Chapter 9: The Cannon Fodder Roommate of the Unlimited Flow Male Lead (Part 9)
On the second night, the entire dormitory building was deep and silent, the concrete walls reflecting the dim yellow light.
Because of the fruitless search during the day, most of the players were in a foul mood when they returned to the dormitory building.
Especially when they remembered that the three-day deadline was approaching, and the shadow of death was drawing near.
The players were not always together. The two at the top of the leaderboards often came and went like ghosts.
The other players, lacking a sense of security, could only travel in groups. As he was opening the door, Chenguang lowered his head and suddenly punched the wall. “What if we were wrong…”
Mu Guang was getting his key next door. Hearing this, he was stunned and turned to ask, “What do you mean?”
Chenguang’s expression was solemn. “Didn’t you notice? All the electrical problems were found on the first day. We didn’t find anything today. But if it catches fire again tonight… it proves that our previous direction was all wrong.”
He turned his head. “Perhaps the safety hazard isn’t what it literally means.”
“…” Nothing in this world could be deduced with common sense. Understanding his subtext, Mu Guang’s face turned pale.
“…You’re saying, the real safety hazard hasn’t been found yet?”
Chenguang shook his head. “I don’t know.”
He added, “But it’s very likely.”
A suspicious silence enveloped the gloomy corridor.
After a while, Mu Guang suddenly shivered and said anxiously, “Then what do we do?”
Chenguang looked at him but hadn’t replied yet when Chen Jian walked up from behind, his expression extremely agitated.
He gently scratched his belly and said anxiously, “Let’s hurry inside. I’m a little sleepy.”
“…” Chenguang turned his head, always feeling that his words were incoherent and nonsensical.
Mu Guang was more carefree and didn’t notice such details, still feeling dejected.
He held out the key. Chen Jian took it and quickly opened the door to go inside.
In 3107, Aihao, with a calm expression, opened the door with a click.
His movement startled the two silent people. Two pairs of terrified eyes simultaneously looked at him.
He was thoughtful, tilted his head slightly, and shot them a glance. “Why not just go to bed early tonight?”
“…”
What a refreshing comfort that was.
***
When the voices from outside faintly drifted in, Yu Lin was actually already sitting on his bed, but he was the only one in the room.
The whispers came through the mottled iron door. Yu Lin glanced at the door but didn’t join in. Instead, he looked down at the silver pistol in his hand.
Su Huai seemed to have an extraordinary sensitivity to the dungeon world. He would always decide on his next move while others were still thinking.
It was just that he usually didn’t care about these things. Most of the time, he chose to stay by Yu Lin’s side.
So when Yu Lin had proposed during the day that he wanted to see if Chen Jian would go out at night and what he would do, Su Huai had thought of something and frowned slightly, but after a moment’s hesitation, he had still agreed.
After returning, he had stuffed the silver pistol into Yu Lin’s hand, arranged some things around the dormitory, then pried open the balcony and climbed out the window.
He hadn’t returned, even by midnight.
At midnight, the fire and screams repeated just like the day before.
The scorching heat snaked up the walls, seeming to get even closer to one’s skin than the day before, as if it would burn everyone to death in the next second.
The moment the fire started to spread, the bells in the corridor began to ring crazily.
In fact, many people in the dormitory were not asleep, but the thought of the densely packed, blood-red talismans hanging above made them lose any desire to come out and watch.
Yu Lin sat on the edge of the bed, not feeling sleepy. The lights were on in the room. He lowered his eyes to look at the small, palm-sized silver pistol in his hand.
As he was looking, the door outside was suddenly knocked on lightly. A moment later, Su Huai said, “It’s me.”
Yu Lin sat on the bed, glanced at the gun in his hand, then looked up at the rust on the door, and ignored him.
Su Huai stood outside, silent for a moment, and seemed to have given up.
But soon, a rustling sound was heard. Su Huai pressed against the door and said again, “I’m injured. Let me in.”
He had a stubbornness that wouldn’t give up until he achieved his goal. Yu Lin paused, then had no choice but to look up and reply, “You can go back and apply some medicine.”
“…” The Su Huai outside the door scratched the door unwillingly.
A few seconds later, a few ants quickly crawled in from under the door.
Their appearance was just like real-world ants, but they were larger, about three to four times the size of real ants, and they were colorful.
Bizarre dungeon products. Yu Lin lowered his eyes, his body instinctively feeling a little cold.
But perhaps it was because his brain had defaulted to these animals being ants, or for some other reason.
Yu Lin lowered his eyes to look at them, bent down slightly, and waved the silver pistol lightly on the ground in front of them, before he even had a chance to pull the trigger.
“…”
A few seconds later, the few menacing ants, as if they had encountered something extremely terrifying, stiffened, slammed on the brakes, and turned around to run away with a thud.
A sound of unwilling scratching came from outside.
“…” Yu Lin reasonably suspected that these ants didn’t even count as monsters.
Apart from this interlude, nothing else happened outside.
Su Huai climbed in through the glass window at 1:00 AM. He landed on the balcony, pushed open the door, and just as he entered the room, he suddenly stopped.
He sensed an unusual aura in the room, his face turning slightly cold.
He walked quickly to the bed. Seeing Yu Lin sitting quietly on the edge of the bed, his expression relaxed slightly. He bent down and gently touched Yu Lin’s fingers.
When he felt the coldness in his palm, he frowned and silently warmed Yu Lin’s hand in his own.
He sat down beside him. Yu Lin tilted his head to look at him and softly explained what had just happened. Su Huai listened and grunted, “En.”
The atmosphere in the dormitory was quiet. After a moment, Su Huai looked at Yu Lin and suddenly said, “Chen Jian went out.”
He held the slightly warmer fingers in his palm, paused, and asked, “Do you want to go and see?”
He turned his head to meet the gaze of the quiet-featured Yu Lin.
He said calmly, “The dungeon world is ever-changing. You won’t always be able to do nothing. I was just… worried that you would encounter danger in the first dungeon.”
That’s why I followed you personally, to help you gain as much experience as possible.
Not because I’m taking advantage of you liking me to control you in return.
Yu Lin was stunned for a moment. He hadn’t expected him to interpret his desire to act on his own in this way.
It wasn’t entirely correct, but his ears were inexplicably a little hot.
After a moment of silence, Yu Lin raised his hand, gently placed his fingers in his palm, and nodded. “En, I know.”
Yu Lin placed his fingers in Su Huai’s hand and followed him out the door.
He remembered that part of the reason he had chosen to join the Mission Department in the first place was to experience all kinds of different lives.
It was only later, when the leaderboard disputes arose and the competition between departments to grind for points became too intense, making it almost impossible to have a relaxed experience, that he had become lazy.
That kind of high-intensity, day-after-day ranking mission, although the rewards were rich…
But for Yu Lin, it was actually not as comfortable as sitting on a lounge chair and sunbathing under the spring sky.
That’s why Yu Lin had made the decision to max out his points with a few high-point Long Aotian worlds and then take an indefinite vacation.
It was just that due to an accident, he needed to make up for the original points. And in this world where he was supposed to be cannon fodder with no sense of experience.
He seemed to have, for the first time in a long time, unexpectedly, felt the taste of being moved.
As he was being led out the door by Su Huai, Yu Lin subconsciously looked back and was surprised to find that the entire door of 3109 was covered with all kinds of dungeon items.
Densely packed, everything one could wish for, perfectly sealed.
As if something important was hidden inside.
Yu Lin lowered his eyes, his heart stirring slightly. He realized that this was probably why the ghosts had never dared to enter, and also why Su Huai had been at ease to leave.
He had hidden him very well before he left.
