The dorm, which had been slightly noisy, instantly fell silent again.
Summer nights without AC were stuffy, but suddenly a chill swept in.
Yun Xueqing instinctively looked up to see a woman with disheveled hair in a white dress appear in the mirror.
Her hair hung entirely over her face, hiding her features.
He glanced once, then lowered his head to continue quietly reading his textbook.
He flipped through earnestly, wondering if he could find answers to the exam questions in this biology book to check his accuracy.
Unfortunately, after going through the whole thing, no answers appeared. He put it back on the shelf and picked up the language arts book.
During the switch, he glanced at the mirror again. The woman in it was closer now, as if she’d emerge in the next second.
Yun Xueqing looked away, opened his textbook, and thought idly: At least I have a book servant to keep me company.
He read the language arts book intently, ignoring the danger right in front of him.
Frustrated at failing to scare him, the Female Ghost gritted her teeth and poked her body out.
Yun Xueqing was focused on his book when a cold sensation crept onto his arm—like some frigid soft-bodied creature slithering over it.
He looked up to see the Female Ghost had emerged halfway from the mirror, her long hair draping down and blocking half his textbook page.
Her slender hand rested on his forearm—snow-white skin veined with blue, fingertips painted red like nail polish on a corpse frozen in a cold storage locker.
Yun Xueqing calmly brushed aside the hair blocking his textbook and pushed away the hand touching his arm.
The Female Ghost thought he was resisting her touch and was about to tease him even more aggressively. But in the next second, her hand was gripped by him—fingers interlocked.
The Female Ghost: ?
Without the mischievous hand in the way, Yun Xueqing read his book even more comfortably.
He had to admit, her hand was ice-cold, like a block of ice that wouldn’t cause frostbite. It was the perfect tool to beat the summer heat.
He held her hand and continued reading.
While Yun Xueqing handled it with ease, Ye Xuechun was far less composed.
He had been seriously reading his book, but when he looked up and craned his neck, the Female Ghost suddenly appeared in the mirror, startling him so badly he nearly cried out.
But remembering the rule—”After 11 p.m., no noise is allowed to disturb your roommate’s studies”—he forcibly held it back.
He figured if he ignored her, he could pretend she didn’t exist. But in the next second, the Female Ghost actually stuck her head out!
He shot up from his chair, instinctively wanting to open the door and run. But the dorm rule flashed in his mind:
[No leaving the dorm at night.]
Ye Xuechun didn’t dare go out, but he also didn’t dare return to his desk to study. He subconsciously turned to Yun Xueqing for help.
He saw the other focused intently on his book.
Seeing his classmate studying so diligently sparked a bit of motivation in him. But in the next second, his gaze fell on Yun Xueqing’s and the Female Ghost’s interlocked fingers.
The Female Ghost struggled desperately to pull her hand free, but Yun Xueqing held on tightly, refusing to let her go.
Ye Xuechun: “…”
What a scene from Overbearing Student Forces Love: Female Ghost, Don’t Run.
Ye Xuechun felt a bit numb. He sat back down and continued reading.
After seeing Yun Xueqing’s handling of the situation, even with the Female Ghost nearby, he still felt like he was sitting on pins and needles—but at least he wasn’t jumping out of his skin in fear.
Time passed unnoticed. The chilling aura gradually dissipated, and the Female Ghost retreated into the mirror and vanished.
With the danger gone, Ye Xuechun subconsciously let out a breath. He was just about to speak when Yun Xueqing suddenly stood up and covered his mouth.
Ye Xuechun’s eyes widened as he looked at Yun Xueqing in confusion.
Yun Xueqing confirmed he wouldn’t speak, then stepped back and released him. He pointed at the mirror.
The mirror appeared empty, reflecting their figures. But at the very edge, a corner of white clothing was visible.
The Female Ghost hadn’t left—she was lurking in the shadows, spying on them!
Ye Xuechun broke out in cold sweat, while Yun Xueqing had already returned to his seat and resumed reading.
He swallowed hard, quietly pulled out his chair, and followed Yun Xueqing’s example, studying while sitting on pins and needles.
Startled by the Female Ghost, Ye Xuechun was on high alert, every second dragging on like years. He lost track of time entirely.
When the school building’s clock struck twelve, his already taut nerves tightened even further, like a violin string stretched to its limit, ready to snap at any moment.
Unsure how much longer he had to sit there, his emotions nearly collapsed. Then he heard Yun Xueqing suddenly say, “Alright, time to rest.”
Ye Xuechun’s mind was still foggy as he dazedly followed the instruction. He stood up from his chair and asked, half a beat late, “We don’t have to study anymore?”
He pointed at the mirror, worried. “The one inside…” What if the ghost came out in the middle of the night and ate them?
Yun Xueqing didn’t answer. Instead, he pointed to the last dorm rule.
[Please reserve enough energy for the next day.]
Though not well-read, Ye Xuechun was quick on the uptake. He realized, “It’s already past midnight—it’s the next day now. So we need to conserve energy and don’t have to study anymore!”
Yun Xueqing nodded. “So, rest.”
Ye Xuechun said admiringly, “Xueqing, you’re amazing. We totally relied on you tonight.”
The other didn’t respond to that and instead said, “Your emotions are off.”
Ye Xuechun had a carefree personality. Though he seemed timid, he wasn’t the type to break down emotionally.
“Huh?” A tear slid from the corner of his eye. Ye Xuechun belatedly wiped it away with the back of his hand. “Yeah, it’s a bit weird.”
Yun Xueqing frowned and voiced his suspicion. “This dorm might amplify emotions. Be careful not to let it exploit you.”
Ye Xuechun nodded vigorously. Looking at the calm Yun Xueqing, he curiously asked, “Xueqing, aren’t you scared?”
Human emotions were the hardest to control, especially fear—the most uncontrollable one.
Fear came easily; only courage could counter it, but most people lacked courage.
Yun Xueqing paused for a moment before replying, “These two Female Ghosts are the lowest-level Weirds. They’re no threat to us.”
The real danger was the Dorm Supervisor who would be drawn in if they broke the rules.
That mountain of flesh looked terrifying, and its Weird Power was indeed astonishing. Even from a distance, Yun Xueqing had felt intense pressure.
Ye Xuechun understood the implication and nodded. “Can we rest now?”
“Go to sleep. We have to get up early for class tomorrow.”
Though he said that, Yun Xueqing worried the Weirds might cause trouble in the night, so he only dozed lightly.
Unexpectedly, the night passed without incident, and they slept until dawn.
More precisely, it was still dark when they had to get up for morning self-study.
Ye Xuechun struggled to rise painfully. In this crisis-ridden environment, he didn’t dare oversleep and got up promptly.
The two packed and washed up. Then a third voice came from the vast space: “So noisy!”
Yun Xueqing, books in hand for class, looked toward the third bed—which had been empty but was now occupied by a lump. “Shen Qing?”
Shen Qing poked his somewhat gloomy head out upon hearing his name.
Only then did Yun Xueqing see his appearance clearly.
Shen Qing must have fought bitterly with the hospital monsters. Fine wounds scarred his face.
Contrary to his irritable and gloomy temperament, his features were quite refined and youthful—indistinctly boyish, passing for a high schooler.
Yun Xueqing figured he had returned in the middle of the night, quietly, without causing a fuss. It was surprisingly considerate.
So he kindly reminded him, “The class bell rings at seven.”
“Scram.”
“You’re ungrateful after I remind you? Ungrateful wolf!” Ye Xuechun had finished washing up and was hurriedly grabbing his bag. “Ignore him. Let’s go!”
It was still dim outside. Dim yellow streetlights illuminated the hurried figures of students, stretching their shadows long until they faded and vanished completely.
Before seven, all the classroom lights in the teaching building were already on. The two climbed the stairs and entered a classroom.
They arrived early, but not earlier than the other students. The classroom, which should have been empty at this hour, was packed. Study notes lay before them as they mechanically recited the contents.
Ye Xuechun sincerely sighed, “Even the Man-Machines are so diligent. Looks like I need to step it up too.”
The classroom’s recitation stopped in unison. Everyone put down their books and fixed their gazes on him.
Ye Xuechun didn’t panic. Instead, he flashed a grin showing eight teeth. “Everyone tired of studying? How about I sing a song for you all? What do you want to hear?”
Their gazes didn’t shift because of his words; they continued staring at him.
Unfortunately, the guy was thick-skinned, treating them like real classmates. He said amiably, “Really not requesting? I sing pretty well.”
Upon hearing that, they all turned their heads back and ignored him.
Seeing no more attention on him, Ye Xuechun quietly sighed in relief.
The group recitation hadn’t gone on long when the biology teacher from yesterday’s exam arrived to proctor.
He pulled a stack of papers from his black briefcase. “I’ve stayed up late grading your tests. Not just students need to work hard—teachers do too.”
He adjusted his glasses and began ranting, slamming the papers on the podium angrily. “What did I say last night? Failing means punishment! Yet three students still failed!”
His angry face suddenly twisted into a bizarre smile, as if he’d been waiting eagerly. “Alright, now for the names of the three failures.”
“Zhang Qie, 59 points.”
He feigned regret. “Too bad—just one point short. Time for teacher’s punishment.”
A bespectacled boy in the audience abruptly stood from his seat, expression numb, and took his paper.
In the next second, before anyone could react, he tore the failing paper to shreds and flipped over the windowsill without hesitation, jumping!
His body slammed into the ground with a “splat.” Ye Xuechun shuddered, his pupils trembling as he stared at the biology teacher on stage.
But the teacher merely sighed calmly, feigning disappointment. “Poor mental resilience. If you’re scared of punishment, why not study harder instead of failing so badly?”
Ye Xuechun’s heart shook. He subconsciously looked around.
The surrounding classmates were like mechanical puppets—heartless fakes. Their expressions and movements were utterly numb, with no reaction whatsoever.
As if nothing had happened, no one had died.
The biology teacher shook his head and continued, “These next two failed even worse. No effort at all.”
He licked his lips, suppressing his excitement. “You two, get ready for punishment.”
