After dinner, Yan Weiqiu and Jiang Yuebai went to the rooftop to enjoy the breeze.
This was their secret base. Neighbors rarely came up here. There were two rocking chairs, and they would occasionally come up to chat and relax.
“Xiaobai,” Yan Weiqiu lay in the rocking chair, swinging his legs leisurely, seemingly casual, but in reality, he was all ears. He asked softly, “Do you have any universities you want to apply to?”
“Haven’t we already decided?” Jiang Yuebai looked at him in surprise, a little taken aback by the question.
Yan Weiqiu was slightly stunned. “Decided? When? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention it.”
“A University.” Jiang Yuebai chuckled and said casually, “Didn’t you already decide to go to A University?”
Yan Weiqiu frowned slightly. “But that’s the school I want to go to. I’m asking you, which school do you want to go to?”
Jiang Yuebai’s attitude was firm, without a trace of hesitation. “A University.”
Yan Weiqiu: “Huh?”
“Xiaoqiu,” Jiang Yuebai said jokingly, “Don’t tell me you’re planning to ditch me in university? Do you want me to apply to another school and separate from you?”
Yan Weiqiu looked away, muttering, “I didn’t think that.”
“We should always be together, not separated.” Jiang Yuebai’s voice was very soft, like the evening breeze, elusive.
Yan Weiqiu looked up at the starry night sky and smiled faintly. “We’ve been together for so many years. Wouldn’t it be tiring to choose the same university?”
Jiang Yuebai’s internal alarm bells went off. He nervously gripped the armrests of the rocking chair and asked casually, “What about you? We grew up together, played together, studied together, ate together. We see each other every day, day and night. Do you feel tired of it?”
Jiang Yuebai threw the question back at him. Yan Weiqiu didn’t answer.
During these few seconds of silence, it felt like an eternity to Jiang Yuebai.
“Didn’t I ask you first?” Yan Weiqiu turned to look at his face.
“Not tired.” Jiang Yuebai didn’t hesitate, answering directly. “A lifetime is very short. I’m worried it won’t be enough.”
Yan Weiqiu’s pupils dilated slightly, and he quickly averted his gaze from Jiang Yuebai.
These words were like a boulder thrown into the calm sea of his heart, creating huge waves and ripples.
For a moment, he couldn’t think of anything to say in response to Jiang Yuebai’s words. He just lowered his head silently.
“What about you? Do you feel tired of it?” Jiang Yuebai repeated his earlier question.
“No, never, not even once.” Yan Weiqiu shook his head.
How could he be tired of it? He even greedily wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jiang Yuebai.
Time had passed, and he had long been accustomed to Jiang Yuebai’s company.
A smile bloomed on Jiang Yuebai’s tightly pursed lips. “We agreed to go to the same university.”
Not only that, they also wanted to spend their entire lives together.
“It would be even better if we could live in the same dorm in university.” As he said this, Jiang Yuebai laughed, starting to fantasize about their beautiful university life.
Yan Weiqiu smiled, tapped his head, and snorted, “What are you thinking? Alphas can only share dorms with other Alphas. Only Betas and Omegas are assigned together.”
Jiang Yuebai sighed regretfully.
The two looked at the starry sky for a long time without speaking. The evening breeze brought a hint of coolness, so comfortable that Yan Weiqiu started to doze off.
Just as he was about to fall asleep, Jiang Yuebai suddenly said, “Actually, I’ve always known that you’ve been distancing yourself from me because I presented as an Alpha.”
“You’ve become much colder towards me since we presented.” His tone was laced with grievance.
Yan Weiqiu woke up with a start, stammering after a while, “That’s just your imagination.”
“It’s not my imagination. I know whether you’re good to me or not.” Jiang Yuebai ticked off his fingers, listing his grievances. “Before I presented as an Alpha, we often slept together, even cuddling. Unlike now, I just stay at your house for a while, and after dinner, you start chasing me away, not even giving me a chance to stay over.”
Yan Weiqiu choked, trying to gloss over it. “That’s because we’re in our senior year now. Don’t you know how much schoolwork we have? I just think we should finish our homework after dinner and go to bed early to be well-rested for class tomorrow.”
Jiang Yuebai continued, “And before, when I hugged you, you didn’t resist. Now, if I get a little closer, you push me away, making me wonder if I have some kind of virus that makes you want to stay ten meters away from me.”
“Ugh—” Yan Weiqiu couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “How can you compare childhood to now? When we were little, we didn’t care about gender differences, but now we’re grown up.”
They couldn’t still be hugging and cuddling now that they were older; that would be inappropriate.
Jiang Yuebai said aggrievedly, “I don’t care about gender differences now. Aren’t we still young? We’re still minors.”
Yan Weiqiu: “…”
He didn’t want to talk to someone so thick-skinned.
Jiang Yuebai suddenly grabbed his hand, his warm palm firmly interlocking their fingers. Yan Weiqiu struggled but couldn’t shake him off.
“See, now I can’t even hold your hand.” Jiang Yuebai complained.
Yan Weiqiu could only give up struggling and let him hold his hand.
Under the cover of the vast night sky, Jiang Yuebai couldn’t see his blushing face.
Remembering today’s physiology class, Yan Weiqiu hesitated for a long time before asking, “Did you also have your last physiology class?”
Jiang Yuebai nodded. “We had it a few days ago.”
Yan Weiqiu looked at the bright moon hanging in the sky, feeling a sense of melancholy. “What are your thoughts?”
“What thoughts?” Jiang Yuebai played with his fingers absentmindedly, occasionally squeezing his soft palm, sighing inwardly. How could someone be so soft? Soft hands, soft face, his whole being was soft.
“Is your rut coming soon?” Yan Weiqiu slapped his hand and pulled his hand back.
Jiang Yuebai said regretfully, “It’s still some time away.”
The words reached his lips, but he swallowed them back down. After hesitating for a long time, Yan Weiqiu said in a self-deprecating tone, “The teacher said that if an Alpha can meet their destined Omega, it’s the best option. The Omega’s pheromones can alleviate your rut.”
Jiang Yuebai gave a nonchalant “mm-hmm” and then said lazily, “You know I don’t like Omegas, so there’s no such thing as a destined mate for me.”
Yan Weiqiu sighed helplessly. “Then what about your rut?”
“I’ll just go to the hospital and have my glands removed.” Jiang Yuebai said indifferently.
His tone was casual, as if he didn’t care about it at all, even treating gland removal as a trivial matter.
Yan Weiqiu knocked on his head, his tone serious and earnest, with a hint of anger. “The teacher said that gland removal is permanent and irreversible. If you have your glands removed, you’ll be crippled for life. Did you even listen to what the teacher said?!”
Jiang Yuebai took the opportunity to grab his hand again, tightening his grip. He smiled faintly. “The teacher was scaring you. It’s not that exaggerated. And I’ve read a lot of medical research on Alpha gland removal over the years, so I know a bit about it.”
Yan Weiqiu looked up at him sharply.
Why was Jiang Yuebai reading about this? Did he want to have his glands removed?
When did he start thinking about it?
How long had he been preparing for it?

“No.” Yan Weiqiu interrupted him, gripping his hand tightly, and said urgently, “You can’t have this surgery.”
Jiang Yuebai smiled indifferently. “The risks are very small.”

Jiang Yuebai paused. “Mm, I understand.”

He just wanted to have his glands removed, not become a eunuch.
