Chapter 26 p1: Daily Life After Marriage
“…”
Xu Zhizhou didn’t make a sound. The room fell silent, with only the sound of their two breaths and the feel of their hot breath. His heart suddenly started to beat very fast. The lips that had been kissed were moist, carrying the warmth and touch of another person.
The summer cicadas chirped a few times outside. The hustle and bustle of the day had faded, and the silence of the night slowly flowed in.
The lips that were covered, the thin calluses on the fingertips brought a slight flame. The heat of the palm started a prairie fire. The shallow breath landed on the back of Song Changxu’s hand.
His hand covering Xu Zhizhou’s tightened. He subconsciously traced the shape of his lips with his fingers, his gaze deep and dark.
The light of the wedding candle fell into Xu Zhizhou’s eyes. Looking at his appearance, he was captivating.
A face as beautiful as a pretty boy’s.
He loosened his arm in a daze.
Xu Zhizhou: “What are you doing? I didn’t give you permission to kiss me. And why are you so…”
So noisy.
Song Changxu didn’t say anything, his lips pursed, looking handsome. He pressed down on Xu Zhizhou, his head lowered to his neck, his long hair falling down.
“Why do you talk so much?”
Song Changxu looked into his eyes and thought, I should just shut him up.
His lips pressed down again, a restless, wet kiss. Xu Zhizhou’s voice was swallowed between their lips and teeth.
Heat was transferred between the two of them. The sash of Song Changxu’s inner garment was rubbed off, revealing his eight-pack abs. He pinched the back of Xu Zhizhou’s neck and pulled back.
Then he pressed Xu Zhizhou to himself again, prying open his lips and teeth. The moist air, the clumsy kisses bumped against their teeth. Song Changxu had taught himself how to eat and bite.
Xu Zhizhou was as soft as a puddle of mud, his mind blank, his hands weakly pushing against Song Changxu’s chest.
Their long hair was tangled together. Song Changxu’s head was even dizzier. The wedding candle was still burning. The two of them separated, panting.
The wedding clothes were hanging in the wardrobe. Both of them were only wearing their inner garments. Xu Zhizhou’s toes curled, and his whole body was hot.
The wedding candle had not been blown out. Through the orange candlelight, Song Changxu saw Xu Zhizhou’s eyes, his neck, and the collarbone hidden under his inner garment, as fair as porcelain.
Song Changxu’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he restrained himself. He had already lost control today. He couldn’t go too far.
He was just trying to shut him up, not for anything else.
Xu Zhizhou came back to his senses and glared at Song Changxu. “Why aren’t you following the book?”
Song Changxu’s voice was hoarse. “What book?”
“You know, the book that the elders in your family give you when you get married. It’s written in that book. I can’t read, so I only looked at the pictures.”
Song Changxu’s mind was restless again. He didn’t want to discuss this in the same bed.
This time, he was very measured. Even when he pulled the quilt, he only pulled a corner, keeping his body far away.
“It’s getting late. Let’s go to sleep.”
Xu Zhizhou reached out and poked Song Changxu. “The book doesn’t say that. It’s not over yet.”
“Aren’t you sleepy? If we do it, you won’t be able to sleep tonight,” Song Changxu said, his tone pausing, his mind wandering.
He turned to his side uncomfortably.
Xu Zhizhou yawned. “Alright, then we’ll do it tomorrow night. I’m really sleepy. I didn’t sleep well last night, and I got up so early today.”
There was a rustling sound from the side. Xu Zhizhou saw that Song Changxu was so far away. He grabbed his arm, which was hidden under the quilt, and held it in his arms with dissatisfaction.
“Why are you so far away from me?”
Song Changxu’s arm was strong. Xu Zhizhou felt a sense of security holding it. Although his kisses were a bit forceful, and he liked to touch his face and the back of his neck, it was still acceptable.
Song Changxu didn’t know what he was thinking. He lay on his side, his words hesitant.
“Aren’t you afraid of marrying me? I might not be able to give you the life you want.”
Xu Zhizhou moved closer to Song Changxu. He let go of his hand and nestled in his arms. It was indeed very warm and strong.
He said, “What are you mumbling about? It’s the parents’ order and the matchmaker’s words. What more do you want? If everyone in the world were in love, there wouldn’t be so many unhappy couples. But, but I still hope to live a good life. I’m still a little satisfied with you.”
Song Changxu’s heart was touched.
Xu Zhizhou muttered, “Besides, we’re already married and have been intimate. A divorce would be bad for our reputations. It’s better to just wait for the person to die and be a widower. If I want to find a new partner, I’ll have to start looking in advance.”
Song Changxu’s face was expressionless. “…”
He shouldn’t have asked.
Xu Zhizhou yawned. He touched his lips and felt that they seemed to have been kissed swollen.
He lowered his head shyly and said, “Husband, is it alright if I call you that? We’re already married. Look at my lips. Are they swollen? I can’t see.”
…He’s calling me ‘husband’ again. He’s so good at acting cute. Does he think I’ll look just because he asked me to?
He was just doing this to get to sleep earlier. Otherwise, there would be another scene.
Song Changxu turned over, propped himself up, and looked at his lips. They were rosy and moist, the slightly parted mouth like a blooming flower emitting a tempting fragrance.
He said stiffly, “They’re not swollen.”
Just a touch of the lips, a little bite. How could they be swollen? It wasn’t like that place.
Song Changxu, who had a good memory, was speechless at this moment.
Hearing his words, Xu Zhizhou was relieved. “That’s good. Otherwise, how could I face people tomorrow?”
Xu Zhizhou fell asleep leaning against Song Changxu. He didn’t seem to be worried at all that the person next to him would do anything to him.
Soon, the sound of steady breathing came from his side. Song Changxu turned over and stared at Xu Zhizhou.
The fine hairs on Xu Zhizhou’s face were a bit cute. His fingers were curled up in the quilt. Song Changxu looked for a long time and then tucked him in.
He seems to be very at ease at home, Song Changxu thought.
He was also tired from the long day. Song Changxu had thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep, but he ended up sleeping very soundly.
.
At dawn, Liang Su and Song Mingyan got up, heated up the leftovers from yesterday, and the remaining tables and chairs that they hadn’t had time to return last night. Liang Su kept in mind which bowls, chopsticks, and tables belonged to which family. While Song Mingyan was making breakfast at home, she and Song Ye went to return the tables and chairs.
Returning the tables and chairs was strenuous. Song Ye was strong. After the couple had returned them, they saw that the sky was bright, and they were both happy.
After returning the tables, chairs, bowls, and chopsticks, they had five taels of silver left from the gift money, after deducting the cost of the feast, which was three taels and five qian.
Today was the new husband’s first day at home. Liang Su saw that the house was clean and tidy, and took a broom to sweep the dust from the courtyard.
For breakfast, they had corn cakes, a plate of stir-fried green peppers with meat, a plate of braised chicken with potatoes, and a plate of refreshing cucumber.
They couldn’t eat anything too greasy in the morning, as they might not have an appetite. In the hot weather, the meat dishes had to be finished early, or they would spoil, which would be even more regrettable.
Song Mingyan was cooking and also boiled a pot of hot water for tea.
When the food was almost ready, Xu Cheng went to knock on the door. “Uncle, it’s time to get up.”
The Song family ate breakfast early. Song Changxu’s voice came from inside the door.
Song Changxu ran a hand through his hair. He felt a soreness in one of his shoulders. He opened his eyes and saw Xu Zhizhou sleeping soundly, holding his arm. He mumbled a few words in his sleep.
He must have been woken up by the call as well.
“You get up first, then I’ll get up. Can you help me find that green set of clothes in the chest?”
Song Changxu agreed good-naturedly. He bent down to look for the clothes in the chest, but accidentally came across Xu Zhizhou’s undergarments.
His fingers burned, and he immediately let go, hastily throwing the clothes Xu Zhizhou wanted onto the bed. “You can change. I’ll change on the other side.”
Xu Zhizhou rubbed his eyes. “What are you afraid of? You can change here. I won’t say anything.”
He had only seen Song Changxu’s waist and abdomen last night. They looked very strong. If he changed his clothes this time, he could see more clearly.
Song Changxu didn’t listen to this nonsense. He turned around and went to the other side to change his clothes. Xu Zhizhou put on a wooden hairpin and went out with Song Changxu.
When they washed up, they both splashed their faces with cold water, which woke them up a lot.
Xu Zhizhou was still a bit nervous. He asked quietly, “What are your parents like? You have to help me and protect me later.”
Song Changxu put away his cloth and mumbled an agreement. “They’re both kind people. You don’t have to worry.”
The two of them went to the main hall together. The food was already ready. Song Changxu sat on one side, and Xu Zhizhou sat next to him.
Song Changxu calmly took a corn cake from the plate and handed it to Xu Zhizhou, then called out to his parents.
Xu Zhizhou followed Song Changxu and called out, “Father, Mother.”
Song Ye and Liang Su smiled. Liang Su said, “Zhizhou, just treat this as your own home.”
Xu Zhizhou took a bite of the corn cake. “Mother is so kind. I know. This corn cake is also very delicious.”
Hearing this, Liang Su and Song Mingyan both smiled. Xu Zhizhou was a bit hungry in the morning. He scooped a bowl of braised chicken with potato soup, ate three corn cakes, and then took the initiative to help clean up the bowls and chopsticks.
Song Changxu followed him and went to the kitchen to help.
Just as Song Mingyan was about to speak, Liang Su smiled. “Let the young couple be. They’re newlyweds. They like to stick together.”
But that was not the case. Song Changxu was afraid that Xu Zhizhou would feel uncomfortable at home, so he had come in to help. Xu Zhizhou was boiling water to wash the dishes. When he saw Song Changxu come in, he quickly glanced outside and saw no one.
Xu Zhizhou really wanted to ask Song Changxu to help him wash, but he was afraid that the elders in the family would find out. If they found out that he was ordering Song Changxu around on the first day of their marriage, they would have a bad impression of him.
He obediently washed the dishes, and Song Changxu helped him with a few.
Xu Zhizhou’s brow relaxed. “I guess you know how to be considerate.”
Song Changxu cleared his throat. “Washing dishes is nothing. It’s a small matter.”
You don’t have to praise me like that.
After washing the dishes, the two of them went out to serve tea to Song Ye and Liang Su. They both gave Xu Zhizhou a large red envelope.
Xu Zhizhou said happily, “Thank you, Father and Mother.”
Seeing his cheerful expression, Song Changxu couldn’t help but smile as well.
“We don’t have many rules in our family. Now that you’ve married in, you’re a child of our Song family. As long as the two of you live a good life, that’s better than anything.”
After speaking, Song Changxu and Xu Zhizhou both agreed.
