Chapter 61
Even though he had anticipated this day, when it finally arrived, Hugh Elvis found himself at a loss for words. He paused, his hand hovering over Shi Nuo’s shoulder.
Shi Nuo broke the silence. “You’re leaving soon?”
“Yes,” Hugh replied softly, sitting down beside him.
His hand was taken, their fingers interlacing, and Shi Nuo looked down, his voice muffled. “When will you be back?”
Hugh Elvis didn’t answer immediately, considering his words carefully. “I can’t say for sure. It’s been ten years. I don’t know the current state of the Elvis family’s…internal affairs. I’ll have to assess the situation when I get there.”
Shi Nuo’s eyes dimmed slightly, a flicker of disappointment he quickly suppressed. Wu Wu was one year old now, only vaguely aware that his father occasionally left and returned with gifts, his knowledge of the vast world outside limited.
Hugh, after another moment of silence, looked up at Shi Nuo, his expression serious. “Six months. You and Wu Wu wait here for six months. Then, whether I succeed or not, I’ll come back for you.”
“Will it be dangerous for you?” Shi Nuo asked anxiously.
A faint smile touched Hugh’s lips. “No. The reason I’m not taking you with me now is because of Yarlin. I need to assess his resources, his influence. Six months should be enough time to…prepare.”
Knowing Hugh’s cautious nature, his reluctance to make promises he couldn’t keep, Shi Nuo relaxed slightly. Six months wasn’t that long.
“But…” Hugh’s brow furrowed slightly, a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. “Everything will be unfamiliar. There are…potential threats. Before reaching the Elvis family, I might have to…sever the pheromone bond, to conceal your existence.”
Shi Nuo froze. The pheromone bond, created by the Alpha’s permanent marking, was a lasting connection between mates, their pheromones mingled, a public declaration of their relationship.
Nowadays, permanent marks could be removed with a simple medical procedure.
Both Alphas and Omegas, after a breakup or divorce, could have the bond severed, allowing them to move on to new relationships.
He had never heard of anyone severing the bond themselves.
Hugh, seeing Shi Nuo’s confusion, explained, “I’ll use my white fire. It’s a part of me, a mutation of my genes, and I can control it. I’ll only burn away the external pheromone signature, the one that can be detected by others. The internal bond will remain. The marking won’t be affected.”
He paused, then added, “This planet’s coordinates haven’t been publicly disclosed. It was originally Elvis family property, transferred to my name by my father, but some within the family know its location. Yarlin knows.”
“If they feel threatened, and if they can’t harm me directly, they might retaliate against you and Wu Wu.”
“Concealing your existence is just a precaution.”
Wu Wu was napping in the bedroom, and Hugh glanced towards the door. “They tried to harm me before, when I was a child, just to secure the position of heir. They have no scruples.”
Wu Wu was only a year old, innocent and vulnerable, and he couldn’t risk taking him and Shi Nuo with him until the threat was eliminated.
The outside world was dangerous and unpredictable.
Hugh Elvis was also anxious, unsure if his decision was the right one, but as long as Yarlin remained unaware of Shi Nuo and Wu Wu’s existence, this planet was the safest place for them. And his own departure would draw Yarlin’s attention away from them.
“I understand,” Shi Nuo said softly. “It’s only six months. We have everything we need here, plenty of food. And winter is almost over. I’ll…I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine.”
“Mm,” Hugh pulled him into a comforting embrace.
After a moment of quiet intimacy, he said, “I’ve checked all the systems. If anything malfunctions, have the robot repair it. Don’t try to fix it yourself.”
“Okay,” Shi Nuo agreed.
Hugh thought for a moment. “The day after tomorrow. I’ll leave after lunch.”
Prolonging the inevitable wouldn’t make it any easier.
“Okay,” Shi Nuo whispered.
The Alpha’s pheromones, the familiar cold lotus fragrance, enveloped him, a comforting presence.
A warm hand caressed his waist, and he shivered slightly, his eyes downcast, silently accepting the Alpha’s touch.
The sweet scent of their mingled pheromones filled the warm, comfortable room, a stark contrast to the cold, harsh world outside.
The two figures on the sofa, their bodies intertwined, their size difference striking, their passion evident.
The strong, lean Alpha held the Omega close, his body almost shielding Shi Nuo completely.
Shi Nuo’s scent gland was bitten, his upper body sprawled across the sofa, his head turned, the Alpha’s pheromones surging into him, a potent, possessive claim.
Even after so many times, this forceful marking still made him tremble, his body responding involuntarily.
Hugh, rarely gentle, was surprisingly tender today.
Shi Nuo’s eyes lost their focus, his body slick with sweat, the warmth of his skin, the sweet fragrance of his pheromones, intoxicating.
The sweet scent of tea olive blossoms, with its subtle hint of bitterness, was addictive, and Hugh Elvis, like a wild beast, nuzzled his face against Shi Nuo’s skin, licking and sniffing.
The Omega, completely surrendered to the Alpha’s touch, moaned softly, his pleasure evident, and the white-haired man, encouraged, his desire intensifying, continued his ministrations.
Wave after wave of pleasure washed over Shi Nuo, leaving him breathless, his mouth open in a silent scream.
His body, having given birth, was no longer as innocent, a new, subtle maturity in its responses.
Hugh Elvis was enthralled, his desire for the Omega insatiable, both in his innocent youth and now, ripe and yielding.
After the initial shock, Shi Nuo’s voice returned, and he whimpered softly, embarrassed by his own unrestrained cries.
The white-haired man held him close, comforting him with gentle kisses and soft words.
The passionate encounter ended, and Shi Nuo lay in Hugh’s arms, tears streaming down his face, his pale skin flushed, his beauty even more striking in this vulnerable state, a delicate blush at the corners of his eyes.
Hugh had learned how to soothe his Omega, a single kiss enough to calm him.
Shi Nuo, comforted by the gentle kiss, wrapped his arms around the Alpha’s neck, tentatively returning the kiss, his lips brushing against Hugh’s.
Hugh held him closer, deepening the kiss.
His tears subsided, and by the time Shi Nuo realized their position had shifted, it was too late.
He was sitting on Hugh’s lap, and although slightly annoyed, he still instinctively moved with the Alpha, his body responding to the familiar rhythm.
His flat stomach, distended from the pregnancy, suddenly bulged.
Shi Nuo, seeing this, froze, his eyes widening in alarm.
A large hand steadied him, and he was flipped onto his back, the Alpha’s body covering his, the thrusts sudden and deep.
Long Xu had transformed into its starship form, a sleek, dark gray vessel.
Wu Wu, who could walk now, wanted to go inside, and Shi Nuo took him to the cockpit for a while.
The small white wolf, bathed the night before, its fur fluffy and clean, looked like a white cloud.
Wu Wu, delighted, explored the familiar space, sniffing and exploring, not yet able to run, but unafraid of the mecha, which it had known since it was born.
Hugh Elvis had already packed his belongings, a single suitcase, most of his clothes still in the closet.
He stood before Shi Nuo, his hand gently caressing the back of his neck. “The pheromone extract is in the refrigerated container in the closet. There are also two doses in the kitchen and living room. Remember where they are.”
He would be gone for at most six months, and Shi Nuo’s heat was due during the second month of summer. If he couldn’t return in time, or if Shi Nuo’s heat arrived early, the pheromone extract would help ease his discomfort.
“My clothes also carry my scent. If you have trouble sleeping, keep one near you,” Hugh added.
“Okay,” Shi Nuo whispered, his eyes filled with a quiet sadness.
Hugh bent down and kissed his forehead twice, his voice hoarse. “Don’t worry. I’ll be back for you. Six months, at most.”
A loud thud made them both turn their heads.
Wu Wu had knocked over Hugh’s suitcase, which had been placed on the floor. It wagged its tail, its large, innocent-looking eyes wide, but its ears were flattened against its head, a clear sign of guilt.
Seeing that it wasn’t hurt, Shi Nuo and Hugh exchanged a look and turned back to each other.
Wu Wu, tilting its head, ignored by the adults, whimpered softly, then, its attention caught by something else, trotted over, its chubby body swaying, and began sniffing curiously at the fallen suitcase.
Hugh, keeping an eye on the cub, said, “The livestock greenhouse is also set to automatic. If you want meat, the robot will slaughter and process the animals. Don’t let Wu Wu see any blood. I’ll teach him how to hunt when I return.”
“Okay,” Shi Nuo agreed.
“Eat the baozi, dumplings, and desserts first. Don’t keep them too long. And if they’re not fresh, don’t eat them,” Hugh added.
“Okay,” Shi Nuo nodded. Hugh had made those for him in the past few days.
They had everything they needed: vegetables, fresh meat, eggs. Hugh was leaving the small spacecraft behind, so Shi Nuo could use it to travel to the mountains with the household robot and Wu Wu, to gather mushrooms and berries, or simply to explore.
The spacecraft was equipped with weapons, and Hugh had installed a powerful defense system on the household robot, capable of neutralizing any threats within a one-kilometer radius.
Having given all the necessary instructions, Hugh Elvis pursed his lips, then, unable to think of anything else, said huskily, “I should go now.”
Shi Nuo’s arms tightened around Hugh’s waist, then he reluctantly let go. “Okay,” he mumbled. “I’ll take Wu Wu down.”
Hearing its name, the small white wolf turned and, as Shi Nuo lifted it, let out a soft howl towards Hugh, waving its paws.
Shi Nuo had taught it this gesture, and whenever Hugh left on a supply run, it would wave goodbye.
Hugh ruffled the cub’s fur, kissed its head, and said softly, “Be good.”
“Mm, mm—” the cub, oblivious to the meaning of his words, let out happy little sounds.
Hugh smiled, a hint of sadness in his eyes.
Shi Nuo stood at the doorway, holding Wu Wu, and watched as the starship’s hatch closed, Hugh waving from inside, mimicking Wu Wu’s gesture.
The starship’s engines roared, a powerful, almost beastly sound, and it slowly ascended, then, after a brief pause, shot up into the sky, quickly disappearing.
Shi Nuo, holding the cub, watched until it was out of sight.
Wu Wu, accustomed to his father’s occasional departures, assumed he would return, as always, with Long Xu, bringing back gifts and surprises, like new formula, clothes, and toys.
But when it woke up the next morning, its father was still gone.
