Chapter 1: The Cannon Fodder Roommate of the Unlimited Flow Male Lead (Part One)
“Lin Lin.” 996 opened the door and looked quizzically at the black-haired young man sitting in the task space, head bowed as he counted his points. “Why are you back? Weren’t you going on vacation?”
Yu Lin nodded. “Mhm.”
Bending down to pick up the jellyfish-shaped 996 for a squeeze, Yu Lin pulled up his panel and casually opened the system mailbox.
『Beep—Welcome to the System Mailbox.』

『I’ve accepted a few easy-to-grind small worlds for you. Just go ahead and lie flat. You’re welcome.』 —From your Group Leader.
Yu Lin: “…”
Yu Lin’s eyelashes lowered slightly as he fell into thought.
996 wiggled a bit, pressing against his fingers and secretly tilting its head up to look at him.
Yu Lin’s black hair hung down slightly over his fair skin. His features were quiet and perfectly proportioned, so beautiful that one couldn’t help but feel a natural affinity for him. Most importantly, he had a pair of amber-colored eyes that seemed to be filled with affection and clarity.
After a moment of contemplation, Yu Lin spoke: “Six.”
996, who was resting on Yu Lin’s lap, jolted at the word. Its tentacles twitched rapidly. “Lin Lin, what’s wrong?”
It seemed to remember something, and its expression suddenly turned bashful. “Lin Lin, can you call me something else in the future? I connected to the human external network and heard that calling someone just ‘Six’ has a certain cringey vibe, like it sounds kinda dumb.”
“Alright, Little Nine.” Yu Lin ruffled its head and said with a smile, “Then, would the clever Little Nine please help me connect to the task world?”
“Okay!!”
***
Yu Lin awoke to a wave of dizziness.
He shifted slightly. His hand was on a soft-textured sofa, and the air was thick with the smell of alcohol. His initial assessment was that the original owner of this body had consumed a large amount of alcohol.
Yu Lin raised his eyes slightly to take in his current situation.
He was in a boisterous and lively KTV. A layer of deep blue light washed over the transparent seats, pulsing in time with the heavy bass from the stage, making his head spin.
He was in a private room that was extremely noisy. It seemed to be a party held by university students, and they were in the middle of a game, the crowd chattering incessantly.
Yu Lin’s ears were ringing. Just then, a tall, lanky boy holding a glass of wine started to heckle, “A bet’s a bet, Senior. Our Lin Lin has spoken. Say something, will you? No way, you don’t even like Lin Lin?”
As he spoke, he turned to look at Yu Lin, who was sitting on the sofa with hazy eyes.
Yu Lin sat on the sofa without a word, his head slightly lowered. His figure was tall and slender, revealing a section of his long, elegant neck. His features were exceedingly beautiful, like a star from a television poster. He had caused a sensation in his department the moment he enrolled as a freshman.
In the past six months, the knights vying to win the beauty’s heart were as numerous as crucian carp crossing a river, a never-ending stream. Yet, for a full six months, not a single one had managed to conquer this beauty with impossibly high standards.
And just now, the beauty had honored a lost bet and confessed his feelings to Su Huai, who was also in the room.
Who was Su Huai? He was the prodigy of the computer science department. Though only a sophomore, he had already developed software with his friends and sold it for several million. By his junior year, he had already founded his own tech company and had a boundless future.
The key was that he was also handsome, with deep-set features and sharp eyes and brows. Beneath his clothes were lean yet powerful muscles.
However, from the moment of the confession until now, Su Huai hadn’t so much as batted an eyelid.
Seeing that no one was paying him any attention, the heckling lanky boy’s voice trailed off. He looked left and right, seeing the beauty on the left with drunken, hopeful eyes, and the bigshot on the right with a placid expression, as immovable as a mountain. He knew he was out of his depth.
He gradually fell silent and got up to leave the room. However, the sound of singing in the private room continued. Hearing it, Yu Lin’s eyelashes trembled slightly. Enduring the dizziness, he said in a low voice, “Little Nine, import the plot.”
Seeing his discomfort, the little jellyfish spun around anxiously beside him, wishing it could bear the pain for him. It was only when Yu Lin gave it an imperceptible shake of his head that it pitifully rubbed against his chin and opened the plot summary.
Across from them, Su Huai stared into the void at a panel, watching the countdown for a mission just issued by the Main God. His eyelids twitched almost invisibly.
Yu Lin didn’t notice the male lead’s actions. After importing the plot, he glanced at it and discovered that this was a world based on the unlimited flow genre.
In this world, there was a space called the Main God, which randomly selected task-doers to enter various terrifying and bizarre worlds. Those who survived received handsome rewards; those who died were dead forever.
The male lead, Su Huai, the cool guy sitting opposite Yu Lin, was the center of this world’s plot and a typical Long Aotian-style protagonist. Not only was he wildly successful in reality, but he also dominated other players in the game world.
Su Huai was exceptionally talented and had a cold, hard personality. By this point, he should have already entered the world for the fifth time, slaughtering monsters to the point that they would tremble at the mere mention of his name and flee in utter terror.
As a result, his name had shot up the leaderboards. Even in the real world, countless task-doers were secretly trying to find out just who this bigshot with the codename ’01’ was.
As for the body Yu Lin was inhabiting, he was a bona fide minor cannon fodder… with less than two lines’ worth of scenes in total.
In Su Huai’s junior year, his roommate moved out, leaving the dorm room empty. The school randomly assigned a freshman to the room, which was the original owner of this body.
The original owner was beautiful, but he was gay. Upon seeing the tall, long-legged, and well-endowed male lead, he fell in love at first sight. Knowing they were assigned to the same dorm, he tried to seduce him time and again.
This included, but was not limited to, walking around shirtless after a shower, climbing into the male lead’s bed at night, and stealing the male lead’s dirty laundry. The male lead had little interest in men and eventually became so annoyed by the harassment that he stopped returning to the dorm altogether.
This led to the original owner’s second game. He knew the male lead, this bigshot, but because they were too far apart, he failed to team up with him and was torn to shreds by monsters while trying to escape.
And right now, this was the scene of the original owner’s first confession.
At a student council dinner, the president had invited Su Huai. Although Su Huai showed up, he had no intention of participating, and no one else dared to disturb him. Only the original owner, emboldened by alcohol, went up to confess. After being rejected, he even tried to force a kiss.
In the original plot, the male lead was straight and utterly disgusted by the original owner, turning and leaving on the spot. Because of this, during the first instance tonight, the original owner failed to latch onto the bigshot’s thigh. Lacking experience, he was chased miserably by the monsters.
“…” Yu Lin closed the mission summary. His head didn’t hurt as much anymore. He glanced at the reward: a guaranteed minimum of fifty points for a C-rank completion.
A guaranteed C-rank simply meant living out a person’s original life uneventfully, with no difficulty.
Back when Yu Lin was grinding for points, for the sake of efficiency, he usually chose scripts with a major Long Aotian protagonist. They were more tiring, but the highlight moments were intense, the points were plentiful, and the payoff was excellent. Now, however, he no longer wanted to exert himself so much.
He was only short five hundred points, so the guaranteed C-rank was enough. Yu Lin prepared to just lie flat through all the worlds he had accepted.
There was just one condition: in the task world, he had to maintain the original owner’s basic persona.
Yu Lin scanned the panel, memorized a few keywords, and got to work.
Across the room, Su Huai was rapidly browsing the Main God’s announcements. He stared at the mission panel, his expression placid, not even batting an eyelid. No one could tell anything was amiss with him.
His looks were already outstanding, but having fought his way out of the unlimited flow, his aura was even more intimidating. His features were sharp and handsome, his eyes as black as a cold abyss.
Thinking of the instance tonight, he put down his glass. He was about to leave when the person next to him tugged at his arm. “Bro, someone’s confessing to you. At least give a reply, right?”
Su Huai frowned. As he looked down, the person opposite him also looked over.
The young man raised his eyes to look at him. His skin was fair, his face very beautiful. His eyelashes were long and thick, and his eyes were slightly rounded. When he looked over, they were crystal clear, filled with an unconcealable affection and fondness.
Having been through countless unlimited instances, Su Huai was no longer an ordinary person and rarely had emotional fluctuations. But faced with such pure, undisguised affection, he paused for a moment before saying, “Sorry, I don’t like guys.”
Hearing this, the person opposite him froze, looking up at him blankly. But he didn’t pester him, only saying softly, “Mhm.”
With that, he zoned out. Before long, his eyes and neck had turned completely red.
Yu Lin felt a little unwell. Although this body had a rebellious personality, his upbringing had been strict. As a new freshman, he wasn’t even used to drinking. A few glasses were enough to make the world spin.
Yu Lin endured the dizziness and finished reading the plot. He sat in his seat without a sound and began to zone out.
Anyway, the plot point was coming up soon. In it, the original owner would enter the first instance tonight. Because he missed his chance with the male lead, his role was minor. All Yu Lin had to do was follow the plot, get chased by a monster for a bit, and then find a safe spot to lie low.
Just then, the tall, lanky boy who had left earlier came out of the restroom. Seeing the situation, he was taken aback and asked, “What’s going on here?”
Su Huai said, “It’s nothing.”
“Oh.” The lanky boy said again, “Are you leaving? What about Lin Lin? Is he drunk?”
Yu Lin was sitting down, his eyelids and cheeks flushed red. He looked like he could fall asleep at any second.
The lanky boy said, “He’s that drunk, huh? Lin Lin, can you hear me? Why don’t you head back to school first? You can have Senior Su Huai take you.”
As he spoke, he looked towards the stone-faced Su Huai.
On the sofa, Yu Lin heard him and lifted his eyelids slightly. He recalled the plot, realized this part wasn’t in it, and shook his head. “No, thank you.”
Su Huai said, “Get up.”
He was holding his car keys, his gaze cool and imposing. In the chaotic lights of the private room, his eyes appeared pitch-black.
Yu Lin paused. Remembering he had a ‘deeply in love’ persona to maintain, he obediently stood up and stumbled after him.
He followed Su Huai all the way out of the KTV. The mirror in the elevator reflected their figures. They were silent with each other all the way to where Su Huai had parked.
Su Huai’s car was black and seemed to have been modified. Its exterior looked as cold and hard as he did.
After they got in, Su Huai asked, “Which building?”
Yu Lin said, “Building 7.”
Su Huai’s fingers, gripping the steering wheel, paused.
The distance from the KTV to Jiang University wasn’t far, about a twenty-minute drive without traffic. As Su Huai drove, his features were submerged in darkness, appearing stern and quiet against the bustling city night.
Beside him, the person who had just confessed to him was looking out the window, showing no intention of taking the opportunity to talk to him. His eyes were misty, and his head was resting against the glass. It was unclear if he was unhappy because of the rejection.
They rode in silence the entire way.
When they reached the school, Su Huai got out of the car, paused, then walked around to the other side and pulled the door open. The person inside was already trying to squirm his way out. Before Su Huai could speak, he tumbled out, lost his footing, and sat right down on the flowerbed behind him.
Yu Lin had just been opening the door when he unexpectedly tumbled out. He froze for a second, his head still aching. He sat on the flowerbed, the surface cool to the touch. He shifted uncomfortably and blinked hesitantly.
He was very drunk. Su Huai looked at him, walked over, and calmly crouched down in front of him.
“Do you still know who I am?”
“Yes.”
“Who am I?”
“Senior Su Huai.”
“Who are you?”
Yu Lin sat on the flowerbed, his legs slightly parted. The arms resting on his thighs were fair and delicate, and his eyelids were flushed red from the alcohol.
Hearing this question, he subconsciously thought of his persona on the panel. He lifted his eyes slightly, his eyelids trembling, and said softly but with certainty, “…I’m the Lin Lin who likes Senior Su Huai the very, very most.”
He sat there under the streetlights of the Jiang University campus at night, surrounded by the overflowing fragrance of osmanthus. Sitting beneath the fragrant osmanthus tree, his eyes and brows were captivating.
Hearing this, Su Huai raised an eyebrow. He looked up at him, and his Adam’s apple bobbed slightly.
