Married to My Bro 6

Chapter 6

According to Liang Xusheng’s script, their “transformation” would begin with a drunken one-night stand. Afterward, they just needed to coordinate their story, get “caught” on a date by their parents, obtain a marriage certificate, and the deed would be done.

However, things turned out far more comical than they anticipated.

They chose a day when Yang Yue and Fu Shu were shopping together, planning to stage a “chance encounter” at the same mall. Liang Xusheng, confident in his acting skills, picked up some clothes and held them up against Lu Xun, feigning intimacy, while Fu Shu and Yang Yue browsed nearby. The mothers, however, seemed oblivious, walking right past them.

Liang Xusheng: ?

Lu Xun: ?

“Did they not see us? No way,” Liang Xusheng muttered, putting the clothes back. They were two grown men, practically embracing! How could two middle-aged best friends miss that? “Did they see us?” he asked Lu Xun.

“They should have,” Lu Xun replied. He had seen Yang Yue glance at them.

Plan B: They entered a shoe store before the mothers arrived. Liang Xusheng sat down to try on shoes, and Lu Xun knelt beside him, personally helping him change them. Surely this was intimate enough? Yet, the mothers browsed the women’s section and left without a word.

Liang Xusheng: ?

Lu Xun: ?

Liang Xusheng gave Lu Xun a questioning look. How did they miss us again?

Lu Xun: I don’t know.

Plan C: the ultimate weapon. They bought ice cream and, as the mothers approached, began feeding each other, taking turns with their cones. This had to be enough to raise suspicions!

However, Yang Yue and Fu Shu simply walked past. “I want ice cream too,” one said.

“Let’s go get some,” the other replied.

Liang Xusheng: ???

Lu Xun: ?

No! Moms! Look at us! We’re on a date! Can’t you see your sons being all lovey-dovey?!

Liang Xusheng was about to lose it. They were practically gagging on their own sappiness, and their mothers were blind!

He couldn’t take it anymore. After leaving the mall, he called Fu Shu. “Mom, did you not see Lu Xun and me just now?”

“I saw you,” Fu Shu replied.

“Then… why…?” He couldn’t just ask if she had seen them on a date. “Why did you pretend not to see us?”

“You were shopping with your best friend, just like your Auntie Yang Yue and I were,” Fu Shu said calmly. “We were doing our own thing, you were doing yours. Auntie Yang Yue and I are used to it. You two have been close since childhood. You even held hands going to school.”

Liang Xusheng finally understood. Their closeness was so normal to their parents that they didn’t think anything of it.

In Lu Xun’s car, Liang Xusheng said, “We held hands?”

Lu Xun confirmed with an “mm.”

Liang Xusheng shuddered. “Gross.” He sighed. “What do we do now? They don’t suspect anything. They’re used to us being close.” He paused, then asked doubtfully, “Are we that close? I think we’re just normal friends.”

Lu Xun remained silent, driving. Liang Xusheng racked his brain. “Think, think… Besides trying on clothes and changing shoes and sharing ice cream, what else can we do to make it obvious we’re more than friends?”

Lu Xun glanced at him, then said calmly, “Kissing.”

“Huh? What?”

“Kissing,” Lu Xun repeated, still looking at the road.

Liang Xusheng: “…” Goosebumps erupted on his arms. “Isn’t that a bit extreme?”

Lu Xun escalated things. “Do you want to kiss me, or do you want me to kiss you?”

Liang Xusheng crossed his arms. “Do we really have to do this?”

Lu Xun’s tone was matter-of-fact. “They think we’re just close friends, not dating. So we need to do something that’s not typical for friends. Friends can share ice cream. Can they kiss?”

Liang Xusheng covered his mouth.

Lu Xun finally looked at him. “What are you covering your mouth for? Never been kissed?”

“As if you have,” Liang Xusheng mumbled from behind his hand.

“I haven’t,” Lu Xun admitted readily. “We’ll find another opportunity when our moms are together and kiss right in front of them.”

“Do we really have to?” Liang Xusheng asked again, still covering his mouth.

Lu Xun glanced at him. “Don’t want to get married anymore?”

Yes, I do! Liang Xusheng lowered his hand, steeling himself. Kissing his bro was nothing compared to the fake one-night stand he had already concocted in his script. He would even strip naked and lie next to Lu Xun if necessary. Anything to escape the endless blind dates.

“When are we doing this?” he asked.

Lu Xun tapped his finger on the steering wheel. “Let’s get it over with. Today.”

“Fine!”

Knowing that Fu Shu would be having dinner at Yang Yue’s that evening, they went straight there. Lu Zhang wasn’t home. Liang Xusheng peeled a banana and sprawled on the sofa, resuming his plotting. “When they get back, do we shock them immediately, or wait until after dinner?”

Lu Xun, always decisive, said, “Immediately.”

“Okay, so, in the living room where they’ll see us as soon as they walk in, or in your room?”

Lu Xun, taking a drink of water, barely hesitated. “Living room.”

“Okay.”

Two hours later, Liang Xusheng, peering from the balcony, waved frantically. “They’re back! They’re back!”

He rushed back to the living room, facing Lu Xun with the solemn determination of a soldier about to embark on a dangerous mission. But the thought of actually kissing Lu Xun… He felt every hair on his body stand on end.

He took a deep breath, looked at Lu Xun, and slowly raised his hands to cup his face. But as his hands reached Lu Xun’s face, he froze.

Lu Xun looked at him calmly. “You’re doing it?”

Liang Xusheng took another deep breath. “I’m doing it.” Then he changed his mind. “On second thought, you do it.” He couldn’t bring himself to do it. Kissing another guy… just the thought made him want to gag.

Lu Xun, unfazed, glanced at Liang Xusheng’s lips, then towards the door. Hearing a noise outside, without warning, he leaned in and kissed Liang Xusheng.

Liang Xusheng: !!!

The door opened. Yang Yue, walking ahead, was chatting with Fu Shu. Then they both saw the scene in the living room. Yang Yue’s eyes widened, and Fu Shu gasped.

Liang Xusheng, caught completely off guard: !!! Dude! A little warning?! You’re going all in! He held his breath, his lips suddenly burning, his attention split between the kiss and the doorway. Why wasn’t there any reaction?

Yang Yue and Fu Shu, after their initial shock, silently backed out of the doorway and gently closed the door.

Liang Xusheng opened his eyes. The doorway was empty. ? He pushed Lu Xun’s shoulder. Lu Xun broke the kiss and turned, also noticing the absence of their mothers.

“They’re at the door,” Lu Xun murmured, his voice, to Liang Xusheng’s surprise, strangely husky.

“Why did they…?” Before he could finish, Lu Xun, hearing the door open again, cupped his face and kissed him again.

Liang Xusheng: !!!

Outside, Fu Shu and Yang Yue peeked through the crack in the door, watching their sons kiss. They hadn’t mistaken the apartment, it wasn’t a hallucination, and they had definitely recognized their sons. They both covered their mouths in shock.

Inside, Liang Xusheng, the passive participant, felt his soul leave his body. My first kiss! Gone! Then he thought, Damn it, anything for this fake marriage!

Liang Xusheng, pressured by his mother for years to get married, finally snapped one day. He slammed his hand on the table and declared to his best friend, Lu Xun, "Your mom's hounding you to get married, my mom's hounding me to get married. Your mom wants you to find someone from a similar background, my mom wants me to find someone no worse off than our family. Our moms are best friends, and we're practically childhood sweethearts. Let's just get married!" Lu Xun was silent for three seconds. On the fourth, he nodded. "Okay, let's get married." Liang Xusheng thought marrying his bro Lu Xun meant freedom from his mother's nagging and a blissful continuation of his otaku lifestyle, filled with anime and games. He couldn't have been more wrong. Little did he know that the small changes he made to decorate their marital home, perfectly in line with both their tastes, actually hit the bullseye of Lu Xun's ideal vision of a home. The few meals he cooked for Lu Xun, waiting for him to come home and eat together, aligned perfectly with Lu Xun's yearning for married life. Even his accidentally exposed long, fair legs happened to be exactly Lu Xun's aesthetic preference. As a result, while Liang Xusheng remained relatively unfazed by married life, Lu Xun, right under his nose, had fallen head over heels in love. Liang Xusheng's view of Lu Xun: My bro. Lu Xun's view of Liang Xusheng: Wife, wife, wife.
