Chapter 9
“You’re just going to marry your bro like that?” Lulu asked incredulously, nearly choking on her milk tea.
Liang Xusheng shrugged, unfazed. “Yeah.”
“That’s even possible?!” Lulu exclaimed.
“Yup,” Liang Xusheng confirmed with another shrug.
Lulu gave him a thumbs-up. “Impressive! Congrats on escaping the blind date hell.” She clinked her milk tea against his.
“Thanks! That’s exactly how I feel,” Liang Xusheng said, beaming.
“How did you convince your friend?” Lulu asked, curious. She didn’t know Lu Xun personally, but she knew he was the CEO of the company that developed Rewind 6066, her favorite 3D mobile game. Thanks to Liang Xusheng, she had even gotten some free gacha pulls.
“No convincing needed. We’re both on the same page. We both hate blind dates. We came up with the idea together,” Liang Xusheng explained.
“That’s so nice, having someone to go through this with,” Lulu sighed. “So, you’re really getting married?”
“Yup, both families agreed,” Liang Xusheng said, scrolling through furniture options on his phone. “I’m already looking at furniture and appliances.”
Lulu peered at his phone. “Let me see.” Her eyes widened at the price of a sofa. “300,000 yuan for a sofa?! Is it made of gold?”
“If you knew how much Lu Xun’s apartment cost, you’d think this sofa is a bargain,” Liang Xusheng said calmly, sipping his milk tea.
A bargain? 300,000 yuan for a sofa is a bargain? Lulu had never heard of such a bargain.
“How much?” she asked.
Liang Xusheng held up a finger.
“Ten million?”
Liang Xusheng shook his head. “Add another zero.”
Lulu gaped. “Seriously? Is Rewind that profitable? It’s not as bad as those pay-to-win otome games from Garden.”
“His mom’s an artist, his dad’s a businessman,” Liang Xusheng explained.
“Oh,” Lulu said, understanding dawning. She gave him another thumbs-up. “So you’re marrying into a wealthy family.”
Liang Xusheng shrugged. “Just jumping from one wealthy family to another.”
Lulu clapped. “Since the CEO of Rewind is getting married, do you think they’ll give out free gacha pulls?”
“In your dreams,” Liang Xusheng said, still browsing furniture. He paused. “Maybe. I’ll ask.”
Later, he did ask, sending Lu Xun pictures of sofas. Lu Xun, likely busy, replied later: [I haven’t told the company yet. We’ll probably do an event after we set the date.] About the sofas, he said: [Whatever you like is fine.]
Knowing Lu Xun was busy and wouldn’t care much about furniture, Liang Xusheng replied: [I’ll handle it then. I won’t bother you with these things anymore.]
Lu Xun: [Okay.]
Liang Xusheng took charge of furnishing the apartment, documenting the process for his Douyin account. He usually posted about anime and manga, but this was good content too.
To his surprise, the first renovation video went viral. His old followers were amazed by the size and luxury of the apartment. New followers, analyzing the video, estimated the size of the living room to be at least 60-70 square meters.
Liang Xusheng, startled by the sudden surge in popularity, explained to his followers: It’s not my apartment, it’s my fiancé’s.
Huh? You’re marrying into a wealthy family! Wait, you’re getting married?, his followers asked.
Liang Xusheng confirmed: Yes, we’re engaged. We’ll get married soon. He wasn’t a celebrity; there was no need to hide it.
Congratulations!, his followers cheered.
A few days later, Fu Shu and Yang Yue consulted a fortune teller and set the dates for the legal marriage registration and the wedding ceremony. The registration would be in two weeks, and the wedding two months later. According to local customs, they couldn’t live together until the wedding night.
Liang Xusheng accelerated the furnishing process, using his own savings and allowance. He came from a wealthy family and had always received generous allowances. However, Lu Xun gave him a card, and both mothers transferred him large sums of money, telling him to buy whatever he wanted. He accepted without hesitation, used to receiving money from family and friends.
He was surprised to find he had over ten million yuan for furniture and appliances. He showed Lu Xun his bank account balance. “A lot, right? Getting married is so profitable!”
“Is it enough?” Lu Xun asked.
“Nope, I’m buying a 30-million-yuan bathtub and bed,” Liang Xusheng joked.
Lu Xun chuckled, knowing he was teasing. “Appliances are fine, but furniture can be a bottomless pit. If you want quality stuff, ten million isn’t enough, let alone thirty million.”
“We’re living in a concrete house, not a gold-plated one,” Liang Xusheng retorted. “It’s more than enough. I’ll use your mom’s and my mom’s money first. If there’s any left, we’ll split it.” He winked.
Lu Xun, amused and not caring about the money, found Liang Xusheng’s cheerful banter a welcome distraction from work. “Keep it all,” he said.
“That generous?” Liang Xusheng raised an eyebrow. “Okay, I’ll put the extra in another account for household expenses.”
“Since when are you paying for household expenses?” Lu Xun asked.
Liang Xusheng grinned. “I’m really marrying into a wealthy family? My in-laws are paying for the furniture, and I don’t have to worry about living expenses? How nice! So, will I also get a huge monthly allowance from my husband? Hubby?” He repeated the word “husband” playfully.
Lu Xun, initially silent, found himself strangely enjoying the term. “Sure, how much do you want?” he replied, playing along.
Liang Xusheng’s grin widened. “Seriously?” He laughed. “I’m kidding, hubby.”
“I’m serious, wifey,” Lu Xun said calmly.
Liang Xusheng shuddered, crossing his arms. “Oh god, I can’t handle that. I can call you hubby, but you can’t call me wifey.”
Lu Xun chuckled. “200,000 yuan a month? Is that enough?”
Liang Xusheng’s eyes widened. “Dude! 200,000?! Are you really going to keep me?” He made less than 20,000 a month from his online work.
He scooted closer to Lu Xun, clinging to his arm and leaning on his shoulder. “Having a husband is so nice! Hubby, keep me!”
Lu Xun, knowing he was joking, couldn’t help but smile. He ruffled Liang Xusheng’s hair. “Alright.” He had to admit, being called “hubby” wasn’t so bad.
Bro already bent HAHAAHAHA
