Qin Guanyue’s face flushed red with rage. He pointed at Fu Yanli, too furious to speak for a long moment.
He felt as though all the face he’d accumulated over more than forty years had been utterly shattered today.
“Fu Yanli, just you wait for the Qin Group’s retaliation!”
With those vicious words, Qin Guanyue turned and stormed off. But he hadn’t gone far when Shen Boheng called out to him.
“President Qin, your nephew forgot something.”
Qin Guanyue nearly spat blood from anger.
He spun back around, grabbed Qin Huan by the shoulder—ignoring his struggles and protests—and dragged him away.
Jiang Shunnian watched Qin Guanyue’s near-wolfish retreat, a indescribable sense of relief washing over him.
So this Qin Guanyue isn’t as invincible as I thought. He can be beaten.
But amid the relaxation came inevitable worry. They’d torn faces completely today—would Fu Yanli face the Qin Family’s revenge?
As if sensing Jiang Shunnian’s thoughts, Fu Yanli spoke up first to reassure him. “Shunnian, no need to worry. For starters, Qin Guanyue isn’t the one in power at the Qin Family; he can’t declare war outright. Even if a real contest begins, the Fu Family can hold our own.”
Wars between conglomerates—especially behemoths like the Fu Corporation and Qin Group—couldn’t be decided in a short time. That gave Fu Yanli plenty of room to prepare.
Moreover, he’d investigated ahead of time. The Qin Group had grown rapidly, but its foundations were still shaky. Give it a few years, and it might be trouble—but right now, it wasn’t.
He’d orchestrated today’s events precisely to put Jiang Shunnian’s mind at ease.
Jiang Shunnian did relax a bit, but not entirely. He remembered that in this world, Qin Huan was the protagonist. Would the world even allow him to fail?
He’d never been good at analyzing these things and couldn’t figure it out. Should he tell Fu Yanli?
Would Fu Yanli even believe me?
Fu Yanli had been closely observing Jiang Shunnian’s expressions. Seeing that his words hadn’t fully eased the tension—in fact, deeper worry lingered—stirred his curiosity again.
Jiang Shunnian is definitely hiding something.
But this wasn’t the time or place, in the middle of the banquet. So Fu Yanli reached out, ruffling Jiang Shunnian’s hair in a soothing gesture. “Don’t let it ruin your mood. Come on, I’ll introduce you to a few friendly business partners.”
“Okay.”
Jiang Shunnian naturally offered his hand. They’d been holding hands the whole time—it had become habit.
A flicker of amusement crossed Fu Yanli’s eyes. He took it firmly and led Jiang Shunnian off to mingle.
Most of these people had investments in the entertainment industry. Upon learning Jiang Shunnian was an actor who also did voice work, one immediately handed over a business card. “I’ve invested in an anime lately, and we’ve been stuck on casting a voice actor for one role. If you’re interested, give it a try.”
Jiang Shunnian knew this was face given to Fu Yanli. He glanced at him, and Fu Yanli gave a subtle nod of approval.
Jiang Shunnian accepted gracefully with a smile. “Thank you, President Chen.”
After meeting a few groups, the last one turned out to be from the Pei Family.
The Pei Family was an old-money clan with mining roots, now pivoted to finance and new energy. They overlapped with the Fu Corporation on some business and had just sealed a deal recently—hence the invite to this banquet.
The representative was Pei Qingrong, the next heir apparent.
It showed how highly the Pei Family regarded the Fu Family.
As Jiang Shunnian approached, he immediately spotted Yu Yanchen standing nervously beside Pei Qingyi.
Yu Yanchen had come to the banquet with Pei Qingyi. He wore a stylish blue-and-white spliced shirt paired with black trousers. His recent gym gains had his chest muscles bulging, giving the shirt a tight, fitted look—like a total tough guy vibe.
Yu Yanchen didn’t want to embarrass his good bro, but damn, he was nervous.
And things had gotten scary earlier. A few rich aunties had come over to greet him and slipped him perfumed business cards, hinting at “future collaborations.”
The naive Yu Yanchen thought he might actually land a gig. He reached for one, only for Pei Qingyi to whisper coldly in his ear, “That’s code for wanting to keep you. They love buff young guys like you.”
It terrified Yu Yanchen. He wanted to hide behind Pei Qingyi, his tall frame trembling.
When he spotted Jiang Shunnian approaching, his eyes lit up like beacons.
My savior!
But the glee faded fast as a chill ran down his spine. He looked closer—the stare was coming from Fu Yanli?
Fu Yanli was a few centimeters taller, with an overwhelming presence. After a brief exchange with Pei Qingrong, he extended a hand to Yu Yanchen. “Hello, I’m Fu Yanli. Shunnian mentioned you’re his friend and have helped him a lot. I’ve been wanting to meet you.”
Yu Yanchen grinned, flashing a mouthful of white teeth as he shook hands. “Hi, President Fu! Shunnian and I are bros—we look out for each other, it’s only right!”
Fu Yanli confirmed Yu Yanchen posed no threat, his smile turning more genuine. “The Fu Corporation has entertainment subsidiaries too. We should collaborate sometime. Any friend of Shunnian’s is a friend of mine.”
“I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare.” Yu Yanchen said that, but he was thrilled inside.
Pei Qingyi thought Yu Yanchen’s emotional IQ needed work—hadn’t he noticed Fu Yanli sizing him up like a rival? Still, that pure, straightforward energy was rare and kinda endearing.
Jiang Shunnian asked Fu Yanli, “Anyone else I need to meet? If not, I’d like to take President Pei and Yanchen to see Nono.”
“Go ahead.”
Once Yu Yanchen’s excitement settled, questions bubbled up. He whispered to Jiang Shunnian, “Bro, why’d you say Nono is your kid with President Fu?”
He thought it’d be some hot babe.
Jiang Shunnian, who’d prepared an answer last night, replied, “Just pretend we used some high-tech method to have Nono.”
Pei Qingyi looked thoughtful. Yu Yanchen bought it hook, line, and sinker, filled with admiration. “Whoa, that’s awesome! So if I want kids later, can I do single-body reproduction too?”
Jiang Shunnian: “…” Bro, that’s getting impolite.
“You should find a girl you like, date, and get married,” Pei Qingyi cut in.
Yu Yanchen scratched his head, fooled again. “Yeah, true.”
Jiang Shunnian exhaled in relief, exchanging a glance with Pei Qingyi.
Back in Nono’s lounge, Jiang Shunnian finally unwound completely.
In this world, only Nono could heal him.
Nono was eating dinner. Spotting Pei Qingyi and Yu Yanchen, he greeted them warmly. “Uncle Pei, Uncle Yu, good evening. Have you eaten? Want to join me?”
His table was laden with exquisite, delicious dishes—specially prepared for him by Shen Boheng’s staff.
Pei Qingyi wasn’t hungry but took a pastry. Nono considerately pushed the whole plate over.
Pei Qingyi adored this kid—thoughtful, attentive, great at caring for others. The gift he’d brought was a top-quality Peace Jade Plaque, hoping it would keep the little one safe and healthy.
Yu Yanchen, starving by now, was already familiar with Nono. He plopped down and dug in.
Worried Uncle Yu wouldn’t have enough, Nono had the server bring more.
He fetched food for Jiang Shunnian too, then resumed his own leisurely meal.
“Your kid is too well-behaved,” Pei Qingyi praised.
Jiang Shunnian shook his head. “I’ve only realized lately—Nono takes care of me a lot. Sometimes I wish he’d be more mischievous and willful.”
“You feel like you owe him. But to Nono, it’s willing—he loves caring for you. And no rule says kids have to be naughty.”
Pei Qingyi’s words enlightened Jiang Shunnian. He smiled gratefully. “I hadn’t thought of it that way. Thanks, President Pei.”
“No need. You’ll figure it out eventually.”
Jiang Shunnian chatted with Pei Qingyi about future work plans.
With the Fu Family’s backing, his career path was wide open. But Jiang Shunnian didn’t slack off—he knew acting skill was his foundation.
He’d be even pickier with roles going forward, to protect his reputation.
Pei Qingyi admired Jiang Shunnian’s poise, unfazed by honor or disgrace. No wonder Fu Yanli was so smitten.
Qin Guanyue stormed out of the banquet in a fury, dragging Qin Huan straight to Qin Guanting’s place. But when he knocked and the door opened, he found a pretty girl inside—not Qin Huan’s mother, and way too young, barely out of her teens.
Gotta say, brothers gonna brother—even their tastes aligned.
One played with men, the other with women.
Qin Guanting was a decade younger than Qin Guanyue, fitter and more robust. He was shirtless, his neck and chest marked with ambiguous love bites, not giving a damn if Qin Huan saw.
Qin Huan ignored it entirely, heading straight for the sofa. He told the flustered, embarrassed girl, “I’m hungry.”
She froze, then stammered, “I-I can’t cook.”
Qin Huan said coldly, “Useless.”
Her eyes reddened instantly.
Qin Guanting frowned and snapped, “Watch your tone, Qin Huan.”
Qin Huan shut up.
Qin Guanting ignored him, asking Qin Guanyue, “Why show up so late?”
“It’s that damn Fu. Stole my man and humiliated me! Guanting, you gotta help me get revenge.”
Qin Guanting lit a cigarette. “Fu Yanli?”
“Yeah, and he declared war on us outright.” Qin Guanyue snarled, “Once we bankrupt the Fu Corporation, I’ll string Jiang Shunnian up and play with him—make Fu Yanli kneel and watch.”
“The Fu Corporation, huh.” Qin Guanting pondered. “They’ve got some core tech I’m interested in. Fine, I’m in.”
Qin Guanyue grinned wide. “Knew I could count on you. Won’t interrupt—I’ll take the kid and go. Carry on.”
After the banquet ended, Nono grew drowsy, nestling sleepily in Jiang Shunnian’s arms.
The manor was too far; he might conk out midway. So Fu Yanli suggested they go to his place instead.
The downstairs unit was already prepped with daily essentials—ready to move in.
Jiang Shunnian considered it and agreed.
Fu Yanli had the driver take his parents home, then personally drove Jiang Shunnian.
In the car, Nono dozed off as expected. Fu Yanli kept the speed to the minimum, driving ultra-smoothly.
Upon arrival, Fu Yanli shrugged off his jacket to drape over Nono, whispering to Jiang Shunnian, “Let me carry him.”
Jiang Shunnian’s arms ached from the trip. He gently transferred Nono to Fu Yanli.
Fu Yanli’s hold on the child was surprisingly perfect.
Jiang Shunnian couldn’t help murmuring, “How’d you get so good at this suddenly?”
Fu Yanli chuckled softly. “You know my OCD. Last time I held Nono, I probably made him uncomfortable. So I watched tutorials, asked Mom for tips.”
Jiang Shunnian smiled too. Did he even do air practice?
Fu Yanli lived on the 26th floor, but they went to the 25th first. The door had Jiang Shunnian’s facial recognition already programmed—he could open it directly.
Fu Yanli’s wasn’t.
The place was unfamiliar to Jiang Shunnian; he didn’t know his way and didn’t dare turn on lights, lest they bother Nono.
Fu Yanli handed Nono back, then guided Jiang Shunnian by the arm through the dim light to the bedroom.
Nono was still in his little suit, which needed changing. They tag-teamed it: Fu Yanli gently lifted arms while Jiang Shunnian stripped it off swiftly.
Soon, Nono was down to just little shorts, bare everywhere else.
Jiang Shunnian whispered to Fu Yanli, “Pinch his tummy—it’s fun.”
Fu Yanli did, and yeah, the texture was great.
Though he’s felt better spots.
They dressed Nono in pajamas, got him comfy, then slipped out to the living room.
The opulent Euro-style decor gleamed under the crystal chandelier. Jiang Shunnian’s fair skin and delicate features shone dazzlingly in the light.
Fu Yanli gazed quietly for a moment before saying, “Shunnian, after tonight’s banquet, to outsiders, we’re lovers. You can act as my partner—do whatever you want. I’ll back you up on everything. But one thing: if you meet someone you like and want out, tell me ahead of time.”
So I can deal with them early, Fu Yanli added inwardly.
Jiang Shunnian shook his head vigorously. “I won’t like anyone else—Nono’s enough for me. You though—if you find someone, tell me early.”
The words left his mouth before he realized the slip.
Sure enough, Fu Yanli replied, “Won’t happen. My heart moves only for you.”
