felt triumphant. He raised a brow, leaned against the elevator wall, crossed his arms, and said, “He Baiyan, I really look down on you.”
Staring at the young man’s beautiful face, He Baiyan wondered how he could be so bold. Did he have no idea what would happen if his true identity came out?
For the team’s future, He Baiyan decided it was time to make him tone it down.
“Is that so?”
He closed the distance step by step. Sure enough, Yu Sui’s lashes trembled in fear, though he stubbornly lifted his chin to feign composure.
What a scaredy-cat, yet he dared pretend to be an Alpha and provoke them…
He Baiyan reached out. Yu Sui tensed up and squeezed his eyes shut.
Hm, this was kind of fun.
He Baiyan’s palm landed on his head, gently smoothing down the stray hairs. “Are you scared I’m going to hit you?”
Yu Sui opened his eyes, feeling the touch on his scalp. He was surprised—and a little uncomfortable—wanting to push the man away, but then he heard those words.
His outstretched hand grabbed He Baiyan’s collar instead. “Me, scared of you? Hilarious. I’m just afraid I won’t control my mental power and end up going too hard—leaving you bedridden.”
The young man tilted his head up, brazenly bragging.
They were too close. He Baiyan looked down, feeling the youth’s breath on him.
He hadn’t smelled any pheromones from him before, but now a faint, fresh fragrance wafted over. Body wash?
Seeing the man frozen, Yu Sui figured he’d really scared him.
He couldn’t help but feel smug, his lips curving up. “Know fear now, low-tier Alpha?”
As his lips parted and closed, revealing pearly teeth and a glimpse of pink tongue, He Baiyan had to admit—objectively speaking—this Beta was stunningly attractive.
If he were a real Alpha, Omegas would flock to him. If he were an Omega…
Ding—
“I wonder if this time…”
“What are you two doing?”
Jiang Nianxing was stunned.
Yu Sui turned toward the sound on instinct.
All three newcomers wore looks of surprise, but Jiang Nianxing’s was the most exaggerated.
He Baiyan naturally removed Yu Sui’s hand from his collar and took a step back. “Nothing.”
“Nothing? You were so close, staring into each other’s eyes so intensely. That’s way too…” Jiang Nianxing trailed off, at a loss for words. He glanced at Lu Jinxia beside him, hoping for backup.
But the young man just stared at Yu Sui in his cute pajamas, lost in thought.
“Hey, why isn’t anyone talking?” Jiang Nianxing turned to Shen Anliu on the other side.
“Yu Sui, you two…” Shen Anliu finally spoke, his voice a bit dry as he looked at the beautiful youth.
That scene had been far too intimate.
Like they were about to kiss any second.
So he wasn’t the only Alpha Yu Sui didn’t mind?
Shen Anliu’s heart grew even more sour.
“Are you coming in or not?” Yu Sui felt his scalp tingle under their stares.
It didn’t matter if the protagonists saw him chewing out He Baiyan—that was part of drawing their hatred. But if a staff member walked by…
The company turned a blind eye, but only as long as it stayed off the record.
The three stepped silently into the elevator.
Jiang Nianxing positioned himself next to Yu Sui and scrutinized him.
The guy had fair skin and a pretty face—good-looking enough that even a rag would suit him, let alone these cute clothes.
But that didn’t mean…
And besides…
He glanced at He Baiyan, dying to ask: Didn’t he have a germ phobia? Wasn’t he supposed to keep strangers at arm’s length? So why had he been so close to Yu Sui?
Shouldn’t two Alphas be at each other’s throats?
Lu Jinxia was also surprised by He Baiyan’s change. He’d thought they’d clash, but that afternoon, the captain had returned acting like nothing happened—even when Yu Sui was absent, he hadn’t said a word.
He’d slipped back into his usual aloof, uninvolved demeanor.
But that elevator scene had been overly intimate.
Thanks to his psychologist’s advice, Lu Jinxia had searched online for similar cases and stumbled on AA Romance forums.
He wasn’t as clueless as Jiang Nianxing, but He Baiyan pursuing an AA Romance? He couldn’t picture it.
Shen Anliu was in low spirits, a sense of crisis bubbling up in his heart. Was it possible that the captain was into Alphas too?
He compared himself to He Baiyan, and his confidence plummeted even further.
If Yu Sui liked Alphas, there was no way he’d ever go for someone like him.
The group arrived at the floor their manager had mentioned, each lost in their own thoughts and wrapped in silence.
They stepped out of the elevator.
Right away, they spotted members from the company’s other boy bands. Some groups had four members, others five. Though they walked together, their expressions ranged from “I don’t like the look of you” sneers to “strangers keep away” scowls—nothing friendly about them.
TYE’s members were the seniors among all these groups, yet no one came over to greet them.
Instead, the others stared them down with undisguised hostility in their eyes.
After all, being in the same company made them direct rivals.
The boss didn’t just enjoy watching infighting within teams; he loved seeing bands pitted against each other, like crickets in a fight pit. He reveled in the whole spectacle.
TYE’s five members stood out head and shoulders above the rest in looks and build. If Yu Sui hadn’t been wearing pajamas, they might have assumed the group was prepped for a stage performance.
Jiang Nianxing’s face settled into its usual squinting smile, but he made no effort to hide his aggressive edge toward the others.
With so many Alphas in such close quarters, their pheromones showed signs of spiraling out of control.
Lu Jinxia’s expression remained mild as he gave them a cool, indifferent once-over, not deeming them worth his attention.
The captain was even more aloof, his gaze sliding past everyone—though his peripheral vision lingered on Yu Sui at his side.
He could feel the thickening tension in the air. Though the pheromones were faint, the jumble of scents mingling together was utterly nauseating.
Yu Sui did frown slightly. He couldn’t smell anything himself, but he sensed the danger all the same.
Meanwhile, Shen Anliu suddenly found himself face-to-face with so many seniors. His earlier worries vanished in an instant, replaced by nervousness and unease.
“Hello, seniors,” he said.
The subtle clashes between the groups halted abruptly at his greeting. Everyone stopped in their tracks and turned to stare at Shen Anliu.
Was this a provocation?
