Lian Li let out a loud cry and tried to strike back, but he was pinned down by his back and couldn’t get up at all.
He could only flail his arms and legs wildly, looking like a little turtle whose shell was being held down.
He could only swing sideways to hit Yun Huizhou. Since neither of them was using internal energy, Lian Li was quite ruthless, and his strikes were not light.
Yun Huizhou let out a “hiss~” of pain, and then Lian Li received another slap.
“When we get back, I’m definitely going to tell Master and Junior Uncle that you hit me!” Lian Li glared at Yun Huizhou.
“Oh.” Yun Huizhou wasn’t afraid at all. He even asked, “And how do you plan to tell them I hit you?”
Lian Li felt that Yun Huizhou was no longer hitting him; Yun Huizhou’s hand was resting loosely on him… well, actually, it was resting just below his lower back, but it hadn’t quite reached his buttocks.
“Take your pig’s trotters off me!” Lian Li shouted. “Are you trying to be a hooligan?”
Yun Huizhou curled his lip and said, “Ah, right, right, right. Since you’ve said it, I’d feel bad if I didn’t act like one.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his hand moved again, and then he gave Lian Li’s butt a very hard pinch.
“Ow, ow, ow! It’s definitely going to bruise!” Lian Li struggled violently. This time, Yun Huizhou didn’t hold him down and let him break free easily.
Lian Li stood up, wanting to kick him, but he was afraid of being pinned down again.
He could only glare, using his eyes to express his fury.
Yun Huizhou also stood up and left the room with a smile. Before closing the door, he added, “Get some rest early. The martial arts marriage competition begins tomorrow.”
After Yun Huizhou left, Lian Li returned to his bed, stripped off all his clothes and trousers, and turned his head to look at the spot where Yun Huizhou had pinched him.
Sure enough, it was red. It still throbbed with a faint pain; it would likely turn purple by tomorrow.
He pressed it lightly and then winced. Yun Huizhou had really been ruthless.
After draping his clothes over himself and casually pulling on his trousers, he called for the Su Mansion servants to bring him hot water.
After bathing, he took out some ointment and applied it to the spot Yun Huizhou had pinched, as well as the places where he had been hit during the fight earlier that day.
He didn’t have any open wounds, but there were several bruised spots. If he didn’t treat them, he would likely be covered in bruises tomorrow.
Just as he finished tending to himself, he heard a commotion coming from the Su Mansion, specifically from Su Fu’s courtyard.
Lian Li circulated his internal energy to listen carefully and heard someone mentioning going to fetch a doctor.
He quickly straightened his clothes and stepped out of his room, just in time to see Yun Huizhou already walking toward the courtyard gate.
He called out, “Yun Huizhou, are you going to Miss Su’s place? Wait for me, I’m coming too.”
Yun Huizhou glanced back at him and stopped. His face was expressionless, making it impossible to read his emotions.
Lian Li, however, was only concerned about what had happened in Su Fu’s courtyard. He hoped nothing else had happened to that kind-hearted girl.
Lian Li had lived to be twenty in his past life and had survived in this world for a year. Counting by his soul, he was already twenty-one.
Su Fu was only seventeen. To him, she really was like a little sister.
He pulled Yun Huizhou along toward Su Fu’s courtyard. At the entrance, Yun Huizhou stopped and pulled him back, preventing him from entering.
Lian Li asked, “Why did we stop?”
Yun Huizhou replied, “This is the courtyard of an unmarried young lady, after all. We have to have someone announce us before we go in.”
Lian Li thought about it and realized he was right. This was ancient times, and Su Fu wasn’t a member of the Jianghu; she would still be sensitive about such taboos.
So, the two of them stood at the courtyard gate and beckoned a young maid of about twelve or thirteen. “What happened to your young mistress? Why did we hear someone say they were fetching a doctor?”
The little maid’s face was also full of anxiety, and her eyes were red as if she had just been crying.
“Someone was talking about what happened with Su Shan in the front courtyard. The young mistress happened to hear them repeating Su Shan’s nonsense. In a moment of despair, she tried to hang herself with her sash.”
Lian Li frowned, wanting to say that the Su family servants were far too loose-lipped to be gossiping like that.
But on second thought, this was the Su family’s business. How the Su family handled it wasn’t for an outsider like him to comment on. He didn’t pursue the topic and instead asked the maid.
“Go inside and announce us. Ask if we can come in to see her.”
The little maid nodded repeatedly and ran back into the courtyard.
A moment later, she came back out and said, “The Eldest Young Master says the two guests may enter.”
The two followed the maid into the courtyard and arrived at Su Fu’s bedroom door.
The door was wide open, facing a small hall with a dining table and chairs. To the right of the entrance was a screen, and behind that screen was Su Fu’s bed.
The two sat down in the small hall outside the screen. Su Jun was also there, his face showing a mix of anger and lingering fear.
Madam Su was behind the screen accompanying Miss Su, while Master Su sat to one side, sighing repeatedly.
Seeing the two arrive, Su Jun cupped his hands and said, “I’m sorry for disturbing your rest.”
Lian Li shook his head and asked, “How is Miss Su’s condition?”
Su Jun took a deep breath and replied, “She was rescued in time. We have to wait for the doctor to arrive for the specifics.”
Lian Li and Yun Huizhou nodded and said no more, simply staying there to keep Su Jun company while they waited.
Soon, Su Jun’s attendants carried in an old doctor with a white beard.
They set him down, and before the old doctor could say a word, Su Jun rushed up to meet him. “Uncle Sun, please, quickly check on my sister.”
The old doctor, addressed as Uncle Sun, didn’t hesitate. He moved nimbly behind the screen.
After a long while, he finally emerged.
Seeing his calm expression, Lian Li knew that Su Fu was likely fine—at least her life wasn’t in danger.
Doctor Sun walked up to Su Jun and said in a low voice, “It’s nothing serious. She just suffered a fright and caught a bit of a chill. She just needs to lie in bed for two days and take a couple of doses of medicine. However, she must not go out and face the wind for the next few days. If her condition worsens, it will be difficult to save her.”
Su Jun smiled and agreed, then took the prescription and sent a servant to see Doctor Sun out.
Hearing Doctor Sun’s words, Lian Li was stunned. He looked at Su Jun with concern and whispered, “Then tomorrow…”
Tomorrow was the martial arts marriage competition. In the original plan, Su Fu was supposed to sit above with Master Su and Madam Su to watch. This was something everyone participating in the competition knew.
After all, they couldn’t truly let Su Fu marry without even seeing her future husband once.
Even though Su Fu would certainly be wearing a veil to cover her face, her preference would be very important if there really was a final test from Su Jun.
Given Su Jun’s martial arts level, he might not actually be able to test much, nor could he help Su Fu filter out someone who met her heart’s desire.
But being able to catch a glimpse was always better than nothing.
However, given Su Fu’s current state, she was clearly unfit to go out. She needed to recover at home for a few days. Even if she wanted to move around, it was best if she didn’t leave her courtyard.
Su Jun now truly wanted to just cancel the martial arts marriage competition. With his sister in such a state, how could he have the heart to choose a husband for her?
