Chapter 4
Ding-a-ling—
The 6:30 alarm rang on time.
The first rays of morning sunlight shone through the gauze curtains into the room, bathing the entire bedroom in warmth.
“Mmm.” Yan Weiqiu stretched, groggily turned off the alarm, and was about to sleep for another ten minutes when he suddenly came to his senses. He abruptly opened his eyes and turned to look beside him.
Jiang Yuebai was already gone.
“Up so early?” Yan Weiqiu muttered, sitting on the bed in a daze.
“Xiaoqiu,” Fang Xiu’s voice came from the doorway.
“Yes,” Yan Weiqiu responded.
Fang Xiu: “Time to get up. Breakfast is ready. Hurry up and get dressed and come out to eat.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.” Yan Weiqiu rubbed his tired eyes and went to the bathroom to wash up. He glanced at the laundry basket, which contained the pants Jiang Yuebai had worn last night.
He gradually recalled waking up in the middle of the night, vaguely hearing Jiang Yuebai coaxing him.
“Go to sleep, it’s still early.”
His voice echoed in his ears. Yan Weiqiu shook his head and splashed cold water on his face to cool down the heat in his cheeks.
After leaving the room, Yan Weiqiu subconsciously looked around but still didn’t see Jiang Yuebai. “Mom, has Xiaobai gone back?”
“Xiaobai said he’d go home to change his clothes and come back to pick you up later.” Fang Xiu brought a bowl of noodles from the kitchen and urged him to eat breakfast quickly. “Xiaobai got up early and ate noodles before going back.”
Yan Weiqiu slurped a mouthful of noodles and almost choked.
So Jiang Yuebai lied about not having his keys. He knew it; not a word of truth from an Alpha’s mouth.
Yan Weiqiu looked at Fang Xiu, who was busy in the kitchen, and after a moment of consideration, he said, “Mom, next time, could you not let Xiaobai stay at our house?”
“What?”
“Did you two have a fight?”
“Weren’t you two getting along fine yesterday?”
Fang Xiu stood at the kitchen door, looking at him in surprise.
Yesterday she saw the two children playing around, and Xiaobai seemed fine when he left this morning.
Yan Weiqiu explained, “We didn’t fight. It’s just that we’re both grown up now, and I’m a Beta, he’s an Alpha. Sleeping together isn’t really appropriate. Maybe we should clean up the guest room, and next time Xiaobai comes to stay, he can sleep in there.”
“You’re still young.” Fang Xiu didn’t mind their gender differences and was quite happy to see them close. “If Xiaobai heard you say that, he’d make a fuss.”
Not young at all.
Not young anywhere.
And it would be best if Jiang Yuebai did hear it.
Fang Xiu couldn’t help but be amused by his worried expression. “No need to clean up the guest room. Soon you’ll be going off to university, and who knows if you’ll even be able to come back once a month. Even if you do come home, Xiaobai will definitely go back to his own house.”
University…
Yan Weiqiu froze at these words.
Right, they were going to university soon.
Yan Weiqiu ate his noodles absentmindedly until Jiang Yuebai’s voice came from downstairs.
“Xiaoqiu, are you up?”
“Come down, I’m here to pick you up.”
Yan Weiqiu sped up his eating, drank a mouthful of noodle soup, grabbed his schoolbag, and ran out.
“Mom, I’m leaving.”
Fang Xiu quickly called out, “Be careful on the road. Tell Xiaobai to come over for dinner tonight. I’ll make you something delicious.”
Yan Weiqiu: “Okay.”
Seeing Jiang Yuebai standing downstairs, Yan Weiqiu was annoyed. “Didn’t you say you didn’t have your keys?”
The smile on Jiang Yuebai’s face faltered, and he stammered, “It turns out I had my keys with me when I left yesterday morning. They were tucked away in the hidden compartment of my bag. I looked everywhere yesterday and couldn’t find them.”
“Then how did you find them this morning?” Yan Weiqiu said coldly.
Jiang Yuebai nodded.
Yan Weiqiu stared at him with a smirk. “Do you have your keys today?”
“Yes.” Jiang Yuebai replied honestly, then urged, “Let’s go, we’re going to be late for class.”
Just as Jiang Yuebai was about to turn into the bumpy side street, Yan Weiqiu pinched the soft flesh on his waist hard and snorted, “Take the main road.”
“Hiss—” Jiang Yuebai winced in pain and gave in. “Okay, okay.”
Yan Weiqiu was in Class 1, Jiang Yuebai in Class 3. They weren’t in the same class.
But to get back to Class 3, Jiang Yuebai had to pass by Class 1.
“Oh, the knight in shining armor is back to escort our class monitor.”
“Isn’t that right? Rain or shine, never fails.”
Yan Weiqiu watched as the two students in front of him teased him back and forth, then slowly interrupted them, “It seems you don’t need to copy my homework.”
“No, no, no, class monitor, I was wrong. I swear I won’t slip up again.”
“I was wrong too, class monitor. Let me copy your homework first!”
The two scrambled for Yan Weiqiu’s homework notebook. After a while, the student in front turned to Yan Weiqiu, his expression a little strange. “Class monitor, are these problems really that difficult?”
Yan Weiqiu: “They’re alright. What’s wrong?”
The student in front nodded. “Nothing, just a little surprised.”
Yan Weiqiu: “About what?”
The student spread his homework notebook in front of him. The handwriting was extremely messy, the answers a complete disaster. Yan Weiqiu was silent for a moment.
It was all Jiang Yuebai’s fault.
After two English classes, Yan Weiqiu’s head was full of vocabulary.
“Class monitor, someone’s looking for you!”
Yan Weiqiu looked up blankly towards the doorway.
He recognized the girl. He had seen her several times in the teachers’ office. She was the English class representative from Class 7.
Gu Siyin stood at the entrance of Class 1, nervously looking at Yan Weiqiu, who was sitting in the back row. Her appearance attracted the attention of most of the students.
Gossipy glances darted between her and Yan Weiqiu.
The two students in front nudged each other, their mouths slightly agape as they looked at the pink envelope in Gu Siyin’s hand.
“The class monitor’s charm is truly great. Even the class beauty from Class 7 has come to confess to him.”
“But that’s not right!”
“What’s not right? Is our class monitor not handsome?”
The student in front glanced at Yan Weiqiu and whispered to his deskmate, “It’s not that the class monitor isn’t handsome, it’s that… he’s not handsome, he’s beautiful. Beautiful, you understand?!”
“Understand, I understand.”
The student in front: “And what I meant by ‘not right’ is that they’re clearly the same type!”
“…”
“You’re so right.”
“I didn’t even think of that!”
Yan Weiqiu glared at them expressionlessly.
Can you two please not gossip about me right in front of me?
“It’s not like that, you’ve misunderstood.” Gu Siyin smiled awkwardly and quickly explained to Yan Weiqiu, “I’m not here to confess. I…”
Gu Siyin tightened her grip on the envelope, too shy to speak.
Yan Weiqiu’s pen made a heavy mark on his textbook.
He understood.
Gu Siyin carefully glanced at him and held out the envelope, saying nervously, “Yan Weiqiu, I heard you have a good relationship with Jiang Yuebai from Class 3. I wanted to ask you to pass this letter to him for me.”
“Holy—”
The student in front immediately covered his deskmate’s mouth.
Yan Weiqiu looked at the letter she handed him, a flicker of coldness in his downcast eyes. “Wouldn’t it be more sincere to give it to him personally?”
“He’s a bit intimidating. I’m afraid he’ll reject me.” Gu Siyin bit her lip and whispered, “Actually, he doesn’t know me. I’ve had a one-sided crush on him for a long time. I wanted to tell him how I feel before graduation.”
Yan Weiqiu’s pen landed on the accidental mark in his textbook again, deliberately making a heavy stroke. He said indifferently, “Exams are coming soon. I don’t want to affect his state of mind. Sorry, I can’t deliver this letter for you.”
Gu Siyin didn’t expect Yan Weiqiu to refuse her. She was stunned for a moment. “It’s okay. I’m sorry to have bothered you.”
She didn’t linger, leaving Class 1 with a forced smile.
Just then, the bell rang for class, and the students who had been watching the scene silently turned around, some feeling a bit of pity.
The two students in front clearly sensed a faint murderous aura in the air and exchanged glances.
The class monitor was angry.
Better to demolish a temple than ruin a marriage.
This Omega really had no sense.
Our class monitor and Jiang Yuebai from Class 3 are clearly a couple.
After Gu Siyin left, Yan Weiqiu’s mood remained sour.
Someone liking Jiang Yuebai was Jiang Yuebai’s business; it didn’t seem to have anything to do with him.
Delivering the letter would have been a simple task.
But he felt a deep resistance, a subconscious rejection and disgust.
The matter lingered in his mind, refusing to dissipate.
Gu Siyin was an Omega, quite famous in school. He occasionally heard other students mention her.
She was beautiful, gentle, had a good personality, and was admired by many Alphas in the school.
So, what about Jiang Yuebai?
What kind of Omega did he like?
Was it someone like Gu Siyin?
If Gu Siyin had given him the letter personally today, would he have accepted it?
A feeling of suffocation suddenly overwhelmed him, his face paling slightly, his chest tightening, making it difficult to breathe.
“The answer to this question is A…”
Yan Weiqiu couldn’t help but raise his hand to interrupt the teacher. “Teacher, I’m not feeling well. I’d like to go to the infirmary.”
The teacher nodded. “Go ahead.”
Yan Weiqiu’s grades were always excellent, so missing half a class wouldn’t affect him.
Therefore, the teacher didn’t hesitate and continued the lesson.
However, Yan Weiqiu didn’t go to the infirmary. Instead, he went to the lobby downstairs and sat quietly for a long time.
The weather was hot, and the breeze carried a wave of heat.
Yan Weiqiu sat huddled in a corner, his inner turmoil refusing to subside.
Was he too possessive of Jiang Yuebai?
Was that why he felt so angry and uneasy after knowing someone else had feelings for him?
But there were quite a few Omegas in school who liked Jiang Yuebai.
He occasionally found letters and gifts in Jiang Yuebai’s bag.
But he had never lost control of his emotions like this before.
To the point of even taking it out on Jiang Yuebai.
