Chapter 39: The Vicious Ex-Boyfriend of the Impoverished Bigshot (Part 7)
The rain was very heavy and did not stop for two consecutive days. The thrilling water quickly bred a sense of panic.
When the water had flooded over the mountainside and was gradually pouring into the village, even the experienced villagers began to panic.
The power went out, and communication became difficult. There were only a few candles left. Someone suggested going to higher ground.
Outside, there was a constant argument about where to go. The water was getting higher and higher. In the middle of the night, someone was almost washed away by the water. Their family cried until they fainted, and the villagers hurriedly took them to the health center.
Yu Lin had studied medical knowledge and was able to help, so he stayed at the health center.
After two days of running around, his clothes were already dirty, and his trouser legs were rolled up, revealing a section of his thin ankles.
When the person’s condition had stabilized, his legs were already stiff when he sat down, and they were sore and numb.
He pressed his lips together and unconsciously looked at the incessant rain outside the door, and began to worry about Shen Zhou’s reaction when he received the news.
***
Shen Zhou got out of the car. His assistant came to pick him up. As he was getting into the car, he told him about the flood in Jiangguan.
The sales director, who was on a business trip with him, was stunned for a moment, and his heart immediately tightened, and he also looked over.
Shen Zhou grunted, “En.” His movements paused for a moment, and he got into the car with a normal expression, looking as if nothing was wrong.
On the way, the sales director held a document and asked him a question about a contract. It was a very small question. He asked it twice before Shen Zhou looked over, his features dark, and after a slight pause, he asked him, “What did you just say?”
The sales director looked at him and thought to himself that he was done for.
He had been working with Shen Zhou for three years, and their relationship was good. He also knew a lot.
Yu Lin and Shen Zhou’s relationship was a secret. He was afraid that Shen Zhou would get angry, so he stared at him and said, “Nothing.”
The director clenched his hands and comforted him, “Don’t be anxious either. The news is reporting it. They’ve already arranged for people to go and rescue them. The rescue team is there, and there will be results soon. Don’t panic.”
Shen Zhou said placidly, “En.”
But when the two of them returned to the factory, and he had gone to write an order, Shen Zhou had put down his things and had left.
He had driven a car himself and had followed the rescue team to the disaster area.
When the director received the news, he hurriedly looked in the direction he had left, and he really didn’t know what to say.
The heavy rain had washed out the road, and Shen Zhou’s journey was not smooth. The car soon could not go any further. He simply followed the rescue team and searched along the way.
His expression was placid, and he looked as if he had no emotions. Only when he heard that there were more casualties would he frown slightly.
He went all the way forward and asked everyone along the way, but he found nothing. It was not until he was on the highway that Shen Zhou helped to move a few truckloads of supplies, and was drinking mineral water, that he happened to hear someone next to him talk about the person he was looking for.
That person was a truck driver. He had come back from Guanghui and was taking the main road back to Ansui, but it had suddenly started to rain heavily halfway.
He had not reacted in time and had been left on the road. He was very regretful. “I saw that the rain was too heavy and wanted to leave quickly, but who knew that it would flood not long after? If I had known, I would have followed that Ansui car up the mountain to hide.”
Shen Zhou listened to his words, put down the finished water, zipped up his black jacket, and went over to ask about the car’s appearance and route. After confirming that the people in the car were Yu Lin and the driver, he nodded and rushed all the way to Huangjing Village.
When Shen Zhou arrived with the rescue team, Huangjing Village was already half-flooded. Yu Lin and the villagers were waiting for rescue at the health center at the very top.
The weather had been bad these past few days. Although it was no longer raining, it was not sunny either. It was a gray expanse.
Yu Lin had taken care of the wounded at night and had been busy until dawn. In the morning, he really couldn’t take it anymore and was dozing off against the wall, sleepy.
He tilted his head, pressed his lips together lightly, and his arm hung by his knee. He was sleeping with his jacket on.
He was too sleepy, and the people coming and going in the health center did not wake him up. He leaned against the corner of the wall, and felt the light and shadow in front of him swaying. He would occasionally turn his head, revealing a little mud that had accidentally gotten on his face.
When Shen Zhou saw him, half of his body was soaked by the rain, and his knuckles were cold, but he did not feel cold.
He walked up the steps, stared at Yu Lin without blinking, and his tightly pressed lips finally relaxed. He looked at Yu Lin’s lowered eyelashes and his unconsciously pressed lips, and his numb heart finally came to life and began to pump blood out.
Shen Zhou felt the warmth gradually return to his body from the inside out. He half-knelt, lowered his eyes to look at Yu Lin, and after a while, he did not wake him up, and went out to help with the disaster relief.
The rescue team was very professional, and the disaster situation in Huangjing Village was not too serious. By noon, the number of people and supplies had been counted.
Yu Lin had just woken up and was a little cold from the wind. He got up, tightened the sweater jacket on his body, and just as he sat up a little straighter, he found that a thicker jacket had slipped off his body.
He was stunned for a moment, and looked up in a daze, and saw Shen Zhou in the dim light of the village.
Shen Zhou’s trousers were stained with mud, and his eyes were dark in the light blue rain. He stood by the house in the village, like a scene from a dream.
Yu Lin looked at him, and as if he had sensed something, he lowered his eyes, and after a pause, he strode over.
“Why are you here?” Yu Lin’s voice was hoarse. He supported himself and sat up, and reached out to wipe the dust from Shen Zhou’s face.
Shen Zhou bent down to let him, and the light in the health center was dim.
Shen Zhou grunted, “En,” unscrewed the water in his hand and handed it over. The water was warm. Yu Lin drank it in small sips. Shen Zhou was half-kneeling and reached out to wipe the mud from his face. The first time, he didn’t wipe it clean, so he took a tissue, dipped it in water, and wiped it again.
Yu Lin’s cheeks were a little cold.
Shen Zhou reached out and placed his hand on them. He looked at the scratch on Yu Lin’s chin, and his Adam’s apple bobbed slightly.
Yu Lin did not understand and looked over. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Shen Zhou said, let out a light breath, and his thumb fell and rested on Yu Lin’s eyelids.
He covered Yu Lin’s eyes and said in a hoarse voice, “I was fine at home, so I came to see you. Go back to sleep for a while.”
He reached out and straightened Yu Lin’s collar.
Yu Lin’s eyelashes moved slightly. He lowered his head between his fingers and looked at his long and slender, scarred hands. He reached out and touched them, and his eyelids closed lightly. “Okay.”
He didn’t know if it was because Shen Zhou had come, but Yu Lin suddenly became sleepy again. In the vast, cold rain, he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes again.
As more and more people joined, the disaster situation in Jiangguan was brought under control in a dozen or so days. Yu Lin and Shen Zhou had been helping all along. When the water had receded, they had returned to Ansui with the trapped people.
The disaster situation in Jiangguan this year had been reported several times, and a string of names was often scrolling on the news.
Yu Lin was about to graduate, and the professor had plans for him to stay at the school. There were always competitions and coursework.
Shen Zhou was learning to do business with his boss and was so busy that he had no time. It just so happened that the boss’s industry had expanded, and he had given him a large sum of money. Shen Zhou had taken the money and had started to invest in the real estate industry.
He was silent and had invested in a few department stores in certain locations. Those places would be worth a lot in ten years, but now they were just inconspicuous abandoned buildings.
In just a few years, he and Yu Lin had come to Ansui, and the days of silence under the expensive taxis and houses seemed to be a thing of the past.
This year had passed very quickly.
When Yu Lin graduated, he had grown a few more centimeters. When he had his physical examination and reported his height, he had subconsciously reported 179.
The teacher who was measuring his height had laughed when he heard this and had said to him, “It’s 181 now.”
Yu Lin was stunned for a moment. At night, he had called Shen Zhou from a public phone booth, and holding the receiver, he had told Shen Zhou about this under the warm light of the flying insects.
Shen Zhou was talking about business in Linyang. The glass of the hotel was very clear and bright. He leaned against the balcony, was silent when he heard this, and after a long while, he said in a hoarse voice, “I passed by Guangyang today and saw that they were all selling chocolate there. I had someone bring you a box.”
He said, “Eat it first. I’ll be back soon.”
Yu Lin was stunned for a moment, only then realizing that Shen Zhou had missed him.
***
They were apart more than they were together. This time, the two of them did not see each other until the end of the year.
The weather had turned cold again, and the water was freezing. The school was full of students who were dragging their luggage and planning to go home.
Yu Lin was drawing in the studio. When he was tired, he put down his pen and planned to rest for a while, but when he looked up, he saw Shen Zhou standing outside the glass window.
Shen Zhou had been standing outside for an unknown amount of time, and his body was covered with the cold air of the snowflakes.
He looked in, did not speak, and was in a black suit, which made him look silent and sharp in the winter.
He had started from scratch, and although he was not old, his business was booming. His features were restrained, and in these two years, his emotions had become more and more unreadable.
A passing student had accidentally bumped into him, and thinking that he was a parent, he had quickly apologized, “Uncle, are you okay?”
Shen Zhou paused for a moment, looked at the other party, and shook his head. “I’m fine.”
The other party let out a sigh of relief.
Yu Lin looked at them and couldn’t help but laugh. He put away his paintbrush and went out. There was snow at the door, and a string of footprints had been left on it. The branches of the flowerbed were bare and there were no leaves.
Yu Lin asked, “You’re back. Was everything smooth?”
“En.” Shen Zhou reached out, held his cold hand, and was about to put it in his pocket when Yu Lin suddenly opened his palm and placed it on top of his.
The two of them held hands and walked forward. In the snow-covered campus of Ansui University, they were extremely eye-catching, but also ordinary.
At night, the two of them went to eat at a clay pot restaurant at the school gate. This old clay pot restaurant had large portions and was delicious. At the beginning, they would often come here to eat.
The owner still remembered them. When she saw them, she put down the thing in her hand and greeted them with a smile, “It’s you. I haven’t seen you in a long time. What are you eating today?”
She looked at the two of them, then turned to Yu Lin, and remembered how the young man had grown from thin to his current tall and slender appearance, and couldn’t help but sigh, “Time really flies. You’re about to graduate, right? You and your brother have a really good relationship.”
Yu Lin was stunned for a moment and replied with a smile, “Yes.”
It was too cold, and snowflakes were falling on the road. After they came out from eating, Yu Lin looked at the streetlight surrounded by snowflakes on the side of the road and suddenly raised his arm and bumped Shen Zhou’s.
“I haven’t played in a long time.” Yu Lin looked at the snow pile and said, “Shen Zhou, do you still remember the snowman?”
In the first winter when they had just arrived in Ansui, Shen Zhou would sometimes not come home at night. The next day, when Yu Lin got up, he would find a small snowman at the door.
The snowman would melt quickly, but the next day, it would stand up straight again, and he would know that Shen Zhou had been back.
“I remember.” Shen Zhou said, turned around and straightened Yu Lin’s scarf, and held Yu Lin’s hand, and led him to the snow-covered flowerbed.
Shen Zhou half-knelt and made a snowman. He had lived alone in the town since he was a child and knew a little of everything. The snowman he made was beautiful and would not fall apart.
He could also make all kinds of animals and place them on the flowerbed, like ornaments under the dim yellow streetlights in winter.
Yu Lin bent down and picked up a rabbit, and after looking at it for a while, he held it by Shen Zhou’s cheek, turned the rabbit’s nose, and gently touched the corner of Shen Zhou’s lips.
“Is it cold?” he asked.
Shen Zhou looked up and held his wrist.
Yu Lin stood under the streetlight, his features quiet as he looked over, and his amber eyes were filled with a halo of light.
In the lonely years of his youth, Shen Zhou would never have thought that he would have such a lover. They had come out of an inconspicuous town, and they would be together for the rest of their lives.
Shen Zhou turned his head and kissed Yu Lin’s wrist.
The cold outside was deep. When they got home, they first ran some hot water and took a hot bath.
Yu Lin came out, drying his hair. Shen Zhou held a hairdryer and gently kicked the stool by his leg.
In this winter of long-awaited reunion, time no longer seemed to be a distance. They leaned against each other, drying their hair, and doing the most ordinary things.
And then they naturally kissed.
Yu Lin had been carefully raised by Shen Zhou for many years, and his craving for body temperature was no longer overly pathological.
He responded gently to Shen Zhou, and even though he had noticed that Shen Zhou’s desire for control had become stronger and stronger in recent years, he did not refuse.
A fleeting car light flashed outside the window. Yu Lin’s waist felt a chill. He lowered his eyes in a daze, and fumbled with his hands, only to find that he had unknowingly sat on Shen Zhou’s waist.
Shen Zhou was covering his eyes.
He couldn’t use any strength, and he couldn’t see. He could only look up slightly and let Shen Zhou kiss him while holding his calf.
Shen Zhou’s movements were gentle, but there was no room for maneuver. He had a strong possessiveness for his own things in his bones, but it had been hidden under a cold skin before.
After the Jiangguan flood, for a long time, he had had a tendency to keep Yu Lin in captivity.
Yu Lin had not resisted, so after a while, Shen Zhou had given up this idea on his own.
But in its place, when he was doing these things, he would use a black silk ribbon to tie Yu Lin’s eyes.
The black-haired young man sat on his waist, his skin cold and white, long and slender, and a black silk ribbon was loosely tied over his eyes. The lack of vision made him exceptionally quiet, as if he belonged only to him, with no room for resistance.
Shen Zhou looked at him, paused for a moment, and his movements suddenly became gentle, and then he kissed him silently.
Compared to his increasing desire for control, Shen Zhou was exceptionally gentle this time.
When it was almost over, Yu Lin called his name. He gently pulled off the silk ribbon and kissed Yu Lin’s eyes.
Yu Lin looked up and touched his cheek, and said softly, “Shen Zhou, next time you come back, you can go home and rest first. I’ll always be yours. I won’t run away.”
Shen Zhou was stunned for a moment, lowered his head slightly, and bit his fingertip. “Okay.”
