Chapter 18: The Cannon Fodder Roommate of the Unlimited Flow Male Lead (Part 18-1)
Yu Lin had been in a standoff with the ghost bride for half the night and was already tired. He was carried back by Su Huai and slept for a while more. When he opened his eyes in the morning, they were still red.
The nights in Zhao Family Village seemed to be particularly long. Yu Lin heard the chirping of birds outside the window.
However, when he looked up, through the crack in the window, he could only see a faint blue light outside.
Dawn was approaching.
Yu Lin lowered his eyes, feeling his eyes sore, but he was no longer sleepy. The palm on his waist was warm, and the breathing by his ear was long and steady.
He didn’t move, his hair resting quietly on Su Huai’s neck. An unknown amount of time passed. He blinked, and then a palm landed on top of his head.
Feeling his eyelashes move, Su Huai reached out, touched his hair, and asked, “You’re awake?”
He sat up, seemed to recover for a moment, and said in a hoarse voice, “I’m going out for a bit. The things outside haven’t been dealt with properly.”
He had cut down two red lanterns last night and had been in a hurry to come back, so he had just thrown them at the door. These things were fierce and had to be dealt with, so he planned to go out and clean them up early in the morning.
He had been delayed for too long by the two lanterns last night. It seemed that this instance was not easy.
Yu Lin sat up to get his clothes and said softly, “I’ll go with you.”
Su Huai turned to look at him. “En.”
He didn’t refuse, nodded, and got up to walk to the wall. Before long, he came back with a cold towel soaked in well water, raised his hand, and pressed it on Yu Lin’s eyelids.
After a while, he lowered his eyes and instructed, “When we go out later, don’t touch anything. Don’t stray too far from me. This place is too fierce and not safe.”
With that, he used the wet towel to wipe Yu Lin’s face.
Yu Lin hadn’t slept well, and his eyes were red. He sat on the head of the bed, dressed, a little listless. Hearing his words, he looked up, his chin resting on the black frog buttons of his collar.
He wanted to say not to worry, but seeing the back of his boyfriend’s hand tensed, he said, “Okay.”
He looked very obedient, which made one want to ruffle his hair even more.
Su Huai thought so, and did so. He lowered his head, held the back of his head, and kissed his lips. His five fingers gently grasped, leaving a very faint fragrance in his palm.
The sky outside was slightly bright, showing a transparent deep blue.
The two of them went out with very little noise, so little that they didn’t disturb anyone else, and walked towards the village entrance.
At dawn, the wasteland outside the village was still cold and gloomy. The dirt road was full of potholes. Stepping on it, there was no direction. After walking for an unknown amount of time, they finally found a different place.
Donggua had not exaggerated at all.
At the edge of the yellow earth of Zhao Family Village, there was indeed something, but it was a large area of graves.
These graves were of all sizes, high and low, scattered in the night. The memorial tablets had already rotted, tilted and crooked, emitting an ominous aura.
Just looking at them, it was indescribably cold and gloomy.
The light of dawn fell, making the visibility of this place higher. There were puddles of water in the ground. Upon closer inspection, one could find that they were pools of blood.
Su Huai held Yu Lin’s hand, and with his other hand, he carried two red lanterns, and stopped at the edge of the graveyard.
The deep blue sky divided this place into two.
He paused, stood at the edge of the graveyard, and did not move forward. Instead, he turned his head and, under the cover of the night, observed Yu Lin, as if to confirm that he was not scared.
Yu Lin lowered his eyes, let out a light breath, and tried to control the slight trembling of his fingertips. He shook his head. “I’m fine.”
His fingers were cold, but his gaze lifted slightly, and he carefully looked around, finally locking onto the faintly discernible words on the memorial tablets.
Among these words… the frequency of the surname Zhao seemed to be very high.
“En.” Su Huai glanced at the sky, then looked down at him. After a moment of silence, he held his hand even tighter.
He kicked the red lantern on the ground and frowned. “The first thing to do after entering the instance is to observe the terrain as much as possible after receiving the mission and look for clues and items. I looked around last night. This place is full of buried lanterns.”
Yu Lin was stunned for a moment, realizing that he was telling him a clue and also teaching him.
He pressed his lips together and nodded lightly. “Okay.”
Su Huai: “En.”
He took out Ghost Slayer and, without saying more, he slashed a small pit in the graveyard and kicked the red lantern that had started to jump in. The lantern struggled for a moment and let out a scream.
Yu Lin watched, his lips pressed tightly together. Su Huai stood by, holding his hand even deeper and tighter.
After dealing with the lanterns and returning from the graveyard, the sky had already turned white.
When they reached the village entrance, the village, which had been quiet all night, seemed to have suddenly come to life with the bright daylight, filled with the sounds of fetching water, talking, chopping vegetables, and the sounds of daily life.
Yu Lin was stunned for a moment and looked back, only to find that the graveyard in the night was completely gone.
Although the wilderness was desolate, under the bright daylight, it seemed to be just an ordinary piece of yellow earth.
The scene of corpses littering the ground at night was completely gone.

Because of the wedding, everyone in Zhao Family Village woke up particularly early today, yawning. Some were chopping meat in the courtyard, and some were frying meatballs in the kitchen.
There were too many guests coming and going to take care of, so the villagers simply set up a stall at the east end of the village for the guests to eat.
This simple cafeteria was a fixed place in the dungeon and was not difficult to find. The NPCs would also give directions. When Yu Lin and Su Huai went over, most of the players had already arrived.
In fact, a considerable number of them had already finished eating and had silently left their seats to look for clues.
Only three men and two women were left at the table, one of whom was Donggua.
Seeing them, Donggua’s eyes lit up. “Bro, over here.”
He looked at the two of them, scratched his head, and found that he couldn’t tell who was older. He was young, so he simply called them both.
He still had a corn cob in his mouth, and his eyes were wide.
When they came over, he pushed the bowl in front of him forward and asked strangely, “Bro, where did you two go this morning? Here, eat quickly. I came early and got the sweet potatoes and corn… the rest is all meat. I… uh, I didn’t take any.”
He remembered the unpleasant memory from the last dungeon and made a retching expression.
Yu Lin looked at the porcelain bowl in front of him and said softly, “Thank you.”
He felt his pocket and took out an energy bar he had prepared in advance. “This is for you.”
Donggua took it, and his eyes lit up. “Chocolate flavor… this is okay too?!”
“Ding—” As the few of them were talking, a dissonant sound suddenly came from the side.
Yu Lin turned his head to look and found that the chair on the far right of the dining table had suddenly moved. He looked over and saw the pink-haired boy who had been staring at him yesterday.
An unfamiliar face, his expression not looking very happy. The boy was also holding a broken porcelain bowl, his features delicate, and his hair was pink.
He had a cold face, pretending to be calm, but his hand was tightly clutching a bowl of fried chicken legs.
He looked over, stared at them, and suddenly asked, “You… you all know where this is? What did you guys just say? The meat here can’t be eaten?”
He looked like a novice. Although he was trying hard to be calm, his eyes still revealed fear.
The few people sitting at the table were used to this situation and didn’t pay much attention to him.
Donggua was young and looked at him with sympathy. “Bro, death game, haven’t you heard of it?”
The boy’s breathing became chaotic for a few seconds, and he suddenly looked up.
Yu Lin found that he was looking at himself.
His hand was hanging by the side of the table, and he was quietly holding a corn cob.
Seeing the boy’s persistent gaze, Yu Lin thought for a moment and told him, “This is the Main God game. Life and death will affect life and death in reality, so everyone has to find a way to survive as much as possible.”
He said, “There are many traps and many ghosts here. It’s not that the meat can’t be eaten, but this world is very bizarre. Compared to vegetables, the material of the meat is even more uncertain, so it’s best not to eat it.”
He explained in detail, his gaze falling on the other’s white knuckles. After a moment of thought, he added, “If you want to clear the instance, you can ask the people here for clues, but be careful. They may not all be alive.”
The people around them all looked used to it. A man and a woman finished their corn and directly took their trays and left.
The leaves on the tree at the village entrance rustled.
The boy pressed his lips together and looked at them, obviously understanding something. His face turned pale, and he threw the bowl in his hand with a “clang” and breathed heavily.

After eating, they had to go to the village to find other clues. Donggua thought it over and over and refused to go with them, saying dejectedly that compared to clues, he still wanted to find his sister.
He was holding a broken porcelain bowl in his hand, his head lowered in dejection. Inside was a sweet potato and an uneaten energy bar, which he probably wanted to leave for Dongqing.
In fact, Su Huai had told Yu Lin when he came back in the morning that Dongqing was not nearby, and it was even possible that she hadn’t even entered this instance.
Yu Lin looked at him, pressed his lips together slightly, not knowing whether to tell Donggua this news.
A shadow fell by his side. Su Huai stood up and naturally took his hand.
He looked at Donggua and said, “Look for her in the village. If there’s any movement, hide in the ancestral hall. Don’t blindly join in the fun.”
“Oh… okay.” Donggua scratched his face. One of the things his sister had drilled into him was to be obedient.
He was not a rebellious person either. He looked left and right. “Then I’ll go and ask the villagers later.”
There were many people in the village during the day, but they were all very busy. Yu Lin and Su Huai went over and asked a few old men who were fetching water, and then asked a few old ladies who were squatting at the village entrance chatting.
It was just that the old people in this village were a bit old. They looked at them with a dazed expression and could hardly say anything, only vaguely saying that they didn’t know and that they were busy.
They were like NPCs without a set plot, their movements mechanical. Yu Lin looked at them and realized that he couldn’t get anything out of them.
He thought for a moment, and in turn, took Su Huai’s hand. They stopped under the half-closed doors of the houses, and when they heard a sound, they would go over and listen.
He had his head down, his long gown leaning against the wall. He would turn his head from time to time and glance into the vermilion gates.
If a villager came out and asked him what he was doing, he would ask them questions.
Some answered him, some didn’t, but after a while, he still managed to get something.
For example, the outside world was very chaotic, with warlords fighting and the people living in misery. For example, today was the thirtieth of March, but this March only had thirty-one days.
He had originally wanted to ask about the bride or Yilan, but as soon as he brought up this question, everyone’s expression became unpredictable, and they refused to say a word.
In the end, the two of them sat under the only closed door in the village that they couldn’t enter and exchanged information.
Yu Lin’s eyelashes drooped slightly as he guessed softly, “Something happened in this village… they don’t dare to mention Yilan. The thirty-third of March, I thought it was a different way of calculating the date before, but now it seems to be a reference.”
He pressed his lips together. “Looking at it this way, the ghost bride yesterday should be Yilan… could it be that she was killed before the wedding? So the villagers don’t dare to mention it?”
His tone was puzzled.
Su Huai sat by his side, his arm resting against the wall, his long legs slightly bent. He turned his head to watch his boyfriend go from having no clue to gradually piecing together a little of the truth.
His expression was serious. Although he had been running around all day, his features were clean, his eyelashes were slightly lowered, and he was not dirty at all.
It was just that his calf was a little sore. He unintentionally tapped it lightly.
Yu Lin felt a shadow fall in front of him, and then his sore calf was lifted and held in a palm.
“Perhaps it wasn’t a voluntary marriage.” Su Huai said.
As he spoke, he reached out, and his fingers pressed on Yu Lin’s knee, not too light or too heavy.
Yu Lin felt that his leg was very hot and a little itchy.
He pressed his lips together, his ears turning red, and was a little distracted. He then heard his boyfriend say, “She was unwilling and was killed.”
This kind of dungeon was always full of such bloody elements. Yu Lin frowned and suddenly thought of Chen Nianqiu.
If the internet cafe from twenty years ago really existed… if Zhao Family Village from a hundred years ago really existed.
Then were these people game bosses… or wandering souls in the human world.
Yu Lin lowered his eyes, staring at the long and powerful fingers on his calf, and let out a very light sigh.
A total of fifteen players had entered this instance. One had died last night. Today, everyone was a little silent, and they didn’t speak to each other when they met.
Someone was paying attention to the leaderboards and seemed to have recognized Su Huai’s identity, wanting to come over and latch onto his coattails. However, this instance was of high difficulty, and Su Huai was particularly cold and unapproachable.
So the few players who wanted to come over and talk hesitated and didn’t dare to say a word.
As a result, after a day, besides those he had spoken to, Yu Lin was only familiar with the players in this instance by sight.
The sky unknowingly darkened, and evening came. The orange light began to slowly fall from the sky, painting the entire Zhao Family Village in a hazy yellow.
